I just got my Tesladapter for my Bolt so now I am looking forward to taking an actual out-of-state road trip. Once it gets warm again at least, thanks Chevy for taking 2 months to deliver it.

I don’t Know why but I love the ui in the lucid. It doesn’t look that hospital steril like a Tesla and not old fashion like mbux. It is like a mid century living room went through a Time Machine.
Just did a 2200 mile Cali roadtrip in my lucid air touring. Just an excellent car. I was only getting about 220 miles of safe range at 80+ (leaving 15% charge left) which was a little disappointing but the car is still an excellent road tripper. Soaks up bumps, love the blind spot warning, great UI. Hope Lucid makes it!
70 mph in the Lucid is magic, I'm not sure any EV has figured out how to not lose a bunch of range at 80 mph. Just look at the range projections for 75 mph on EVKX with heat and that shows a pretty large drop.
I love it how Kyle always, ALWAYS, leaves the door open in the car... Heat or cold, Kyle loves to leave the door open and waste the effect of any preconditioning 😂 I am sure it was a cold morning when he left those two doors open... He does the same in the heat. Yeah, I get sometimes too defensive about Lucid. No, it's not a stock thing. I just hear so much FUD from the Tesla folks and the EV haters that it bugs me. The car is just so good in so many ways. Having said my disclaimer: Get over the charging curve. Lucid has to warranty these batteries and I bought my early production Air GT with the intent to keep it for years. For context, I bought a fully optioned 2011 Nissan LEAF. It was made before the first production Model S. It was and remains a well built and fully functional car still on the road, 3rd owner and 3rd warranty battery replacement. I can't talk about my work/IP with lithium batteries, but thermal management and dis/charging c-rate is what can kill them if mismanaged. I am 100% fine with Lucid limiting my charging speed to a rate that helps the cells live at least to their 8-year warranty. Get back to me in 5 years about how Porsche batteries are doing. A car is not a cell phone. How are the batteries in your 2016 cell phone? Cars are not 'disposable'. Protecting and preserving the battery cells is key to ensuring the long life of the vehicle.
When it comes to battery life, at least I feel confident in the 20-80% rule. I've got a 5 year old e-bike with a lithium battery that I have maintained the rule consistently. It's lost less than 5% of its original life. In fact, that's merely a guess because I can't measure the loss because it's so little.
@@joemcdonough7509 Yes! A well designed lithium battery can last for Much longer than most people think. Key to that life is how the battery is treated: Temperature, Charging C-rate Rate, Discharge C-rate Rate, and storage charge. A 20-80 e-bike battery may last longer than the bike itself if kept from extreme temperatures. You're never charging that at 1,000V & 350A. The Lucid can charge at that rate, but Lucid engineers limit the combination of voltage, amperage, and temperature that the battery cells can be exposed to. Your e-bike and i-Phone do the same, but my unfortunate 2011 LEAF did not. That meant that car got 3 new warranty replacement batteries in its 8 year warranty. I'm glad Lucid is more careful about limiting how fast I can wear out the battery. Good post, by the way. Thanks.
Kyle over 100KW charging over 50% and complaining. Yes there is room for improvement but be realistic as you can't have it all. It's not an ice vehicle. I agree the in the Surge it showed the improvement of the Luicd and can't wait for the Gravity - 450 miles yeh baby.
We did 4k miles in the Y with family of 4…we never felt the need to do splash and dash… always just got food/coffee restrooms… and made it pretty easy to do 8-12 hours per day… previously I was always doing 6-7 hours straight and burnt out afterwards.
On the topic of eating we tend to get food on the way to the charger, and then eat in the truck while charging. We have trays that attach to the steering wheel to make it easier.
The Achilles heal for the Lucid in the I-90 surge was that it's efficiency crashes as it approaches 80 mph. Jordan in the new Model 3 expressed confidence he would have beaten the Lucid even if it hadn't had run out battery at one point.
What killed the Lucid in the I-90 race was Dave's shallow charging, trying to imitate his kid's technique. As Kyle hints in the conclusion of this video, the Lucid works best to get a good deep charge and then drive until the driver needs a bio-break. When the Lucid reaches 50% that's about the same energy as the Model 3 at 80%. In the race the Lucid kept having to slow down because they hadn't charged enough (not even counting the backtracking because they failed to read the display or the running out because they trusted a youtube video more than what the car was telling them).
@@Miata822 Yeah, that happened too. But as the efficiency dive as you exceed 70 towards 80 mph is well documented here and in other videos was part of it too. And the Model 3 had to content itself with 150 kW V2 chargers for a pretty long stretch too.
@@marcusrose5943 I did mostly avoid EA chargers in California, but the other options are not great either. They are more difficult to locate and they are often slower. But, they are far better than waiting in line for hours for an EA charger in LA
Always fun to watch your videos (sped up, of course 😉). There are definitely some things Lucid can be doing better, software in particular, and you have a lot of valid criticisms. However, I think you should cut them some slack on a few things: * it's winter and you are driving fast. Your efficiency was about what I would expect - maybe even a bit better. * as others have pointed out, bailing out when the charging drops to levels that most other cars can only dream about is definitely ironic. * Lucid just started the "Compromise Nothing" campaign. I don't think they meant it to be retroactive. * you should consider food options other than those immediately adjacent to the charging stations if you want to improve the quality of your meals on road trips. We usually plan our charging around at least 1 meal stop. It would be nice to see you ACTUALLY take a chill road trip someday! I know you take some heat for your approach to shooting and post, but I for one appreciate the "fast & furious" approach to getting lots of content out quickly. 😊
I'd definitely hope for better than 3.5 mi/kWh out of a Lucid Air. That was the roundtrip efficiency for my Chevy Bolt EV after 150,000 miles of >80% freeway driving. I just don't see how the Air GT is capable of over 500 miles in highway driving, which is the only time that range really matters.
I swear Model S LR is just as or more efficient, Lucid talks endlessly about their efficiency advantage but they really aren’t that far ahead. Packaging seems to be their true bread and butter, they do that better than anyone right now
You guys are forgetting about the outdoor temp. Sub freezing weather is going to result in lower efficiency. They tested and achieved 500+ miles on a charge in this exact car.
@@dRadddd I'm referring to Kyle's comments about the lifetime efficiency of 3.5 mi/kWh. Perhaps, at 70 mph in ideal conditions, it can hit 4.3 mi/kWh, but my point was, the lifetime efficiency is no better than my Bolt EV, which is not an aerodynamic hatchback.
@@dRadddd I wasnt basing it on just this drive, just based on dozens of trips I've seen I'm generally disappointed by the efficiency at real highway speeds. The 500 mi comes at 70 mph and good conditions, seems like if you go 85~ with moderate conditions you'll drop efficiency way more than a lot of other cars which strikes me as odd cause I would assume that aerodynamics matter more at higher speeds. In the Out of Spec 10% Challenge the Lucid Air GT and Kyle's beaten up Model S Plaid tied in efficiency and the LR is much more efficient than the Plaid btw what do you mean 5 on the way out? Jordan got 3.5~ on his 1k road trip bringing the car to colorado and 3.7~ on his way to Seattle and he wasn't even driving that fast
1:07:25 This hasn't been my experience over the last 8 years of traveling in an EV. If anything, I think I might eat "healthier" on the road, though that's an argument for another day. What I've found is that some charging providers are simply better at placing their chargers than others, and it's why, on the whole, I've found EVgo to have far, far better site placement than most of the other charging providers, including Electrify America and Tesla. The people who also eat on long trips in ICE cars actually end up "wasting" almost as much time as EV owners by making meal stops, but the difference is, those ICE drivers are almost always making discrete charging stops AND discrete meal stops.
I was thinking the charging was t that bad but when you said 62kWh in 20 minutes then I knew it wasn’t great as my Ioniq 5 can add that same amount of energy in 20 minutes.
That range would be nice. We do that drive in our Mach-E frequently (NoCO to Reno) now that EA finally filled in I-80 in WY. But we have to charge in Rawlins, Rock Springs, Evanston, SLC, Wendover, Elko, and Winemucca. Be nice if Tesla upgrades all those V2s sometime. I-80 almost nothing but V2. Watch out for deer around Elko too. We try to stick to daylight driving.
Just had this epiphany: Yes, arriving at stations with such a high state of charge doesn't make sense, *if you know how Lucid batteries work*. They probably designed this system simply around the idea of not freaking out people that have range anxiety, and don't understand that it's not a bad thing running your pack down to 5%. But that further amplifies the need for a setting where you can design your desired arrival percentage.
I would like to see a breakdown of how much you are spending for these road trips. Later in the video you mentioned the Lucid charges for free. :). But, any road trip video would be nice to see the breakdown.
Did the SLC -> San Jose this summer in the Y performance… tesla had me charging every 2 hours or so… still beat the Google Maps estimate by a couple minutes… but would have liked the extra range of the lucid to do every 3 hours instead… will try the new Lucid this summer…
Range even gets a hit with ICE vehicles in cold weather. In the summer, I fill up and it says I can do over 500 miles. I just filled up today at 27⁰, and it said 370 miles.
Only Kyle would look at that charging performance and call it "wacky" when the only car that can do better is even more expensive than the Lucid Air by a LOT.
ABC kyle, when you were route planning at the hotel you unplugged before you did it. I watch this channel called out of spec and those hosts would never do that. Haha
That's so great of Costco, and smart, to partner with a charging provider. And better still, placing so many chargers, at 350kW no less, at their stores. None of this 4 or 6 chargers (sometimes only 150kW) crap at Walmarts. It's much better than their gas offering with people not stopping to even go into the stores most of the times because they have to wait in line for so long, and then leave after topping off. With charging, people leave their EV's charging and have time to go in even if they didn't plan to shop there. It's simple retail business 101. Just get them to come inside the stores and you'll find they'll end up buying something.
The Costco chargers are actually placed closer to the McDonald's than the Costco, so you could always walk over there. The Electrify America site that's closer to the freeway off this same exit has far better (and more) amenities. Frankly, that site is the one that should have 14 chargers, but hey, Costco wants to go big.
How long is this car! It must be well over 5 meters. Or 18 ft. It looks like it won’t fit in my garage. Heat pump? -5 in Wyoming. We have -15. And my Tesla holds a nice temperature. No problem.
Kyle you mentioned road tripping & poor food options. We started packing healthy better quality options. Cheaper, faster & much better than road fast food or junk from convenience stores.
I'm a huge Lucid fan from before you heard of Atieva. I hold more shares than you do. Understand that i mean the best for both you and I when I say that posting childish pumper spam like this is counterproductive to both the Lucid brand image and the future value of Lucid. Adults look at posts like this and are turned off, think Lucid may not be a serious company. Your posts hurt Lucid, it's image, and ultimately your own share value. I love my Lucid Air. If you want to help the company just go buy one.
@Miata822 i love the company lucid, but let me ask you. Are you going around to each other? Person that talks bad about lucid and letting them know they're acting childish by talking down to a company.
"62KWh in, what, 20 minutes. Not terrible." LOL, talk about spoiled. Given how everybody, but OOS, uses EVs, minutes more at average rates of 150+KW are fantastic. Bruh, I thought you were going to just cruise'n chill, but I guess not.
If you're not into it, tap the right side of the screen a few times on your phone. It's 10 seconds every time, you'll get right through the advertisement. If you're paying for TH-cam premium, he's making the most out of your watched minutes, so I don't think you're really hurting the bottom line there.
The argument that efficient cars are more affected by driving conditions feels a bit iffy to me, that would imply that the less efficient cars would lose less efficiency at worse driving conditions???
LOL Average.. I dont think you know what you are talking about. It has twice the efficiency of any other car in the market. The new Model 3 that they benchmarked was a RWD model. Same as the Taycan. The werent driving the Pure here. so 3.0 mi kw/h in the cold and elevation is pretty darn efficient
its not uncommon on high tech cars. I had BMW's that cost the same and Idrive 7 and 8 are pretty much polished interface had some problems. Sometimes Kyle is not use to it. As he had said he had not driven the car that much
Way too hyper about charging speeds. Just drive a combustion vehicle and drive straight thru. Owning an EV requires some patience. EVs do not do well in cold temps, how would you not know this. Imagine if it was 0F.

FYI Costo will let you use their restrooms without a card. Just say you're buying alcohol or pharmacy. No membership for Federally controlled items.
My road trip style is similar, except I don’t drive at night, at 80 mph and I never drive more than 500 miles per day. Otherwise very similar.
Love motoring videos
The Costco chargers are actually placed closer to the McDonald's than the Costco, so you could always walk over there. The Electrify America site that's closer to the freeway off this same exit has far better (and more) amenities. Frankly, that site is the one that should have 14 chargers, but hey, Costco wants to go big.
Unpluging and pluging the car in that short of the time interrupting the battery will harm it?
The car companies should include "Kyle trip mode" in their trip planner.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO LUCID🏆🏁 FAMILY❤️🙋♂️ WOOHOO!😁👏👏👏🥳🥳🥳🎇🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆🎇🕺🕺🕺🥂🍾
I'm a huge Lucid fan from before you heard of Atieva. I hold more shares than you do. Understand that i mean the best for both you and I when I say that posting childish pumper spam like this is counterproductive to both the Lucid brand image and the future value of Lucid. Adults look at posts like this and are turned off, think Lucid may not be a serious company. Your posts hurt Lucid, it's image, and ultimately your own share value. I love my Lucid Air. If you want to help the company just go buy one.
@@Miata822Good morning 🙋♂️🌞 Miata i'm glad you're a shareholder, too. How many shares do you have now? And what's your average?
@Miata822 i love the company lucid, but let me ask you. Are you going around to each other? Person that talks bad about lucid and letting them know they're acting childish by talking down to a company.
@Miata822 HAVE A GREAT START TO YOUR SUNDAY MORNING 🌞🙋♂️ I'M GETTING READY FOR WORK NOW. HOPEFULLY TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
@@Miata822 we even spoke a while back when you got your vehicle. I congratulated you, so it's nothing personal.
I come for the Lucid. And stay for the Lucid….😅
I have talked to lots of people at CA DCFCs. I don't remember anyone being weird.
40:05 interesting!
"62KWh in, what, 20 minutes. Not terrible." LOL, talk about spoiled. Given how everybody, but OOS, uses EVs, minutes more at average rates of 150+KW are fantastic. Bruh, I thought you were going to just cruise'n chill, but I guess not.
I'm pretty sure he does not know how.
Ai out of spec Kyle in the beginning!?
Can anyone estimate how much the battery will degrade if you keep this car for 10 years. Like how charging speed is affected and max mileage.
You can get your Costco card on your app so you don’t have to carry the card around
My $47k 2021 ID4 will update the charging map / distance when it is charging. Why doesn't a $100k car do this?
That northern Nevada stretch is brutal..so boring but an easy drive
Honestly, we were owed this after the Surge, because what was that?! 😭😭😭
Factor meals are awesome. Been using them for a couple of months. Great quality food every time. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Upload an advert for Toymaster.
I would rather have a Lucid over the plaid at the price.
FCostco, no card needed. Come in he EXIT. Walk past the checkouts and he bathroom is on the righ.
Question - wouldn't a channel name more relevant to electric cars bring you more subscribers / views ?
I pay for a TH-cam Premium subscription to get rid of the ads but now channels like this one have their own ads. You just can't win.
You just got an hour and half of free content and the ability to skip through the ads. Not sure why you have a problem.
Google Sponsorblock
If you're not into it, tap the right side of the screen a few times on your phone. It's 10 seconds every time, you'll get right through the advertisement.
If you're paying for TH-cam premium, he's making the most out of your watched minutes, so I don't think you're really hurting the bottom line there.
That seems ridiculous no Auto brightness my Hyundai Veloster 2017 has that and that's way cheaper
Literally says 279 miles right under his finger, says it doesn't tell you how far it is to the first stop :p
The argument that efficient cars are more affected by driving conditions feels a bit iffy to me, that would imply that the less efficient cars would lose less efficiency at worse driving conditions???
Watching you complaining about only 280kW while charging at a full 22kW in my AC-only EV is something 😂😂
You can put a microware in EV car and heat these meal and eat them in the car to save more time.
1:24:22 lollol lol
When are you going to do 1k in one charge?
So basically buy a Porsche instead for best of all worlds.
Great range, average efficiency.
Lucid or Taycan ? Uhmmm 🤔
If you just have a wife. Taycan. if you have a family? Air. I love my Air. Just buy a Cayman or 911 on the side and you will be much happier. lol
For a $130k car, it has a lot of software failures, IMO.
its not uncommon on high tech cars. I had BMW's that cost the same and Idrive 7 and 8 are pretty much polished interface had some problems. Sometimes Kyle is not use to it. As he had said he had not driven the car that much
Did I beat Kyle?? 😂
stop complaining, kinda ruins the video
STOP STOP STOP THE CRAPPY MUSIC RALLY SUCKS
So a car with 500 mile range can only really go 275 miles! Great job.
Way too hyper about charging speeds. Just drive a combustion vehicle and drive straight thru. Owning an EV requires some patience. EVs do not do well in cold temps, how would you not know this. Imagine if it was 0F.
Kyle I understand the Lucid came with free charging. But how much does it actually cost to charge from 10% to 100%?
@kyle - for each trip, you should total the time spent charging vs the overall trip time. That is the most useful stat… so people can decide how relevant the extra couple minutes charging is
Did the SLC -> San Jose this summer in the Y performance… tesla had me charging every 2 hours or so… still beat the Google Maps estimate by a couple minutes… but would have liked the extra range of the lucid to do every 3 hours instead… will try the new Lucid this summer…
