That's Dusty's stage name. I especially love "You Don't Have to Say You LOve Me"-- you'll hear her amazing range. Also, "Son of a Preacher Man." Equally sexy, smooth, jazzy.
Holy cow! You reacted to Dusty! What a great singer, with cross-genre range. Her essential "Son of a Preacher Man" is as _soul_ as it comes, "Spooky" is ultra-sultry, and her early hits like "I Only Want to Be With You" are gorgeous pop fun
YESSS! Dusty's voice was like whiskey and velvet all at the same time. When she was recording, she stopped and told Burt Bacharach that she thought it was too sultry/sexy sounding. He said - essentially - good, keep doing it like that! :D Do more Dusty: You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, Son of a Preacher Man, and for a real poppy one: I Only Want to Be with You. Oh, yeah her vocal control was insane!
"The Look of Love" was one of the most covered songs of the 1960s. No wonder, it was composed by the legendary songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Several different artists had a hit with it, although I think Dusty's version is the best. Although the one by Sergio Mendez and Brazil '66 was also excellent. Although Dusty was part of the British Invasion, she sounds more like part of the Blue Eyed Soul sound that arose in the '60s on the heels of artists like the Righteous Brothers. Check out Dusty's other big hits, "I Only Want to Be With You," "Son of A Preacher Man," and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me."
Dusty (RIP) was one of a kind, an amazing vocal stylist. She's got a huge catalog of hits: "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", "Son of a Preacher Man", "Wishin' and Hopin'", "I Only Want to Be With You", and my personal favorite "Brand New Me". She was part of the 60s British Invasion" only rivaled by our own, Miss Dionne Warwick. These two women did great justice to pop music, primarily singing from the Burt Bacharach/ Hal David songbook.
This song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the movie Casino Royal. The movie soundtrack, also sung by Dusty Springfield, is the version usually played on the radio.
Dusty was one of my moms favorites. Her records played on the RCA often. I have all her songs in my collection. She has a very soulful voice with a depth of character few others have. You are going to really like this Lady. Do This Next.... "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me"
I first heard this in 1967’s Casino Royale, which was a parody on the Ian Fleming’s Bond Book of the same name. It took my breath away then and still does.
Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE, better known by her stage name Dusty Springfield, was an English singer. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of blue-eyed soul, pop and dramatic ballads, with French chanson, country, and jazz in her repertoire. Her body of work is enormous. Everyone wanted to record with her.
Wow what a name! She could have used a different one for each day of the week 😁. But what does OBE mean? I guess that's some weird British thing, right? 😛
I think you. mean to the patron who suggested it lol! And, yes I agree. Love Dusty and particularly this song by her. She told Burt she thought it sounded to sultry/sexy, and he told her that was good, to keep doing it just like she was :D
Being a kid in the sixties this song brings back so many memories. Hot summer nights hanging out in the backyard with this on the radio. Great times....
Dusty is the greatest white, female singer of all time. She can sing anything better than you ever thought it could sound. She had it all. Her vocal interpretations are second to none. RiP Dusty, taken from us by breast cancer, 25 years ago today....on March 2, 1999. Listen to her sing Goin Back and Some of Your Lovin by Carole King, and Losing You, written by her brother Tom Springfield for her. 24 Hours From Tulsa, Just a Little Lovin, and Tupelo Honey are just a few gems....and of course Son of a Preacher Man, You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, and Spooky. She truly was the Queen of Blue Eyed Soul. Her full name is Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien, a woman of Irish Catholic descent, born and raised in London, and who attended convent schools. DUSTY was her stage name.
@samuellfishburne584 yes, she sings the songs others sang better than they did. I love her originals and covers. Many covered her songs too, just not as well.
I was a kid when this song came out, I would sing along and imagine I sounded just like Dusty (not even close). I love how the instruments mimic the velvety softness of her voice.
The sax solo is styled after Stan Getz's playing on "The Girl from Ipanema". Getz recorded an instrumental version of the song before the Hal David added lyrics to it for Dusty Springfield to record for the soundtrack to the 1967 film Casino Royale. Dusty Springfield had a big hit in 1966 with "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". And also had a hit in 1969 with "The Windmills of Your Mind". But her version of "You Don't Own Me" is tops.
Have you reacted to one of the top soul songs of the Sixties, "Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield. Comes up on all the "Greatest Songs of the Sixties" lists. Dusty started out in a group with her brothers called "The Springfields". Her brother Tom wrote songs that became huge hits for The Seekers.
I’ve never heard this version before. It’s a great song but I like the radio version they always played where she ends the song singing, I LOVE YOU SO!
I truly hope you check out more Burt Bacharach. His compositions are true American classics. Thank you for another wonderful reaction. You always bring an unexpected twist that makes me appreciate the song all the more.
Dusty refused to sing in South Africa because she agreed to do the concert with the understanding that there would be no Blacks segregated from the Whites, when she got there there was segregation so she did an about turn, hopped onto the plane and flew back home. She also promoted lots of Black American singers and encouraged them to tour in the U.K. in the 60’s…
Dusty was one of the best female singers ever. For those of you who are just listening to her for the very first time, or, don't know all of her best songs here is a complete list: 1) I Only Want To Be With You 2) Stay Awhile 3) Wishin' And Hopin' 4) You Don't Have To Say You Love Me 5) You Don't Own Me 6) Anyone Who Had A Heart 7) I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself 8) Son Of A Preacher Man 9) The Corrupt Ones (Movie song) 10) The Sweet Ride (Movie song) 11) What Have I Done To Deserve This (With The Pet Shop Boys) 12) Nothing Has Been Proved (Written by The Pet Shop Boys for the movie "Scandal") 13) Arrested By You (Beautiful song!) 14) In Private (Great song!) 15) Reputation (Great song!). (NOTE: The songs #13, #14 and #15 were Dusty's awesome last songs before she died of cancer). Enjoy all of these tunes!
@@chellj8175 Hope you like a number of real good unknown songs on this list. If you like any other artist and don't know their best songs let me know we'll see what we can do for you, especially Canadian bands and singers. Later!
Greatest British female singer ever, voted 2nd in the world by Billboard after Aretha. I personally think The Queen of Soul was a good title for Aretha, but Dusty was multi-facetted and beats Aretha for #1 female Singer because of that.. Dusty challenged Aretha on Soulfulness, but also reigned supreme in Pop and Power ballads. She sang 'Folk' initially with her two brothers as the group 'The Springfields'. Everyone thought that was a family name, she ran with that and chose the first name 'Dusty'. The Springfields did great 'three part' harmonies, but her brothers were happy to back her and she lead their sound. A solo career has never been a more obvious move and more deserved. Her catalogue of hundreds of tracks is packed with so many classics, but just as many lesser known gems. Like Scott Walker she was continuously hounded by the paparazzi and she was later scandalized about her personal life choices. These made her an idol to a new audience and she recorded some of her last classics with The Pet Shop Boys. Hard to imagine her ever losing her position as the best of the best. Please react to more of her hits, you'll love them and so will your subscribers.
This song was written by Burt Bacharah. He wrote many, many hits and has a very distinctive style of writing. I encourge you to look up Bacharah tunes. You'll find that you have heard a lot of them without even realizing it.
An amazing song in the 'bossa nova' style, you might want to check out a its contemporary "Girl from Ipanema", which is just as good, if not better(make sure to use Astrud Gilberto's original Portuguese/English version)
Oh man! Doggone! This is not Dusty's original record (from her 1967 album of the same name), which made it to the U.S. charts. (I don't know if this one is a re-recording, or maybe it's the version that was used in the movie Casino Royale. 🤷♀️ ) But the original (th-cam.com/video/FQi8uXSIxMA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=56Qsq9Z5GdPiAHKg), is much better, IMO. The sound created in the studio (sort of echo-ey, for lack of a better word), plus the string and percussion arrangements, make a huge difference IMO, and somehow make the original sound a lot more sultry and sexy to me. Even if you don't react to the original on the channel, I suggest you listen to it anyway.
Dusty Springfield is not her real nAme. It's a long Irish name, but then again, she's from Ireland. I think she is Fantastic and she has had a lot of hot songs. She is very influenced by Motown and an array of finne music and singers. She was very big in the 60s and came back with the Pet Shop.Boys, much better... Sadly she has died. . May peace be with the

Man do I really miss music like this. She was great.
Boy, I do too!
The phrase blue-eyed soul was created for Dusty Springfield.
The signature Bacharach brass near the end.
Dusty Springfield sang this song in the 1967 movie, Casino Royale.
My favorite female vocalist of all time.
You would love her song Wind Mills of my mind !
RIP pretty Lady. You were one of a kind.
Dusty had such a gorgeous silky voice. Son of a Preacher Man is one of my favs by her
Holy cow! You reacted to Dusty! What a great singer, with cross-genre range. Her essential "Son of a Preacher Man" is as _soul_ as it comes, "Spooky" is ultra-sultry, and her early hits like "I Only Want to Be With You" are gorgeous pop fun
All great suggestions, especially Spooky. Hardly any reactions of that out there.
Love Dusty!❤

You really want to see her perform live in one of her fabulous dresses.... Captivating.
This is such a romantic song.

Dusty Springfield has no peer-- my opinion. Sexy, jazzy, unique.
I’m more used to the Sergio Mendes version of this song but I LOVE Dusty’s voice!
This song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the movie Casino Royal. The movie soundtrack, also sung by Dusty Springfield, is the version usually played on the radio.
One of my favorite female singers. Everything she did was done very well gone way too soon.❤

Love her voice and this song !!! I love the 60’s music so much ! I was born in 62!!
Me too… I was shaking my booty as a baby to ‘My Boy Lollipop’ 😂
Oh yeahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Check out more of hers, please.

She was a wonderful singer, died way soon. Check out "Spooky" and "You don't have to say you love me."

Great voice. Great song.
The 60’s again with Dusty Springfield, she sang songs written by Burt Bacharach.👍🥰
I heard this song on my dad's expensive stereo system in the early 70s. He'd like relaxing music. This song is smooth.
One of the sexiest songs ever. Another sweet sound by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
The sax solo is styled after Stan Getz's playing on "The Girl from Ipanema". Dusty is an amazing artist. My parents had a couple of her albums.

A sexier song has never been sung so perfectly.
Great choice!!!
such intense restraint
Gran gran cantante Dusty. Listen Spooky
Her voice is so naturally sexy
She was exceotional
She was in a Trio called The Springfields and their biggest called ( Island of Dreams ) from 1965
R anB fan but Miss Springfield had that Swag!!
I'm a bit late to the party here, but there's another Dusty song that always gets overlooked - 'Am I the Same Girl'. Give it a listen,
One of my favorites, Angela. So, so good.
Song written by the late great Burt Bacharach. He’s wrote all the music. You would enjoy his greatest hits album.
JMB Would love to hear your comments on The Windmills of Your Mind and No Easy Way Down two essential Dusty performances. ciao
All time classic
composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David
Both proved that the good don't die young.
Great music she made with her beautiful voice ❤️
Breathing cool... then heat.... with a pulsing beat. Wow.
One of the best R&B albums ever-Dusty in Memphis. Check out No Easy Way Down.
Mama, Look! NO STRINGS! :D :D :D

That scratchy sound- I hear several. Likely playing Latin percussion instruments like the guiro and afuche
Such a beautiful, sexy sound. Epic ❤
I Only Want To Be With You!
From the 1967 movie Casino Royale.
A white woman with soul.. Much admired black musicians, an incredible singer.
Try her “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” - video - she’s beautiful.
