Love you two and Dusty Springfield is/was a legend in the UK. She has many hits here to choose from. Sadly she died on 2 March 1999 aged only 59 from breast cancer.
This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). Her most famous song is "Son Of A Preacher Man" but she had a lot of hits such as "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "Wishin' & Hopin' ", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.
When soul legends like Ronnie, Spector and Martha Reeves look up to a singer, it says more than words can express. And they both looked up to Dusty Springfield.
A huge star this side of the pond, with a career that lasted many years despite ups and downs. This song blasted out of radios several times a day even years later, and brings back many memories for lots of people I'm sure
Dusty was a FORCE all through the 60's. So many hits loved by so many people. Please do "Son of a Preacher Man" and "The Look of Love". Pure gold. 💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫💙💫 And Asia, it's "Son of a Preacher Man" that I can imagine you singing. You'd definitely do it justice!💫
This was originally an Italian song from 1965 by Pino Donaggio called “Io che non vivo( senza te)” that is “I who don’t live without you” which was a huge hit. Dusty was in the audience at the 1965 Sanremo Italian music festival(which is still being held annually) when Pino sang it and she fell in love with the song even though she didn’t understand the Italian lyrics and she had a friend write some English lyrics to the melody. The rest is history!
Asia and BJ so great to see you getting into Dusty. She was such a huge star from the early to late 1960s, she even had her own TV show in the UK. She was also a guest on Ed Sullivan and all the US music shows. In the studio was one thing but live, she just laid them in the aisles with that voice and the attitude. Viva Dusty !!!
Mary ( Dusty was stage name) was incredibly shy and suffered stage fright before every performance, she was also very short sighted and refused to wear glasses as not being able to see the crowd properly was a positive for her nerves
Baby Dolls!! This is Dusty's biggest fan! (So I say! )They have a youtube video of her live with this song- she's fabulous! She cuts her eyes at her backup singers once when one was off key or something! It's so cool! That SOUND was the "wall of sound" developed by Phil Spector (who was married to the great Ronnie Spector -The "Ronnie" from Eddie Money's song, Take Me Home Tonight". He sings say"Just Like Ronnie say, Be My Little Baby". That was HER biggest hit. Phil Spector went crazy and killed someone in his old age so Ronnie was smart to get away from him. Dusty's live song is under Dusty Springfield- You Don't Have To Say You Love Me. She looks GREAT in this one! Please review that one for me!😘😘
Dusty( Mary Katherine O'Brien)was one of the greatest singers ever. Was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing. Very many good songs, I only Wanna be With You, A Brand New Me, Wishing and Hoping As Linda Ronstadt did covers as good or better than the original singer. Am I the Same Girl, You don't Own Me, Anyone who had a Heart.
This is how we get SO hooked on you men; we'll even beg! We're not proud! 🙂This was one of the most dramatic and atmospheric Songs to come out of the 60s. It started out as an Italian Song - believe it or not! This always makes me recall the foggy nights and dim street lamps of Britain when this was Number One way back in 1966 - the kind of atmospheric nights we don't get anymore... It's such a beautiful Song that begins dramatic and swells into this great crescendo! If you think the Song is theatrical - you need to see a performance she did of this Song which was really theatrical! Do a search for it!
Hi Asia & BJ, glad you enjoyed the song. I watched her Tv show with my parents in the `60`s, I think on the BBC. If you want to see a short clip of her performing this song on that show, google "Dusty " singing “You Don't Have To Say You Love Me”, it`s 3 mins 3 Secs long.
This is a great study in vocal restraint and control. Less is often more. You don't have to do every vocal exorcise you know and throw the kitchen sink into every song. You know the power is there and its controlled. Professional singing.
This British female artist had so much soul, and her voice was top notch. She died a couple years ago I think. I was a little kid in the mid 60s when Dusty was on top of the music world. With a name like "Dusty" it has to be good! I'm a Dusty too, just check out the name at the top of this comment. Thanks folks. God Bless
Miss Asia we'd LOVE to hear you sing this to us...we need that. Took a look around recently and in my opinion, there's too much cactus....we sure could use more flowers..... hearing you serenade us with a rose of a song like this one please 😀
Dusty Springfield is buried in a a church cemetery in a town called Henley-on -Thames in England which is where the George Harrison estate Friar park is.
Love the way you appreciate this , I prefer her voice more stripped back like in son of a preacher man , but she had one of the best voices of her generation .
I think, as a boy in London in the early 60s, Dusty and Shirley Bassey were my dream ladies. Dusty came from West London and was extremely popular and highly-respected at the time.
Dusty was a real badass. She was openly Bi, leaning strongly towards Lesbian......IN THE 1960'S! She was brave, trust me, I was around back then and that kind of stuff was swept under the welcome mat! Of course, the rest of us were busy with burning bras, concussion due to knockin' on that glass ceiling with our hard heads, civil rights, the sexual revolution, being allowed to open a bank account without your father or husband signing for it. We had to wait until 1971 or 1972 for that one. And of course, the assassinations, JFK IN 63, MLK and Bobby Kennedy in 68. Anyway, we were pretty focused in a lot of directions, but that didn't take away any of the guts and bravery it took, every step, every day!
As far as the look Asia is talking about, that is more 30s & 40s big band era. May I suggest an LBD like some found in the movie "To Sir with Love"? 1966 would've had modern(Mod) colors &miniskirts.
She sang beautiful songs but her heart was in soul.she loved blackl music.people gave her big hit stuff but she wanted to sing differ.ent.b.t.w.she was irish really.best singer black or white but but she loved the great black singers .
There is a real fun song, and it's Mike. It'll make you laugh, there's a video. The video is just so funny, it's so funny. It's confederate railroad that's the group the song is called trashy trashy😊
Tell Yvonne you know that hes a song for everything. Eh Ashley I said it, how do you? Skip it, right? The truth is that men like women, men do men like women? A little bit a little bit on a try she said
This is from 1966 and I've loved it for my whole life and I still get goosebumps hearing it. I LOVE IT!
Absolutely!
Same here!!!!!!!
What a voice this woman had RIP Dusty. She was an incredible performer.

....and 'What Have I Done To Deserve This' the song she did with the Pet Shop Boys :)
From the rich blues of "Son of a Preacher Man" to the incredibly sexy "Spooky" to the silky "The Look of Love," Dusty just brought soooo much soul.
When soul legends like Ronnie, Spector and Martha Reeves look up to a singer, it says more than words can express. And they both looked up to Dusty Springfield.
Thanks for the thumbs up.

Been loving Dusty all these years. Thank you for playing this wonderful song.

She was one of the greatest singer/songwriting females in music history. She was a true trail blazer and influencer. She was Awesome!
There are lots of versions of this song on TH-cam where Dusty is singing live, and her voice was even better live.

Dusty was a remarkable vocalist, the REAL thing indeed...

What a pleasant, rich voice she has. Lovely tone. So much control. Nice reaction guys.
Mary ( Dusty was stage name) was incredibly shy and suffered stage fright before every performance, she was also very short sighted and refused to wear glasses as not being able to see the crowd properly was a positive for her nerves
There is a great video out there of her doing this classic. She has so much soul.
Asia & BJ, you'll love her "The Look Of Love" and "The Windmills of Your Mind"!!!
Yes,, tho her great song A Brand New Me gets overlooked. One of my favorite songs of all times
If you think that is great the most overlooked is her cover of “What are you doing the rest of your life.”
Asia - YES! Please do cover this classic. Do it in your own style and MAKE IT YOUR OWN. ✌
Btw...you guys crack me up! Thanks.
No autotune in the 69s. Just talent.. She sings it so effortlessly. ❤
"Wishin' and Hopin' " . . . . and "Son Of A Preacher-Man" are two more great songs by Dusty
I’m just echoing everyone before me! Blonde Soul! ASIA DO IT!!! We would LOVE to hear you cover this song we love!!

Thank you, Asia and BJ!
Wonderful song, wonderful reaction.
Kudos to you both!
She has a voice, no matter what she’s singing that gets deep down into your soul. You can feel the lyrics in yourself because she brings it.
1960s soul singers. So much great music, nothing like it now

This artist never made a bad record. A truly great artist with talent unbounding.

Always like seeing the live performances best -- no auto-tune no digital mixing equipment.
There are a lot of Dusty gems to delve into. She was a proper legend in so many ways.
She was one of my all time favorite female singers. RIP
Oohh my y'all too funny😂 I do love this song.. it reminds me of my aunties singing this❤❤
Her masterpiece. Chills.
Oh Dusty. One of the all time greats. I loved you in the sixties and still do. ❤
I have this CD. Every song is Great! Forever Dusty 💓
LOVE Dusty Springfield
This is a great study in vocal restraint and control. Less is often more. You don't have to do every vocal exorcise you know and throw the kitchen sink into every song. You know the power is there and its controlled. Professional singing.
Love Dusty from Hong Kong. Our Queen❤❤❤❤❤
The Look of Love would be an excellent choice.
My goosebumps have goosebumps. Her voice is so, so full of emotion.
I remember her singing this!
Thank you for visiting the past!!
I was 7.
She had so such feeling in her voice!
This amazing lady has such an extensive body of work including 'In The Middle of Nowhere' , 'Going Back' and the sultry 'Spooky'.
This British female artist had so much soul, and her voice was top notch. She died a couple years ago I think. I was a little kid in the mid 60s when Dusty was on top of the music world. With a name like "Dusty" it has to be good! I'm a Dusty too, just check out the name at the top of this comment.

Would love to hear you cover this!!
This was a slow dance at every party, because it was good for just swaying and getting closer and closer. I still know every word.
Dusty Springfield is buried in a a church cemetery in a town called Henley-on -Thames in England which is where the George Harrison estate Friar park is.
RIP, beautiful Dusty. Sang a "Bond" soundtrack, "The Look of Love"!!!!!! Classy, is the right word, Asia.
There is a live recording on TH-cam "Dusty Springfield - Live on the BBC 1967"
Yes. There are several videos of Dusty on TH-cam. This song and her other smash hits, too.
Asia, definitely cover this song it would be fricken awesome ❤ Great classic song from a great artist
Love the way you appreciate this , I prefer her voice more stripped back like in son of a preacher man , but she had one of the best voices of her generation .
She is in the pantheon of all the top female singers of all time❤
🎶Asia, most definitely 👊🏾👍🏾🎶 without question!!
I think, as a boy in London in the early 60s, Dusty and Shirley Bassey were my dream ladies. Dusty came from West London and was extremely popular and highly-respected at the time.
One of Dusty's best songs. She is in a league of her own. I bet you an pull this off, Asia. Show us. Dusty was the goddess of blue -eyed soul.
Dusty had the most wonderful voice, total magic and never been equalled.
Asia, Yes, cover this. It's right in your wheelhouse! 😘, PJ

That's a "crank the radio up to 11 and sing along in the car as loudly as you can with all the windows rolled down" type of song.
For sure I was impressed with what a great singer she was even when i was littl 🎉
Go for it Asia !!
Legendary voice !
Great singer. Reminds me of listening to the radio when I was a kid.
Doesn't she remind you of Adele even with her eye makeup? She was considered blue eyed soul. RIP Dusty. You were magnificent.
The performance video adds SO much to the song
My favourite all time female singer.....
Man, I was probably 5 when this came out. I vaguely remember my parents listening to it. But wow, what a great song.
You want to see her performing .....There are many videos of just that.
As far as the look Asia is talking about, that is more 30s & 40s big band era. May I suggest an LBD like some found in the movie "To Sir with Love"? 1966 would've had modern(Mod) colors &miniskirts.
You should try her "Son of a Preacher Man." You won't be sorry.
I remember Elvis Presley did a cover of this song around the early 1970s but I was too you to remember Dusty's version which is also good.
She sang beautiful songs but her heart was in soul.she loved blackl music.people gave her big hit stuff but she wanted to sing differ.ent.b.t.w.she was irish really.best singer black or white but but she loved the great black singers .
You should take a listen to her song " I only wanna be with you"..from 1965... awesome song..
The great Dusty Springfield. Magnificent. Thanks for this reaction to a great performance.
Glad you enjoyed it
I recommend “Got your Number” from Hughes Thrall
Awesome tune
😅😅😅

Love that song. And love that song by Dusty Springfield. Wish I could sing, that would be my opening song.
her voice is unmatched
Died too soon at age 60. Fell victim to breast cancer.
The Queen of British blue-eyed soul :)
Fantastic singer
There is a video of her singing this song. Ed Sullivan show? I've seen it before in Black and white video.
Dusty had her own weekly show on TV in England during the 60s and I think it was from that. I think I prefer that performance to the studio recording.
Dusty was one of a kind. So soulful!
Angela...yes do a cover!! Do anything!! NOW!!
Pure Quality Right There.
"The look of love " is a great song by her
