Air GT owner, I have been about Range for years. I got that burst of energy out of my system with the early EV's I had. 99% of the time I'm in Smooth mode, only if someone requests a launch do I do Sprint mode. Honestly not at all important. As for the accelerator pedal is concerned, this must be a 2025 thing, because I don't experience this at all, and I only use Standard Regen. I don't think I have ever tried High Regen. I use a 350KW hyper charger, and it will ramp up to maybe 305KW, and then slope down to the 250KW range and slowly fall as the battery gets full. However, seeing the Silverado sit at 250KW consistently during the charge cycle, I'm a bit jealous. Just last week, I was charging next to a Ionic 5 that is built on an 800V architecture, and we started at the same time, and he hit 100% when I was just hitting 72%. Sure, I can get up to 300 mile range in about 20 minutes, but real added miles is generally 225 or so. Not bad, but it would be better if the charge controller of the Lucid maintained an input level of 250KW up to the 80% or higher state of charge. By the time I got to 80% I was at 50KW....Terrible, which is why I never go for a full charge at an EA, and just allow my solar array do the top off the next day. Was waiting for your take on Lucid. Interesting to hear about the pedal calibration: this is not an issue for any other reviewer. Maybe it's a 2025 issue? Hopefully limited to this press car, cause there are numerous conditions where I'd rather be in control over a hyperactive distance-and-lane keeping radar system.
I've been driving a Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance since December 2021. I love to drive and almost never use its (or our Tesla Plaid's) ADAS system, even on long road trips. I also keep the regen braking set to maximum. Honestly, I have never noticed any issue with keeping my foot on the accelerator pedal. In fact, I never even thought about it until watching this video and wondering how it occupied several minutes of both these guys' discussion. BTW, isn't that a windshield crack at 16:20 and 16:57?
Just the best car overall. But for the follically challenged or life in very sunny/hot climates, the factory option sunshades are a must. Couldn’t disagree more about the steering and handling. The handling balance and steering feel are the best of its category. Is it going to feel like a Lotus? Hell no. But for what it is, it’s just amazing.
Tesla has the software functionality that gives you more options. Better app with forward looking features even though some aren’t fully executed yet. Also have sentry mode and the supercharger network which is just better than using EA or other 3rd party chargers. Once lucid can use superchargers then it’ll be more competitive because the product is actually really good. It also has a lot of space and the used cars are a good deal for sure.
Don't get the glass roof its optional. Also the Pure is Rear Drive that's the one I have it's sublime to drive. Like seriously its got that special feeling that I can't quite describe, but its amazing.
I own a 2023 Bolt EV. When I took delivery of the car I took to the One Pedal Drive like a fish to water. However, I don't use this feature on the freeway because sometimes I like to coast if I'm coming up to a slower car. I don't want to break. Once in a great while I'll use the actual break pedal if I have to but most times I use the hand lever on the the steering wheel to slow down. On the street it's One Pedal Drive 24/7. Gr8 vid. 🚙🇺🇸⚡🔌
Chevy's regen paddle on the steering wheel is a great feature. I wish my Lucid had that and the coast setting. Those together are ideal for hypermiling, but most people lack the attention span to really do that.
that was the Sapphire which handles dramatically differently. Tho the GT I drove handled amazingly for it's size. Very natural steering/handling on twisty roads
I test drove and like the Lucid Air. I even own Lucid stock. The range on the Lucid Air is great, but for the price of $130K it's slower than the Model S Plaid at $89K. Also less practical, as the Model S has a large hatch where as the Lucid has a big trunk, but with a low opening. The Lucid self driving and app is also not even in the same ballpark as Tesla. Then there's the regular Tesla Model S, $79K with 405 miles of range. 0-60 in 3 seconds flat. Let's hope Lucid brings their A game with the Gravity, I'm rooting for them.
Thank you for the video just a few points. Pure would be more agile as it's much lighter in the front. Air is a luxurious sedan, it out sold all those competitors you mentioned. This category is not a high volume one.
All the talk of the pedal, regen, coasting makes me glad we went with the new shape hyundai kona ev , it has 4 levels of regen from 0 (so coast) to 4 (other than an emergancy, you dont need to touch the brake pedal). It also has 4 levels of " auto regen" so when running with the sat nav, the car brakes based on corners, roundabouts etc. Having said that i would take a lucid in a heartbeat if i had the exta income.
I would not buy this. Same for most people. But I am first in line for the Gravity. They should have done the gravity first but i am happy they didn't because they learned a lot. Because of that, the Gravity is going to be the best 7 seat EV on the planet. I love how they pay attention to detail. I cancelled my Range Rover order to wait for the Gravity.
Good review. It’s funny you mention the gas pedal stiffness - I completely forgot about that but it was definitely an issue the first day of driving the Air Pure. But totally forgot about it by day 2.
To the discussion around the 17:00 mark: Yes. The 15% of the market who were willing to buy a new, expensive EV have done so. For multiple reasons, including charging infrastructure, cost, long-term reliability, value for money, and more; the EV market has hit the cap of current capacity and will only slowly rise from now on unless there is a revolutionary change in EV fundamentals. It's a good part of why the governments (other than California because California) have rolled back the requirements for vehicle manufacturers to have all-EV or mostly-EV sales by X date. The market won't permit it.
I cannot help but think a car like this is for those very fortunate people who have run out of ways to spend money. The next thing to fill something exciting. I suppose most would do the same. I would love to spend a day with one. Glad I find joy in simple things.
Wow... That mk2 gti was RIGHT up the lucid's trumpet. Getting a real strong whiff of that not-exhaust. Admiring their reflection in the paint. I bet the lucid can outbrake it 😬
It was part of the convoy. There is a group shot with it proudly in the middle in this video. The b roll for this review all came from a larger review for our main channel later this year.
I drove the pure rwd, 100% agree. Prefer coast mode for highway, prefer a little creep too in stop and go. My average speed in my car is rarely over 30mph (22mph usually) super excited about gravity, if I'm going to drive a 5,000lb car it needs 3 rows. Hoping for a GTS type model rwd 2 rear motors like sapphire maybe.
@6SpeedTA95 all of the b roll for this was shot during an upcoming range test we did with a few other cars. That video will be out on the main Everyday Driver channel later this year.
I had been fascinated with the "not a Tesla" options like Lucid and Rivian. I even put a reservation in for the upcoming smaller Rivian R2. But....after renting a Rivian on a recent trip to LA, and now watching this, I am discouraged. These are computers on wheels, and there should be settings regen, coast and creep. The same issues raised in this video exist in the Rivian (regen and coasting.) Additionally, the Rivian will not "creep" at very low speeds. It is absolutely terrifying having to press the accelerator to get these high horsepower monsters to maneuver in tight quarters at low speed. When these things change, I will consider an EV.
There is a metal roof version you can order or just get the optional clip-in sun screens for the glass roof, front and back. The base model Lucid is cheaper than the Tesla Model S, has longer range than the Tesla, and is still much nicer inside. Lucid's issue with sales, as much as anything, is just brand awareness. That is improving. Lucid sold more cars by the end of August than it had in all of last year. Later this year Lucid's feature-rich 3-row Gravity SUV Model goes on sale and already has many people asking when they can reserve one. I have driven my Air GT for over two and a half years, thrilled with the car. Service has been both rare and awesome. Unlike you guys I was impressed with both the handling and the accelerator calibration. You guys are definitely in the minority opinion there.
I own a Tesla Model Y and a Boss 302. It’s increasingly impressive that a 7 seat comfortable family SUV can be faster, more comfortable, safer, and more convenient all at the same. Electric cars really are fantastic. But at the end of the day I’d still rather have the Boss on a back road.
ICE drivers gushing about the most excessive EV. You guys should drive EVs for 6 months and you'll realize you were foolish to give a crap about charge speed or excessive range claims. Those are simply ridiculous concerns you were told you would have, and you believed them.
We’re guessing this is the first time you’ve watched our work. We’ve driven many EVs over the years and talked many times on our podcast and one video about how we don’t think huge range should be the goal of electric cars. In this case, we had this car for a distance challenge so it was relevant. Meanwhile, we’ve publicly discussed charging and infrastructure issues as we’ve encountered them - which has been a reality in many EVs we’ve driven. Glad you found us. Thanks for watching!
I would definitely buy a Lucid but it would be great if there was an option for a tow hitch then at least you could add a bike rack if somebody could make an aftermarket one that would be fantastic because I know Luicd owners are looking for that and there's no reason why that vehicle should not be able to tow 5,000
Todd, I hope you mean that you prefer to coast off throttle rather than a bad one pedal system. Why would anyone want an EV to drive like an automatic? All EV's are one speed manuals. They should feel like that. Your brake pedal should be friction brakes only, and people should forget that cars ever just coasted and freewheeled. What happens if you drive your manual car around in 2nd or 3rd gear? You will get engine braking when you lift off the throttle. That's what I want my EV to feel like. Also why Porsche is sadly off the table for me forever. Their stubborn and stupid insistence to engineer good equipment and make it drive like bad equipment is infuriating. They made PDK, the dual clutch transmission that feels like a torque converter automatic. "I'm Porsche. I made ice cream that tastes like celery. I made potato chips that taste like Matzo. I made a dual clutch that feels like an automatic. I made an EV that feels like it's a gas car."
I test drove it for a 2 hour drive by accident and I almost cramped up… 1 pedal driving fail. Please give us more options. Please give us relaxed coasting go pedal
Talking about charging stations that can fast charge - how is the non-Tesla infrastructure ? I've heard it's pretty bad. Where can you find those non-tesla fast charge stations ?

Never owned an EV before and never wanted to….until I saw that Lucid offers 18 month leases that are pricey but won’t break the bank for more than 18 payments 😂😂 so why not check one out?
There is no coast because Lucid has calibrated their cars to drive like a gas car that has a manual permanently in the lowest gear, not an automatic slushbox. You can coast with an automatic because of the torque converter, but with a manual you'll slow down just as fast as the engine braking will allow. Same with an electric motor, except now you can actually recuperate that braking energy.
We're not sure why this comment posted 3 times, but the effort required to keep the Lucid maintaining a set speed is more pressure than a manual transmission car would require on the accelerator. And we have heard from Lucid that they are recalibrating the pedal. Thanks for watching!
Not sure what to say about the efficiency/rage of this car. I have just seen an ID7 with 75.4kWh usable battery pack that did 402.5 miles (0.1873 kW/mile). Compared to this Lucid Air with 118 kWh battery pack that has a range of 500 miles (0.236 kW/mile). Not that I am a fan of ID7
EVs will only get better....... big driver of this is the efficiency. Once EVs are doing 5-6 mi/kWh range almost becomes a non issue. From a typical 70-80kWh battery pack you are talking 350-500 miles of range with really fast charging.
Is that a VW rabbit that keeps appearing in a few shots the back half? Little white hatchback that appears to be in pretty good shape despite being 45 ish years old.
Definitely better than any Tesla and is not even close going on *YEARS* now same true with Rivian at the moment as far better than Tesla *BUT* the Cybertruck might be a game changer for far more than just "trucking" just have to wait and see😊😊
Great car for sure, but who the heck has $130,000 sitting around. That’s a part of the problem. Lease may be an option or pick it up used 2-3 yrs later. BTW , the Pedal is a non-issue in the Tesla. Just saying.
The first company that can build a EV the size of the model 3 and around 30k and can get a range of almost 500miles. 0-60 in less than 4 secs. Then we will be killing the gas car.
Car makers push 0-60 times. And sadly, many magazines set out to see if they can beat them. It is the only consistent metric most people hear about cars. And it’s irrelevant most of the time. Thanks for watching!
@TestDriveVideos HP is a consistent metric. Neither HP or 0-60 can be measured by a human to the extent where they can know the difference. So be different and talk about the car itself and what it brings to the table. This video was great for that reason, but I guarantee you'll be talking about 0-60 again in the next one 🤷😪
Absolutely not done right if it loses $300k with every sale after a few years of production. I like it but any company can engineer a car like that but it has to be profitable. 🤔 Range far when you can recharge at overnight at home? Like that it's not a Tesla?
Knowlegdeable consumers in this price class are confident Tesla will be around in 10 years. Not so sure on Lucid. That is Lucid's biggest problem. You can lease instead of buy if you are not so confident on Lucid.

Maybe it's the $125,000 price tag that's keeping people from getting this car.
lol 😂 true 🎉
Except you can get one for 70k for the Pure and a little more than that for a touring edition.
8:42 guys, you can option a metal roof
Yes. But this was the press car provided and we still think it should have some sort of shade or option with the glass roof. Thanks for watching.
@@TestDriveVideos Lucid sell an optional sun screen.
Once lucid can use superchargers then it’ll be more competitive because the
product is actually really good. It also has a lot of space and the used cars are a good deal for sure.
Fun episode but I can't stop looking at the MK1 Rabbit....
Don't get the glass roof its optional. Also the Pure is Rear Drive that's the one I have it's sublime to drive. Like seriously its got that special feeling that I can't quite describe, but its amazing.
One of the best new EVs brands. Love when I see one. But I had to go with the Ioniq 5N.
Lucid is an EV built right from the drawing board to the road
I'd be so interested to see your thoughts on the Lucid on track. I think Jason Cammisa noted it was one of the best handling cars, ever.
See several Savage Geese reviews of Lucid's different models.
that was the Sapphire which handles dramatically differently.
After more than 10k miles in my GT, i would not drive anything else.
Hi, from Japan!! Thanks for your visiting Illinois I could learn about the Lucid. How did you reach to Illinois?? By Emira and C8??
I find it strangely amusing that Paul and Todd listen to Glorilla. Love it
I cannot help but think a car like this is for those very fortunate people who have run out of ways to spend money. The next thing to fill something exciting. I suppose most would do the same. I would love to spend a day with one. Glad I find joy in simple things.
It's for people who can afford to buy a big luxury sedan.
There is a creep setting in the menu. Odd that reviewers never mention it.
What's with the tape over the charge port on a couple of the shot?
I cannot wait to see how lucid approaches a 3-series competitor. I hope they go more towards physical buttons and away from touch screens.
I like the Golf GTI Mk1 driving behind. 18:55 is that glass broken?
So you can get Lucid sunshades for the glass roof in times you don't want to use it. Also there is a creep enable setting.
You guys tested it in the range tires/rims, maybe you'd felt better driving performance on the 21"s
Guys do your research before reviewing a car please. The lucid comes with a regular roof.
We are fully aware of that. We are commenting about the one we were given.
Thanks for watching!
what will be the true range in cold climates?
I feel Hyundai/Kia have the throttle/regen calibration options dialled in perfectly for an EV.
I would definitely buy a Lucid but it would be great if there was an option for a tow hitch then at least you could add a bike rack if somebody could make an aftermarket one that would be fantastic because I know Luicd owners are looking for that and there's no reason why that vehicle should not be able to tow 5,000
well yes but.... buy a Gravity :)
Is that windshield cracked? Beautiful car
Love the Rabbit escort pace car!
I think it's also the pricing leading to lack of sales
Lots of contradicting statements throughout the video. It’s a solid car overall, 7/10
You should be able to use the superchargers as early as next year.
Is that a cracked windshield and painters tape of the charge door to keep it closed?
@CedricParker all of the b roll for this was shot during an upcoming range test we did with a few other cars. That video will be out on the main Everyday Driver channel later this year.
The windshield got cracked from a rock on the freeway on its way out to us.
@@phattyhales thanks for the clarification, I've been considering a lucid air pure as a daily driver. The lease deals are right and while I haven't been able to sit in one, I hope it's as surprising as my first gen volt was. (The only other ev I've driving in)
@@CedricParker you mean Bolt? Volt was a hybrid
@@andreisevostianov9525 I ment volt, it was a extended range ev. It was classified as a hybrid at the time because of marketing.
Wish they sold them here in Australia for RHD , Tesla is not a brand I’d trust and the Lucid Air has style in my eyes .
Is that a crack in the windshield? I can't imagine what replacing that will cost...
I love Lucid. Hopefully they'll force Tesla to up their game. I think the issue is the Lucid software isn't up to snuff compared to Tesla and the lack of charging infrastructure is a major hurdle too
They could make it with a press button to actually opaque that part of the window with liquid crystal.
niche product (sedan), iffy software, cant charge, and a limiting price. gravity and R2 competitor need to show up like this week.
Honestly, I’d like to see you guys review a Tesla besides the cybertruck. You keep saying don’t buy one, but I’d like your honest take. Once I rented one for a long road trip for a week, I was sold.
We’ve driven every Tesla model Those reviews are on our original long-running channel: /EverydayDriver. The Model S and X have stand alone films, and the Model 3 and Y can be found in comparisons. Thanks for your interest!
@@TestDriveVideos interesting. I only saw one from 8 years ago. Of course, I would love to hear your take on the new Model 3 Performance!
Hopefully they listen to comments and do something about the regen
What’s with the tape over the drivers side charge panel?
As mentioned, it was part of a long distance road trip challenge and we taped over all charge and gas ports for that. Thanks for watching!
@@TestDriveVideos got it thanks for clarifying. Can’t wait till that video comes out.
I luv my sapphire except had issues with the doors would not unlock but with the latestest software update fixed that .
Disliked the styling initially. I now think it's one of the best looking sedans on the market, not just EVs but all sedans
@@TestDriveVideos IDK why it posted 3 times either - I think there was a glitch.
I really dig these, but I'm certainly taking the GTI over this! 🙂
Yep. Mk1 with dual rounds and Euro bumper. Super cool 😎
@6SpeedTA95 yes. It’s a 77 Rabbit that is part of an upcoming, bigger video. Some pictures of it were posted on the EDD social media pages.
What a beautiful car 😍😍
Lucid made a low riding sedan when every body buys SUVs. What is the logic in that? I see a few in Atlanta but really no one takes these seriously.
This pedal regen issue is reason for me not to buy one. I enjoy the natural coasting of my Taycan so much, never want to have anything else again.
Clarkson redo this drive interview please…
That is a good looking car
That crack in the windscreen... 5K Repair 🥲🥲🥲🥲
It’s actually half that, $2418 to be exact. Had mine changed earlier this year. One day fix and my Insurance paid for it so no biggie.
I love Tesla but I just imagine what lucid will accomplish with a very big funding
You could have said folically challenged.😂
Still 400 pounds lighter than an M5 😂
Car reviewers are the ones pushing 0-60 times down our throats and then complaining about how everything is based on 0-60 times is… IRONIC
👌👌👌
I clicked to see a review of Lucid… not hear a Tesla Bashing…😩
5:50 Fuoooo lol
I don’t think the quality is like the German cars
Do you think German cars are of quality? Especially in recent years
But still better than Tesla and lucid
Absolutely not done right if it loses $300k with every sale after a few years of production. I like it but any company can engineer a car like that but it has to be profitable. 🤔 Range far when you can recharge at overnight at home? Like that it's not a Tesla?
Any new manufactured product has sunk costs. Tesla took 10 years to be profitable. However, I’m more worried that they aren’t selling more.
Cannot believe people buy Teslas over a Lucid. It's Chevy vs Mercedes. Sexy vs boring.
Hope the company survives, not looking very hopefulll at the moment
Knowlegdeable consumers in this price class are confident Tesla will be around in 10 years. Not so sure on Lucid. That is Lucid's biggest problem. You can lease instead of buy if you are not so confident on Lucid.
Regen braking is the way to go. You guys just aren’t use to it.
Sapphire is 1234 horsepowers.
