Nice reaction This song was released in1968. Disco was the mid to late 70s. The part at the beginning where you couldn’t find the lyrics are not a part of the song. It was just an intro. The real dramatic part of the intro is actually the intro for one of her biggest hits You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me. For this song I.think I would have recommended the original studio recording. I think it is more powerful than this live version. In fact, for me personally, I prefer that a reactor use the original studio version of a song to hear the artist’s original intent and to hear a song the same way most of us heard it for the first time.
Dusty is the epitome of class, grace, humility, style, fashion, and omg, her voice is still in a league of ONE, incomparable, inimitable, incredible.... Dusty is the Queen of Blue Eyed Soul and could sing anything. This was from her Royal Albert Hall performance in 1979, live, in front of Princess Margaret.
Indeed she was a star performer. Like you, I discovered her music years after, so glad I did. Beautiful voice. I live near Henley-on-Thames, of take a shortcut through the churchyard past her grave, always stop for a moment and charmed by the fact that there's always fresh flowers laid, a much loved singer with a superb catalogue of songs.
Not the Queen but The Queens sister Princess Margaret... Had it been The Queen he would have said... Your Royal Majesty and not Your Royal Highness ... LOVE LOVE LOVE Dusty .... She was such an INSPIRATIONAL HUMAN.... I ALWAYS LOVE your reactions.... and as far as I am concerned you are you are an honorary BRITT and we LOVE you here
Hi Britt, Just watched this and yes, there was a disco version of this which was an underground classic in clubs like Studio 54 (NYC) and the Embassy Club (London) in the 1970s: th-cam.com/video/JUOo6i0nhr0/w-d-xo.html
Shout out to the BBC and , to a lesser extent, ITV for their investments in popular music shows in the 60s and 70s. The reason for so much content from these decades.
I believe this is a 1979 performance at the Royal Albert Hall, in the presence of HRH Princess Margaret (the Queen’s younger sister). Although originally recorded in the 60s, this performance of the song would have been in the disco era so it is not surprising if the arrangement reflects that.
Check out "You don't have to say you love Me" and "I Only want to be with You." She also sang a great duet with Burt Bacharach called "A House is not a Home." Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/8J3J2GQckF4/w-d-xo.html, She died way too young at almost age 60 and was born in London. She was a wonderful singer and performer.
so good to see a dusty song that isn't son of a preacher man. you sometimes forget the queen was young with brown hair when you didn't grow up with that image of her.
Great comment. I'm also fed up when all that is presented on TH-cam is 'Son of a Preacher Man'. For goodness sake, let's have 'Walk on By' or 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me'. (Yeah, yeah, I know they're on there if you request them, but reaction videos seem to always feature Preacher Man). And yes, the Queen was young once. Come to think of it, so was I!
Surprised you haven't had time to react to dame Shirley Bassey, one of the most amazing female vocalists, try I who have nothing, or the Bond theme Goldfinger. As Welsh vocalists go, right up there with Sir Tom Jones.
She has so many classics. This isnt one of them, tbh. "The Look of Love" from the Dusty! album is sublime. "You Dont Have to Say You Love Me" is great too. Many others from '63-66.
This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). "Son Of A Preacher Man" is her most famous song. But she had a lot of hits such as "Wishin' & Hopin'", "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.
4 suggestions - Key Largo by Bertie Higgins, I've Been Loved by the Best by Don Williams, Amarillo by Morning by George Strait, and Lake Shore Drive by Aliotta, Haynes Jeremiah (Chicago locatioon)
I believe it reminds you of the Beatles, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" By the mid to late 70's everything adult contemporary had a disco beat put behind it. Even 60's songs like this were given a disco beat for a second life. This is not the stuff you would hear in a real club in the city or Bklyn.. This is the type of disco you would hear at an anniversary party or adult singles meet-up event, replete with cheesy wide lapel polyester shirts, Polyester Bell Bottoms and porn-mustaches...EEEWWWWWWW
I must be living under a rock.. my apologies this is my first time here in your channel. Your voice is amazing and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your life with me. Little River South Carolina
You to check out the current band Lawrence ... killer brother and sister pop soul band with amazing vocals from both. Check out the live "acousticish" versions "23" and "Dont lose sight" Seeing them live here in ATL in September at the Taberbacle.
Dusty knew how to drink, how to love women and how to sing, but I don't think any of those ever gave her what she really really wanted. Except maybe the booze...
Nice reaction

Dusty was the greatest female singer Great Britain has produced. She has never been beaten. Miss you Dusty.

Dusty was one of the best singers of the '60s. I suggest you listen to "You don't have to say you love me." She could and would sing anything.

The Queen enjoyed a bit of soul
Hi Britt,

I loved Dusty and all of her big hits! She could sing!
"Going back" is a great sentimental ballad by Dusty. It's nailed on that you'd love it 👍💖
Dusty sang quite a few Bacharach & David classics. You should find time to listen to her Best of compilation. So many incredible songs. ❤
My favourite Dusty song! ❤
Hey Britt good to see you again. Dusty Springfield and Dolly were friends also. DOLLY did a very good cover to Dustys son of a preacher man.
One of the best singers ever. Sadly taken too young with breast cancer.
Dusty in Memphis was a phenomenal record. She was a soul sister.
Shout out to the BBC and , to a lesser extent, ITV for their investments in popular music shows in the 60s and 70s. The reason for so much content from these decades.
Thanks you have a genuine appreciation of this music that always makes me smile .
Glad you enjoy it!
And you're a class act too❤
Superb Dusty.
Dusty was the best

"The Look of Love". Smokin'.........
This is from at least ten years after she had a hit with this song. You should go and listen to the original.
I like Dusty singing. I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself and Spooky. etc And for an up tempo banger, I Only Want To Be With You
You should listen to her other songs called ( Spooky / In Private / Wishin' and Hopin')
Love your videos
Thank you 😊
Oh, Dusty is a diva... a class act for sure. Proto-disco.
I wish I could see how gracefully she’s aged. But I can see the Dolly Parton shirt with no problem.
Dusty was absolutely magnificent and a gay icon ahead of her time. I worship her existence. ❤

Parts of this song have a strong echo of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles.
Big time you can really hear it and she's really contemplating on it
They were singing "The Bitch is Back" in the Intro. Queen Elizabeth was known for having a good sense of humor, so I'm sure she found it amusing
She has so many classics. This isnt one of them, tbh. "The Look of Love" from the Dusty! album is sublime. "You Dont Have to Say You Love Me" is great too. Many others from '63-66.
There was not a single song Dusty didn't make better!

No it's not disco!
Why can we never see the video? It's like raindrops on the Dolly shirt?
React to dusty son of a preacher.

Hi beautiful.
Hello
Dusty knew how to drink, how to love women and how to sing, but I don't think any of those ever gave her what she really really wanted. Except maybe the booze...
This was just a lead into the song. not in the lyrics
is this disco?..lol
Nah. No as long as Maggie Bell still goes unknown..
