The amount of quick cuts in this movie make taken 3 look like one giant tracking shot

This movie hurt me on a physical level. Not just as an RE Fan, but that editing was actually atrocious.
My biggest problem with the series is the continuation after the second one. You have a good open ending at the end of the second one. Then there is the timeskip and you think wtf happend? And that happens several times. Same with the charcters, they come and disapear, with no explenations.

Welcome to raccoon city does have flaws. It's not a really good representation of Resident Evil. I aint gonna admit that it's not that really good of a film. I can admit that but you have to amend at least. It's better than the Alice show go offense when I watched welcome to raccoon city I was Surprised that they didn't bring In alice and just make it another alice show
This film, with no exaggeration, has probably the worst editing I've ever seen in a major motion picture. It's honestly embarrassing that Paul Anderson despite not being the best director would even allow this movie to be shown in such a poor state of quality. Truly a horrendous film from top to bottom.

Honestly this franchise has its fans and I don't have any problems with people liking this franchise. (I myself like only the first two entries in the series.) However, I think even most of the fans of this franchise agree this is easily the weakest entry and in my opinion it's because of that editing and the red-cons that hurt it. The writing in this franchise comes off as really bad fanfiction. I agree totally with cody.
yep as a fan of the games these movies suck I like the first 2, afterlife is a guilty pleasure, and that's it well I do like 2 scenes from 3 and those 2 scenes only but besides that nothing else is good at all

Megan Charpentier had outgrown the role of the Red Queen, which she previously played in Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), and was recast with Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson's real life daughter Ever Anderson in her feature film debut.
Filming was originally scheduled to start in Fall 2013 for a September 12, 2014 release date. Filming was delayed when Milla Jovovich became pregnant with her second child.
Bingbing Li was due to reprise her role as Ada Wong but had to leave production before shooting started because she had committed to another movie in China.
The outfit that Claire Redfield, Ali Larter's character, wears is the same outfit that was worn by Claire Redfield in the game Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015).
Milla Jovovich is the only actor to appear in every single film of the series.
Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Iain Glen, and Shawn Roberts are the only actors to reprise their roles from previous installments.
The film came out on January 27, 2017, three days after the release of the new installment of the video game series, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (2017).
Many actors from previous movies were not invited to return for this movie, including: Sienna Guillory, Bingbing Li, Aryana Engineer, Spencer Locke, Michelle Rodriguez, Wentworth Miller, and Johann Urb.

When Alice is driving to Racoon City, there's a brief shot of a Rayden bobble head from Mortal Kombat on the dashboard. Mortal Kombat is director Paul Anderson's first video game film adaptation.

The subplot with Claire's boyfriend Doc being revealed to be a spy working for Umbrella after he betrays Alice is based on a similar subplot found in the game Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2015).
During filming in South Africa, an improperly secured Humvee slid off of a rotating platform, crushing crew member Ricardo Cornelius against a wall. He was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support, but he died a few hours later. It was the film's second on-set accident, and the only fatal one. The film is dedicated to his memory.
Resident Evil the final chapter has the award of being the only movie to give me a headache while watching it.
I like to ignore 5 and 6 and just pretend that Umbrella blew up everyone on that ship at the end of 4. Morbid ending.

I love how you don’t even mention how Wesker dies in this film, which is by a falling door. So, after being shot to death, surviving a plane crash, and even an ATOM BOMB EXPLOSION, all it takes to kill Wesker is a falling door. It must have been so mind numbingly stupid you didn’t want to mention it.
Great review, I love how insulted you were. 😂 This is the only one I haven't seen, probably never will. I heard just how awful it is, I saw a couple of clips and saw how headache inducing the editing and lighting were. Also the whole story about what happened to the stuntpeople made it feel kind of icky. I'm somewhat excited for the new one, but cautious. Thanks Cody!

Iain Glen is famous for Game of Thrones and Resident Evil but I know him best when he was in the first Tomb Raider movie with Angelina Jolie and playing Bruce Wayne in Titans which I think he does a pretty good job with what he’s given in both
Honestly my main gripe with Milla as an actress is literally how almost, if not, every movie she’s in, she’s immediately stealing the spotlight from all the other characters, like you said she does in this franchise. Most recent example was the Monster Hunter movie, hyped when I first heard about it but then she was announced in the movie as a random military soldier from Earth, and I immediately went “Oh so she’s gonna be more capable of taking down these Kaiju sized monsters than the ACTUAL Monster Hunters”. Now every time she’s in a video game adaptation of a movie, 9 times out of 10 she’s going to play the main character and be overdone as hell as a badass 😂
12:32 And the whole "Original Alice is Alicia Marcus, James Marcus's daughter" is worse than in the games in 0 where Marcus's queen leech enters Marcus's body after the Umbrella soldiers killed him, somehow gains his memories and a copy of his personality, can shapeshift into both old Marcus and young Marcus who looks like he's a Final Fantasy character, the leech thinks it is him and wants revenge by destroying Umbrella. That's one intelligent T-Virus infected leech there.
As a video editor myself, this is some of the worst action cutting scenarios I have ever seen. Why would anyone watch this type of hell? Did the people behind the scenes actually say it was good?

I think the best thing to come from the RE movies was the Marilyn Manson theme song, Pretty epic! and it would be cool if it's in the reboot ( doubtful.) I enjoyed the 1st movie for taking liberties and the 2nd for fan service but literally that's it...
I love your honesty in your reviews, & your perspective. I’ve only seen this once & was expecting something different then what they delivered. Some of the ideas for there fight scenes were interesting but the plot was short changed. Great review
Need I remind you, in RE5 it took a volcano and two rockets to kill Wesker. In this movie, Wesker is killed by a door. It makes Padme's death in Star Wars Episode III look realistic by comparison.

I honestly wonder if Paul W S Anderson originally wrote a much grander script but he was told no your not getting a budget to do a film like that and he had to come up with an alternate story and he decided to do an alternate Universe story, just incase he can ever do his true final film!
I find Paul W.S Anderson a very interesting director. His Resident Evil franchise is abysmal and awful (at least after the first two), yet it seemed that he was a rather competent one during the 90's. I like his Mortal Kombat movie, I love Event Horizon, and from what I can remember Soldier was good but I haven't seen it in a while.
Everything post-2000 that he's made just isn't any good and it's really strange. I'd argue that his last "decent" movie was Alien Vs Predator simply because you can tell he is at least trying with that one.

So, my history with the games, love the first 3, never got beyond those, just became a parent and was never a huge gamer.
As for the movies, liked the first 2, guilty pleasures, extinction was kind of a "meh", and 4 and 5? I don't even remember them. Kind of became like the later Saw movies, the retconing and the repetitiveness just sort of bored me.
So, I never watched Final Chapter. I'm getting the impression just listening to this review was more entertaining than watching the movie, and I can skip the headache the editing would've given me, so thank you for your sufferimg, Cody!
Another awful scene was film Wesker dying from being crushed by a door when it took being injected with an overdose of the stuff he used to keep the altered Progenitor Virus in him stable, plenty of gunshots, falling into a volcano and being shot with 2 rockets to kill game Wesker.
Have to rewatch this. Remember being disappointed although I love the rest of the series except for Extinction. Btw love the thumbnail.

Maybe I need to rewatch this movie because I actually remember liking it enough. I've only watched it twice (once in theaters and once after I bought the DVD) but I seem to be on a bit of an island in thinking that this isn't the worst in the series. I think, if anything, my expectations had been lowered so much at this point that I was willing to settle for just being entertained. I remember thinking that the ending was decent enough and liked how it went back to the hive where it all began. Much like Afterlife, I recall an element of horror tone mixed in with the gratuitous action and I liked that. My biggest gripe with this movie, as I recall,, is that it kind of bitched out on the ending. It was heading in the right direction with Alice's sacrifice almost taking on a biblical comparison, but they couldn't commit to the finality of that conclusion and decided to go a direction that would leave the door open for yet another sequel, should they decide to do it. I thought that was pretty lame. Other than that, I really don't recall much from this movie. Maybe my thoughts will change with a rewatch.
This was the movie where a bad stunt cost a stunt woman her arm and part of her brain.
I only like bits and pieces of this film such as Dr. Isaacs returning and a few of the fighting sequences. For some reason, I also like the scene when Isaacs got his hand cut off and has this sound effect thing going on while it zooms in on his face. I bet someone could edit this movie by taking the quick cuts out and make this a slightly better movie. The storyline of the film franchise is still confusing because there is like an old version of Alice. It's been awhile since I have seen this film too. Anyways, if done correctly, I still believe that Resident Evil 7 Biohazard would make a great horror genre film. I want to see the Baker family on the big screen. For Marguerite, they would have to do some CGI because no one has arms like that and I hope it's good or even great CGI. But use a real face on her with makeup on. That would be so creepy to see a scene of her peeking out from the ceiling with a real face coming out, just waiting for Ethan to come by from below.
I remember watching all these movies this year and I got enjoyment out of all of them except this one. I was even planning on ranking all of them but now there's a new one coming out.

It probably will be honestly. It doesn't have much of a hurdle to jump and the only resident films that might give it any sort of competition as far as quality is concerned is the first two films but I highly doubt it'll be worse than anything past apocalypse and could easily be the best of all the Resident Evil movies.

@@austincaldwell4258 yeah it may turn out pretty good. As you stated I wouldn't expect anything big from it but it having a lower budget might actually make it more like the games because it won't be as action-heavy as the previous films which will help them focus on the horror aspects more.

Besides the first one and some of 2 all of the Alice movies were just bad action flicks except Afterlife that is a guilty pleasure for me. I also think they might do a better job with the characters.I know they don't really look the part that's one thing the others did ok at with some of them is how they look but they didn't do a good job using them so I hope they use them better in this. Really the only thing I'm worried about is the fact they are trying to fit 2 games in 1 movie that's only an hour and 40 mins long.
The first 3 were watchable but then they went downhill after 3 they got worst and worst.

I watched this last week for the first time in preparation for the new one and if you held a gun to my head, I wouldn’t be able to tell you anything that happened in this movie.
The thing is we all know these movies aren't masterpieces, but this is the highest scoring on rotten tomatoes out of the original 6 films. Yet its probably the worst.
Oh god the editing in this movie. It's sad that a crewmember got crushed to death for this garbage to be made.

Love the shirt. Best game in the series. The movie series gets a little crazy but for me most of the films are a guilty pleasure. Its just fun in many places. Looking forward to seeing the reboot.
The only thing that I like about this one was the idea of going back to what is left of Raccoon City to face the actual big bad of the entire series. They've barely even mentioned Raccoon City, and definitely haven't gone back there in any capacity in the video game series.

A friend went to an early screening the other day & he did not like it. But he disliked quite a few movies I loved, so that doesn’t have me worried a lot… just a lil bit!
Or Alice selling the T-Virus cure like Eddie Kingston selling the sparklers of what was supposed to be an exploding ring, and much like how that AEW event went out like a popcorn fart, Paul W S Anderson's Resident Evil also went out like a popcorn fart. So they both have that in common anyways.
Alice is more like the Charlotte Flair of the films. People hate her but she's forced on them anyway.

One thing U forgot to mention was Wesker's role in this one. In the previous films he was the top dog, the main villain, nearly indestructible, could take a liking and keep on ticking. Here he's been reduced to a second fiddle under Dr. Issacs. Now Dr. Issacs is the big baddy, main villain and Wesker is basically his second-in-command, this bitch. Where da fuck did this double standard shit come from? And for being indestructible, having his foot crushed by a slamming door is all it takes to do Wesker in... WTF? We've seen him survive being shot multiple times, being nearly blown up, and now its simply a door coming down on his foot that does him, what a fucking waste.

What if told you that Resident Evil has the worst plot holes of film franchise history?
I paid like $1.49 for this movie it was still too much. RE Afterlife was awful but damn. I hope Resident Evil Welcome To Raccoon City puts it back on the right track. The first two were decent, the 3rd was the beginning of the end and it sure ended on a pile of absolute shit.
Just watched the new one. I liked it. But some things could’ve been better. Wasn’t a fan of all the cgi, but the characters were close. But no cigar except for Chris. They did my boy Leon DIRTY! Liked Williams casting, and why put Hunk in for a split second and never bring him out. Omg the cgi though 😭
That entire plot point of there being 48 hours left until the last of humanity could've been solved by instead saying something like. Umbrella has found the last human strongholds and in 48 hours they'll launch bombs at them or something like that.
Note: I came up with that in like 2 minutes of thought.
Another semi minor thing I don't like is that Isaac's first name in this film is Alexander yet in the previous films it was Samuel. And the Isaac's in this film goes on about how all the clones think they're the true Isaac's. Well if that's true then wouldn't the first name being different be a dead give away that the clones are well clones?
This series became the sci-fi version of the paranormal activity movies, off the rails & making no sense.
Really looking forward to seeing the new, & hopefully better, resident evil movie. Trailer looks very promising.

If I'm writing an ending for this franchise, Imma cut the heroes(from the games and ocs from movies) in half. One half will organize a fortress to defend humanity's last stand against the hordes of undead we saw from the last movie. The other half will go on a suicide mission to retrieve the cure.

I can most likely go through each beat of the other five films with pretty good accuracy but I haven’t got a single fucking clue about this one. I don’t know if I automatically wiped it from my mind to save myself the pain after I saw it but I remember nothing about this dumpster fire.
In the realm of “final chapters”, this is sadly more along the lines of Saw instead of Friday the 13th.
Yea I felt pretty much the same way about this. I do think the first RE movie is quite good - 2 to 4 are not good but still enjoyable for reasons. Retribution did piss me off. And this one... just takes the cake. I will never forget how Albert Wesker got killed by a freaking grenade because he and the writers forgot that he had crazy speed and regeneration powers. And... well you already mentioned all the other flaws about this already. I think there is another videogame adaptation that pissed me off even more when I was watching it in the cinema and that was "Silent Hill Revelation 3D". But that's just because I love the first movie and the games so much and the second movie was such a dumb splatter flick. But in hindsight... I'm gonna say that there is more to enjoy about Revelation than about RE The Final Chapter. At least that has decent editing, some cool monster effects and a good soundtrack. The Final Chapter really is one of those movies that I would never want to see again because it's just exhausting and frustrating to watch.
The second one is to me the best out of the whole franchise in literally could have the second one in the whole franchise I would happy with just having that movie in my collection

Honestly, as a fan of the games, I had hopes during the first two films, but my interest was about gone after Extinction. I only watched this one cause I wanted to see how it was gonna all end. I expected disappointment, and that's exactly what I got!! Maybe one day I'll try to watch it again for the sake of doing it, but not any time soon.
