      Akchualy, it was George Cayley who was credited with inventing the seat belt in the 19th century. Nils Bohlin, on the other hand, is credited with inventing the 3 point seat belt in the 1950s.

      Inertia dampners are the best and a seat belt has proven in a space ship not to save lives. That's why we don't see them on seats on the bridge or anything else but traditional road vehicles like car rovers and hover vehicles.

      The context of this is that Voyager's crew provided the Borg with the same nanoprobe weaponry that they used to fight species 8472 in exchange for safe passage. So the Borg were fighting 8472 in other battles, just with a weapon they were given the design for. Thus saying they prevailed in those battles is perfectly accurate, if ungrateful in human terms.

The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. The frog lets the scorpion climb on its back and begins to swim. On a serious note. Seven of Nine's story is really a disturbing one when you think about it.On one hand yes she was kidnapped and assimilated by the Borg. It's the only life she knew, and he comes Janeway to strip that life she knows to force humanity on her. Obviously I'm glad she found her humanity, but there are some ethical questions there. I bring this up because there was a flip of this story line later on where Ichib (a boy that was once Borg) was forced to return to his parents, and the ethical questions around all that. Good shit all around!

    • @miguelaprendizaje.2918

    • @SSingh-nr8qz
      @SSingh-nr8qz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@miguelaprendizaje.2918 That's a matter of opinion. The Borg, from our perspective, are evil. From the Borg perspective, we are the primitive conflicting hated fill creatures that kill each other and suffer. Seven of None actually described this well when she was learning to be human again. Hue from TNG also showed the appeal of the Collective. Also Seven of Nine's parents are idiots and put their kid in danger, but that is a different story. My point is how I LOVE this kind of "villain" character study and understanding why being the bad person is Start Trek is really a matter of perspective.

    It was never said if they had safe passage through Borg space. Was the Borg just too busy rebuilding after being almost obliterated or did Voyager just exit Borg space as quickly as possible even though that might mean doubling back. Maybe severing the connection gave the Borg pause to try and reevaluate what had happen as to whether just as Voyager had a strategy against the aliens from the matter universe but one against the Borg as well. Obviously, leaving much unsaid is often best for a writer but there's a few questions with this one.

    To me it seems BLATANTLY OBVIOUSL that the earlier "disagreement' between Janeway and Chakotay (I apologize if I UNINTENTIONALLY mis-spelled that) was SPECIFICALLY designed as a misdirection/ploy just incase the Borg were listening in to the two of them. A deception to try to mask/hide the fact that Janeway and Chakotay had developed a contingency plan incase the Borg tried their own FEEBLE attempt at treachery.
    Hence Janeway's saying to Chakotay: "Scorpion".
    I mean SERIOUSLY, why ELSE would Chakotay be ready in a Borg Regenerative Alcove?

    This was one of the very few moments when Chakotay acted the part of a First Officer. He went to his captain with his concerns and they devised a plan of action that relied on his obedience and his independence to pull off. The captain, conversely, was able to proceed with her plan by relying on her first officer to do his part when he was needed.
    This is the relationship Picard and Riker had in nearly every episode of TNG, and which no Trek after it has come close to replicating.

Also, I thought Borg space was vast, I remember that the Borg turned on Voyager but they didn't make it really clear on how Voyager got through their vast space without them honoring their agreement. It should take many weeks if not months to pass through Borg territory and without them honoring their agreement, Voyager should have not made it through or they should have had to take a very very long way around it adding years to their journey.

    • @christianresel8051

      Simple thing : Borg need to adopt to tank something. Voyager thou? Ablative armor (YES, she has that NORMALY as HULL ya know? She in line with Defiants and Akira's and more modern warships ment to, when need arises, fight the borg) PLUS multiphasic shielding, aka changing their frequency constantly wich is the main reason she survives those at least 3 hits from 8472 unlike the borg cubes. Also the borg upgrades increased her armor and shield power a lot (like they do in STO btw. loved it back then when it was the best you can get, still love the buffs to all systems they give) so it was obvious a mere frigate of them couldnt do shit against a ship able to 1v1 a TACTICAL CUBE and survive(not win, that was alway's out of question).

      Or JJ not actually taking on the challenge, being clever and playing in the same sandbox that had been established for 40-plus years. He could have still done the same exact time period cuz that time was only loosely fleshed out anyway. The bones were there and that was about it. If he had had some decent writers, decent help and been a decent partner in the cause of Trek, it could have been good. It's utterly embarrassing that newbies coming into the franchise only knowing those movies, they think that's what Trek is and that alone?!? As if. I remember years ago explaining how I felt about Trek, what it meant to me and this person said something like 'oh wow, I would have gotten nothing like that out of these movies' and then I explained the 09 film and what I knew of the others (never saw them in theaters or fully otherwise as there wasn't a point).
      Just like the new Star Wars could have been exceptional if they had taken George Lucas's original treatments for a sequel, combine that with a few new things here and there of course as things need to advance, but more importantly as a framework attempted to the best of their ability the expanded universe material. There are reasons why that worked but they were clearly tossed out the window with the bathwater. That's my three-legged stool to stand on: a melding of expanded universe stuff, George Lucas's original treatments for a sequel and some new things to make it mesh.
