Scotty Kilmer where can I purchase number 3?
Scotty Kilmer this should've been yesterday's giveaway item. Or maybe next Monday. ☺
Scotty Kilmer thank you Scotty. I just bought brand new headlights for my 2005 Buick Rendezvous. And put LED bulbs inside. This is great to keep the headlights looking new before they go bad.
Despite its name, Common Sense is quite rare. Try the School of Hard Knocks
Would I be able to meet you and have you check out my old 1999 Saturn SC2?

took your recommendation and applied it to my '99 GMC Suburban headlights that were yellower than Big Bird's back. AMAZING!! at least at 100% improvement. different words for the less mathy folks. My headlights shine twice as bright as they did yesterday after only about 10 minutes and $15 later. Thank you so much Scotty!!
🤣😂😂Yellower than big bird's back.
The kit now cost $21.24 not including tax.

Gotta love Scotty. I tell you what, he may sound like a salesman for Maguires products but he's never steered me wrong. Been following his advice on a lot of things and saved me $$$.
I had my headlights clear coated when I got my car painted. They started cracking and chipping bad .I’ll definitely try this method on my new car. Thanks Scotty
Big Nash did they sand the headlight first? If they didn't prep it then that's why. I just resurfaced my G35 head lights, but I've done it to other cars and I've never had my headlights chip after I sprayed clear.
Big Nash just apply clear bra film on them
CBR June they probably didn’t because the clear coat was pretty easy to remove
I’ve used toothpaste several times on plastic headlight housings. Generally the more gritty ones work best. Works great it was basically a cheaper version of those rubbing compounds but your car smells minty fresh too!
400 -> 600 -> 800 or 1000 sandpaper is fine.
Then laquer on. Works for many years before it needs a re-do.
Which ones are gritty?
@@RealHomeRecordingwhite colgate is very gritty
@@paulwojnar2291 thank you!
No cavities either…
I just did this method at the beginning of the year on a 2001 forester and a 1996 toyota camry. After a good buff cleaning with rubbing compound I applied this coating and it dries crystal clear. It looks a little hazy but after about 20 minutes you wont believe it. Follow the directions and your good to go. You rock Scotty.
Do you need to take the headlight out to spray them? What about overspray onto the painted body panels? Thanks.
Karl Tech I was thinking the same. I'm going to mask the surrounding panels with newspaper and masking tape as my headlights are a nightmare to remove.
5 years later how's it looking?
I wish he'd talk a little louder. I can barely hear him.

The bottom line here is that both Scotty and Chris try really hard to help viewers with their cars, to the best of their knowledge anyway. It seems like Chis saw success with his method then immediately posted his video, as if he was under the impression that it was permanent. Chris isn’t a bad guy for posting something he believed true at the time and Scotty isn’t a bad guy for making sure we know the truth. They’re both trying their best to help us.
I couldn't agree more. I love both Chris' and Scotty's videos, and both do their best in trying to help DIYers out. I agree that clearcoat just doesn't cut it. I'm very glad to see this product work so well!

He's right. I have to clean my headlights every year. I wish I had known about this product much sooner. Thanks Scotty!
Love scotty's enthusiasm and when he calls out car or parts companies for putting out "junk".
USE GLASS NOT PLASTIC!!!!
Way to many comments on here talking bad about chris. He may be wrong about this, I dont know, never tested his way of doing it. Chris and scotty are both great mechanics, there is no need to talk bad about either one of them, I can appreciate that scotty showed us a better way to do something.
Chris is method works too, just make sure to do it the right way. Scotty presented an preventive method as a best solution. Both methods require timely maintenance nonetheless. However, I wonder why my vehicles have never had faded headlights. I owned an BMW 118i 2006 and currently own an Toyota Auris Hybrid 2013. Both always had crystal clear headlights. I simply wash my car regularly, about once a month. If it gets dirty unexpectedly, I wash the dirty spot away by hand.
yeah, all 4 of my astros have glass too.
My Astro van has glass headlights, I don't get why modern cars use plastic.
slick_ej6
Plastic is easier to shape up, also cost-efficient for the manufacturer.
@@Samosayummyyay obviously because you took care of them...... which is another preventive method KEEP THEM CLEAN
Thanks for the tip. This worked well on my '99 Tahoe and a '99 Ford F150. The lenses were pretty yellowed and came out almost completely clear. deuce nava You Betcha'!
I just tried the Meguire's 2 step with the coating spray and it gave me the best results I have ever seen. It seemed a bit cloudy when the lens was smooth so I was a little worried but after spraying on the coating they became essentially crystal clear. I can't believe how good they look. Now I will have to see how long it lasts but this Meguire's is all I'm gonna use from now on. I tried toothpaste and a couple of the cheaper kits but this is worth the extra $10.
How has it held up? Did you reapply a year later, and if so how was that process?
How is it holding up????
Holding up well?...still have the vehicle.
Good for about 6 months or a winter
Funny how these ppl post and never follow up about their amazing results that probably didn't last.

Can you please tell me the name of that stuff? Thanks
I just took my golf club to the headlight housing when it started it to fog up, haven’t had hazing issues in years!

I’m glad I found this video. I used these products on a 16 year old car and they look great. About 2 minutes total to clean both headlights. Thanks Scotty, love your channel
what about year later?
Yea how long did it last??
@St0rm3334* is it still lasting you? I've heard that just using that polishing repair doesn't fully remove the outer layer and will result in you having to go back and redo it every few months.
@@greeny5155 I used it yesterday and it did make a difference! However one of my headlights is older than the other due to an accident, that one needs to be sanded or something because it has a thick layer of oxidation that didn’t come off or shine up. I’ve read that if you wet sand with high grits then due the polish and finish with clear coat it should last
I do love Chris's videos but the headlight restoration did make my headlights yellow again. Yesterday I used the Meguiars product on my taillights and came out great
Lol you know he's not trying to laugh at Chris on camera 😂
If they are really yellowed I sand with an abundance of water with 600 paper, then finish with 1000 or 1200 then use meguires compound polish. You can go to even finer polishes
did you have to restore again and then use meguiars or did you put it on top of the yellow lights?
dorkultra headlights yellowed after almost a year. I recently restored my Taillights and have better results. Imma change my headlights to aftermarket anyways
richie p you will need to seal it with either UV protection clear coat or some UV blocking sealer or they will yellow and dry out again
I'm retired but was in the collision repair/refinishing field for almost 50 years, teaching it at a public technical school before retirement. I bought a 1998 Nissan Frontier new. In 2008 the headlights had yellowed and dulled. Most folks that sanded and clearcoated them missed one small, but critical step. I sanded and clearcoated them, sold the truck in 2019 with 397,000 miles on it. It still ran fine, everything worked, and the headlights still looked great. First: I used a high quality, name brand eurethane clear. I sprayed some purple power on them initially, which instantly dissolves the yellow dead plastic, it literally runs off the headlight immediately. Then I thoroughly rinsed it off, doing one headlight at a time. You want to rinse immediately because the purple power can dull surrounding trim and painted areas if left on too long. It saves alot of sanding as the yellow is gummy and a pain to aand off. I wet sanded them with 800 grit. Today's eurethane clears, especially name brand, have very powerful uv screeners. But, if it peels, what good is it? After the headlights dried, I taped them up for the clearcoat. The critical step: before clear, I applied one wet coat of plastic parts adhesion promoter. Its clear, and can be purchased at parts stores etc., I've seen it at certain Walmart's. After a 20 minute dry time I applied 2 coats of clear, with recommended dry time between. Applying plastic parts adhesive promoter is a must, if not, the clear will inevitably delaminate over time.
Going to try your method out, thanks for passing it along.
That's great if you got 11 years out of one restoration. Thanks for this, I'll try it out as well.
We did the the normal steps then used clearcoat UV 2K spray on my van with no plastic parts adhesion spray and it was done about 5 years ago, no cracks, no peeling, no yellowing. Maybe I got lucky. I did get the spray can from an auto paint supply store though.

Don't forget about overspray when applying these to your headlights. Protect the metal surrounding the headlight by taping and covering around it, otherwise the product will get all over the body of your car.
Not important. Cars body wil be also more protected afterwards

Truth Is everyone has their own methods. Also other TH-camrs have shown the same way as ChrisFix for a reason. It can work If you do It properly and don't buy cheap clear coat. I used 2k that Is used for the clear on the paint of cars and It looks just fine. If you get bad results with a cheap $5 can of clear coat from Walmart blame yourself for going the cheap route. And Scotty's method shown In this video also works great. Either way I'd still recommend using Meguiar's on your headlights like Scotty said, It's the same as car paint, If you don't try to maintain It, It will fade. Common sense people. Stop arguing.
No it never work

I'm really happy to see you endorse a product that I use! I bought a nice used car except the headlights were all cloudy & yellow. I got lazy and just replaced the headlights instead of trying to clean them, but I've been using that Maguire's on my new headlights for three years now and they still look brand-new!

I watched this video so many times then finally did it! Worked on my 2014 Corolla! Right headlight was 95% restored and left one was 99%. I did use a non scratch pad and loved the results. Saved me 120 bucks! That's what I was quoted to restore. Now it did not work on my 2007 Ram but those are really bad and scratched. I will use a buffer and a drill on those next...Thank you!
Chris' video really made me feel like his fix was permanent...sadly literally a year later..worse than before. It was a good attempt, but glad I wasn't the only one who experienced it.
I was planning to use that clear coat technique for the longest time. I procrastinated for some 2 years. Lucky I never went through with it! So you can sand out the old cracked clear coat, buff with the 3M lens restoration kit and re-apply this Meguiar's Headlight Coating right?
Rotormatic Yes. There are other kits that gradually work their way up in wet sandpaper grits and end with a polish for the final prep stage before spraying. Mother's has a headlight kit that works, too.
I followed the directions verbatim throughout his entire video, not here to bash Chris at all (I appreciate all the work that goes into his videos), I'm just saying, this time around it didn't work for me. I live in Canada, not sure if weather had a roll to play in the chipping because I doubt the clear-coat application was applied too thickly...I bought a new set of headlights anyway, decided to try Scotty's method, hopefully his turns out to be right!
Omg I'm in the exact same boat;; this looks like so much less work
The previous owner of my car put Clearcoat on my headlights, and now they are cracked and hazy as hell. Took it to a touch-up specialist to sand and polish it - and he could not completely remove the cracked clearcoat for fear it would damage the headlight. So not only does clearcoat not last, in some cases it can cause permanent damage.

Thanks for all your videos Scotty. I just bought some new aftermarket headlight assemblies for my Mustang, and I'll spray them with Meguiars before installing them. I feel that I can always trust your car advice ..
ok this is different than what Chrisfix did. He fixed damaged headlights. your method is preventitive. also, most people attempting what he did don't know what they're doing.
sand, clear coat, and wax. the wax is what protects the clearcoat from the sun and scratching. even if someone applies the clearcoat correctly, odds are they're too lazy to wax it. his idea works in theory but most people half ass it and say it sucks.
I like this video though bc the comments are funny
I'm with you. I did my headlights 3 years ago with 2k clear coat. They looked new then and still do now. I 1500 sanded the clearcoat about a week after it dried, buffed them out and wax twice a year. Completely clear, Smooth as glass
This man is a world treasure! His knowledge of cars is second to none!
...and your knowledge is none.
Thank you for you channel!! I'm a single mom with no man around to help with vehicle issues, and you've become my new go too guy!! Btw, you look like John Lennon!! JS 💁
Get a new man then
@@maniya6830 she said she has "no man" so..maybe she doesn't want one..
@@cherbear1996 Or maybe she can't get one.
Maybe if you were a better wife you wouldn't be single. I have NEVER seen a man say "I am a single dad with no woman around to help with cooking/ cleaning issues." I thought women were all-powerful what happened to the strong independent woman? I know, it is a myth.
He is John Lennon
I purchased these two products after seeing this video and I did my car and the wife's and they both look fantastic.. thanks again for another wonderful video Scotty..
Damn Scotty why you starting beef😤😤😩
He's just making friendly fun, relax LOL
Justin Smith frrrrrr

Scotty is amazing; he's the Don Cherry of TH-cam car repair.
I don't think he's ever played hockey, but if he did he'd know the game like Grapes does.
This guy has such a funny voice and when he talks and waves with his hands makes it really funny to watch him. His looks like he is joking around all the time and you just must love this guy. Plus his advices have sense. :)
You're without peer Scotty. Your knowledge and honesty Makes for a perfect combination. Many thanx.
I tried Chris's method as well. And after a year they look ugly, yellow, and peeling. :(
When i watched his video i thought "isn't clear coat basically plastic? That'll yellow too"
They do sell a different formulation of clear coat that doesn't yellow over time too though. I know the brand Watco has it because I've used their clear lacquer for wood finishing.
Did you use a UV resistant clear coat?
Best clear coat came in quart cans, not in spray paint.
ruhoer eoijre yep quarts and gallons lol
Legend has it that if you tie Scotty's hands behind his back; he won't be able to speak!
😁😂🤣😅
😂😂
Yeah...and MAYBE he can't grab the envelopes of ca$h from "DEAR OL" TOYOTA!
😂😂no he can speak then, but we wouldnt know what the hell he is saying

I’d honestly watch this just for your personality bro 😂🤞🏾
Just recently had this channel drop in my feed. Great channel. Need all the help we can get to keep our cars going. Thank you!!!
Been using Meguiar's for years, Scotty is correct. If the rest of you are so smart MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEO!!!!
Do you have to re-apply the coating every time it rains or only once a year?
Thanks.
🤗 Scotty Rocks. And sooo agree with you.
Does it matter if you get a little bit on the car as well? Or do you use painters tape to protect the car
He contradicts his self .
Thing is dude I’ve polished headlights and they’ve lasted 5 years or so, still crystal clear. sooo...

Yeah, ole Scotty is one animated character. BUT, he knows WTF he's talking about! You can trust Scotty. Not only that, he has 6 million subscribers...
He’s that guy thats really interesting for 2 minutes then he keeps talking. Then you just want to get away from him. Hes very experienced and his info is usually good but you want to punch him in the throat because his voice.
@@bludworm1How much does he pay you? All restoration kits are garbage. The only way to restore headlights, with lasting results, requires total clear coat removal and reapplying the clear coat. And not with a rattle can.
I like to keep the cars I drive for a long time, for years I've been trying to get the headlights clear....everything people suggested didn't work very well. Scotty to the rescue!. Meguiar's owes this guy! Thanks Scotty Kilmer, you are indeed "The Man"!
Anytime I’m searching for car repairs even the smallest thing, this guy appears! So I’m going to finally subscribe.

I've tried several different ways to protect my lights. Living in upstate NY, and driving through winter, there isn't much you can do to save the lenses from road salt, sand, gravel, etc. The best solution I've found, was Lamin-X film. I have a pair of Hella 500FF fog lights on my push bar. After getting pelted with everything winter can throw at it, even the film wipes off clean, and looks great, not to mention the lenses they are protecting. If you have to drive in bad weather, or off road, I can't say enough about how well this film works.
Its a pleasure to see Richard Dawkins maintains his lovely cars
Nice video. I wax and polish my cars all the time and I think this also helps. My cars always look so shiny years and years after purchase. Usually when I see faded headlights i just think its a reflection on how the owner cares for their car lol. Scotty Kilmer the best Car guy on youtube!
Sun makes them yellow.. who keeps car in garage has no worries
Clear bra. I've had mine on my headlights for 11 years now. Just like new still

Looking at the MSDS for that product proves it is mostly solvents and modifyed tallow (animal fat). Just use standard caranuba wax and get the same results for a fracton the cost. It's a clearcoated surface just like your car, treat it as such and give it a good wax 2-4 times a year.
s13 gouf underrated comment got to love MSDS's

Bought the Meguiars headlight coating restoration kit yesterday after watching this video. Headlights look BRAND NEW. Thanks for the informative video!
Anthony L hey man did you conservatively spray it on or liberally
It didn't take much cleaning solution at all. I used about two quarter size amounts of cleaner on each headlight. Just make sure and apply it all over the surface area, rinse and repeat. Best of luck!
@ZR The spray bottle wasn't turned backwards so it was definitely liberally
i use that kit on lots of different applications incl. motorcycle windscreens & taillights
Just used Scottys link in Amazon and bought a can. Replaced headlights last year and added Led bulbs.👍
Scotty, thank you very much. I have tried about 4 other brands and nothing worked but the Meguiars did a great job. Also thank you for all of your other videos, I have learned a lot from you.
Scotty, thank you for all of the good information, we need automotive experts out here that always tell the truth. Please don't ever disappear on us. God bless you for eternity!
Thank you for this tutorial. I replaced mine today on my Buick Enclave per instructions. It looks great and I saved a lot of money purchasing the part from EBay and doing it myself. 👍🏾

How to replace the blinker fluid!

and spray on some soupy wadder
Finally I can clean the massive cloudiness and yellowing on my plastic headlights.
Thanks for the Tips, lol
Scotty old friend. Going after others stating their method of doing something wrong publically is not a way to gain friends. In my opinion the title of your video might have been better if it had been " This is My Way to Restore Headlights Permanently. My way is better than some."
Your long time sub and friend..Charlie.
Well said HoschtonBoy. Perhaps, just perhaps, Scotty (I love him) is receiving $$$ from McGuires for the promo and was 'required' to use Chris's name in the title to draw viewers - not that he needs them. I say watch them both and make an informed decision.
HoschtonBoy, DM, perhaps the title should have been " Chris is wrong this is the right way to restore headlights don't worry yourself with how I make my money your opinion doesn't matter, but thanks anyway now go get you some McGuire's and sit down shut up and follow me." I think that somes it up huh? Just because it's so easy to criticize him for how he is earning money doesn't mean you need too. You don't see anyone going to your job and smacking the mop out of your hand because you missed a spot.
DM if you bothered to read the notes ahead of the video, you'll see where Scotty says that McGuires is not a sponsor and he's receiving no money for endorsing their products. Facts and truth matter.... try it.
HoschtonBoy do you smell that? It's pepper pickin time
Roma12 - thank you. I DID NOT read the notes. I have great respect for Scotty. He has saved me big bucks on repairs. Be well, and correction is noted. (from NY state)

Mr RC Scotty is a whole lot more entertaining than all those TH-cam guys who start every sentence with, “OK, so ....” and don’t plan in advance what they are going to say and take 5 times as long to say it as they need to. Then introduce you to their dog. Scotty plans and is to the point.
