Yes! Support groups are so very beneficial. There weren’t any in my area when I went blind, so I started one myself. We only meet once a month but, it’s worth it! Thanks Vincent!

I think that is awesome that you started your own group. This is a lesson to be learned by all of us. If we can't find the help we can make the help. thanks for watching listening to the video and thank you so much for being a great friend and leaving this awesome piece of information for all of us to hear.

I live in Japan (with RP) and have just started venturing out. I went on a one night bus trip to a hot spring resort, a 3 hr cooking class, a field trip to a museum, and just a couple of days ago tried blind table tennis. Never thought I'd play ping pong let alone blind! Good thing is that there are a lot of different groups for the visually impaired in my area. And I learned how to get to the venues thru o and m training so I can get to the meet ups on my own. Like you, I've met all kinds of (Japanese) VIPs from all walks of life with all different types of diseases affecting vision. When meeting them, I feel a deep sense of compassion. Some can see more than I could. Others see less. Nevertheless, I feel their pain. Whether you're rich, poor, young, or old, vision loss is a tough predicament to accept. Mariko

It was a pleasure to hear these things you say. I love Japan I think your country is so beautiful I would love to go there one day.
Is nice to hear that your pan has so many opportunities for the vision impairment blind. Is completely true and no matter how rich or how poor or whatever your background may be through vision loss you find we are all still the same at the end of the day with so much in common. Human emotions are still just human emotions at the end of the day.
Now, I have to say I am completely jealous of you my friend. I don't know if you watched any of my other videos on my channel but I am a huge video game collector even though I cannot play games as much anymore. I still collect and know you're in Japan makes me jealous. You live in the video game collecting capital of the world. If I ever do go to Japan one day I'd have to bring two extra empty bags of luggage with me. Lol how to fill them all up with video games you can't get in America.
I hope to hear more comments from you my friend. you ever want to chat about anything you can email me which is in my description portion of the video or I will just look forward to hearing a comment from you here and there. God bless you and your family. I would love to hear about how programs for the visually impaired and blind work in your country compared to the US. It would be an awesome topic.

It seemed like about a year from when I was stopping driving, and trying to figure things out on my own and caning before I knew there was anything like Commission for the Blind. I had no way of finding other blind people, until then, and a bus driver introduced me to
my closest friend. Of course I had no computer or internet either though. However that friend I met, taught me everything I know about computers and mobile phones❣️🌟🙏🏻

If it was not for the fact that I tried to get a white cane through the wrong place I would have never known about the association for the blind either. I would have just moved on with my life and never had the chance for support groups came training or any other opportunities.
I am so glad you had made that friend. But I still would recommend looking up a group in your area with her be from Facebook or through the state. It's always good to meet more people that know how we feel and it's always good to make new friends. thanks for listening and watching the video have a blessed week

Hey Vinny, I am from Tibet and I really appreciate your awareness video. I was very much drawn, when you said we are all one. Indeed we are human being first, sadly in todays world people are so much focused on secondary difference. Keep up the good work and keep promoting the awareness of not only LHON but the one-ness of humanity, lack of oneness is more deadlier than any other disease

When I lived in Florida, I started losing my vision. Having my friends was good, but they couldn’t relate to what I was going through and how I was struggling.
    So I left.
When I moved to Seattle, it was then I met other blind people in support/advocacy groups and learned about tools that would help me. Especially from my boyfriend. He has taught me a lot of how to navigate the world being blind.

You were right Vinny, I love this video and it’s message. The strength that we draw from people who have had similar experiences, especially site loss because it is so profound, well that strength is invaluable and something that you really can’t get anywhere else. That is the beauty of this TH-cam community and I found it to also be true when I, against my own will, was forced to attend the school for the blind and eighth ninth and 10th grade. After the first two days, I didn’t want to leave because everybody was so like me. Attending the seeing eye institute in New Jersey was really a life changing experience because we had a couple of characteristics that were all the same,. In this video you have explained so many ways that a VIP can connect and how important it is. It is so cool that you had the VIP weekend away because that is an experience that most people with site loss never ever get. Even the deep sea fishing adventure is one of a lifetime, except it’s an annual event. How cool is that. We just draw so much information and strength and understanding from each other I think. This was a phenomenal subject and one that our community needs to embrace Great video once again and I wish you a very happy and blessed weekend. Love, Beverly

Thank you for being so understanding. I am grateful that you got the experience to have had the opportunity had a younger age to meet so many cool people similar to your awesome amazing self.
I know for me it made a huge difference because I felt like nobody could relate. But after going to a couple of those pier support groups and then going to a tech group I felt more at home and felt that I was more understood. Now these people that I got the privilege to make friends with call me from time to time and I call them as well as see them in person once a month.
The best part of the whole deal is on top of that I have good old TH-cam and all my amazing friends here as well. It's like a ginormous glob of glue all around me keeps me together. I love all of you you are all my dearest friends. Thank you Beverly for your awesome comments as always because you're the smartest bama blind individual I know. Lol

I don't think I would be in as good of shape with my vision loss if it wasn't for the amazing people I haven't met and got to listen to on TH-cam as well as in real life. Groups no matter how you get it whether it be social media or personal interaction Is all effective. The love I have and share for all my friends here on social media and my peer support groups are no different. I truly love you all. Including you Jason and it's not just because you're a Star war nut. It's just because you're awesome! Have yourself a very blessed weekend. And I hope to be on your next live video. Hi Vincent Great video x I wish I had a support group like this. I have been 3 times and they say we will send out letters or call you to be invited to the next session not had a phone call since April this year . Lucky Tracey from the council for the blind and visually Impaired trained me with my cane etc she came to me when I became registered severely blind.

Tony, you need to go on Facebook and look up groups that may be in your area or your town. I did not even know that I had one in my town in my town is very rural and in the woods. Lol
Nachos to association for the blind do these peer support groups. There are many ways to get in touch with people so don't wait on a phone call. If I have learned anything nothing in our lives get better unless we do what we have to do for ourselves first. We wait on others sometimes nothing gets done.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a blessed week.

Wish there was a support group in my community; I know there are a few of us here, between myself, the guy who always whales on the van with his cane when he uses the crosswalk, and a friend of mine's wife who is losing her detail vision as well. How can I find a support group. I called the School for the Blind and they were no help whatsoever. I live in Arksnsas.

    • @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674
      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  ปีที่แล้ว

From your comment, I got the fact that you called the school for the blind. Not sure if that is different from an association for the blind. Most states in this country has an association of some kind for the blind/visually impaired. Those are the people that you want to be in touch with for white cane training, peer support, groups, etc.
I looked it up for you, and I was able to find three associations for the blind in your state. One being in Little Rock, Arkansas. Called world services for the blind, and I found another one called alpha point association for the blind, and the third one being national Federation of the blind.
The one in Little Rock has the best reviews on Google. You can always try calling them. World services for the blind phone number 501-6 64-7100
The other one was Alpha point association for the blind phone number 501-983-0540
And the third one was national Federation of the blind phone number 479-435-8348
World services and alpha Association are both located in Little Rock Arkansas and national association for the blind is located in Springdale Arkansas.
The only other solution I could think of on top of my head is going on Facebook and finding a support group in or around your area for The blind/visually impaired.
Good luck, and I hope this information was helpful. Can always comment down the road another video letting me know if you were able to find anything.
