I have heard a lot of the comments saying that the price tag is super high. well I thought I would pin this comment so let you know there's ways to get this device for free.
You can either do a GoFundMe, or the association in your area may have a program that could get it in your hands for free, and there are always families and people generous and kind that donate to people who need. In other words what I am saying is don't just assume you cannot own it. That's what happened to me but then it fell in my lap. I was very lucky and I thought it was a million to one odd but then I had a friend who also had one fall in their lap also. So if it happens to more than one person there's a good chance it can happen to you as well. Good luck to everyone Don't ever think anything is out of your reach.

@Crystals Texas Randomness well happy Thanksgiving to you also. I hope you eat lots of amazing Thanksgiving food and Spanish food. I am already jealous of the food your family will potentially make. Although, at my house we have a nice mix of Italian, Greek and American. So everything from your mac and cheese to cheese pita to lots and lots of pasta salads. Yum yum cannot wait. I have to say though the day after Thanksgiving is always the best part of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving sandwiches y'all!!
I noticed you changed your channel title. Does this mean we get to see the infamous crystal behind the camera. Yes, I'm going to keep annoying you with this question. Lol
This is what I want for Christmas to unsolve the mystery. Hahaha have blessed holidays

@Crystals Texas Randomness no worries Crystal I totally understand. and it's really just kind of an inside joke I thought between the two of us. I don't need you to send me a photo through email.
I am almost certain you are a very beautiful individual inside and out. But remember we can always chat through emails regardless. Even if you were to show yourself in front of the camera the chances of me seeing you clearly are very slim anyway.
When there are things in videos I do want to see better I cast them to my 70 in television in my living room. This is the only way I get to see certain things and even that is still not clear.
And I do not understand how you can have haters. are these people who know you or just trolls online. Because those people are just tend to ignore. They don't know me so why should it bother me. and I spend enough time making fun of myself as it is. Wait till you see the video I'm uploading in about 30 minutes. Lol I make fun of myself just fine in that one. But when it comes to you and your personality you seem like an awesome individual. I have considered you a friend since the first comment you sent. No haters over here. I keep it 100

Nice! I hope you got it for a good price. It's the only thing about the orcam. I didn't like the price! And the color recognition. Lol.
I just put mine away and it's bag. Won't be needing it again till probably tomorrow. Also,
Make sure you download the app on either your phone or an iPad. Makes a lot easier to get into the settings and set up your Wi-Fi.
Believe it or not I just found out about the app. Just so used to just taking out of the bag and using it. It also has a feature in the settings where you can find your device. If you lose it. It'll make your orcam chime. Good luck and enjoy it! Had mine for a couple years now and still works.

Well don't be scared just embrace it. Just remember I got two more videos coming so if there's anything you're not sure of or how to do I will surely be here to show you.
There's only one thing about this video that really made me a little weary of uploading. In one part I say it reads randomly every second in a crowded place. I was kind of exaggerating and that doesn't happen all the time. But you'll learn this for yourself. I was going to re-clarify my next video. Just remember you can always email me or contact me through messenger if you have any questions.
Just make sure you truly enjoy that device is going to be a game changer I promise. What the best part for me was the fact that my eyes were taking so much less strain due to the fact I had this device whispering in my ear what it was I was trying to look at. It won't replace everything but it's definitely going to help in the aggravation department on day to day life for all of us.
I'll tell you ahead of time though before you take it out of the box. Make sure you set it up to Wi-Fi again if you don't know how just message me. but the video will be up two weeks for that. This way if that device is not fully updated you will get the full updated version because now it has Bluetooth. It didn't have it before you can hook up a wireless headset to it so nobody has to hear it talking. It's actually pretty amazing when it comes to playing a card game. Like apples to apples.
Also, or cam does have a TH-cam channel so make sure you subscribe to that. The only problem is it takes a million years to find the instruction videos for English. There's so many languages. But there's videos showing you how to connect the Wi-Fi and everything else. Enjoy your or camI'm so happy for you. I just wish all of us could get one for free. Cuz yes they are pricey. But you will be amazed how much tech is in such a little device.
Oh yes, and one more thing Mel, I know how stupid is going to feel to have that lanyard attached to the device but I truly and highly recommend you keep it attached. Cuz that little device is going to fall off your head at some point. It's just a given. if you have that lanyard around your neck you don't have to worry about it in the floor. Don't get me wrong it stays firmly attached to the glasses without problems but we as clumsy individuals sometimes might bump it while doing something and it will detach from the magnets. So just be careful!

Hello Vincent my good buddy. Well, you did an AMAZING job of this video, and I know how much work will have gone into doing this! I think some people think its just a case, of phone on, video, upload and thats it (thats what I thought very naively at first lol )
I love my Orcam. I have had it for about a year I think. When I first got it, I didn't use it a whole lot for many reasons, one being, I felt ridiculous with it on - but, I was very new to my sight loss then, and everything felt ridiculous to me lol. Now, I dont think about it too much. I agree with much that you have said, and came across many of the cons you explained too, but, like you, the Pros, certainly outweigh the cons.
Re the battery life, that really was the killer for me in the beginning. I had EVERY function turned on, and as you say, the device is continually scanning for everything, so the battery life is the points in that instance. I then started fine tuning what I actually needed in terms of function, and that made a huge difference. I dont use facial recognition at the moment, because I find that most people that I know, if they want to talk to me, or get my attention, they will say something along the lines of, hey Terry , its Liz , how you doing etc. I loved playing with facial recognition though in the beginning, and it was great, but, I think I used it more as a gimmick than a need.
I then did exactly as you did and bought an inexpensive charger, and that keeps me going throughout the day. So, as you said, there is usually a way around the cons, just takes a little thinking about, and whilst not ideal, you get to where you want to be.
I used to forget the Orcam every time I damn well went out! Or if I did remember it, it would have forgotten o charge it - but, the charging isn't an issue now, and most times now, whenever I go out, I just hang it around my neck on the lanyard. I have the original glasses, which I kinda like anyway - but, I also put a clip on my dark glasses, so I can just clip it to those quickly if I need to.
It is a great aid to have for sure, and I even use it to read the screen of my insulin pump, which is awesome. I use it for so many things.
I was sooooo excited about being able to read my own menu, instead of having my partner or friends to read it for me, as that was my greatest bug bear about loosing my vision. But, my god, I got all excited, and we went to a restaurant, and for the first time ever, I had my own menu in front of me, and it felt amazing. HOWEVER, the restaurant wasn't greatly lit, and I looked down at my menu, totally excited and expectant, and suddenly, it was like a I had set off a floodlit football pitch! he lights came on, and I whipped that orca from my face as fast as I could. It was a nice almost romantic type restaurant, and suddenly, I felt like everyone had stopped talking and was looking at this floodlight at the side of my head lol. I haven't really tried it much since unless its a very well lit place during the day. I turned the auto lights off, but, as you say, in dimly lit situations, it doesn't do great. Oh, I laugh so much now when I think back to that time!
I also use it through my iPhone I can't go over to the dark side (android) lol. Just couldn't do it haha
I think you do need to practise to get the most out of it, and the optional lessons that you can pay for at the time of ordering is great, as you get a personalised training package on a 1 to 1. But, the instructional videos on the user part of their website is very good.
Anyway, I will stop talking now - as you know, I am a man of too many words haha.
ake care my friend, and I very much look forward to your other Orcam videos - truly an amazing job done
    Terry
    x

      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Terry, you are never talking too much you and me I think if we had met in person we could be brothers we act and talk so much alike. Lol
This is a very informative comment that I hope a lot of people take the time to listen to. It's nice to know you agree with a lot that I said and just like you I took all the faces out of my memory on the device. It was more of a nuisance and annoyance for me but the fact of the matter is it still does work so I had to add it in there without any cons. I think it's just a matter of preference at that point.
this is exactly why I wanted to make a three-part video series. There's just so much to talk about and so much to show that it would be a million years long video if I did it in one sitting. I actually had over an hour of ranting and rambling video footage and I had to cut and edit all the way down to only 26 minutes so there was so much more I was saying. but who's going to sit there and listen for hours I would not do that. Lol
But I do think this device is absolutely amazing. I love it when I don't forget it. Hahaha thanks for listening and watching the video Terry always a pleasure to get your very long comments. Long comments are the best comments.

The hands free aspect of it sounds pretty nice. I have the KNFB Reader App which worked very well for reading so many things and far off as well, when it first came out. I think somehow the developers changed and it is almost useless out and about, where it was becoming a "go to" thing. I spent a lot on that for me. Thankfully a lot of newer apps have come out, which perform various reading tasks in its place. I still like Kurzweil 1000 on my old desktop computer with an old Canon scanner. It also lets me convert braille files. You are right about Color Tellers being tricky and hard to find accurate ones. Lighting makes big differences. I used to take a poll of several people in a store asking them what color a piece of clothing or shoes were. Every person sees colors a little differently, and many are various types of color blind. It was interesting to get an idea of what color I was buying from an assortment of folks. One friend of mine sees and describes colors very similar to myself, and I used to ask him when he still lived here in town. All our years of hanging out at arts & craft stores paid off. Reminds me I need to check on him again long distance. I suspect his ISP is not working at the moment.

    • @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674
      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I have to say my biggest struggle lately with my vision was has to be color vision. My color vision was still intact when I first started losing my vision. But after about a year my color vision started to fade. I still see colors however I am extremely color blind now. Red is burgundy, blue green purple all seem like the same color. Etc.
I was kind of hoping that the color indicator on the organ would work much better than it does. However it's not a complete loss just got to take the time to practice and have patience. If it doesn't work the first couple times usually the third times the charm.
It's always good to get in touch with old friends. Make sure you do your best to get in touch. Thank you for watching and listening to the video as always great to hear from you and have a blessed week

I am so happy for you! Legitimately and honestly!
I feel confident that it's going to make a big impact in your life. And you know the old saying better late than never. Lol
Just make sure you go to the store and you purchase an external battery pack. Do not buy the one that or cam offers. You can get them far cheaper at the store just a regular one that's made for charging cell phones. The cord that comes with the or cam is just long enough it should be able to fit in your pocket connected to the battery. I just run the cord through my shirt and I can turn my head and everything. You will definitely love the orcam. It's a great feeling not to have to try to rely on any little vision we still have if any. Takes a lot of the stress away as the or cam device works so flawlessly most of the time. It is not perfect by any means but the good outweighs anything negative I have to say about the device. Enjoy! And God bless thank you so much for your comment

Hey Vinny, this is an absolutely outstanding review of this product. As you progress through the video I was developing questions in my mind and each one of those questions was systematically addressed in this video. I have lived with vision loss for so long that I have gotten over the idea that, any device I use, might look odd to someone else. Are used to be so, so self-conscious because I was brought up during the years when, disabilities of any type were just not acceptable. I even had a guy recently tell me that he believed that people in wheelchairs should not be out in public. Thank goodness those kinds of people don’t discourage me but I do feel very sorry for their own lack of compassion and insight. I think that if I were fortunate enough to have one of these devices, I would probably get a very positive reaction from people who I encounter., Kind of like the reaction I get with my seeing eye dog, Gretchen. People are just amazed at the tools and technology that we, the VIP community, use, because they are not aware of such devices and that a allow us to perform normal daily tasks. I also learned a long time ago that people tend to immediately think, how would I survive if I were like her? If I were using this device, a guide dog, a cane and just being myself, maybe people who see me would now think, oh! It isn’t that bad to be blind, look at the technology and tools that are allowing her to just get out and be like everyone else. Just ordinary, right. You really did a fantastic job explaining both the good and the not so good, the pros and the cons and this is really a cool device for most any severely visually impaired person to try. Thanks for taking the time to not only learn it but explain it in such an understandable way. Hope you have a wonderful upcoming week ex

@@bamablind9916 Believe it or not Beverly, a few of the doctors at Boston Mass general or Mass eye and ear actually asked me for my contact information. they want me to do future presentations of the ORCAM device for them. And I said most definitely I will do this for you guys. So it's only a matter of waiting for the call. It has been about 6 months no word but who knows maybe they're just waiting for summer.
I would be more than happy to spread the word and help others as much as possible. But these presentations I'm pretty sure were for other doctors. Well, I understand that it's hard for you to get certain help where you currently live. But there is good news. You have the internet so what I suggest is do your research. Learn all the tech you can with what you have at your disposal. There is programs in the world that will help you for free to learn Braille and maybe even give you a free cane. I don't know how factual this is for you living in the Philippines but you never know. It's always good to ask, ask ask.
Look up Hadley's school for the blind and see if you are too far to apply. I have a friend who lives in the United kingdom and he was still able to apply. They will teach you Braille for free. Through the mail. It's worth giving a shot to look into. Then, there are also places that give away free white canes for the blind. As long as you can prove it with a doctor's note or signature. On Google just type in free white cane. Then ask them through email or through phone if the Philippines is too far to receive your white cane.
These are just suggestions but there is so much out there for the visually impaired and blind and we unfortunately being of that minority never even know about it. I will do my research also for you my friend. If I find out anything I will let you know through another reply on one of these comments.
Although I can't make any promises I know it doesn't hurt to try to figure it all out. I am always willing to help. Have a blessed week and have a great day.

I am sure you are using dictation on your phone. For example you were talking and it is hearing you and putting the words down for you. What you are not doing is using punctuation.
I am just telling you that your phone when you're done a sentence just say period at the end of your sentence. This way you will not have runoff sentences any longer. I hope you do not think I am making fun of you I am just actually helping you because all of us as visually impaired and blind people at first do this same thing.
You can also add other punctuations just by saying them out loud at the end of a sentence or a word. If you say new paragraph at the end of a sentence your phone will automatically skip a whole line of text so you can start a
      New paragraph.
I have only been visually impaired / blind for less than two years and I have learned quick through TH-cam and friends. I am now a champ with talk back and narrator. You will be also don't you worry. Normalcy will be coming back your way in no time. Also, check your phones camera for something called Google lens. It's usually under more options on camera mode or you can get it from Google play store for free. This will allow you to read documents. Like eye doctor appointment paperwork etc. You just open Google lens, then swipe to the right until your talk back highlights text, click twice, then, take a picture as best you can of the paper or document then double-click to take a picture. Then swipe right till you hear select all, then double click and it will start reading all your documentation out loud. I am so happy that you are learning new things your phone will end up being your third arm. Good luck and if you ever want to ask questions you can email me. I am always willing to help. My email is under the description for this video. Just find the top right corner underneath the video feed title there should be a more option. Click on that then just touch the description and talk back should read it out loud. Good luck God bless talk to you again soon

The charger that comes with the device has a special type of magnetic connector.
I think they made it that way so that you would have to buy cables through them. But, it's been a while since I have investigated any of these wires /cables. Something might have come out since then. Sorry I'm no help there. I do know the cord that they gave me is of good quality and it has worked ever since I have owned the device from day one. I have had no issues. And it's long enough to fit from my device on my glass frames right into my pocket connected to a portable battery.

    • @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674
      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for your comment, I will do the best I can to answer your question.
This device is very expensive. And yes, I personally feel that the newer models will just make it more pricey down the road. The reason things for the blind are so expensive is due to the fact that our market is much smaller than say Sony selling a pair of glasses with speakers attached. We're blind, so they don't look at production numbers like other companies do. So when they build these devices they have to up their profit margin to make up for on sales.
Do I think this is a good excuse, no, but this is what I have been told.
Also, should you buy it now or later, that is fully up to you however, there is ways to get this device in your possession for absolutely free!!
Especially, if you have time on your hands and don't need it ASAP. Take full advantage and be very, very verbal. Be verbal with your doctor, be verbal with your primary, be verbal with your association for the blind, you would be very surprised what is out there for us being blind / visually impaired that we do not even know about. Her grants, they are fundraisers, they are just good God abiding people willing to help others.
When I received mine I was blessed enough to get it for free. And it was all due to the fact that I was verbal about it. My low vision specialist did not even know this device existed. I told him that I wanted to own one of these down the line in the future but they were just too expensive for me currently. He ended up looking into it on his own free time and found a way to get it for me for free. 2 weeks later I get a phone call that I was to receive this device. And the funds came from a lovely family that donated to the hospital. I was blessed by good people and that's how I got my device. I did not beg or ask in any way shape or form to own this device. Just was very verbal about how much I wanted it.
After telling the story to friends in my association for the blind, more than two of them came back to me months later telling me that they also received this device for free by just being verbal. Either through a fundraiser, or a donation.
So, do you want to buy it now totally up to you. I do know that my device can no longer do some of the things the newer versions can do as they make you pay for updates. But mine does exactly what I need it to do. So buying the newest device with all the coolest features doesn't always make a huge difference. Sometimes it is better just to pay less for the older model. But again, it is totally up to you and your own personal decision if you want to buy it now or later. Do I think the device is worth $4,000. Personally I have to say no, our phones can do a lot of the things this device can do however it gives us the benefit of being hands-free. It's the feeling of feeling independent again.
But that's not me knocking the device, I still think it's worth owning due to the fact it did make my life much easier. I don't use it each and every day especially now due to covid. But now that things are calming down we get out more and I tend to forget to bring it with me. Lol plus I have an amazing wife that always reads the menu to me. But I need to start being a better husband and bringing the device out. Give her a break. Lol let her be mentally conscious about her own appetite. Haha
I hope I was able to answer your question. And hope to hear more comments from you in the future. God bless and may your week and your weekend and every future day after that be an amazing one.

There is two different ways that you can charge your or cam device.
Both ways utilize the charging cord / cable that comes with the unit straight out the box.
First you can use the cord and plug it into a USB outlet or to a USB adapter for the regular outlet on the wall and let the or cam charge for at least two hours.
Second, you can use the same cord out the box and plug it into a USB portable battery charger. This will not only charge your orcam it'll keep it at full charge while utilizing the battery life that comes with the charger itself. In other words you could get in full 8-hour work day depending on what portable battery you're using.
      Hopefully this answers your question.

Thanks for your question so I'll do the best I can to answer it. It's been a while since I got my or cam and I was blessed by Boston Mass eye and ear hospital donating this device to me. I did however go online and look it up for you and currently is a $4,500 device still, however!! You can nab it for around $3,500 after instant discounts.
But I will tell you like I've told so many others, no matter your situation in life no matter where you're from what country etc it does not hurt to speak your mind. Speak up and you would be surprised what can come your way. I received my or cam just by sparking a conversation with my low vision therapist. I never asked for a single thing just told them about the device and how I'd love to own it one day. Lo and behold 2 weeks later I was told it would be mine. In other words I'm stating talk to your eye doctor, talk to certain programs like the associations for the blind near you and you never know you could get lucky. I can tell you this I have three friends close to me that I have told this to and they all received an or cam for free. So that is stating the possibilities are there.
I still even after making these videos for a year later enjoy my or cam when I use it. I will admit I do not use it as often as I used to do to covid etc. But it is a staple and a good tool in my toolbox. I still think it's worth the money although I do feel it should not cost as much as it does. Good luck and I hope you have a very blessed life. If you want something bad enough it will come your way. This is my opinion but I feel strong about it.

The last time I checked I'm pretty sure it was $4,500. But don't let this deter you because you could always try to get it for free or by payments.
I was blessed enough to get mine for free. And there is nothing special about me compared to anybody else. I just opened my mouth to my low vision specialist telling him that I would love to own the device one day. He had no clue what the device was so we got into a conversation about it.
2 weeks later I got a phone call telling me that the doctor was able to get the device for me for free through an amazing family that donated to the hospital. I did not beg for this item, I did not ask anybody to purchase it for me, but I was verbal about it and good things come to those who wait and are positive.
Contact your association for the blind nearest you, tell your doctors, tell your specialists, and you never know there might be a program, a charity, or some kind of payment system that would work for you.
I have said this a hundred times and I'll say it again, even though I like the orcam device and I still use it from time to time, I still don't think I would have paid this much money for it. Is very pricey. And I am not a rich individual. I hope this comment helps you. And I pray you get to own this device if you truly need it. If you want something bad enough it will come your way some way somehow.

    • @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674
      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you completely!
However, unfortunately, that's what we get with any technology to do with the blind and visually impaired.
Most companies claim as far as I can tell that they make everything in low production so the costs are higher to build the products we need. They claim that far less people purchase these items so they need to charge extra to us. I find this to be a little bit over the top. Most of these companies are thinking about profit. Not all but most! I don't understand why certain types of devices should be so expensive. Take this or cam device for instance, it should be given to anybody who is registering with the association for the blind or the state to make their lives a little bit easier. They claim they want to sell to go back to work yet we have a hard time getting these things because they're too far out of our reach when it comes to money. I have a feeling in time devices are just going to become accessible right out the gate so these companies like Google and Facebook etc are going to make more devices and mass produce them at a far cheaper price and they're going to do surprisingly a lot of the same things that our devices for the blind do right out the box. The world is waking up to us.
But I would like to add one more thing to your comment. Like I've said to many others about this device I was able to get it for free. Call me lucky call it fate I don't know but what I can tell you is I am pretty sure I got it because I spoke up and talked about it till it was blue in the face. An amazing doctor and mass general heard my talk heard my plea and made sure I got it for free.
Like I tell everybody else nothing is out of your reach. Whether you're religious, pray for it, whether you just have faith in general feel like you already own it. Eventually, it will come your way. Just got to want it. Just like anything in life you got to want it to get it. Don't be afraid to speak up talk to your doctor about it see if there's some kind of program you do not know exists. There might be a family looking for an individual just like you just as a family was looking for an individual just like me and they will donate it to you.

I also have a friend that did the same thing talked about it to a doctor and got it for free. I guess there's programs out there we don't even know about. Even in other countries like Australia, New Zealand etc. It was great chatting and I hope the rest of your month is an amazing one. Hopefully you go out there get a scratch ticket and win thousands of dollars. God bless

How did you get it to read Greek? I live in Costa Rica and have English and Spanish but there are no other options.

Well, I never set it up to read Greek. What happened is I was at my Thea house and she had a Greek magazine sitting on the table. I picked it up to see if it would read it and it did. She was amazed as well as I. So mine did it right out the box. But if you go into settings there should be way more languages then just two. Make sure you are fully updated as well. If you need to update it should automatically update by plugging it into the charger. But make sure you set up Wi-Fi first that you can do by going to settings and following the instructions on the PC.
I will get back to you because I will look into this for you. But go to the or Kim website and there should be some info there. Remember, this device was made in Israel so it’s made out the box to read multiple types of languages. I hope you figure it out before I get back to you. And I hope I was enough help. And I am so happy that you on this device. I’m sure you deserve it. God bless enjoy your new year
