Excellent review. Driving a Lucid for two years now it is difficult to describe to people that the driving experience and just being in the car is worlds apart from anything else. I'm not alone in thinking that it is not only the best EV, but the best car of any type in its class.
Its a great EV with great range, but not to rain on the Party , the Pure I drove isn't any More "Luxorious" than my 2021 Toyota Camry XLE V6 at half it's price. unless you consider faux leather luxury? More power? on paper yes but the 430 hp wasn't mind blowing. So to correct your statement it is probably the Best EV car to drive to date but it is not the Best car in the world.
I own a Lucid AGT. I have had it for two years. I am not an EV person. This car is outstanding. Never looked back after the purchase. Best car I have ever owned.
Lucid needs more attention. There isn't a single EV on the market that comes close. I don't care what you spend. Hopefully lucid gets the recognition it deserves.
Air GT owner. Good for you not being swayed by a company that has 100+ years under its belt. Sure the Pure could have had some more bells and whistles IMO for the $70K price tag, but now that you can upgrade even the Pure to have those bells and whistles, it can be a really good deal. I love that you make Range the key factor in your comparison instead of the 0-60 nonsense that everyone else yaps about. For me Range is King. I consistantly get 470 charging mile range but I never push it beyond 450 actual driving miles before I charge. And while I can afford a Sapphire, IMO the reduced range coupled with only a 1.2 second reduction in 0-60 just isn't worth it. Tonight my Local Lucid dealership had a VIP event with the Gravity, and while we couldn't touch it, its numbers outshine every other EV on the market in its class. I'll be getting one of those to keep miles off my GT. To be fair I have looked at the EQS 580, and have given serious thought to get one of them as well, but there are so many "if's" that I simply cannot pull the trigger on it. FYI, you can get under the hood of the units, they don't want you to, but there is an air filter under the hood that I can only imagine Mercedes will charge an arm and a leg for. Over all I think you did an excellent comparison of the units, and based your decision on the specs that really count....Good for you! Take Care and good luck!
...and Lucid air filters are easy to get/ change ? 😂 How many overall dealerships has Lucid compared to Mercedes ? What is the market for 100,000 limos ? What will depriciate faster? How sound is the company/future? Do you also have Fisker Ocean? Are you a Biden voter?
@@ms-jl6dl I hope you realize that the EQS depreciation has been seriously bad - up to over 50% in a year (a little less for low mileage), to the point where coworkers and I have talked about it as being a possibly decent deal used if you can put up with the awful looks (arguably the worst of any of the modern EVs today, even over the BMW grill catastrophes). The Lucid Air hasn't even depreciated half as bad. It shows that Mercedes didn't put out a good product for the price with the EQS, and pretty much everyone knows it - I found even the Mercedes salespeople in my area have talked trash about it to me when I was looking saying it's not a true S class, which when combined for the price vs. offerings after checking it out in person, resulted in me ruling out getting one. The Lucid Air Pure was a far better buy, and while it has its rocky parts too, they've been working pretty fast on fixing issues, which is largely on the software side. The drive is pretty unmatched & reportedly similar with the Taycan (never test drove one so I can't say personally), it's super comfortable & quiet at even over 100 mph and on long road trips, and has an incredible amount of space all around.
Lucid is manufactured in Arizona. Arizona is the 1st manufacturer located and will stay open and continously expand. The 2nd Manufacturer is in Saudi Abrabia. They made a smart cost effective move building a factory in Saudi Abrabia, because Lucid is extremely in high demand overseas.
Thanks for the great review on Lucid Air. My husband is super happy to own Lucid Air as an early adaptor a year ago. Great value for the money in terms of quality, range and moreover the best feel good drive with many more great features. We love the fact legroom in the back is great especially convenient for our tall teens 6ft plus. We have been using Frunk storage space quite practically.. it is luxurious with quality interiors and Phantom Blue is stunning and no wonder Lucid turns heads😊
No doubts here. Lucid air is the best ev in the market! No one comes close! I can’t wait for the Lucid Gravity to come out. I’m selling my model Y to get my Lucid! I’m excited!😍
Love the Lucid Air. Sad that they aren't selling more of them. Unfortunately, automotive journalists are "rewarded" for pushing other brands such as Porsche Taycan, ignoring the better car such as Lucid.
The Mercedes came out years after the Lucid and still looks outdated. The Hyperscreen is tacky as well. No front trunk and terrible performance. Not sure why anyone would pick the Mercedes over the Lucid other than perhaps not knowing the Lucid exists. Lucid Air continues to be the absolute best EV on the planet.
We were just as excited as you are when we got our Lucid Air Touring. Unfortunately the apple car play doesn't work as it does in a BMW or Mercedes and many times it doesn't work at all. The infotainment system doesn't affect safety unless you have to keep fiddling with it because the iPhone does't connect or the radio keeps going back and forth between pause and play.... nonstop! The whining noise from the motors is not bad but I prefer the quietness in our EQS and Mercedes augmented reality navigation is way ahead of Lucid's navigation. The Lucid air is great considering it's the first car they ever made but again it's their first.
Lucid are setting the bar for luxury EVs. I have a Model S Plaid and I love that I can fit my road bike in the trunk without removing the front wheel. I'll be waiting for the Lucid Gravity
1 yr Air Pure AWD owner here. How the Merc is superior: Burmester sound system, interior ambient/rave lighting (subjective), maturity of MBUX tech How the Lucid is superior: driving dynamics, interior space, overall packaging, comfort, aesthetics, range...basically everything else :) Can't imagine ever wanting to drive a different all-purpose vehicle, except for maybe the Sapphire.
I test drove both the Lucid Air Grand Touring and the Mercedes EQS 580 4matic. It's certainly a matter of taste, but the Mercedes looks much better to me, both inside and out. The handling and almost floating in the EQS while driving impressed me, as did the hyper screen and the whole operation. In my opinion, Lucid still has 20 years of development ahead of it to reach the level of Mercedes.
100%. I did the same testing. Going with the 580. This guy didn’t mention all the tech in the interior or mention why the hood doesn’t have space. Because of the air purification.
You missed most of the trimmings regarding your comparisons such as panoramic roof (Mercedes) better OTA and infotainment (Mercedes), and the reason the front of the Mercedes doesn't open (massive HEPA filter). I agree the performance tech is outstanding in the Lucid, but really, how many folks are going to take their premium car to the track and measure their quarter mile times? I care about luxury, form/fit/finish...and range. Thank you for your review!
And cost has only come down recently due to many factors at least with Lucid…too expensive (even the Pure), lack of manufacturing, and not enough agile development with its software…
@@max-timothy-lev9834 My lease is $600 a month with almost no down for the Lucid Pure. And it doesn't drive like a weird boat. I'm not crazy where that center control panel is located because the driver has to take his/her eyes off the road if the driver needs/wants to fudtz with it. Also that same panel does not have a hood over it so that bright sunlight at the right angle won't wash out the panel. But the true fix is to both raise this center panel possibly also making it more vertical to avoid wash out. And possibly adding a partial hood to also help against wash out.
I just ordered a new 2025 online (3-4 months to delivery), based on reviews (before I saw this one), cost, and the fact that I don't like the looks of the Tesla. The thing almost sells itself. But to get to their needed volume, they need to get more showrooms or pop-up demo availability. They are missing some big markets.
