Simply said, but so matter-of-factly accurate. It wouldn't be a grand duel, or even a "fight". It would be a sexual assault.
As much as I vastly prefer Kharn, who has consistently been an absolute badass, he’s canonically gotten his shit kicked in by Abaddon, when they fought. Kharn’s damage to Abaddon was all superficial, while the Betrayer was fighting on his back foot just to not get instantly killed, which he nearly did when Abby got pissed off. An actual bloodthirster that spoke for Khorne had to interrupt and tell them both to stop being such massive dipshits.
The reason people might think it would go the other way is because Kharn has consistently gotten the respect he deserves in lore, slaughtering greater daemons, one-shotting knights, and leaving a titan as a hollow shell. Up until recent years, Abaddon’s portrayal has been completely botched in multiple areas, making it hard for the actually good writing to shift opinion on him, for many who have followed the lore for a while.

@@Turnil321 I was just thinking maybe a band of Black Legion would try to overthrow him through strength of numbers then turn on each other. Or some other chaos warband would try to take the mantle of Champion of Chaos undivided from him. Maybe someone from the Iron Warriors for example.

In theory I actually kinda like Abaddon for all the reasons this video points out. He's Starscream without his Megatron, and the forces of Chaos are suffering for his leadership but they don't have anyone better to take his place. It's a good hook for a villain if done properly. The problem seems to be where Games Workshop hears this and says "No really Abaddon is the worst bad guy who ever bad guy'd. You should fear him more" and they retcon another aspect of his character for dumb reasons.
Starscream in some continuites is actually a good commander but is full of himself. Megatron keeps him for a reason
I feel like any of the chaos primarchs or greater demons / demon princes could do better than him. but for whatever reason, GW chooses a relatively weak, regular marine to lead all these badass mofos. As if Abbadon could take on half of his lieutenents / "equivalents" in single combat. he's just not the guy to be leading such a force as chaos
It would be best if they just used him as a plot device and just as in the video, turn him into a herald of the true bad guy and not the big bad himself. It's really pointless to keep retcon ing details and make him seem smarter, and a bigger bad than what he is. I'd rather prefer him be turned intoa plot device or a precursor to a plot point, serve as a herald to the main plot villain and not be that villain himself.
The issues seems to be that early GW wrote themselves into a corner with Abbadon and have been trying to get themselves out of it with retcons. A better approach would have been the 13 BCs being lead by various Demon primarchs and chaos warleaders with Abbadon being the one who finally won out. Have all those embarrassing defeats be against others maybe even be the way they died. Look at Archeon in WHFB he wasnt the first Everchosen but he was the most memorable one and fits the mold of the big bad of his setting better than Abby does his.
I dunno, considering he hath to be grim and dark for realies and to the core its kinda weird that Erebus didn't gut him and use him for sunday mass already.

Horus did more in 7 years than Abaddon did with 13 crusades over more than 10000 years.
Horus also had to go against an Imperium at its peak with the Emperor still around, a lot of the primarchs and its armies not stretched to the breaking point.
Abaddon couldn't win with 13 attempts against an Imperium in shambles, a near-dead Emperor, no primarchs until after his 13th attempt, and its armies stretched so thin that paper would be thicker.
if he was a true warmaster for Chaos, the Daemon primarchs would have committed themselves to Abaddons cause like they did with Horus. shows how much faith they have in him.

1; You are almost 100% wrong about the fight for Cadia itself. Abaddon originally just wanted to have the Blackstone fortress destroy Cadia from Orbit, but the Nul-aray prevented that.
Plan B was to attack the shield generator on land. Abaddons first attack almost broke the castle, but timely intervention from the Falanx and Saint Celestine held his forces off.
Then he personally attack the illysian fields/pylons, and even against imperial saints, Trazayn the infinit and Creed, he was winning. Crawl gets the Pylon working full power, the eye is closing, but the Nul-aray disappears, and to save his forces more unnecessary losses, Abaddon has the ALLREDY BROKEN remnant of the Blackstone fortress smash Cadia, thereby winning the battle for Cadia, as he originally intended.
How prey tell me is that a loss for Abaddon? All of this is just straight IN THE TEXT of "Fall of Cadia!" Do your homework please.
2; He didn't get anything out of Cadias fall?? Are you blind or stupid? HE cut the fucking galaxy in TWO! Fully half the imperium is slowly dying without the astronomicans light. Read Lords of Silence, Devastation of Beal or Spear of the Emperor, to get a glimpse of just how fucked the Dark Imperium is now.
And Guilliman did not have to break of his crusade to save ultrama from Morty. He was planing to end the crusade before he got the news, that Morty was attacking his home with great force. Read the Dark Imperium series!
The indomitus crusade did not reclaim even most of what was lost to chaos in the time after the "endless night". Abbadon had almost no interaction with Guilliman at all, it was Magnus and Huron Blackheart, that failed to stop him. And so on. You sir are simply just wrong!
I don't blame him as a character, mostly the writing for his character, they wrote him with one plan in mind just to set him up for failure. This would normally be acceptable if there were several different objectives, but having him continue the same tactic more than 10 times is absolutely just lazy writing, almost as if he was never supposed to be the bad guy.
Abbadon is such a sore loser he needs to blow up Cadia because he couldn't do it otherwise
@starshipeleven I'm not afraid to say I agree with you, I wouldn't mind a revamp of the lore if you could really even call it lore at this point. There are several characters and plot points that just have me hooked and then there's some ridiculous shit no one needed that turns me away. If it wasn't for the mini's I probably wouldn't be as interested.
I think they should’ve switched up the leader in some of the black crusades, possibly if Abaddon only led like 2-3 it wouldn’t be as bad.
They retconned the whole "taking cadia" as the only black crusade objecrive a while ago.

He was similar to Starscream he just had an Honor code and was loyal to Megatron but he was betrayed rolled with the Autobots and got back in to the Decepiticons. He was a good Fighter and Flier he died a heroic death, too bad Energon ruined it. He was different but did have Starsceam traits
@@bryanmanuel4945 yeah, tbh armada starscream was among my favorites. Though 1# for me is prime starscream, armada is close. Plus, to his credit armada screamer was actually pretty badass- took a starsaber through the chest and a blast from unicron to put him down.
I mean lets face it, back in the day everyone was saying Tyranids were the biggest threats to the galaxy, or otherwise it was the Necrons. No one said Chaos was the big threat ..... never. The fall of Cadia and the great rift was bought in so that Chaos and Abaddon look like an actual menace.
Maybe because they have been showed to be a more prominent threat while Chaos just seems to lol it's way. It's threat and a major one once it unites but with Abbadon at the head well... It's meme Chaos not Lore Chaos
Probably because chaos depends on humanity to survive, so they will never win by defeating humanity, chaos is there to maintain the plot while humanity comes and goes with other foes like tyranids and necrons, once an enemy goes out of the picture, chaos makes an appearance, then another menace comes, lets say green skins, chaos retreats, big war is fought against orks, after like a hundred years things seem to be cooling off and bam! chaos strikes again. And so the process repeats... forever.
@midgetydeath the Tyranids in particular invalidate chaos as a final threat. It works far better in fantasy
Tbh they should’ve made chaos undivided command base a war council with each champion representing each god that comes together when their goal is aligned, with the black legion being the cream of the crop that’s so united in their hate for imperials they can actually tolerate each other long enough that can only controlled by chaos if all legions are under one banner. That way they have their big bad boogeymen but also explain why you don’t hear them succeed in destroying the imperium much not because of one guy’s constant incompetence but because most legions rarely see eye to eye to command them
But the great rift only made the Tyranids even more powerful because of the great awakening, hence making chaos even more irrelevant than it already is.
We need either a new chaos champion or some self aware character development

The dialogue between him and talos in Soul Hunter is amazing. Abadon trying to sell his new dark crusade and talos just tells him that every other time was a failure why would this be any different

The demon primarchs just want be degenerates in the warp. They don’t care about some new civil war there just relaxing with their own schemes.

To play devils advocate, the imperium had been pumping everything into Cadia to prevent that slaughter and corruption from spreading out into the imperium.
Meanwhile, wielding chaos is like herding rabid cats.
Not enough to justify this, just giving credit where credit is due. What might justify it, is the numerous other characters they have tried to make badass and failed at. I think it’s more just GW fucking up.
See it would be easier to give him credit where it's due if he didn't suck himself off constantly. Like if he was humble I could totally get behind him as a character but thinking he is hot shit just makes him look weak with the incredible amount of failures on his belt.

HE LOST AT CADIA
Abbadon is still more threatening than Ghazghkull. Cadia is certainly a lot more difficult to conquer than Armageddon. Cadia is probably harder to conquer than all of the craftworlds combined, plus the Tau empire thrown in on top for seasoning. Most tomb worlds are probably easier to take than Cadia for crying out loud.
I still can't understand why the Four Chaos Gods bothered with Harmless the Armless when absolute chads like Slambo are out there in the Warp.
Probably my favorite bit that I've read with Abaddon is when he tries to recruit Talos Valcoran in Soul Hunter, some random-ass Night Lords guy with wacked out geneseed that occasionally lets him see the future from a broken company with less than 50 people left in it that he doesn't even lead; and the Night Lord effectively laughs at him, tells him to go fuck himself and spells out in detail why Abaddon is bad at his job, and why no sane person would ever willingly work for him. Ol' Abaddon doesn't have an answer to any of this, so he just shoots him and leaves Talos with a sorcerer who was supposed to try to convert him with some kinda warp spaghetti, but that fails to, because apparently most of the Black Legion are also bad at their job.
Listen here, Talos is the most based Night Lord to ever exist. The reason the sorcerer failed is because Talos personally told each of the 4 chaos gods to effectively go fuck themselves.
Night Lords are slaves to no one.

What should absolutely happen is that Sigismund’s final words to Abbadon should come true and be replaced by a better warmaster of chaos and not just Abbadon but better but someone who could do what took Abbadon 10,000 years in a matter of days.
Huron Blackheart screwed with the Imperium more than Abby in 10k years. I'd say he's got a good shot. B)

Honestly GW should do what Alfa did and bring in Uriah. Bring the last priest of earth back to life and have him become the leader of Chaos. It would make sense, Chaos's leader being someone who truly speaks for Chaos United.
How do I know this? Because.... I know I am right.
Mhm.. not too sure about Uriah being an antagonistic person/villain in the setting.
SPOILERS for The Last Church ahead:
Personally, I think it was rather poetic how he ended in The Last Church. In the story, it showed how this (at that point in the story) old man, Uriah, argued for/ believed in the value of having belief in God/Divine being/s as a system for helping to give people comfort, morals, and foundations for society.
The Emperor (Revelation) pointed out how many terrible things have been done in the name of God/gods, and that “faith” in such things was unnecessary, a relic of superstition, the belief in the unnatural, without evidence or credence in a purely logical/rational universe.
The Emperor was determined to build his Imperium upon “The Imperial Truth”, that there are no Gods, no worshipping of anything, and that the universe should be approached from a purely logical, measurable, empirical view.
Uriah was initially convinced, leaving the church with the Emperor and watching it put to the torch. But when he looked back, heard the old clock toll, and considered living in the future the Emperor would choose to build... he walked back into the burning church, never to be seen again.
I feel like it would do injustice to Uriah’s character to say he would willing accept the darkness of chaos and the dark powers of the warp, much as Abfusa and company themselves mentioned/alluded to in that podcast.
Chaos is a hard power to Write a single antagonist for. It is by its nature disunited, and can’t truly “win” without destroying the Imperium/universe of the setting. Personally I feel like Abbadon should have died at the battle for the Cadian Gate, finally destroying Cadia and creating the Great Rift across the galaxy as his lasting legacy. After that, each chaos god might have a chosen champion in their own corrupted Primarch, but no central, singular antagonist.
The idea of unity between them for any real time conflicts with their nature as warring manifestations of human emotions, drives, and forces of nature/the universe.

Same here. I have 2000 point black legion army with a old commision-painted Abaddon (whom I've actually had to glue his arms back countless times because they indeed snap if you look at him wrong). I unapologetically love them in all their pathetic edgelord glory.

I think what really seals the whole "Abaddon is a bitch" thing for me (Besides all the things he talked about) is in *Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2* where The Chaos Campaign is literally all about you doing the rest of Abaddon's crusade for him because he's too busy being everyone's bitch.

It's gone to the point where I can only refer to Abaddon as "Failbaddon The Armless". I have a model of him that has missing arms, instead of fixing it I just made a rule-set of him. One of the moves I wrote has him attack 13 times but they all miss unless the opponent is pretty much already dead.
I always thought it'd be great if the ultimate Chaos Leader was just a human. Like a Chaos combination of Comissar Yarrik and Skarsnik, with some powerful chaos powers of his own, sure, but succeeding through cunning and playing all his enemies against one another.

During quarantine I read the first few hours heresy books and got into 40k. So I hear about this abbadon guy and I think, no way this is the same guy who was Horus’s first captain. Like, there are sooo many better choices for the new warmaster of chaos! At least at the time of reading the books. Cuz the primarchs aren't undivided chaos, they're affiliated to one of the four Gods, they don't get along too well, some aren't even sane enough to lead (Angron), they can't as easily get others to work for them (Magnus, etc) due to different affiliations, they're more smaller scale generals than warmasters.
Sure Angron can rape him, but Angron can't exactly lead a fleet or force against worlds with competence. same case for a bunch of chaos, Ahriman is too busy finding for spells, Kharn is too busy killing for fun, the list goes on.
Abbadon has the whole deck stacked against him, he doesn't have the numbers, industry, morale, popular support, troop superiority, fleet or the fortified worlds of the imperium.
It's like tryin to run space ISIS against the USA. I'm just surprised he actually did damage honestly, the dudes pretty competent all things considered.

If Abby does get killed in the lore to come somehow, the best chances for Chaos will lie with a champion from 1 of 3 highly dangerous legions: the Death Guard, the Alpha Legion or the Iron Warriors. Anyone from either of these legions will really wreak havoc on the Imperium.

Be'lakor: considering that he's the first daemon prince, another ultimate champion of Chaos, and is overall extremely powerful, I think he could definitely work. I imagine he would control the Black Legion behind the scenes via using Abaddon as a puppet leader.
Perfect Horus Clone: Since Fabius Bile created a perfect clone of Fulgrim, I don't see why he couldn't create one of Horus. Just to clarify, this clone should NOT be a carbon copy of the original. He should be his own character with his own personality, motivations, and goals.
Probably Huron Blackheart. He has the second biggest lot of Chaos Space Marines and there have been a lot of whispers that should anything happen to Abby, he's next in line.
Hell, Battlefleet Gothic flat out says this would happen in the Necron Campaign.

Never understood why they just had Abaddon lead all the black crusades. I think it would have been better if other chaos lords lead the black crusades, and maybe have Abaddon working in the background slowly building his forces and his prestige up before he actually leads a black crusade. It would make him appear less incompetent in my opinion.
You know who would've made a perfect pick for a title of Warmaster of Chaos after Horus croaked? Perturabo.
Think about it - he's a daemon primarch of Chaos Undivided, he's merciless and relentless, and he has a grasp of strategy and logistics on par with Guilliman which is probably the most important element if you wage a galaxy-spanning campaign. The only problem with that choice would be the fact that there's no way Pert at the head of Black Legion would take 10000 years to get anything done. No, he'd be back at the gates of Terra as soon as he replenished his army, subjected it to decimation just to get his point across and built more artillery.
As someone who doesn't like elves and does like chaos, Abaddon getting humiliated by Eldrad is one of the best things ever.

Though I'm a corpse-worshipping loyalist, I'll play devil's advocate here.
First, as others have pointed out, getting Chaos to unite and do something is easier said than done. Abaddon likely spends most of his time in the Eye getting groups to join him, and then having to go back later and force them to play ball. When the Great Rift opened, rather than capitalize on it and join Khorne's boys for a second Siege of Terra, Chaos split up and the different factions did their own thing, assuming that the Great Rift was the end game. Abby's 13th crusade is now coming apart at the seams, and he'll need to win the allegiance of the Chaos factions- yet again- to go for round 14 with the Imperium.
Second, comparing Abaddon to Horus is like comparing apples to oranges. Abaddon is an Astartes- a powerful one, but an Astartes. Horus was a Primarch. Horus also had access to the uncorrupted versions of the traitor legions and their Primarchs, but it is worth noting that as the Horus Heresy ground on, Horus gradually began losing control. By the final battle on Terra, Horus was holding them together by force of personality alone; Angron had to be literally chained in the brig because he was so out of control. By contrast, Abby is stuck with the out-of-control versions and has to bring and keep them all in line and away from each other's throats long enough to launch a crusade.
Third, Abaddon draws from all the Chaos Gods, including Tzeentch. For all we know, he's been holding back- the "armless failure" meme may have been started by Abaddon himself to lull the Imperium into complacency (e.g., "You know it's the turn of the millennium when Abaddon launches another Black Crusade.") An unsuspecting enemy is a vulnerable enemy.
Of course, this is all well and good until the Necrons wake up fully, slaughter the Imperium, enslave the Chaos Gods, and begin a three-way war with the Tyranids and the Orks for control of the galaxy.
His biggest victory, the most damaging thing he did, was still a fucking loss, that's just sad
