- The Super Mario 64 Beta recreation has been in the works for over 2 years, and it's finally released! I'm honored to be one of the first to play through the entire game; the build is open source and available to the public as well.

Oh my goodness, it’s finally here. First, we got Luigi’s Mansion Beta Restoration, then we got Zelda SW97, and now we got the Mario 64 beta restoration. That’s awesome
Didn't knew about the Luigi's Mansion Beta one, that's so cool
Also the Zelda SW97 Experience (an Ocarina of Time mod that replicates how the game was like when it was demoed at Spaceworld 1997, using the assets from an F-Zero X overdump cart)

Now we need SMSunshine's beta restoration. That open world stage with the tramplin Stus will be hard to recreate.
@@Mike14264 Yes, Zel640 and a small team made it a while back. It's really neat, they recently published a patch that did some minor fixes. He's a really down to earth guy, I chat with him on occasion. I'm surprised at how well they got it down in so little time. There's also a neat map select of bonus content like an unfinished version of the Forest Temple and Fire Temple, albeit they aren't really useful for much other than exploring but it's neat nonetheless.
After playing B3313 I can't see Beta SM64 stuff without feeling midly threatened. This looks so insanely cool ngl! :33

Same here!! Ever since those screenshots in Nintendo Power (or was it EGM?) I've always been interested in this beta.
It actually makes sense that JRB wasn't in the demo, but DDD was, since it's the level the song is named after
it was in an earlier build
11:20 There are mines from Bowser's arenas here because the developers originally wanted them in for difficulty, but since Dire Dire Docks was pushed back later in the game, they were removed to give players a breather.
So cool to finally see the beta build of Super Mario 64 in action. The Super Mario 64 modding and hacking community are absolutely insane!

They're actually voice clips of Mel Blanc from the Warner Brothers sound library. They were probably never meant to be used in the final game

Things they should have left from the beta:

You forgot the faster Bob-Omb Battlefield music. Listening to the original now sounds slow af.
Luigi was scrapped beacuse hardware limitations. Probably minimap was the same case.

I realized something, Mario doesn't need coins to heal his energy right away. He can quickly heal himself, He's Wolverine. 😅
Mario's movement in this reminds me of Niko from gta iv. Its insane that Nintendo was able to make such nice animations for Mario on such limiting hardware

I can already tell this one’s gonna be good
The fact that Marios movement could basically be called complete here, yet nintendo went back and tweaked it even more to make it better and add cool stuff this late in development shows how much they really cared about making Mario fun to control. Not to mention their late addition of the long jump probably led to the backwards long jump glitch.
From discovering the actual pre-release footages,
I find some things isn't in the Preservation Project:
Jolly Roger Bay doesn't exist in this hack. It has bluey water and a bigger ship with different layout.
There is a footage of Mario punching Boos in a house with
unused brown brick texture. Maybe Big Boo's Haunt was in
the beta version.
There is also a footage where Mario messing around in a
stage with some unused textures. Surprisingly it was a
test stage which was found in the 2020 Nintendo Gigaleak
where Luigi was found too.
TTM's slide in CCM was extended and doesn't have a
dead end at all.
Bathaniel said “there’s no sliding yet” after he done the slide I love how he does that 😂

I remember this is 1995, space world seeing mario 64 for the 1st time it was mind blowing can't believe this is fan made it looks incredible and very true to the original beta version, I wish they would have kept mario saying hooo on his jump in the final version.

Imagine if someone made an accurate SM64 mod based off of the Beta version of Super Mario 64. It would be crazy if the unused content from that game was also in it. Its basically the game hes playing, but even more stuff. Soooo... yeah.
I saw a rom hack of Mario 64 called SM64.z64 and it’s one of those personalized cartridge creepy-pasta mod and I think you might like this (also whenever the game crashes restart the game. It changes every time)

Beta Bob Omb Battlefield wasn't in this demo. Wasn't revealed till the E3 Spaceworld 1996 Demo.
