- Plasti Dip Car DIY. How to Plasti Dip your car and 2017 Chevrolet Camaro reveal. I asked Emmet and his custom Camaro SS to return this week to show off his new red Plasti Dip spray paint job and explain the process involved, as well as how to maintain it. Learn from Scotty Kilmer, an auto mechanic for the last 50 years.

They actually have a product called RhinoShield that is used to paint upscale homes that is similar to PlastiDip!
I think the fact that you have to paint on a new coat every few weeks “to make it last and last” sort of diminishes the appeal of this stuff…

Plasti-dip or Wrapping is a good way to preserve the original paint. My nephew plasti-dipped the hood of his Challenger black, and wrapped the rest of car in red. He changed hoods and took the Plasti-dip off the original hood. I forgot how clean that hood was when he plasti-dipped it. I can understand some people not seeing the sense in doing it. But in reality, you're actually preserving the original paint, which helps re-sale value if it ever comes to that.

what if you have faded clear coat on your base paint and some clear coat peeling? will that show through the plasti dip?

Little known fact - you can get that same flat-paint effect by using some 300 grit sandpaper.
another fact - you cant change the color or bring it back to factory paint after doing that.

Nice now I can plasti dip all my tupperware can not wait for part two when you do the car. Anyways not living in sunny california how does plasti dip fare for us folks in colder areas will this spray protect from the harsh road salts and sand of winter driving?
No problem with salt or snow or dirt or sun or....this stuff is hardy IF applied correctly as the video shows.5 to 6 gallons on a mustang base and the 2 gallons color

I like the stormtrooper scheme better but I guess that's what's good about plasti dip. You can change the look of your car but it's not permanent.

The car looked absolutely badass until I saw the reflective powder in action. That powder just ruins the look, as it makes the surface appear dirty or dusty. The upside is that the powder appears to only show up under direct lighting and at a close distance. Other than that, I really like the color combination and finish, and I am definitely not a fan of plastidip. But you did a great job.
Can this thing withstand the usual drive, like anything but a nice photo shoot on the driveway? Talking about rocks flying, mud, road dirt, tree/bush branches etc. I love how it looks, but I drive my car in the normal world where a lot of stuff whack the paint on a daily basis.
Send an updated video in 2019 - how well will this finish hold up vs man hours of maintenance? Is it driven in heavy rain and snow with salt-covered roads?

Do you have to sand the surface to prep it or just make sure it's clean.
how many rattle cans would i need to dip a 240sx thats begun to peel its clear coat? Whats the cost of cans vs gallons and sprayer? Would a pancake compressor suffice to get the spraying done albeit slowly?
