I'll go through everything I like and DONT like! The good, the bad and the ugly.
Overall I have to say I've loved the car but I certainly found some niggles with it. Here I try to explain why I decided NOT to keep it.

We had a Tesla Model 3 but changed to the Audi RS e-ton GT. Miss the sentry mode, one pedal driving and charging network plus the updating capabilities of the Tesla but love the comfort and build quality of the Audi, the 360 degree view, sensors and the heads up which is far safer to drive with. The MMI system drives us round the bend. The back up service and updating capabilities are pretty bad or even very bad. Everything you covered I would agree with. Great review. Thank you.

Interesting you have not mentioned anything about range. I was between the GT and the Model S LR. Ended up with the 2022 Model S LR, in part because of the range. It turns out it does not come near to what is advertised whereas the GT outperforms the published range.
@6:30 - Main reason why I like watching car videos instead of buying them. Driving my older, dinged-up car, I feel no stress about where I park it or about things like risk of curbing the rims. Love to drive these cars, just wouldn't love to use them.

It’s very odd these are the only aspects discussed. What about range? Model S wins there. What about cargo space? Model S wins. What about charging speed? Model S wins. What about 0-60 or 1/4 mile times? Model S wins. What about technology? Model S wins. What about the charging network? Model S wins. Free OTA updates, sentry mode, advanced autopilot, lowest price, UI? Model S wins. Seems a bit odd to only include the most superficial parts of a car. The time is over for “looks” to determine a car’s value. Technology is taking the lead now. And let me say, the legacy automakers better keep up.
@@philorgneopolotin8762 The difference in range above 500km is starting to become insignificant. If you want cargo space, there are better and cheaper alternatives than the model S. Porsche Taycan Turbo S wins the 1/4 mile. What do you mean with technology? Almost all of this is technology. Free OTU is not a USP for Tesla anymore, as VW and other manufactures are also implemeting OTA updates. UI is personal. I think the UI of Tesla's big touch screen is not user friendly. I prefer real buttons (at least for the most regular used function of touch screen). So don't worry. Legacy car manufacturers like VW, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia are already level with Tesla. But aforementioned legacy car manufacturers have well functioning dealer networks, manufacturing capacity and decasdes more experience in building high quality cars than Tesla in general.
Great Video Richard!!! Having experience in the RS ;0) having driven the Vorsprung version to Wales and back and a few other decent journeys; they are super smooth, through the corners you don't really feel the weight on the car, the cabin is extremely plush especially in the vorsprung having cooled, heated memory massage seats...YES PLEASE.... and of course quick as you like. BUT...... the Audi is expensive, very wide, the regen isn't strong enough for 1 pedal driving, still a crap charging network and the range on the RS is only 250 miles I found.
Not to mention you cant get one for about 8 months so used ones are either the same or more than new price like Porsche Taycans!!!
Your right, the Taycan touch screen IS fiddly and the Audi tradtional setup is much better, what I don't get is why you (and everyone else) can't admit this is also an issue with Teslas.
Just picked up the 22 Tycan 4S cherry metallic with the chalk interior, but loaded it up ($152k US). Came out of the BMW 840i (go cart with no suspension - hated), so this Tycan is a dream ride. Looked at the Audi Etron GT, but there was a roar (bass reflex type rumbling) for rear passengers. This has been noted by other TH-camrs. The practicality of the Audi vs the Porsche is worlds apart. Audi cup holders are very small - nothing more than 12oz. The center console storage is a joke and you noted properly that there's absolutely no place to sit your phone without storing it. The glove boxes are bad on both the Porsche and Audi with no sides, so your things simply fall to the right and left. Outside of that, it's simply a matter of taste. Which exterior turns you on... etc. There may be another difference. With the Porsche Connect on the 2022 models, you can park and un-park your car from your phone outside of the vehicle. I'm not sure if the Audi app has gone that far.

For context... Is 1,000 miles a lot? Here in the US, 1,000 miles is about 2 weeks of normal commute driving. Thanks! Love your videos -- you're very well-informed and don't spread mis-information.
It does vary a lot of course but the mean average in the UK for a car is just over 7000 miles a year (as at 2019 - obviously dropped in 2020), but that would include lots of cars used very locally. For this type of car it would probably still be between 10 and 12K a year so pretty much this is a month to a month and a half of UK usage. I have a friend in Texas that described a place being “not too far” that was a 3 hour drive away, if you started in the centre of the UK and drove straight in any direction you would struggle not to fall into the sea in 3 hours. (Not technically true in all cases, but you get the idea 😂)

I’m in TX and had a Tesla Model 3 LR now for 2 years. I really want the Taycan 4s but the charging network in TX is so much better for the Teslas than it is for any CCS vehicle hence the reason I’m still with the Model 3, the only reason tbh!
Richard, the “transmission tunnel” in the back of the Taycan and Audi eTron GT is used for additional battery storage as they lost space with the “foot garages”.
I prefer the looks of the Taycan, and I have one too. But I am happy VAG has alternatives.

I've been driving a Tesla Model 3 for 18 months; it was a no brainer at that time, but pleased that there are some decent alternatives now.
One question I have about pretty much all EVs apart from Tesla: why the paddles or multiple modes for regenerative braking? I can only imagine it adding complexity. If I want my Tesla to coast, I take my foot off the accelerator a bit. If I want to slow down gently, a bit more and I can take it all the way of for complete braking to a stop. Surely the extra modes just make it less efficient by making it less likely that people maximise use of regenerative braking. All the Tesla drivers I know got used to it within 20 minutes and Tesla copied it from Nissan because drivers like it so much.
Just so you know. Max regen is not always the best for longest range. Coasting can give you longer range too.
Also there is always good with options so everyone can configure the car to their liking.
Paddles because at least it keeps the car feeling like a proper sports car and gives the driver some kind of engagement emulating that of a sports car with an engine even though there aren't any gears to shift. You probably aren't into cars so much hence the question about it; it's plain obvious to a car enthusiast why they'd bother making paddles even though it's unnecessary in an EV
@@lychvy8023 Don't really know where the insults came from. You seem to be suggesting that manufacturers should add fake complexity to the driving experience to pretend that the driver improves the control of the car. I hope that there is a future for interesting EVs - at the minute, they're not very involving.
Have you driven a Tesla to compare it to cars which use paddles? I have only had the opportunity to try the Tesla system, so can't comment on the alternatives and that's why I asked a question. If the only benefit is fakery, I'll leave it. If there's a reason which makes the car work better, I'm interested. I'm interested in driving old fashioned cars with manually or sequential or automated gearboxes, in the same way that I like sailing dinghies, riding a horse or off road cycling. The system in a car used by millions of people should be the most efficient and simplest.
@@johnmckay1423 I've driven some thousands of km in Tesla Model 3 and in a BMW iX3 (no paddles, but still 4 levels of regen). Tesla system all the way for me.
@ Danne89: Yes, sure, regen is not always the most efficient way, coasting is more efficient. But what do you think I do with regen on a highway? Like, hitting 80mph, regen down to 60, accelerating to 80, regen back to 60 - that way of driving? Of course not! As John said, you put your accelerator pedal into the "coasting" zone. That's it. This coasting zone is comfortably wide with Tesla (the BMW has it much, much more narrow). This way you can have coasting every time you want it, without the complexity of paddles.
I've had a BMW M2 with paddles to shift the M-DCT and even those I seldom used. On my Tesla's I've never had the desire to change the regeneration level mid-drive, and even have to adapt when the battery is 100% for a long trip, and the first few miles there is none or hardly any regeneration.
Maybe some consumer test groups registered that drivers wanted paddles, but I don't know of anyone actually using them. Like you said, by apply a little bit on the accelerator, you get the same effect and because the car reacts always similar, I feel I can better estimate how far my car will slow down under regeneration, and adapt as such. This means that in hilly area's and on the road I seldom find the need to brake to slow down enough to take a corner. Just ease of the accelerator early enough, and let the regeneration do its work.

In 2015 when I got my Tesla Model S P85 one of the reasons was it was so different, no one had any idea, mate wheres the engine? Fast forward to 2021 Teslas are so common, what a success story, but I knew it would be, 2015 you drove that thing and knew it was going to change the world.

I’ve ordered the Taycan Turbo S and preferred the looks but totally understand those who prefer the Audi. I just couldn’t accept a Model S as being in the same league as it left me a little cold sadly, and the rear seat comfort was terrible (raised floor).

This week Tesla has announced cessation of Model S and Model X vehicle production in RHD configuration! The last Model S & X you could actually buy in Australia was way back in June 2020. So that has now eliminated these cars for any consideration in the UK or Australia and other RHD markets. Apparently they can’t even sell them in LHD in USA with large stock-piles building up so I suspect they may even soon disappear entirely from the market - so Tesla can focus on Cybertruck and impending “Model 2” I suspect.
We have a 2020 Model S Performance, and my biggest complaint is the lack of Android Auto support. I despite the Telsa UI for navigation...
Absolutely on point. I looked at a 2 year old Model S at a (non-Tesla) dealer. The interior was already worn, the exterior panels were a mess, the car was a noisy rattly ride AND neither of us could figure out how to activate the auto-pilot. That's embarrassing considering I've been in the car business for 38 years. Definitely says something about the intuitiveness of the UI.
Just came across your channel! Love your objectivity. As a 4 Tesla Performance owner, I am very excited about the law alternatives . Rivian might be my next ev as a more utilitarian vehicles in these times LOL

So far I have driven 17000 kilometers (yes - +1000 miles…) with my e-tron GT. I love it even if the trunk is smaller than my previous BMW X3…. Our Boston Terrier Lipton also loves the car since it a breeze for him looking out the rear window! 😊
Seriously it is the most comfortable car I have been using. I have been a traveling sales rep in northern Sweden since 1992 and I’m covering 5-60 000 kilometers yearly on roads in different conditions. Only thing I might want to change is to go from the 21 inch 305/30 tires to something smaller which might make it even more quite.

The supercharger network for Tesla, and the car’s awareness of it, together with the efficiency of the Tesla in terms of watt hours per mile, makes a purchase of any other brand an outfield choice. You can discuss seats and buttons till you’re blue in the face, but real-world the Tesla is just a no-brainer.
Yep, exactly what I say basically. A Tesla is the complete package. Others bring some things to the table but it’s hard to argue against efficiency, software and charging network for a tesla
100% agree- well said. For me the big one is the functional SC network versus unreliable others.

@@abraxastulammo9940 I’d be stunned if it was as high as 10%. Where did you get that figure from? The supercharger network just works. It doesn’t need payment at the charger, nor does it need an app, it just needs a Tesla. And they always come in banks of 4 or more, so where does your 10% figure come from?
I dont like the CEO so that keeps me from even slightly entertaining Tesla. I am in the market for either a used Taycan or E-Tron GT.

I have a Tesla model 3 at present and am picking up an Audi RS e-tron GT next week. The difference is staggering. The model 3 is going because the speedometer is in such a useless place, the controls are so difficult got adjust while driving, most being changed through the I-pad. Also, we have had the Tesla for 8 months and are finding that it is showing it’s age already. I look after it fastidiously but the quality is crap, putting it bluntly. The aftersales service is also abysmal. We were thinking of getting the Tesla plaid but one, they will not be in the country until late next year and two the quality probably won’t be any better than this model 3. Plus it would be built in Fremont USA so god knows how that would turnout as our model 3 was made in China and is better than others I’ve seen. The Audi on the other hand is in a totally different category. At £130000 it should be, but the Plaid is also close to that price and I dread to think how it would turn up. Yes the Audi is fast, handles beautifully, is easy to change controls whilst driving with so many proper buttons and has a great service backup. In fact it was even especially cleaned for us to test drive when I thought it was already clean, whilst the Tesla arrived dirty and the keys were just slung at us and we were just left to it to work it all out, it wasn’t even charged much when we had a long journey home. Electric cars are very expensive and Tesla have capitalised whilst other manufacturers are catching up, but they are not helping their good will by how they are treating their customers. Another very useful review by the way. I always find your reviews useful and honest 👍.
Having now had the Audi RS GT for over 6 months, I completely agree with all your comments both positive and negative. I would also add that the MMI system is very slow and constantly making errors. Also when it goes on to Caffyns to update the software due to faults, it take two days which is totally ridiculous in this day and age of computers.
Since I'm a family guy, I prefer my a6 allroad. This is the best fit for me.

Great video as usual thanks. Just let my 2 year 20k M3P go this week in an exchange for a new MIC LR. Very pleased with it. Much better built car than my previous M3. Lost only 3k on my M3P in 2 years which is amazing ( with motorway ) Actually getting money back and lower monthly repayments. Very pleased 😀
Resale value is incredible at the moment. We’ve been selling lots of model 3s, the demand is amazing.
My m3p was also c. £50k two years ago. Now £60k new makes residuals hold very well!
What’s it like going from the Performance to the LR?
@@jamsxr Not much difference really. The MIC car feel more refined and solid than my 2019 perf. Handling very similar on public roads. Initial acceleration is noticeably slower but very similar as speed grows. Efficiency looks to be much better.

I own an etron and can't wait to get rid of it for a kia ev6. The infotainment is gash and half the time I get in it the thing doesn't remember my settings and the center console is awful.
I prefer the looks over the Porche but the two tone nose reminds me of the Hyundai Ioniq. Looks cheap.
And you have to pay extra for parking aid? Wow

No Apple Car-Play / Android Auto on Teslas! In france we get a lot of speed traps, so the App "Waze" comes in very handy! About the front bumper, it's not a grill it's actually there to cut wind turbulence.
You can run waze on the Tesla browser. Once you use Tesla, you don't miss car-play or android auto. The built in maps and other functions are much faster and on a much bigger screen.
@@RemoteSpeed007 waze was just an example. I have lots of apps I use in-car, and Android auto is brilliant as well as being very fast and fluid. personally I hate the big glaring screen, especially at night. I like to plan my itinerary by myself and choose where I go and where I stop and charge etc. I don't want the car to do it for me.
@@justinholding02 We all have different taste - thank God, for me the Tesla 15 inch screen is 500% better than the 10inch screen in my MB and better than my C6, faster, clearer, bigger, much more responsive, love it. The android auto feels dated and slow in comparison.
There are loads of apps I want to run on my Tesla and can’t. After 3 years of Tesla’s hopeless interfaces (waypoints anyone? RDS programme info?) I’d welcome a carplay window.

I would seriously consider the E-Tron rather than the Taycan but for the front elevation. The Taycan is far better looking. And as RS says, it looks like a real sports car.
The reason I won't buy European cars (including LR and Jaguar) is because once you spec them up to what Korean and Japanese cars have (top spec) the price climbs by up to 50%. Its a rip off imo.
It’s not a drive tunnel, it’s the battery. The back foot wells are cut out to stop the squatting position like in most EVs.
Edit : you even mention this yourself later on 😂
They should have cut out that little section too to make a flat floor. Rather daft engineering not to figure it out.
You didn't mention that the Tesla Model S is significantly more efficient than the Taycan/E-tron GT with smaller, lighter battery.
Wow! Like your channel, I do. No, No. No to Apple Car Play and Android Auto. To be honest with you, I would struggle to buy the ID.3 so your issues with the Audi are a million miles away. I really do want to go electric now and watching you I have learned to see electric cars differently, particularly in terms of managing the fuel tank so to speak. Keep up the good work.

Of all the electric cars I've seen this is far and away the best looking, but I wonder why we hear very little about hydrogen powered. That surely is the answer, and even possible to retrofit to petrol engines.
VW argues there’s no point using electricity to isolate hydrogen then transporting it when you can just use electricity from the grid.

Tesla Model S is just "boring" (in terms of design) by comparison. Tesla needs ot upo their game on asthetics/interior... no question their tech is class-leading, but Audi just know how to build solid cars with great interiors.

RS GT a much better option. Both eTron and Taycan allow options Tesla only dream of.
Since there’s no S anytime soon, comparing the three of them is interesting. Everyone mentions Plaid but it has 5 options and costs £130k and probably won’t arrive before 2023….
There are lots of things I’d love on my S (waypoints anyone?!) but Tesla are more interested in gimmicks like games rather than useful options.
@@zoyaspencer8025 No one is copying gimmicks. Everyone is coming out with solid features. Tesla needs to wake up. My S feels every inch of its ten years old despite being under three.
@@ruaraidhmcdonald-walker9524 but the Taycan and Audi are less efficient in terms of watt-hours per mile, they just have bigger batteries to give them any sort of comparable range. They can only use the public charger network, whereas your Tesla can use any charger. Having extras available would be good if the base car were comparable but it isn’t. What’s interesting is that Tesla future competition comes from Lucid, Rivien, Sony, and the generic Chinese EV. Note what’s missing are the traditional makers. They have sat on their hands, actively tried to stall the EV revolution and deserve the beating they’re currently getting. My vague guess is that traditional automakers won’t be around in 25 years because they have dealer networks to feed and you don’t do that with a car that doesn’t need service! They deserve it.
@@ethelred2648 They both have smaller batteries than Model S.... I've had the Tesla three years. I know what it does and what it doesn't do. When you're spending 120-130k on a car, it's about more than just the technical aspects. Lucid is ace and Atieva are great guys but it's unlikely it'll be over here soon and the same charging network issues apply. Tesla's SuC advantage only holds if they don't open it up to other manufacturers' cars which they have discussed doing very recently. Both the Chinese and Koreans are very impressive indeed. Change is coming but the EQS and upcoming EQE are also impressive..... Lots to see, exciting times!

Not driven an EV yet, but we now have a Tesla centre near me, so I'll tick that box at some stage.
The only electric cars I’ve driven are Tesla model 3, all 3 models. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever driven. When we are in a place to change our cars, Tesla is the aim……..

“Sure the batteries are great” … and that’s the basics of an EV. Settling for a 3rd rate version just because you decided that Tesla is the Apple of cars. How odd. The efficiency of Teslas is above anything else, the infrastructure is unparalleled, and the cars awareness of the infrastructure is awesome. But it’s ok, you don’t want any of that nonsense, you have a car that can only use the public chargers and zap map. In your case ‘anything else’ is just a perverse choice. But they’re a lot less money i guess.

@@ethelred2648 battery isn't everything. I'd gladly sacrifice couple miles of range and have a better looking, better built, more functional car. And dont even try to mention self driving....it's not even legal and i don't really trust it yet anyway

@@abraxastulammo9940 but they don’t. There are persistent rumours but the cost per KWh will be higher for off-brand generic EVs. And the short cable from the supercharger won’t reach any car where the connector isn’t in the rear lamp. And can you imagine the free publicity Tesla will get from photos of off-brand EVs having to use the shiny line of working chargers with Tesla writ large. I think it’s funny.

I criticise Tesla plenty, but the truth is they are better at most aspects of an ev. Try and watch through and understand where I’m coming from. The audi, as I say, is in its one way a brilliant car.

You can have several reasons to hate Tesla, but I think it is all the wrong reasons!
There are a lot of good reasons to dislike Mach-e:
1. It is build in Mexico because of cheapest possible labor. If you are from USA this should really hurt your feelings!
2. It is build by a company that through the last 100 years have done everything to pollute our world. If you really care this is important!
3. It isn't produced using environmental friendly methods.

1. I am from the Philippines, which is okay if an american car is made in Mexico or not; thus my preference towards the Mustang Mach-E.
2. Henry Ford already invented an electric car with a help of Thomas Edison more than 100 years ago, same goes for Ferdinand Porsche.
3. Ford found a partner for battery recycling, which is owned by a former Tesla enginneer.
4. Super Toilet.

Elon has a rocket business that runs on fossil fuels.
Not exactly good for the environment, the worst form of transport in terms of emissions.
Has a tunnel business that uses tons of concrete, which is also very bad for the environment.
The majority of the world will be getting Chinese made Tesla's... The world's most polluting country.
