Resident Evil The Final Chapter is definitive proof that Paul WS Anderson believes the fans are too dumb to recognize the overbearing continuity errors and plots holes in the films.
Mostly agree with your list, the only one I change would be Apocalypse. Didn’t love that one, probably be on the bottom of my list. But your first three are totally solid.

@Lorenzo Smit - A lot of people put it over all the Paul WS Anderson films because of how “accurate” it was to the games (even though Leon is nothing like how he is in the games, not just because of the raceswap, but because he’s a bumbling idiot and weakling). Personally, as inaccurate to the games as Anderson’s movies were, and as insulting as a lot of those inaccuracies were (for f**k’s sake, Wesker, who you had to blow up in a volcano to kill in the games, dies getting smashed by a door), most of them were at least “turn-your-brain-off” entertaining while Raccoon City was boring as f**k.

6:22 One thing about Afterlife Wesker I hated was him seemingly being infected by Las Plagas and having to periodically eat people to keep himself stable. When in the games he's infected with an altered version of Progenitor and needs regular injections to keep the virus stable.
Best to worst- 1. Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 2- Apocalypse 3. Resident Evil- Extinction (I like how this one adds daylight) 4. Resident Evil Retribution (The soundtrack is good on this one) 5. Resident Evil- The Final Chapter (this one is higher than After Life is because Dr. J. Isaacs returns.) 6. Resident Evil- After Life (Clones of Alice everywhere and it looks confusing) Both 5 & 6 and 1 & 2 can flip flop. 7:10, What is this, The Matrix? Resident Evil Retribution Just watched all these for the first time this week and am commenting just after finishing the final chapter. I'm honestly surprised to see most people rank it low. I really enjoyed it. I'd rate the series 5.7/10.
I love the first 4 Anderson movies. I watched them a lot growing up and have a tonne of nostalgia for them. I rewatched afterlife the other night with my cousin who also loved them as a kid and we had alot of fun because there’s alot of stupid moments and fun moments. They are not good movies but I still hold them dear
I love the live action RE films soooooo much and thanks to them I became a die-hard RE video game fan so for that I am grateful for them. Yeah, they can be stupid or silly but I still enjoy them as a whole. Love the actors/actresses, OST, and aesthetics. TFC actually made me tear up a little at the end (and not because of the crazy editing) because I'll truly miss this film series with Milla and people will laugh at me but idgaf 🤣 TFC could have been better but it is what it is. 🥲 I really wish Sienna and Ali would get to reprise their roles for a RE tv series someday (different from the Netflix one) 🤞🙏 I'm so looking forward to WTRC despite all the hate it got so yeah...🤭 🤷♂️
I rather prefer a complete original story in Resident Evil universe with a whole new characters. Movie in RE games are there just watch that. No need to whine that is not 100% like the game because that's not how you make good movies
If they could have gotten the same budget that the Anderson films got with welcome to racoon city, it would have been amazing, there was actually some good zombie shootout scenes. Welcome to racoon cities budget was only 5 million, vs the Anderson films that were 50 million plus. Every reviewer says the same thing that I agree with it as well, that they shouldn't of cramed the mansion with the city in one movie. Hopefully they could rectify this with a directors cut, plus a full racoon city version like the re3 nemesis game, but with a good budget, and longer run time.

1 and apocalypse are my favorite movies, hopefully the new one is up there but from what I’ve seen and heard it doesn’t seem like it. Resident evil and twisted metal are my favorite franchises in gaming, I own every game and movie other then gaiden.
That mid credit scene in the new one was hilarious, giving Wesker the glasses and asking Ada to say her name was so funny, the whole theater was chanting say the name and burst out when she did. Honestly the new one was a comedy, I laughed more then anything.
That is what the original Resident Evil was, a campy horror game with its moments of being funny with its bad dialogue and acting. I think it was clear that’s what they wanted to do with WtRC.
I appreciate your optimism and your perspective. But for me, who grew up with the original RE games, the entire movie franchise is utter garbage that I could never enjoy. RE is survival horror yet they went with just action Hollywood garbage.
yeh man, I watched the Racoon City one earlier and enjoyed it the most I think. It had a decent atmosphere to it and didn't have the horrible shaky cam but they put to much in a short amount of time that it glossed over too much. William Birkin turning into Tyrant, the licker and police chief getting killed off, Weskers betrayal story being the biggest undershorts, I think. But, just for the atmosphere and the homages to the games I was into it the most.
Apocalypse is my favorite simply cause Jill Valentine and I can watch that movie all damn day long lol however Welcome to Raccoon City was the most true to the story of how it all starts. You sir pretty much nailed every aspect of this review.
I know you said you weren't a big animation fan, Cody, but I would still highly recommend the CG films, Degeneration, Damnation and Vendetta. If you are a Resident Evil fan, you will really enjoy those; they are easily superior to any of the live-action movies in my opinion. Leon Kennedy in particular is a total badass in those outings.
My ranking: Resident Evil Extinction (GO OUT AND BUY IT Resident Evil (STREAM IT) Resident Evil: Apocalypse (STREAM IT) Resident Evil: Afterlife (SEE IT ON NETFLIX) Resident Evil: Retribution (SKIP IT) Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (FUCK THIS MOVIE) I have not seen Welcome To Racoon City
Just watched Welcome To Raccoon City and I quite liked it. It wasn't perfect (I didn't care for the depiction of Leon or Wesker and some of the CGI looked pretty fake by today's standards) but all in all, I think it's the best Resident Evil movie we've got to date. My ranking would be as follows: 7) RE: Extinction 6) RE: Retribution 5) RE: Apocalypse 4) RE: The Final Chapter 3) RE: Afterlife 2) Resident Evil 1) Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City
If I want to watch a movie completely tie to the games I watch it in games. If I want good quality Resident Evil, I watch it based on separate story built for the movie from ground up
Welcome To Raccoon City is my favorite out of the resident evil films, even though I didn't like a lot of the writing its the most faithful to the games.
To be honest I really enjoyed welcome to raccoon city because it's better than the other resident evil movies directed by Paul WS Anderson and I'm not saying that welcome to raccoon city is good but it's better than the movies because they follow the 1st two games
There isn't a Sherry Birkin in the Resident Evil Movie Franchise, you are probably referring to "K-Mart" as the teenage girl when discussing extinction.
👀.... 🤔😁👏👌, your totally right!. I think the same, this time make a GREAT MOVIE. I see this movie 2 times!. And im buy when release in Bluray!. and added to my mega collection of RESIDENT EVIL!!.
As a die-hard RE fan, here is my list: 1. Apocalypse 2. Welcome to Raccoon City 3. Afterlife 4. Resident Evil 5. Extinction 6. The Final Chapter 7. Retribution
@@solomonkane5240 lol, yeah that movie sucked. But as a Resident Evil movie, WTRC was way more game accurate than the Milla Jovovich ones. I just happen to like Apocalypse the best out of all them, even though that movie sucked too.
Im thinking that James wan would be the absolute PERFECT director for a Resident evil adaptation. He can do action and horror like hes already proven. Hollywood, please! Its so obvious
Without seeing the newest movie, I agree with your rankings. As a huge fan of the series and the games, the new movie looks exciting to me. I hope they eventually make a true to story RE4 movie. Gotta see the Big Cheese and hear about the ballistics.
Ive never seen the franchise, but i did see welcome to raccoon city and that was probably the worst movie ive ever seen. I couldnt even imagine what the franchise movies are like seeing how this guy ranked them worse than welcome to raccoon city. What they did to leon in raccoon city was nothing but insulting.
The thing with the Milla Jovovich RE movies is that aside from Apocalypse, none of them attempt to be a direct adaptation of the video games. Yes certain characters, monsters and elements are borrowed, but aside from that they do their own thing. WtRC was advertised as a faithful adaptation of RE 1+2, which not only failed to do so by ruining the stories, but they changed character origins, motivations, and completely flubbed the casting. Even if I were to look past race-swapping two of the most iconic characters in the entire franchise, there's still Wesker looking like a typical dude-bro, and Claire looks at least 5 years older than everyone else. Additionally, the Milla RE movies can be viewed without any prior knowledge of RE lore besides maybe knowing who some of the prominent characters are. WtRC expects people to know the story already, but then also completely changes it past the point of recognition. The Final Chapter is definitely not a good film by any stretch of the imagination, but I would watch it over the disgrace that is WtRC any day. What they did to Leon's character in that movie is unforgivable.
@@TwoTailedCaperer i totally agree on everything you said about wtrc and especially Leon. I honestly dont think he should ever be allowed to work on an RE title again after what he did to leon. Making him as a comedy relief wasnt just a mistake, it was a legit insult to all the hardcore fans of the games like yourself and I. I watched 2 seconds of re retribution, saw the alice girl shooting another girl while getting lifted to a helicopter and i instantly turned it off. The acting was so bad in that 3 seconds i already knew the movie/series would be a shit show and didnt bother to waste my time
Never seen Retribution or Final Chapter and really don’t care too after I was really let down by Afterlife. The first three are good, especially the first two films. Not sure if I want to see Welcome to Raccoon City.
I’ve only played the newer games, I’ve tried playing the original but I hate the controls, I just can’t stand it. I don’t like the Paul W.S. Anderson movies, but the first 2 are fine. I still haven’t seen WTRC, I’m still excited even though I know it’s flaws
Oooof. While I didn't mind the new one so much, the best? Ooof. I respect your opinion though. But I hated how they scattered storylines that belonged to others. And the casting choice was so bad. The only one I believed was Birkin and even that's eh. And don't get me started on Lisa Trevor lol
Welcome to Raccoon City was so jumbled and sloppy i would have put it towards the back and put extinction in second place and Apocalypse at number 1. But maybe i had too high of hopes for Welcome to Raccoon City. Love your ranks tho man!
Hey Cody, I’ve been watching your review Siri evil and it’s getting me very interested in playing them. I generally play MMORPG like elder scrolls but I want to mix it up and you Piqued my interest with these reviews. If you were recommending this game franchise to a first time player would you just tell him to start at the first one and go from there or is there another one that you think would be more Accessible for hooking a non-fan?
@@seederentertainment3340 thanks for the input man. I was going to purchase one of the games this evening and I wanted to get the best Bang for my buck as someone who isn’t a pre-established fan.. sounds simple enough to just buy the first one and go from there but I know the first one isn’t always necessarily the best one for bringing people into a franchise regardless of what franchise that may be
It depends on you. I think the remake of the original game holds up very well and is available on modern consoles so I would start there BUT it has old school tank controls of PS1 and PS2 era survival horror games. Some people cannot stand those controls. If you look at gameplay clips and it looks miserable to you, I would start with the resident evil 2 and 3 remakes that came out a few years ago.
@@CodyLeachYT I actually already watched some clips before I even read your response lol Having not played it I was trying not to judge it too harshly but I could see me not enjoying that gameplay style. However I can adapt especially once I acquire a taste for something.. I’d probably start with 2, 3 or even 4 it sounds like. Are the side games like code Veronica in the main Canaan? And if so should I just stick to the main continuity first and then go play those or play them in the order they exist in the timeline
You seem like a cool dude and I dont begrudge anyone for having a different opinion on movies than me. But having just watched WTRC I cant fathom how even hardcore fans could like it much. By combining the first two games they didnt just shoot themselves in the foot they blew the damn thing off. Jeremy Jahns said it best. The remakes ARE the modern, cinematic, ramped up to 11 RE experience fans always wanted. A new movie version is redundant. It was cool seeing the settings but whats the point when these places are no longer integral to the story as places to escape? It was cool they wanted to include every main RE character but whats the point when you dont have time to let them all shine? Leon and Jill have absolutely nothing to do. It was cool they wanted to follow the story but, again, two game stories in less than two hours. To call what we get a cliff note skeleton is generous. Not to mention the scale of the story being chopped down to a sliver of what something like Apocalyspe accomplished all those years ago on a similar budget. This new movie is just a hair above looking like a web series. So with all this in mind I have to say I much prefer Anderson's series. More action than horror but at least most of the action is done well with style and flare and when game characters show up at least they have charisma and feel like the larger than life fighters they are in the games.
Man, I would love it if Cody would review the resident evil cgi films.
Sadly people would rate them high because they have Leon’s hair correctly 😂

Welcome to Raccoon City , Apocalypse, Resident Evil (2002), Afterlife, Extinction, Retribution, Final Chapter
Hey Cody have you done a rankings vid of all time top Zombie movies ? Would love to see that!!
Hey Cody any chance on reviewing and ranking the rest of the Deathwish films ?
I know you said you weren't a big animation fan, Cody, but I would still highly recommend the CG films, Degeneration, Damnation and Vendetta. If you are a Resident Evil fan, you will really enjoy those; they are easily superior to any of the live-action movies in my opinion. Leon Kennedy in particular is a total badass in those outings.
Cool list! I completely agree with it
My ranking:
Resident Evil Extinction (GO OUT AND BUY IT
Resident Evil (STREAM IT)
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (STREAM IT)
Resident Evil: Afterlife (SEE IT ON NETFLIX)
Resident Evil: Retribution (SKIP IT)
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (FUCK THIS MOVIE)
I have not seen Welcome To Racoon City
I SO AGREE with you about Apocalypse.
Dude, that shirt is amazing 🤩
Nice ranking cody it’s exactly like my ranking but welcome to raccoon city to me Way better than the other sex films
the best RE movie we got yet
Just discovered you. I'm pretty sure you are my spirit animal
Just watched Welcome To Raccoon City and I quite liked it. It wasn't perfect (I didn't care for the depiction of Leon or Wesker and some of the CGI looked pretty fake by today's standards) but all in all, I think it's the best Resident Evil movie we've got to date. My ranking would be as follows:
7) RE: Extinction
6) RE: Retribution
5) RE: Apocalypse
4) RE: The Final Chapter
3) RE: Afterlife
2) Resident Evil
1) Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City
1. Resident Evil
2. Apocalypse
3. Extinction
4. Retribution
5. Afterlife
6. Final Chapter
If I want to watch a movie completely tie to the games I watch it in games. If I want good quality Resident Evil, I watch it based on separate story built for the movie from ground up
cody you should review the new south park short film: post covid and possibly give us some reviews and rankings of all the old south park seasons
Cant wait for the next reboot.
7. The Final Chapter- 0.5/5
6. Welcome to Raccoon City- 0.75/5
5. Retribution- 1.25/5
4. Afterlife- 2/5
3. Resident Evil- 2.5/5
2. Extinction- 3/5
1. Apocalypse- 3/5
Welcome to Racoon City is the best hands down no contest.
Agree 🤝
Welcome To Raccoon City is my favorite out of the resident evil films, even though I didn't like a lot of the writing its the most faithful to the games.
After seeing welcome to raccoon city I bought the remaster of 2 and I’m loving it. I agree with the ranking too mine would be the same
I love first 3 RE films. Retribution is the worst one. I like a few moments in The Final Chapter
That shirt is awesome 🤘
To be honest I really enjoyed welcome to raccoon city because it's better than the other resident evil movies directed by Paul WS Anderson and I'm not saying that welcome to raccoon city is good but it's better than the movies because they follow the 1st two games
No it doesn't. It just looks like it does.
Welcome to raccoon city is the best resident evil movie by a landslide I do think apocalypse and og 2002 are serviceable and entertaining
complete agree with you bro!
Wow, the newest Dexter. Can't wait to hear what Cody has to say.
1. RE WTRC
2. RE3
3. Afterlife
4. RE
5. RE Apocalypse
6. RE2
7. RE R
8. RE TFC
1. Resident evil: apocalypse
2. Resident evil: welcome to raccoon city
3. Resident evil: extinction
4. Resident evil
5. Resident evil: afterlife
6. Resident evil: retribution
7. Resident evil: the final chapter
There isn't a Sherry Birkin in the Resident Evil Movie Franchise, you are probably referring to "K-Mart" as the teenage girl when discussing extinction.
4 and 5 are the best slices of cheese in the entire series. The rest I could do without.
Lifetime fan
👀.... 🤔😁👏👌, your totally right!.
I think the same, this time make a GREAT MOVIE. I see this movie 2 times!. And im buy when release in Bluray!. and added to my mega collection of RESIDENT EVIL!!.
Again I enjoy the series. Some are a little off but most of them are fun and crazy guilty pleasures.
loved the video
As a die-hard RE fan, here is my list:
1. Apocalypse
2. Welcome to Raccoon City
3. Afterlife
4. Resident Evil
5. Extinction
6. The Final Chapter
7. Retribution
You calling yourself a hardcore resident evil fan and at the same time put in second place welcome to raccoon city is hilarious of you
@@solomonkane5240 lol, yeah that movie sucked. But as a Resident Evil movie, WTRC was way more game accurate than the Milla Jovovich ones. I just happen to like Apocalypse the best out of all them, even though that movie sucked too.
FYI
Mister Anderson didn't direct Apocalypse or Extinction. Cmon bro...get it together
I hope you and the family had a great holiday,be safe,be well,be happy.rp
Nice one Cody
Im thinking that James wan would be the absolute PERFECT director for a Resident evil adaptation. He can do action and horror like hes already proven. Hollywood, please! Its so obvious
I agree with your ranking, but I’d switch Afterlife and Retribution
I only played a little bitnof the first game and none others but I still enjoyed Welcome to Racoon City.
Without seeing the newest movie, I agree with your rankings. As a huge fan of the series and the games, the new movie looks exciting to me.
I hope they eventually make a true to story RE4 movie. Gotta see the Big Cheese and hear about the ballistics.
Sorry to say but that's never going to happen, the closest thing your going to get a RE4 movie is the video game remake.
Agree 100%
4:12 Like they do in all the Anderson RE films because the guy can't commit to his cliffhanger endings.
Got an idea for a video for ya! Video game movie ranking, gotta pick the best video game to movie adaptation!
Yeah even the later games took inspiration from the movies. Laser scene in RE4 and slo mo Matrix fight scenes
Resident Evil needs a new producer and good directors
PWS movies just rank from 6-5-4-3-1-2 , huh ?
Kinda easy ranking but wasnt expecting the first two switched
Hey Cody, I’ve been watching your review Siri evil and it’s getting me very interested in playing them. I generally play MMORPG like elder scrolls but I want to mix it up and you Piqued my interest with these reviews. If you were recommending this game franchise to a first time player would you just tell him to start at the first one and go from there or is there another one that you think would be more Accessible for hooking a non-fan?
Start with 4 for sure cause it’s the best or try remake 2 & 3 as they are more accessible for new players
@@seederentertainment3340 thanks for the input man. I was going to purchase one of the games this evening and I wanted to get the best Bang for my buck as someone who isn’t a pre-established fan.. sounds simple enough to just buy the first one and go from there but I know the first one isn’t always necessarily the best one for bringing people into a franchise regardless of what franchise that may be
@@michaelshane5882 If you're on playstation they're on sale in the store.
Okay now that this new movie is out can we *PLEASE GET PROPER ADAPTATION OF DOOM!!!*
More action than horror but at least most of the action is done well with style and flare and when game characters show up at least they have charisma and feel like the larger than life fighters they are in the games.
its not a perfect movie, but i loved it myself. Alot of ester eggs.
