Nice but hopefully you bought it from Porsche and have extended warranty with Porsche because you will have faults. Also hopefully you got the spec you wanted as the extras will help lessen the depreciation which will happen. The car was cheaper because they aren't selling. I nearly bought one but I think more depreciation is to come. I had an EV for 2 years but luckily got out in time.
I sold my e tron gt rs for the model 3 performance highland. Here in Australia there Tesla network is king. I’m loving the model 3 performance as my daily commute to my office and around town. I don’t think anything is better and I have a lot of cars in my warehouse to choose from

I was in this exact scenario. I've had the 2019 Model 3 Performance for 5 years and have driven an Audi before that and wanted to upgrade. After test driving and comparing a used E-Tron GT against the new 2024 M3P, I've decided for a new Tesla. The E-Tron GT looks absolutely amazing, but unfortunately, that really ended up being the only real pro vs a bunch of cons. The main cons for me were: didn't really like the Audi infotainment and navigation is very inferior to the convenience I'm used to from Tesla, in particular charging stops. No one-pedal driving, acceleration doesn't feel as instant, car overall less snappy in the city. Practicability of the car is quite bad, there's 0 convenient storage in the cabin, no idea where to put my stuff. My usual driving position has my arm resting on the center console, but the layout of the Audi makes that a bit uncomfortable (cup holders where the elbow is). The cabin felt quite loud (for an electric car) and ride comfort wasn't really what I had hoped it would be in the Audi (Highland feels better to me). My primary use is city driving, so the added length and width of the car didn't help either. Overall, other than the looks and maybe prestige(?), there wasn't really anything in favor of the Audi for me.
@@mals83 Agree, but to be honest I don’t think there is much prestige in an Audi or BMW any longer. Tesla has surpassed them with better cars. I don’t even like the looks of these cars any more, especially on the inside. They all look to be from the previous millennium.

@@fr3238buddy I assure u that if a bmw M4 pulls up next to u at a car show all eyed will be on that bmw. A tesla turns absolutely no heads. .Dude the drivers pov in a tesla makes it feel like ur in a 5k company car. No cool gauge cluster screen, no heads up display, plastic buttons on the wheel. Not even a drivers placed scroll wheel so u can sit back and drive while operating the screen easily.. instead u have to constantly reach forward and touch the screen. Plus the glass roof with no monochromatic glass to darken it on a sunny day is so annoying. Teslas interior and their looks are by far their worst aspect but that's how they can get their prices so low.
@@PEACEOUTXX1 Exactly. That Tesla goes just as unnoticed as similarly priced BMWs and Audi's. Obviously a kitted out M4 grabs more attention as it has the boy-racer appearance. Same with the Audi RS models. Those just look awesome and are not common, mainly due to the very, very high price point. In Holland, an M4 can easily cost you north of up to ~180-200k Euro, that's 200k+ USD for a brand new M4 with some kit on it. So very few will be seen on the road as the price is just way too high.
@@PEACEOUTXX1 I don't really care which car turns heads. If the M4 turns heads it's probably the noise it makes. I almost never operate the screen while driving as that is hardly necessary. The M3P is so smooth and responsive everywhere, from the throttle response to display. When it comes to looks that is a very personal thing. I think both look great exterior wise, but the interior of any BMW just seem so cluttered and old fashioned I can't live with it. But whatever, people should get and drive the car they desire.
Personal choice? Happy with the Tesla. It does what an electric car should do very well. It can also go very quickly very quickly!! Its practical, comfy and not bad looking. Tesla for me.
I just creased up laughing when you were going on about nowhere to put your phone in the Audi and then finished by casually dropping your phone into the cupholder using the centre cutout to perfectly place it. I used to wonder why cupholders were like that until I realised that I could put my phone in there. I rarely if ever use cupholders as cupholders.

It’s a fabulous car and the only time we question our choice is when we’re tempted by your clear arguments in favour of all things Tesla (especially the supercharging). Sadly what stops me from buying Tesla is that in my opinion, Elon Musk has rendered Tesla a toxic brand. So we’ll stick with our Audi
Did this two months ago, had two model 3 long ranges was considering the new performance but bought a two year old 12k miles GT Vorsprung from an Audi dealer so two year warranty and servicing included for £9k less than the Tesla (both great cars but absolutely smitten with the GT) both a great choice no right or wrong.
I love Tesla, and have one, but my dream cars are the eTron GT and Merc GT, that was once electrified, the green one Jezza featured on TG years ago. But today, eTron GT, top spec in graphite is my dream car.
If I absolutely had to change my Zoe to one of these 😉, it would be the Audi. Love these used vs new comparisons. With ICE cars they tend to get great used cars against run of the mill new. Issue is the running costs of the used can potentially be astronomical. Appears to be less of an issue with EV’s. Hence the Audi. And it looks amazing. 👍
ETron GT owner here, and i also own a Tesla Model S...(Model 3 is just in a much lower class compared to these two premium EV GTs which i would never consider to be honest)... And my experience with these two cars can be summed up easily --- Model S helps ease my daily commute with FSD, while ETron GT is my go-to vehicle for spirited weekend drive

Same here mate. Bought a year ago with 6k miles. Depreciation is the killer so I did PCP so I can hand it back at the end so I don’t take the hit. Will be a bargain for the 3rd owner as well.
@@Pigsrfreeyou would be surprised how well this worked and how cheap it was! The finance company gave a very high RV, currently £15k above where the market is now so my payments are nowhere near as much as the depreciation. So when they get it back in a year it will likely be £30k less than the end payment. I’m not an idiot when it comes to numbers. PCP can be a very effective way of protecting the downside of buying an EV. Leasing is also much better, and you can often extend a lease beyond the term depending on the deal and provider.
I have 8 roundabouts between my house and the M8 on my run to Glasgow. I could not deal with the lack of indicator stalks. Model 3 was designed in a country with almost no roundabouts.
The Tesla. Audi still has software problems and you have to take it to a dealer to update. My friend said for the last software update the dealer had the car for 3 days. Tesla have evs sorted, and the others still have a long way to go to catch up
Richard you sold me on the E-Tron when you had that. I bought a 3 year old Launch Edition with all the extras. Delighted with it especially the fast charging on longer journeys. Again I would go for the Audi, but not as practical as the E-Tron which was the reason for buying it The RS is a lovely car, but even at its depreciated value still a bit too rich for me.
What about the battery health analysis for the GT? On the M3 that's very easy to do. (And certainly helpful when buying secondhand) What about basic autopilot? I use that 95% of the time in my M3. The Tesla is still more of a mobile phone on wheels (with continuous UI and feature upgrades), while the GT seems to be a vehicle with an electric drivetrain. Its tiny infotainment screen and software already appears to be outdated.
It blows me away the non Tesla EVs you can get over there at Tesla prices. Here in Australia the cheapest second hand etron GT (not RS mind you) is $112k, vs $87k for a new M3P).
The Audi is so tempting...but I depend on FSD too much to give up my '24 M3P. I use FSD just about everyday and I've gotten use to switching in and out of while driving. If FSD is driving to pedestrian for my mood, I drive. If rush hour is causing my road rage to trigger, I switch to FSD. I love the self-parking on my Tesla. I love the UI and huge senter display. No doubt, the Audi would be driving a status symbol and float like a flying rug which would normally make me all in for it, but Apple Carplay isn't enough to fix the Audi UI and no way will get a newish car without a comparable feature to FSD.

@@PEACEOUTXX1 When I watch the Edmunds reviews, they seem to be using a Tesla from several years ago. 🤷♂ I test drove the Model 3/Y and the BMW i4 a year ago and felt the Tesla were lacking refinement compared to the then current Merc. I really enjoyed the i4 but I was skeptical about their adaptive cruise control implementation and the charging network. Luckily, Tesla up'ed the refinement in the Model 3 and jumped on the refresh this year. I drive regularly with FSD 12.5.2. It's hands free and drives terrific. I experienced 12.4.x for about a week and the tugging the wheel every minute missed the spirit of being autonomous. FSD still drives a little too slow at times so if I may be tempted to take the wheel to be more aggressive. Auto park is also terrific. So much so, I pick it any opportunity I can since I was never good and backing in and doing so is safer on my front bumper. Now that I'm taking the safety for granted, I'd like to see parking become faster and more assertive. Early version was too slow. The current speed is fine but I'm still self-conscious about it if someone is waiting to get pass me. I never feel bored with car however. Styling is sleek enough and the infotainment never gets old. The car has a real OS running all the electronics and there are smart features to be had throughout. I worried about regret there are so many other Teslas on the road in Southern California and that hasn't come to pass-like an iPhone user worrying there are too many people with iPhones.
They're chalk and cheese Richard, even taking into account the Audi's depreciation it is still twice the price, with 35k on the clock. Both are attractive, but I would opt for the Model 3 purely because of the Tesla charging infrastructure.
Here in the US, a new Audi E-Tron GT is about triple the price of a Model 3 P but I guess if I could find a used Audi E-Tron for the same price as a new M3P in great condition, the Audi is the better car.
I just bought a used 2021 Plaid with 21k miles for $56k but was seriously considering the 2024 M3P . After driving the Plaid once, there’s just no comparison. It’s incredibly fast and feels so much faster than the 2024 M3P well because it is 😂
@@spikebmth You do get used to where the buttons are exiting too, but stalks are still better. Luckily there are aftermarket stalks for the Model 3 for those who need it 😀
@@fr3238 I did drive a stalkless LHD Model X for around 20min, which when the steering wheel was straight, the buttons where fine, it was, like I said, when indicating exiting a roundabout, when needed to look to see where the buttons are. As Richard says, seems ok 90% of the time. I have heard that at some point Teslas will self indicate, when following the nav route.

I also love the new colour on the Y, it looks great on the app with white interior but I saw one in the bright sun recently with that combo and actually I thought it looked a bit insipid? I think it would have to be the black interior and take it to have the wood changed for anthracite at somewhere like RSEV Southampton Currently on Rightmove looking at houses in Brixam! 😂
My heart tells me the Audi for the build quality & head tells me to get a Tesla for the longevity with the software, etc. They are both great cars & Tesla highlander looks stunning!
For me: definitely the Tesla. After 15 years of VAG products, i bought a Tesla and what a difference. No maintenance, low costs, perfect charge infrastructure, nice service (not the arrogant Audi garages, Tesla is just fantastic. No more VAG shit for me.
Awesome comparison and what we found when we purchased a used model S from you guys a few years ago rather than a new model 3. What I really want to see is a comparison of a used Taycan Turbo S vs that e-Tron as I imagine they both cost around £60K at 3 years old. I believe Porsche charge an arm and a leg for subscription for the car’s features plus the servicing after 3 years, so I love to see those costs compared please :)
I think most people will choose tesla, because that's what they can relate to the most. They can't relate to an expensive audi, only very few can. Tesla on the other hand is much cheaper and more attainable for many people. Here in Texas I see them everywhere, even the new M3P. But only see very few etron gts and those things are beautiful to look at.

Just another feature in the USA. I have the MP3 Performance and use FSD to commute and even drive around town when I feel like using. It’s way better than I ever thought it could be. Selling my Porsche GTS Macan to get a used S.
Probably the Tesla still. I'm just not sure i trust other manufacturers yet. Tesla has been in this a long time and there will be less problems. I expect you still have to take the Audi in for service and if you get a problem, the technicians might not know what to do.
Seems to me the answer is pre-highland model 3 performance... Here in Australia plenty for sale at around AUD40K (2020 model year) or less than half the price of a Highland... Put some better suspension and seem to have best of both worlds...
Very interesting review! I opted for the Audi as I preferred the fact it’s a really good car and then an EV (my first and a 71 plate too). Tesla’s strengths are economy and charger network but I think I’m covered on the network side. I have a subscription to ABRP and it reads the car’s SOC via Enode and the app shows the availability of chargers etc - a bit of a win 👍🏼
Without doubt the M3 Highland, having taken delivery of one 2 weeks ago now as my first EV. It’s super efficient, fun, and just easy to live with without thinking too much about charging etc. Then there’s the Tesla supercharger network with preferentially low rates for owners… for life. And sentry mode, Tesla theatre, dog mode, phone key (eliminating the threat of keyless theft) etc - features more cars need to have because they’re brilliant. Just my first impressions but yeah, you’ll find it hard to sell me a legacy EV that doesn’t have this stuff and can only do 2.5mi/KWh because it weighs too much because it’s battery is unnecessarily big 🤷♂️
Hope you didn't buy it as it will depreciate quickly. Personally the Audi and especially the Porsche are so much nicer to drive and build quality plus interior a lot better than Tesla. Tesla interior feels cheap and very plastic but technology is good.
try some really hard braking from higher speeds in line with what a 400bhp car can do and you will find out one of its major shortcomings, perhaps partly down to the weight, the model Y brakes are not a patch on Audi/BMW in very hard applications and are verging on dangerous
In Europe Tesla uses CCS as well and you could charge your Audi at Tesla networks, though you would probably not want to because the Tesla superchargers are not as fast since they have not been updated in many years. It’s a bit cheaper though than most competitors, just like the cars.

I fell in love with the Etron when you and Matt Watson did that video that you mention in this clip. That vid made me realise that EVs were now a viable option. However, despite the drop in value, both cars are still out of my price range. I have a KIA EV 6 on a salary sacrifice scheme that costs me £684 per month all in. A similar scheme for the Tesla performance without fancy autopilot cost £247 more per month than the EV 6. If I where to buy the Etron on an interest-free loan, then the cost of the loan would be around £1,250 per month, no maintenance, no insurance, no tax etc. They are still just too expensive by far . EV 6 for me, I don't need a missile and I have 800 volt charging like the Etron.
Im guessing it's a no contest when it comes to quality materials, fit and finish. I have a 3 SRP and it's fun to drive but the steering is lacking in feel.
Tesla hater? You don't need parking sensors when there's hd cameras all around the car. Mentioning the windscreen wipers? Unable to press a single button?! Tesla actually has indicators, too, lol.
With regard to servicing the Audi, people have c9mmented on the annual service requirements. Well, here in the UK you need to have your car MOT'd annually after 3 years so a service from an EV specialist independent and MOT once a year makes absolute sense. I know Tesla regard cars as electronic devices but safety is hugely important as driving a car you are responsible for the safety of yourself, your passengers and everybody else with whom you come into close proximity with. Checking and servicing your car once a year is no hardship.
People forget that even if an EV doesn't need oil change , it still has the same components as other cars. Seals, suspension, brakes, cooling system, HVAC, wipers, lights, seatbelts....
Which for many is a perk. Clean modern vs old traditional luxury. The old iPhone vs Blackberry debate. So it depends on generation groups, which can dictate matters of nostalgia and taste.

The reason the Tesla does everything that matters better is the same reason the interior looks the way it does. Less buttons and stalks means less cables means less weight, on an average cars the Tesla saves a human’s weight in cables alone. Everything you need is there, just not behind a button. If you want to know where this is going next, check out the 48V architecture of the cybertruck. 4x the volts means a fraction of the cable weight for your windows and other mundane stuff.
Richard loves ultra-premium cars, praises everything that is luxury-expensive extra equipment, but he absolutely does not want to pay for it. The Audi GT RS for under 60k - thats a lot of car. It is good that Richard shows different choises in the marketplace. Here you can´t finc a 2 year (´22) old GT RS under 80k. And, a new one, speced, is much more than double the price of a new M3P. Can you really compare these two?

I am dumping my M3 LR Highland for the Etron GT. 1) Tesla Navigation is crap compared to Waze or Google Maps. Maps are outdated compared to Waze or Google Maps. The voice activation cannot match SIRI. Audi has airplay period. 2) Tesla could not charge as fast with 11KWH at home vs the 22 KWH for the Audi. 3) At HIgh speed Cornering Speed above 140KPH, the Tesla feels very twitchy. I have to really focus. A lapse of concentration and it will steer off track. 4) Tesla Model 3 Highland is becoming VERY VERY common. You don't have the sense of occasion driving it. No one can really differentiate the M3P vs the base RWD model. Even a fresh graduate can afford a Tesla. Only the Taycan is arguably better looking compared to the Audi Etron GT.
Audi for me. But insurance, depreciation etc puts them both out of my price range. If i really had a choice id go for a taycan cross tourismo, practical ( ish ) boot on a super car.
Hi, how much does servicing cost on the e tron? I know with tesla there is no cost. 1 guy said his taycan cost over 700 pounds and the dealer could not explain why...
The new 2024 model of the Audi even has this new suspension technology also Porsche uses (even more comfortable) and charges at up to 320kW until 60% SoC. Imagine that car depreciate like this one and be worth only 60k in 2-3 years. Would be a insane no-brainer
Porsche is nicer to drive but range on both is rubbish due to weight of the car and older battery technology. I would wait 3 years as newer batteries will be out soon.
Wow, that a very, very difficult choice to make. I could write loads but I'll cut to the chase. I'd hate to be dependent on Muggle charging. Obviously where you live and where you drive has a big affect on the chargers available to you. And for me, where I live and the ling distance routes that I travel it would ultimately have to be the Tesla. I totally get it, where you live and travel that might not be an issue for you but it is for me.
Having come from a number of German cars and after switching to a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD for the last four years, I am now ready to go back to the luxury of a German car again. So, your question is a good one and is similar to the question, should I buy a used Tesla Model S or a new Model 3 at the same price?
I was facing this question four months ago. Originally, I was leaning on a used Model S as I love to get a good deal. I was and still have a crush on Model S, having always loved the look of the vehicle. Non-refreshed Model Sss scared me off with their poor reliability ratings and use of outdated screen orientation. But the used refreshed Model Ss in my area were just missing my strike price I wanted, so ultimately, I went with a new M3P. After three months of M3P ownership, I love the car. I test drove a Model 3 last year and was unimpressed, but Tesla added just enough refinement. And the software pendulum has started to swing in favor of Hardware 4 cars (late 23 and newer) getting priority on updates which makes me glad I didn't go with the used Model S + Hardware 3.
Get a car thats engaging and looks good. Not a basic traffic tesla ! Trust me. U will enjoy driving alot more. I couldn't wait to get out of my rental tesla into a bmw m4
I’d never choose the Audi, far too pretentious for me :) Tend to be driven by wealthy older men and seen towing a caravan or large boat. Looks as large as a Model S. The Tesla does the job, most people will not realise it’s the ‘fast’ one, and here in New Zealand it’s quite a lot less than you pay over there (it’s the equivalent of £40,963 here brand-new, including on-road costs. Basic Model 3 is £31,089). Tesla Service centres are good, very reasonably-priced parts and labour. I’ve had my Model 3 Performance for five years and I love how it drives. I bought it for how well it works, not to be any kind of status symbol. I won’t tell you what car I had before it, but it was noisy and bright green, and a terrible experience to own :D
It doesn’t matter how comfortable and luxurious the other car is, it’ll never beat a Tesla imo. The tech outshines everyone other vehicle… Sentry Mode, Dog Mode, Valet Mode, Boombox, built-in 360° Dash Cash, Pin To Drive, Pin Glovebox, Cabin Camera, pre-heat or pre-cool the car using the app and so much more!
Most of these things are useless gimmicks that nobody cares about. Also what makes you think other brands do not have apps? i got bmw app and i can do every thing you listed, but i hardly use it ever. Another gimmick.
Tax Credits, Interest Rate, Full Warranty, Extensive supercharge network and Service Centers. If those things don’t matter to you, go with the Audi it’s a better car, might not be a better experience though. Other US factors: M3P battery is a bit different and has fast charging capabilities not unlike Audi. Every Audi service center doesn’t have the capability to work on the E-Tron and there are various stories of customers having to wait weeks for parts and such.
Ive played the depreciation game and just bought a 23 reg Taycan Cross Turismo for £60kish...the first owner paid £125K! man maths-good value!

The cabin felt quite loud (for an electric car) and ride comfort wasn't really what I had hoped it would be in the Audi (Highland feels better to me). My primary use is city driving, so the added length and width of the car didn't help either. Overall, other than the looks and maybe prestige(?), there wasn't really anything in favor of the Audi for me.
@@mals83 Agree, but to be honest I don’t think there is much prestige in an Audi or BMW any longer. Tesla has surpassed them with better cars. I don’t even like the looks of these cars any more, especially on the inside. They all look to be from the previous millennium.
@@fr3238similar with me, a friends used taycan felt exactly as described above, noticed easily 500kg extra weight, it only has more like a tank feeling.
@@fr3238buddy I assure u that if a bmw M4 pulls up next to u at a car show all eyed will be on that bmw. A tesla turns absolutely no heads. .Dude the drivers pov in a tesla makes it feel like ur in a 5k company car. No cool gauge cluster screen, no heads up display, plastic buttons on the wheel. Not even a drivers placed scroll wheel so u can sit back and drive while operating the screen easily.. instead u have to constantly reach forward and touch the screen. Plus the glass roof with no monochromatic glass to darken it on a sunny day is so annoying. Teslas interior and their looks are by far their worst aspect but that's how they can get their prices so low.
@@PEACEOUTXX1 Exactly. That Tesla goes just as unnoticed as similarly priced BMWs and Audi's. Obviously a kitted out M4 grabs more attention as it has the boy-racer appearance. Same with the Audi RS models. Those just look awesome and are not common, mainly due to the very, very high price point. In Holland, an M4 can easily cost you north of up to ~180-200k Euro, that's 200k+ USD for a brand new M4 with some kit on it. So very few will be seen on the road as the price is just way too high.
@@PEACEOUTXX1 I don't really care which car turns heads. If the M4 turns heads it's probably the noise it makes. I almost never operate the screen while driving as that is hardly necessary. The M3P is so smooth and responsive everywhere, from the throttle response to display. When it comes to looks that is a very personal thing. I think both look great exterior wise, but the interior of any BMW just seem so cluttered and old fashioned I can't live with it. But whatever, people should get and drive the car they desire.

Personal choice? Happy with the Tesla. It does what an electric car should do very well. It can also go very quickly very quickly!! Its practical, comfy and not bad looking. Tesla for me.
I just creased up laughing when you were going on about nowhere to put your phone in the Audi and then finished by casually dropping your phone into the cupholder using the centre cutout to perfectly place it. I used to wonder why cupholders were like that until I realised that I could put my phone in there.

Another great video from you. Thank you. We drive a fully loaded Etron Gt Vorsprung (but not the RS). It’s a fabulous car and the only time we question our choice is when we’re tempted by your clear arguments in favour of all things Tesla (especially the supercharging). Sadly what stops me from buying Tesla is that in my opinion, Elon Musk has rendered Tesla a toxic brand. So we’ll stick with our Audi

Undoubtedly the Audi, better in so many ways. From charging speed all the way to the fact that it actually has levers for blinkers, etc.
Did this two months ago, had two model 3 long ranges was considering the new performance but bought a two year old 12k miles GT Vorsprung from an Audi dealer so two year warranty and servicing included for £9k less than the Tesla (both great cars but absolutely smitten with the GT) both a great choice no right or wrong.

I love Tesla, and have one, but my dream cars are the eTron GT and Merc GT, that was once electrified, the green one Jezza featured on TG years ago. But today, eTron GT, top spec in graphite is my dream car.
If I absolutely had to change my Zoe to one of these 😉, it would be the Audi. Love these used vs new comparisons. With ICE cars they tend to get great used cars against run of the mill new. Issue is the running costs of the used can potentially be astronomical. Appears to be less of an issue with EV’s. Hence the Audi. And it looks amazing. 👍
ETron GT owner here, and i also own a Tesla Model S...(Model 3 is just in a much lower class compared to these two premium EV GTs which i would never consider to be honest)... And my experience with these two cars can be summed up easily --- Model S helps ease my daily commute with FSD, while ETron GT is my go-to vehicle for spirited weekend drive

Same here mate. Bought a year ago with 6k miles. Depreciation is the killer so I did PCP so I can hand it back at the end so I don’t take the hit. Will be a bargain for the 3rd owner as well.
By doing PCP YOU are paying the depreciation, not the finance company 😂😂

The finance company gave a very high RV, currently £15k above where the market is now so my payments are nowhere near as much as the depreciation. So when they get it back in a year it will likely be £30k less than the end payment.
I’m not an idiot when it comes to numbers. PCP can be a very effective way of protecting the downside of buying an EV. Leasing is also much better, and you can often extend a lease beyond the term depending on the deal and provider.
I have 8 roundabouts between my house and the M8 on my run to Glasgow. I could not deal with the lack of indicator stalks. Model 3 was designed in a country with almost no roundabouts.
Its easy to indicate on roundabouts apart from when your exiting a mini roundabout which most people don't do anyway given the short duration.
I was about to ask if that was East Kilbride...but then you would have said 16 roundabouts 😅
The Tesla. Audi still has software problems and you have to take it to a dealer to update. My friend said for the last software update the dealer had the car for 3 days. Tesla have evs sorted, and the others still have a long way to go to catch up
Richard you sold me on the E-Tron when you had that. I bought a 3 year old Launch Edition with all the extras. Delighted with it especially the fast charging on longer journeys. Again I would go for the Audi, but not as practical as the E-Tron which was the reason for buying it The RS is a lovely car, but even at its depreciated value still a bit too rich for me.

What about the battery health analysis for the GT? On the M3 that's very easy to do. (And certainly helpful when buying secondhand)
What about basic autopilot? I use that 95% of the time in my M3.
The Tesla is still more of a mobile phone on wheels (with continuous UI and feature upgrades), while the GT seems to be a vehicle with an electric drivetrain. Its tiny infotainment screen and software already appears to be outdated.
It blows me away the non Tesla EVs you can get over there at Tesla prices. Here in Australia the cheapest second hand etron GT (not RS mind you) is $112k, vs $87k for a new M3P).

The Audi is so tempting...but I depend on FSD too much to give up my '24 M3P. I use FSD just about everyday and I've gotten use to switching in and out of while driving. If FSD is driving to pedestrian for my mood, I drive. If rush hour is causing my road rage to trigger, I switch to FSD. I love the self-parking on my Tesla. I love the UI and huge senter display. No doubt, the Audi would be driving a status symbol and float like a flying rug which would normally make me all in for it, but Apple Carplay isn't enough to fix the Audi UI and no way will get a newish car without a comparable feature to FSD.

I test drove the Model 3/Y and the BMW i4 a year ago and felt the Tesla were lacking refinement compared to the then current Merc. I really enjoyed the i4 but I was skeptical about their adaptive cruise control implementation and the charging network. Luckily, Tesla up'ed the refinement in the Model 3 and jumped on the refresh this year.
I drive regularly with FSD 12.5.2. It's hands free and drives terrific. I experienced 12.4.x for about a week and the tugging the wheel every minute missed the spirit of being autonomous. FSD still drives a little too slow at times so if I may be tempted to take the wheel to be more aggressive.
Auto park is also terrific. So much so, I pick it any opportunity I can since I was never good and backing in and doing so is safer on my front bumper. Now that I'm taking the safety for granted, I'd like to see parking become faster and more assertive. Early version was too slow. The current speed is fine but I'm still self-conscious about it if someone is waiting to get pass me.
I never feel bored with car however. Styling is sleek enough and the infotainment never gets old. The car has a real OS running all the electronics and there are smart features to be had throughout. I worried about regret there are so many other Teslas on the road in Southern California and that hasn't come to pass-like an iPhone user worrying there are too many people with iPhones.
They're chalk and cheese Richard, even taking into account the Audi's depreciation it is still twice the price, with 35k on the clock. Both are attractive, but I would opt for the Model 3 purely because of the Tesla charging infrastructure.
They are both £60k - re-watch the video the e-Tron is a 2021 whilst the Tesla is brand new.

Here in the US, a new Audi E-Tron GT is about triple the price of a Model 3 P but I guess if I could find a used Audi E-Tron for the same price as a new M3P in great condition, the Audi is the better car.

I just bought a used 2021 Plaid with 21k miles for $56k but was seriously considering the 2024 M3P . After driving the Plaid once, there’s just no comparison. It’s incredibly fast and feels so much faster than the 2024 M3P well because it is 😂

@@fr3238 I did drive a stalkless LHD Model X for around 20min, which when the steering wheel was straight, the buttons where fine, it was, like I said, when indicating exiting a roundabout, when needed to look to see where the buttons are.
As Richard says, seems ok 90% of the time.
I have heard that at some point Teslas will self indicate, when following the nav route.

Awesome comparison and what we found when we purchased a used model S from you guys a few years ago rather than a new model 3. What I really want to see is a comparison of a used Taycan Turbo S vs that e-Tron as I imagine they both cost around £60K at 3 years old. I believe Porsche charge an arm and a leg for subscription for the car’s features plus the servicing after 3 years, so I love to see those costs compared please :)
I think most people will choose tesla, because that's what they can relate to the most. They can't relate to an expensive audi, only very few can. Tesla on the other hand is much cheaper and more attainable for many people. Here in Texas I see them everywhere, even the new M3P. But only see very few etron gts and those things are beautiful to look at.

Just another feature in the USA. I have the MP3 Performance and use FSD to commute and even drive around town when I feel like using. It’s way better than I ever thought it could be. Selling my Porsche GTS Macan to get a used S.

Probably the Tesla still. I'm just not sure i trust other manufacturers yet. Tesla has been in this a long time and there will be less problems. I expect you still have to take the Audi in for service and if you get a problem, the technicians might not know what to do.
Seems to me the answer is pre-highland model 3 performance... Here in Australia plenty for sale at around AUD40K (2020 model year) or less than half the price of a Highland... Put some better suspension and seem to have best of both worlds...
Very interesting review! I opted for the Audi as I preferred the fact it’s a really good car and then an EV (my first and a 71 plate too). Tesla’s strengths are economy and charger network but I think I’m covered on the network side. I have a subscription to ABRP and it reads the car’s SOC via Enode and the app shows the availability of chargers etc - a bit of a win 👍🏼

Without doubt the M3 Highland, having taken delivery of one 2 weeks ago now as my first EV. It’s super efficient, fun, and just easy to live with without thinking too much about charging etc. Then there’s the Tesla supercharger network with preferentially low rates for owners… for life. And sentry mode, Tesla theatre, dog mode, phone key (eliminating the threat of keyless theft) etc - features more cars need to have because they’re brilliant. Just my first impressions but yeah, you’ll find it hard to sell me a legacy EV that doesn’t have this stuff and can only do 2.5mi/KWh because it weighs too much because it’s battery is unnecessarily big 🤷♂️

Hope you didn't buy it as it will depreciate quickly. Personally the Audi and especially the Porsche are so much nicer to drive and build quality plus interior a lot better than Tesla. Tesla interior feels cheap and very plastic but technology is good.

try some really hard braking from higher speeds in line with what a 400bhp car can do and you will find out one of its major shortcomings, perhaps partly down to the weight, the model Y brakes are not a patch on Audi/BMW in very hard applications and are verging on dangerous
Well, since the Audi uses the finely honed and maintained electrify america...the choice is clear.
In Europe Tesla uses CCS as well and you could charge your Audi at Tesla networks, though you would probably not want to because the Tesla superchargers are not as fast since they have not been updated in many years. It’s a bit cheaper though than most competitors, just like the cars.
It would be interesting to talk about servicing costs as well. Also which is more reliable?

I fell in love with the Etron when you and Matt Watson did that video that you mention in this clip. That vid made me realise that EVs were now a viable option. However, despite the drop in value, both cars are still out of my price range. I have a KIA EV 6 on a salary sacrifice scheme that costs me £684 per month all in. A similar scheme for the Tesla performance without fancy autopilot cost £247 more per month than the EV 6. If I where to buy the Etron on an interest-free loan, then the cost of the loan would be around £1,250 per month, no maintenance, no insurance, no tax etc. They are still just too expensive by far . EV 6 for me, I don't need a missile and I have 800 volt charging like the Etron.
Im guessing it's a no contest when it comes to quality materials, fit and finish. I have a 3 SRP and it's fun to drive but the steering is lacking in feel.
I would pick the one with parking sensors, working auto windscreen wipers, indicators, etc.

With regard to servicing the Audi, people have c9mmented on the annual service requirements. Well, here in the UK you need to have your car MOT'd annually after 3 years so a service from an EV specialist independent and MOT once a year makes absolute sense.
I know Tesla regard cars as electronic devices but safety is hugely important as driving a car you are responsible for the safety of yourself, your passengers and everybody else with whom you come into close proximity with.
Checking and servicing your car once a year is no hardship.
People forget that even if an EV doesn't need oil change , it still has the same components as other cars. Seals, suspension, brakes, cooling system, HVAC, wipers, lights, seatbelts....
Etron GT has a service schedule of 2 year intervals, or at least mine does

Yeesh…. WAY too much “stuff” in that Audi interior. More “stuff” and less capable than the Tesla. I’d take the infotainment of the Tesla ANY DAY.
The reason the Tesla does everything that matters better is the same reason the interior looks the way it does. Less buttons and stalks means less cables means less weight, on an average cars the Tesla saves a human’s weight in cables alone. Everything you need is there, just not behind a button.
If you want to know where this is going next, check out the 48V architecture of the cybertruck. 4x the volts means a fraction of the cable weight for your windows and other mundane stuff.
I'll take the Audi please, maybe they're both 3 x times what I'd want to pay 😄

Here you can´t finc a 2 year (´22) old GT RS under 80k. And, a new one, speced, is much more than double the price of a new M3P. Can you really compare these two?

Model 3P, and it's not even a difficult decision
I am dumping my M3 LR Highland for the Etron GT. 1) Tesla Navigation is crap compared to Waze or Google Maps. Maps are outdated compared to Waze or Google Maps. The voice activation cannot match SIRI. Audi has airplay period. 2) Tesla could not charge as fast with 11KWH at home vs the 22 KWH for the Audi. 3) At HIgh speed Cornering Speed above 140KPH, the Tesla feels very twitchy. I have to really focus. A lapse of concentration and it will steer off track. 4) Tesla Model 3 Highland is becoming VERY VERY common. You don't have the sense of occasion driving it. No one can really differentiate the M3P vs the base RWD model. Even a fresh graduate can afford a Tesla. Only the Taycan is arguably better looking compared to the Audi Etron GT.

As a Tesla M3 owner I'd rather go with the Audi in this case. The ride comfort, the interior and the look ... all way better in the E-Tron.

Hi, how much does servicing cost on the e tron? I know with tesla there is no cost. 1 guy said his taycan cost over 700 pounds and the dealer could not explain why...
Until the depreciation for new EV's stabilise it doesn't really make sense to buy any new EV unless it's a good lease deal.
The new 2024 model of the Audi even has this new suspension technology also Porsche uses (even more comfortable) and charges at up to 320kW until 60% SoC. Imagine that car depreciate like this one and be worth only 60k in 2-3 years. Would be a insane no-brainer
Porsche is nicer to drive but range on both is rubbish due to weight of the car and older battery technology. I would wait 3 years as newer batteries will be out soon.

I could write loads but I'll cut to the chase. I'd hate to be dependent on Muggle charging. Obviously where you live and where you drive has a big affect on the chargers available to you. And for me, where I live and the ling distance routes that I travel it would ultimately have to be the Tesla.

Having come from a number of German cars and after switching to a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD for the last four years, I am now ready to go back to the luxury of a German car again. So, your question is a good one and is similar to the question, should I buy a used Tesla Model S or a new Model 3 at the same price?
I was facing this question four months ago. Originally, I was leaning on a used Model S as I love to get a good deal. I was and still have a crush on Model S, having always loved the look of the vehicle. Non-refreshed Model Sss scared me off with their poor reliability ratings and use of outdated screen orientation. But the used refreshed Model Ss in my area were just missing my strike price I wanted, so ultimately, I went with a new M3P.
After three months of M3P ownership, I love the car. I test drove a Model 3 last year and was unimpressed, but Tesla added just enough refinement. And the software pendulum has started to swing in favor of Hardware 4 cars (late 23 and newer) getting priority on updates which makes me glad I didn't go with the used Model S + Hardware 3.
Get a car thats engaging and looks good. Not a basic traffic tesla ! Trust me. U will enjoy driving alot more. I couldn't wait to get out of my rental tesla into a bmw m4
I’d never choose the Audi, far too pretentious for me :) Tend to be driven by wealthy older men and seen towing a caravan or large boat. Looks as large as a Model S.
The Tesla does the job, most people will not realise it’s the ‘fast’ one, and here in New Zealand it’s quite a lot less than you pay over there (it’s the equivalent of £40,963 here brand-new, including on-road costs. Basic Model 3 is £31,089). Tesla Service centres are good, very reasonably-priced parts and labour. I’ve had my Model 3 Performance for five years and I love how it drives. I bought it for how well it works, not to be any kind of status symbol. I won’t tell you what car I had before it, but it was noisy and bright green, and a terrible experience to own :D
It doesn’t matter how comfortable and luxurious the other car is, it’ll never beat a Tesla imo. The tech outshines everyone other vehicle… Sentry Mode, Dog Mode, Valet Mode, Boombox, built-in 360° Dash Cash, Pin To Drive, Pin Glovebox, Cabin Camera, pre-heat or pre-cool the car using the app and so much more!
Most of these things are useless gimmicks that nobody cares about. Also what makes you think other brands do not have apps? i got bmw app and i can do every thing you listed, but i hardly use it ever. Another gimmick.
Software gimmicks are not “tech”.

Tax Credits, Interest Rate, Full Warranty, Extensive supercharge network and Service Centers. If those things don’t matter to you, go with the Audi it’s a better car, might not be a better experience though. Other US factors: M3P battery is a bit different and has fast charging capabilities not unlike Audi. Every Audi service center doesn’t have the capability to work on the E-Tron and there are various stories of customers having to wait weeks for parts and such.
