As a kid in the U.S. when this record was new, we discovered Dusty, I was 8 saw her on Tv and she sold me on her powerful big voice, just great! Probably the greatest pop and R and B vocalist to ever come out UK!!!!! even us little kids thought she was really cool. I mean we have ears ya know. Love the strings on these old records. They had so much class.
Thanx I love dusty I dont care what she sings and I love her life and the way she lived. She had a hard time in gopher career with people judging her but when I was little I didn’t know anything other than that this beautiful voice made me smile and happy. She always had great backup instrument and singers. If she was alive today to record they would destroy Harper with fake music. I’m glad we have this memory of her. Thanx again. She was so bubbly
Thank you for these wonderful oldies you put on now and then .. they mean a lot to me and there's always a small tear that seems to trickle done my cheek. Every one brings back a fond memory. You are precious.
@@ericmoore1173 hello Eric 😊 nice to meet you! The weather is usually very very hot over here… 100-108 degrees.. right now in Vegas it’s around 99 degrees 👍
Hi Kristin, Greetings from Cornwall UK. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Here's a bit of extra info about her you may be interested in. Dusty perfected a signature move when wearing long sleeves, of putting her arms up in front of her face with her hands and wrists turned inwards for a few seconds. This was because she was extremely short sighted and could not see cue cards or auto cue. She had written reminders on the inside of the cuffs to quickly read. This was especially useful when she had her own live TV show. Sadly though, she is no longer with us.
Her real name is Mary O'Brien. Regardless she is one of the best singers in music history. A Brand New Me was another of her great songs. Along with You don't have to say you Love Me, Son of a Preacher Man and Wishin and Hoping. Worth to react to. Keep up the good work
her album "Dusty in Memphis" produced and overseen by none other than the legendary ahmet ertegun (turkish genius and owner/talent spotter/rock n roll nut of Atlantic records) when she had the very best sessionists and unlimited studio time. the recordings were "difficult" but the end product was as soulful as anything Aretha did,and thats a HUGE compliment.
Her real name is Mary Kathryn OBrien. One of favorite singers, a phenomenal voice. I'm a music historian so i suggest reviewing her version of Anyone who had a Heart. I prefer it better than Dionne Warwick's. Keep up the good work
This was Her early song, then she released maybe her biggest hit song "Son of the Preacher." People again thought she was a Black female artist, because it was on the radio. Only until these people started making their TV debut on shows like "The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday night back in those days in the 60s, did they find out Dusty was in fact, a white British woman from England. Love her still today over 50 plus years later.
The name Dusty Springfield does sound Hollywoodish, however *insert joke* Busty Springfield would be more Hollyweird lol That song/performance was cute indeed though. I really, really enjoyed the Uniform Shop story, that was adorably funny. Thanks for sharing (: 💯💯
I think she was part of the Springfields early 60's? (Dear Hearts and Gentle People) Her brother wrote with Paul Simon on some great hits, including for the Seekers. Loved her voice.
I live Dusty's voice, her real name was Mary ,she had her own show in the U.K and was hugely successful, unfortunately she had a hard life because she was gay and couldn't come out back then of course. She died of cancer in the 90s .R.I.P Dusty
Hi thank you loads for this, could you please do a reaction to her performance of 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' it was her biggest UK hit peaking at number 1 and number 4 in the US charts. She did so many great songs. Another one I'd love would be 'I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten' such a beautiful song😍
Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien was Dusty's real name. It's something to contemplate that she was no doubt thinking of another woman as she sang this song. It's tragic that she had to hide her true self for so long, due to her sexuality. I also like The Tourists' version, with a young Annie Lennox on vocals. By the way, Ms K, I came out of hospital today after ten days fighting a severe infection in my leg. I'm slowly mending. 🤒
AWW!! i am so sorry P.M!! you poor dear!! I just saw this comment!! are you ok?? goodness.... you do exactly what the doctor says and TAKE ALL OF THE PROPER MEDS UNTIL THEY ARE ALL GONE!! we dont want a chance of the infection coming back!!
@@sandwichman100 All fabulous. Cilla "stole" Anyone Who Had A Heart from Dionne Warwick. The record company preferred Cilla Black's, much to Warwick's anger. 👍
That’s a cute story, but I can’t imagine that a good Catholic girl like Dusty wouldn’t have memorized her lyrics. Her famous arm ballet when she sang launched a thousand drag queens back in the ‘60s. Funny, since she was a Lesbian. Team Dusty forever! th-cam.com/video/mbaySb6HXqs/w-d-xo.html
You actually resemble Dusty quite a bit. Put on a blonde wig with stacked hair and BINGO! Dusty lives! Mary Catherine Bernadette O'Brien. A redhead Irish Catholic girl.
To this day, Dusty is Still a Super Star!

Queen of the hand movements, and moves, with a great voice

The dress is actually light pink or more accurately " ashes of roses ". This radioactive green is colourised.
Best female voice ever to come out of Britain.

Thank you
She looks like a doll. Real talent is so right.
Haven’t heard this song in a while. Love it. And the part when your voice goes high.....awesome.....so cuuuutttteee
Best female singer ever my favourite.I Love this Lady always have always will.🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶
My favourite female singer ever no one comes close to Dusty and never will.
This takes me back............... I love this song!
that video is SO 1965. i was nine years old then, and i remember it (and so much more) so vividly. how fun to see it come back around again. :)

Provided also a hit to British / Scottish pop band Bay City Rollers in the 70's.
And The Tourists.
She was great they don’t make like her anymore. Died so young but her music lives on forever. The 60’s has the greatest music.
👊❤️🗣Yes! This is exceptional music! 🙏💕

@@KristinKali All's well. Back to my version of "normal" (if such a thing exists). ❤️
When did you live in Fresno? BTW, great song.
in the 60's pop stars had to be able to sing, not just look good and have the techies fix the sound
remember lulu, cilla and petula?

You don’t have to say you love me & Stay Awhile by Dusty Springfield plz

Such a shame Dusty had a sad life during a time when being gay was still a big no no even though it was legal
Been trying to message you on FB :(
