      P I am definitely liking the device so far. It's absolutely amazing for such a tiny little thing. It has given me back some Independence on a few things I could no longer do due to my visual impairment. I think this is a device that should be given to everybody who is blind or visually impaired free of charge. From either the state or program.
      Just like you said when I go to a grocery store I can just be able to help and not just be a standing statue in the aisle.
      I know I was limited on showing the device off on this video but when I make the actual review I'm going to have actual video footage of it been operational. And we'll be close up pictures and stuff like that for everyone. I'm going to make it an ultimate homework assignment. LOL thank you for watching

      It definitely makes a difference. The only problem I've had so far is that I entered my wife and my kids into the orcam so when we're at the store every 5 minutes it will tell me they're close by. LOL definitely an improvement on my shopping skills though. Thank you for watching

      Well thank you very much I waited a long time to get this device in my hands. So far I think it's worth the wait. It's a nifty little device.
      So far I was able to play a card game with my family with no problems. I was able to read menu at a restaurant by myself and order my food by myself, I was able to pick up a book and start to read. I've been reading my mail with it.not that there's anything good in the mailbox to read. LOL
      Thanks for watching and I hope you watch when I come out with a full review. This was just a rant and rave video.

    so many times my wife asks me if I can pick up something in the grocery and most of the time I either come back empty handed or with the wrong thing.. and the picking up everything just to see what it is.. yea, i do that as well.. great channel, glad I found you Brian

      Great that's awesome I thought I was the only weirdo that picked up everything at the store. It's like a game to me. LOL
      Definitely check out Sam from the blind life he does to great videos on this device. what school is you can even read those aisle signs that tell you what's in the aisle from like 20 feet away. Definitely a tool to make our lives much easier at the stores. I used it to read a menu at a restaurant and ordered my own food for the first time in about a year. I was able to play a card game with my family which was amazing because I have not done that in a year as well.it's always nice to get back something you have lost even if it's only a few things. Just wish it knew how to drive a car for me. LOL thanks for watching and definitely look into the device. when I do my full review video I'm going to make sure there is a lot of video coverage on the device and I'm going to go through every little thing I can. I'm going to scrutinize this device Pick-A-Part but so far I am loving it.

      Well thank you very much you and everybody else are also well deserving of a product like this.
      All I need now, is the big Green egg. LOL
      I decided I'm going to start doing some Crock-Pot cooking so that my wife has a hot meal when she gets home from work. We are going to the grocery store to get ingredients and I'm going to use the orcam to read off the recipe.
      there is a few things you made that I am really intrigued by on the grill so those will be coming next. Just keep making those amazing videos. Thank you so much for watching the channel.
      Also, I loved the interview you did with Carrie. You are very outspoken and was very easy and pleasant to listen to. Did not have a problem listening from beginning to end.

      well thank you for this awesome comment. So far it is been good the only negative when it comes to games as the battery tends to die out pretty fast because you're constantly using it. But with the added battery pack it makes it a little easier. But I will see after a month how this pans out.
      I have learned the device is amazing in so many ways however it does not replace a CCTV. I will definitely be picking this device apart and finding out all the good and all the bad I can find from it and giving a as true as I can review on the product. However, even with its flaws the positives outweigh the negatives. This little device is amazing. At least that's how I feel today we'll find out how I feel hey my next review. thank you for watching my friend always looking forward to hearing your comments.

    Can't think of a more deserving guy, with a big family and a young child, to have received this kind of support from your specialist! You've got me started thinking about different directions I can take for adaptive technology. I'd started off trying to maximise my remaining vision, but now am using TalkBack to do my reading on my phone almost 100% of the time now instead of just for teeny tiny text. I also have been trying to read on my loaner CCTV, but frankly it's mentally exhausting and strains my eyes. Now I'm to the point where I'd like to have some kind of Talk|Back for my desktop PC but haven't learned anything about that yet. I would still love some kind of device to help me see my artwork better, but as far as reading goes I now like the robot woman's voice and find that much easier to follow and learn from than my painful reading four words at a time. Only took me six months of being too blind to work to get to this point of acceptance of not being able to read the way I used to!

    • @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674
      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You and I have the same story. I have an old black-and-white CCTV and I can only read at Folsom up to three letters at a time so I don't even bother trying to read. Unless it's only a sentence with a male trying to see where it came from.
      I have tried the esight glasses magnification and all other electronic devices trying to utilize what vision I still had left. I always felt defeated very disappointed at the end.
      So when I heard about the orcam I knew that it was time for me to just accept my vision loss and just try to make my life a little bit easier through accessible electronic devices I don't work by trying to make my eyes better the work by try to make my life easier. So far the orcam has been that perfect tool.I truly believe that this device should just be given to every blind or visually impaired individual. Free of charge because it does give back some Independence no matter how bad your vision is. And this technology is only getting smarter every day. I did not say in the video but if you point to like a table of just a whole bunch of people no text or anyting it will literally tell you how many people are sitting at the table if they're male or female and even tell you if they're older or younger. It's pretty crazy and very accurate
      Also, when it comes to your computer there is a program that is 100% free. It is very similar to Jaws which is a talking software for your PC and this program is called nvda it comes from Australia. I have it on my computer and it's made so that you can use your computer completely free of the monitor it takes a lot of practice but does the job just fine. if I look at my screen for more than 10 minutes my eyes start to feel like they're being sawed out of my eye sockets. No joke! That's why I went from 2 videos per week to only one. I tend to switch from narrator on Windows 10 2 nvda they're both very easy to use with commands. There's a million TH-cam videos as well on nvda to look it up.
      Hopefully my reply has helped and you are an amazing friend Mel. Thank you for your kind words I'm so grateful to have gotten to know you. My amazing artist friend from Canada you are my favorite Canook! LOL'

    I have a few apps on my phone which can sometimes do a few of these things well and sometimes not. I think glare and other lighting can make a difference. I got KNFB reader app shortly into 2016 and was amazed at how well it worked and that it worked without me having to have internet at that time, on my iphone. An update happened and about a year ago and has practically rendered it useless to me in all the important situations I had needed it for. Files that I could easily find right away by date order are like finding needles in haystacks. I used it to photograph serious documents that no longer just open up and read. It was a really expensive app to be rendered so unusable so quickly. However some apps that I recently got for nothing to test out, have filled in part of the gap without needing to be internet connected. I wish the KNFB reader could be restored to its former glory and work with iOS 12 as well as it did before the complete disaster of files, and unclear button functions, burying the useful buttons that clearly used to work very well. I am with you on not liking these apps to be only available over wifi internet connection, particularly when they didn't need that before. I have a light probe app that suddenly after all these years artificially "requires" internet now. No reason for that. I know sometimes there are legitimate reasons for some apps, but not several others to force internet data. I have not used facial recognition in any of these apps yet. I miss the kolorami app, although I can still use it on my older phone that stopped updating with iOS 7.12. It would give mixtures and percentages of colors, so I could tell when my socks or another article of clothing was fading and would no longer work in a monochromatic outfit. Shades of blue clothes can really change drastically as they fade so that they no longer match other items they had exactly matched before.
    I think it seems like a good thing the orcam has going for it is steadiness. My hands are never steady, but I can hold my face steady pretty easily. I love the Voice Dream Reader app, but can see how it would be really neat to stand in a library and point and turn pages of any book spontaneously! Smiley

      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely loved this comment. You had so much to add and it was all very intelligent and worth listening to.
      I definitely thought about all the apps that are out there that do a lot of the most similar things. However, what orcam has that most of those apps don't is accuracy. And it really makes a difference when the camera is on your head versus you having to point your phone camera. It's just more accessible when it is on a pair of frames. I could be walking around the store turning my head left and right and it will just find a friend or somebody that I have in the contact list on the camera and it will tell me in my ear so I know when they are approaching. To me that is absolutely amazing all in itself.
      When it comes to colors I will be honest I've only used it a couple times so far but it has worked every time I have not tried using it in different lighting situations though. So only time will tell
      I have used apps on my phone for trying to play card games and it just is such a pain in the butt all the time that I just gave up and trying to use apps. The orcam made it so much more simple it was absolutely amazing. That is probably the best thing that's working was given back to me yet the fact that I could sit at the table with my loving family and play card games again. I don't need to have someone sitting beside me telling me the answers or what my card say. I can do it all by myself and it whispers to me through Bluetooth headset.
      I tried playing with a CCTV in the past but they're big and bulky and time-consuming between turns. But I can say that the orcam does not replace a CCTV. It can but the only reason I say it can't is because you would have to costly turn it off turn it on booting up takes a while it's just not proficient in that aspect. but if you're using it and you have it on purposely already it will read anything you throw at it large print or very very small.

      Well thank you for the belated birthday shout out. I did know I messed up on the battery info. But as you know editing as a visually impaired or blind individual really stinks. So I just left it in there figured people would just understand. I wasn't feeling filming it for the 20th time. I always do so many takes before I get the one I like. Get to the point I forget what I was saying and I forget to say things I've already said in past takes. Thank you for letting me know though. Shows you care about my channel.

      I don't know if I mentioned it in the video but it is the same size of your index finger. And it just attaches with two magnets to the side of a pair of frames on glasses. You can even attach them to sunglasses as the kit comes with three or four magnet connections for several frames.
      I know I did not go to in-depth and I apologize. It was purposely though as I am going to do a full review video. I will have actual video footage of me using the device and talking about all its features and going in-depth weather it is really worth it or not. But I can assure you right now there's only two things I don't like about it and the good outweighs the bad. This device so far is amazing.
      I hope within 30 days I will have a new video on this device and it will be the full review. I will do the best I can to describe it to everyone. I'm still learning with each and every new video I put out so thank you for bringing this to my attention.

      @@TheBlindTreasureHunter well I appreciate that but I knew after I uploaded it that there was certain things I should have talked about but forgot. and then there was things I didn't want to mention as I didn't want to give too much info and make the next video seem like a repeat.
      I've been craving metal detecting like no tomorrow just so you know. There is a location about 15 minutes from my house they used to have a carnival for like 30 years. It closed down in the 40s. I've been trying to get my butt over there to metal detect it but life is not let me yet. I'm hoping to get some old coins or some military buttons as we have a lot of those here in New Hampshire.

      @@TheBlindTreasureHunter I have only found an old silver Canadian coin has the biggest best find yet. I did find a molten piece of metal on my mother-in-law's farmland and it rang up as silver but I don't think that's what it is. I have not taken the time to check it but it is a very small piece of metal. There's a lot of horses around that area so it's probably just sludge. Thanks for replying to all my messages. And good luck to you when you actually get out metal detecting.
