"You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" is a must AND "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" when she teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys is an absolutely HAVE TO!
You beat me to it @teethang1! Yes this is my favourite Pet Shop Boys song. I especially love Dusty's solo (vocal, she isn't playing electric guitar, although maybe she could at the time, no idea 😉). I like the music video as well.
She was insanely good throughout her long career. I loved her singing back then and I believe she led the women of the British invasion. Just a remarkable talent all-in-all.
The late, great Dusty Springfield. What a tremendous talent. I hope that at some point you will do her duet with The Pet Shop Boys, "What Have I Done To Deserve This?". For more of her 60s stuff, you can react to "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "All I See is You", or "Wishin' and Hopin'". Thanks for reacting!
Only Dusty could pull at your heart strings when she sang. You Don't Have to Say you Love Me Wishin and Hopin Son of a Preacher Man The Look of Love One of the best of the British Invasion females along with Petula Clark , Cilia Black, Lulu, etc Glad you both enjoyed her. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
She is just amazing but actually her roots are Southern Irish, not British . But any way she is just fantastic and so brave being the first female superstar to come out as being gay, very unusual back then. She actually started out in a group called the Springfields, not sure, family members maybe . Her real name was very Irish sounding
@@sallybannister6224 I don't think she ever actually "came out" as in publicly proclaiming her sexuality. It just became known who she was and she never denied it. It was pretty much an open secret as I remember people saying she was lesbian when I was at school in about 1970. She was a truly great artiste and by all accounts kind, modest and a really lovely human being.
She was a legend. The first lady of the BrItish invasion .RIP.. She hit it big here about the same time The Beatles did.. What you need to do is react to the other queen from back then and that is Petula Clark, Downtown is a must.. super reaction as always
One of my first memories as a child was this song playing in the car as mom was driving downtown! I was born in '64 so it must have been a few years later and still popular.
"All I See Is You" "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" and " Baby Blue/How Can I Be Sure? Middle Of Nowhere/ I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten"/The Look Of Love/ Little By Little/Some Of Your Lovin/Wishin' And Hopin'' and my favourite " Going Back" :)
Dusty was part of the female British Invasion along with Petula Clark. You need to listen to Petula also. Her songs Downtown, I Know A Place and Don't Sleep In The Subway were all big hits in the early 60's
Please react to "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" by Dusty. Nothing but class from a classy lady with one of the best voices ever. God Bless and RIP Dusty.
Her song *_The Look Of Love_* is AMAZING! The original recording is so clean and precise that professional audiophiles have for nearly 50 years used it to diagnose, calibrate, and set up their systems. This is the version from the 1967 movie Casino Royale (a spoof of Bond movies). The song was nominated for an Oscar and is in the Grammy Hall of Fame. th-cam.com/video/kDMT6uYuDvM/w-d-xo.html
Dusty was the British "Queen of Pop". She had a bunch of hits in the '60 and '70s. IMO her best stuff came from an album she did in Memphis. That gave us "Son of a Preacher Man".
Dusty was one of the greatest singers ever was inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing. You don't have to Say you Love Me really shows her range. This was great. A Brand New Me is another great song. Also noted fot doing covers as good or better like Linda Ronstadt. Am I the Same Girl, Don't Make me Over by Dionne Warwick, did a duet with Tom Jones I'm gonna Make u Live Me. Terrific 👍
Another one of my favs -- good picks today! "I Only Want To Be With You" (1964) was Dusty's 1st single to chart in the U.S on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking @ #12. Part of the British Invasion ignited by the The Beatles at the beginning of 1964. One of the key British Invasion female singers to successfully hit U.S charts, along with Petula Clark). Dusty charted 19 singles on the Billboard Pop chart, 4 reached the Top 10, zero #1s (a 1987 collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys, "What Have I Done to Deserve This?," charted highest, peaking @ #2 for 2 weeks) .
I always find it strange that nobody mentions 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' when Dusty is brought up. One of my favourite tracks of hers and a fantastic showcase of her incredible voice.
And much later ...in the early 80s Jackie ( a physically sexy lady like Dusty) co wrote virtually the biggest selling song of the year........Bette Davis' Eyes
I can't believe this! I heard this on a classic Casey Kasem from 1982 about an hour ago. It was a long distance dedication. I wanted to request this for Female Friday... and then you put this video up. Pretty awesome! This is a great sounding 60's song. 😎
Yay! You guys are really hitting it out of the park this week. I love what this song brought out in you guys! It's what sets you apart from others in a great way. Dusty does have plenty of great songs, soulful gems like "Some Of Your Lovin'", slow seducers like "The Look Of Love", big ballads like "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", " I Close My Eyes and Count To 10' Upbeat pop in the vein of this with "I'll Try Anything", "Stay Awhile", "Magic Garden". Plus so many others! You can't help but love Dusty! I would say "Some Of Your Lovin' " and "I'll Try Anything" would really appeal to you.
Great choice. Dusty was an amazing singer and was known for soulful voice. She appeared on Tom Jones TV show a few times around 1969 and they did some great duets.
Dusty had such a great voice. Early 1960s - it was her first hit. I love this song and her look. Stuff from that era was so bright, upbeat and optimistic.

Listen to Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt's duet " I don't know much (but I know i love you)" .Probably the best duet ever. Do the live version 1990 Grammy Awards. Amazing!!
Love Dusty. She died 13 days before her induction into the R and R Hall of Fame in 1999 of breast cancer. She was only 60. She was great! Awesome voice!
Thank you for sharing . The color of the video back then was in Technicolor. The camra tubes in the camera had rare earth phoshors on the screens that made the color brilliant than ones used today
In this same time frame, you had Petula Clark's "Downtown" a lighter pop sound, and Cilla Black's "You're My World" with more power still, both brits. SO MUCH MUSIC SO LITTLE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A very fun song and a tremendously talented woman. Love that you are exploring the performers with multiple samplings though there are still many great talents that you haven't gotten to yet with even a single listen. Dinah Washington, Rosemary Clooney, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Helen Reddy and Judy Garland-the 100th anniversary of her birth is coming on June 10th and she has so many great recordings (Old Man River, The Man That Got Away, The Trolley Song, Battle Hymn of the Republic etc.) besides Somewhere Over the Rainbow-among them.
Love her! Love this song! May I suggest Petula Clark as well "Downtown" is a great place to start ❤😀 This is the same song ya'll reacted to by The Bay City Rollers(a cover)
@@diannestucki5732 i agree. There are a couple more versions I'll recommend to you as well. I only want to be with you versions by The Tourists and another version by Volbeat(all here on You Tube) 😀
The first time I've ever hit the thumbs up before even watching a video. Dusty is one of my all time favorites ! You have to do "The Look of Love" next. Dayum, she is so sultry singing that song.
Dusty was the original British Invasion...this song came out about 3 weeks before the Beatles debuted their 1st song, I wanna hold your hand. Yes this was colorized afterwards.
Dusty's brother Tom was a song writer. One of his songs was performed by The Seekers, "I'll Never Find Another You." If you haven't done a reaction video for The Seekers, check them out.
Classic '60's sound! Remember it well, listening to my small portable transistor radio, waiting for my favorites to be played! :) Excellent Choice, just listen to Dusty and How the Violins SOAR! :)
I remember hearing the Bay City Rollers version of this song in the mid 70s but lately, I've been listening to The Tourists' 1979 version sung by a pre-Eurythmics Annie Lennox (alongside Dave Stewart), which I completely missed back then.
She died after a five-year battle with breast cancer at the age of 59 in 1999. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later that year. Her fans hold "Dusty Day" every year in London to remember her music and raise money for breast cancer research.
Dusty was considered pop/blue eyed soul as her genres. She had a remarkably (seemingly at least) long career for someone who sadly passed very young. She died from a recurrence of her breast cancer just months before her 60th birthday. She was later inducted into the rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and her friend Elton John did her induction. He called her the best white singer he had ever heard. incredible talent.
Her most beautiful song is The Look of Love. Her voice and the way she can express feelings with her voice in that song is just great. Completely different from the songs you heard so far.
I love how this song is so open and how the love interest can be anyone since Dusty was a lesbian and anyone in the lgbtq+ community today can feel included with this song from 1964. Samantha fox did a cover of this song in the 80s and like Dusty Samantha is a lesbian.
Dusty Springfield! What a talent! So soulful! Dusty was close friends with Martha Reeves of the Vandellas and was instrumental in popularizing Motown music in Britain. She performed many Motown songs by various artists.
Her first hit in the pop charts. Many don’t know that Dusty was originally a folkie with The Springfields with the tune Silver Threads and Golden Needles.
For those who don't know, Dusty Springfield was more than a singer. She is responsible for so many different people making it in the music industry. She was known to be selfless and always standing up for different artists trying to make it. She was truly a gracious lady. As a teenager in the 60's, her music was everywhere. I loved her then and still love that voice today. Take the time to learn about her. Truly worth it. Love and peace my friends.
This one alone was huge for her, Dusty was 1 of the greats of British female recording artists including hosting her own tv show during the latter 60's - back then you only got that on true talent and being very special, unlike its more general free for all of who gets their own show these days based on more dubious genuine factor of that. To this day Dusty remains one of the most respected and highly regarded vocalists of all time adored by her fellow peers back then in her era, and even now by later artists (hence how the 90's collaboration with Pet Shop Boys came about). She and Cilla Black were also great friends.
Her major international solo breakthrough track. Dusty was the premier iconic female pop star to come from the UK in the 60s A unique soulful, yet soft and smoky voice. Theres a cover of a Charles Aznavour song she covered called Yesterday when I was young, absolutely beautiful.
I was so blessed to grow up in the sixties , thank you lord , sixties music so upbeat. Dusty and Petula Clark were such a huge part of the British Invasion
"I Only Want to Be With You" was Dusty's breakout debut hit in 1963. Check out these other Dusty hits: "Wishin' and Hopin'," "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," which was her one and only #1 hit, and her incredible take on a classic that many others have recorded, "The Look of Love," but hers is one of the best. If you've already done "Son of A Preacher Man," then you've done her best song. But these others are excellent, too. Dusty Springfield was one of the best parts of the British Invasion. Gone much too young.
A group I haven't seen ANYONE react to yet and has a strong summer vibe is Summer Breeze by Seals and Croft. Also, We May Never Pass This Way Again by Seals and Croft was played at every graduation ceremony in the late 70's. Both great songs.
To my mind, this is one of the best songs ever written. It manages to be one of the most upbeat songs you could find, and yet simultaneously moving. It’s also just one hell of a tune.
Now go explore the Dusty Springfield Universe, her music, her times, the way she evolved in her sound, then emerged into the 80's scene with the Pet Shop Boys. Dusty is a Goddess in Pop Music where are lot of people are concerned, she defined an era, with that Voice.

I was head over heals in love with Dusty Springfield when I was in 6th grade! She still sounds great over 50 years later! :)
Dusty was the premier iconic female pop star to come from the UK in the 60s
A unique soulful, yet soft and smoky voice.
Theres a cover of a Charles Aznavour song she covered called Yesterday when I was young, absolutely beautiful.
I was so blessed to grow up in the sixties , thank you lord , sixties music so upbeat. Dusty and Petula Clark were such a huge part of the British Invasion
dusty was my girl her voice was great what range and sound 1960s music is great.
I bought this record when it came out and I still love it.
"You don't have to say you love me" and "Just don't know what to do with myself" are two of my favourite Dusty Springfield songs.
This is one of my all time favorite songs.
A group I haven't seen ANYONE react to yet and has a strong summer vibe is Summer Breeze by Seals and Croft. Also, We May Never Pass This Way Again by Seals and Croft was played at every graduation ceremony in the late 70's. Both great songs.
“You don’t have to say you love me” is her best!
my favorite all time female artist, Dusty was incredible Human Being and singer to me she moves me like Whitney Houston. 🙏☮️✝️
To my mind, this is one of the best songs ever written. It manages to be one of the most upbeat songs you could find, and yet simultaneously moving. It’s also just one hell of a tune.
You got to do "The Look of Love ".
Yes!
One of my favorite female vocalist of the time loved her… Very talented
Oh yeah man that was awesome
Sadly missed, she had one of the best jazz/blues voices ever. If you haven't listened to her "Son of a Preacher Man" then you're missing out 🙂
They already have
An insanely catchy classic. A brilliant talent and one of the greats.
Dusty Springfield was one of the finest singers of her generation, and you have to check out more of her songs.
Now go explore the Dusty Springfield Universe, her music, her times, the way she evolved in her sound, then emerged into the 80's scene with the Pet Shop Boys. Dusty is a Goddess in Pop Music where are lot of people are concerned, she defined an era, with that Voice.
