  • Let's get the pistons and rods into the block - In this video I share some insights of how to assemble the rings onto the piston, piston onto the conrods and installing them into the block / Crankshaft - The process is the same for S63 and N63 engines.

    Nice walk-through. Comment on piston orientation - you need to consider valvepockets also, so that intake pockets will match the intake valves…

      Thanks, the valve pockets in these pistons have exactly the same depth

    I didn’t really understood how to determine which way the piston is rotated.
    Also, shouldn’t be the conrod bolts torqued further to some angle after first torque to 75NM?

    • @dnl35projects
      @dnl35projects  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, the orientation will depend on the manufacturers specifications, my comments are just to frase the fact they have to go in a certain way.
      BMW bolts are torqued to yield so yes, you torque them to about 20Nm plus some rotation - we are using ARP bolts in this build so they are just torqued to spec ARP recommend.

    Hello sir, I have a question. When the cylinder liners are ringed, is it advisable to rectify them or does that damage the material of the cylinder liners?

    • @dnl35projects

      Hi, you can sleeve the whole block if theres damage to the cylinder walls

      I like using Goetze rings when sleeving the block however they are not available for the stock BMW ALUSIL block - Unfortunately we are using Chinese/aftermarket parts on this build (video) and there are no rings available other than the ones which come with the pistons

    Super valuable content. Could you mention any differences in assembly for the N63 version to be aware of during assembly? Thanks.

    • @dnl35projects
      @dnl35projects  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi, N63 and S63 are exactly the same from an assembly point of view - they vary a little bit over different year model and have different parts such as pistons, turbos, manifolds and camshafts however putting them together uses the same tools and procedures

    • @dnl35projects
      @dnl35projects  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, the ARP are torqued to 75Nm - OEM bolts are usually torqued to 20 or 30Nm + around 70 degrees of angle - It varies according to the engine/part number you are working on

      Hi, yes the BMW OEM rings on these engines are for Alusil block and the sleeves we put in are cast Iron, so we had to buy rings for a cast iron block (similar to what was produced back in the 1980s and 90s)
