    This is the route we took with we started my BBR Stage 2 Turbo. Since we are making 300 wheel/~345 crank horsepower, the ND tranny wasn’t up to the task. I hear the new trannys (2022/2023) are able to handle more power but probably not what I’m running. Cool video and I can’t believe you did this in your garage. PITA getting the tranny lined up without dowels on the BBR adapter plate.

    365th sub, had a ND miata myself when i was 18, maybe going to buy one back :) (i blew my airco 10x on 1yr, perm leak, mazda never fixed it)

    Great video, subscribed 👍. Good to know that the shifter feels even better than stock ND one (didn't have a chance do drive the nc).
    Is the abarth diff LSD? (edit: i see it is)
    I thought about supercharging my 2017 2.0l ND RF with lsd diff (i have 80k kms / 49k miles on it, still first transmission without issues) and electronically limiting the throttle position in 1st and 2nd gear to not exceed factory torque output at the gearbox to not shred it.
    On the other hand that may not help depending on what the root cause of the gearbox failure is - from what I read and heard some suspect it may be caused by lack of rigidity in the gearbox housing. Heard about a guy that had his gearbox internals reinforced somehow (Shot peening or sth else, can't remember) but it still failed on the track.
    I'm bit torn between boosting the nd, swapping the gearbox and diff VS leaving it mostly stock and saving up for Lotus Elise as an extra car to mod.

    They made multiple revisions to the nd transmission n its alot better now apparently.

    Great stuff , thanks for giving the details on what you've done so far and how much it cost for you.
    I am also looking for changing the transmission on my ND2 and it was good to know that the LSD is also a subject for replacement. Btw this gearbox conversion set is also can be ordered from BBR in the UK.

    Couple of questions:
    What about drive shaft and half shafts? Have you reused the ND ones or you got the NC ones?
    Do the diff mounts fit 1:1 between the NC and ND diff housing?
    Did you reuse the ND PPF?
    Is the shifter position with NC gearbox the same as with the ND?

    Say i have an ND, but in Auto, would the same methods apply? Of course I may have to find a new pedalbox.
    I'm thinking of when the ND is eventually discontinued, as sadly in my country everyone who bought an ND bought an AT, and I'm still saving up. A swap may be my only option for a manual.

    Awesome summary about this issue. Did you also use the Flyin' Miata trans removal tool? That alone is $399 but they claim without it is a huge pain in the ass. What do you think?

      I pulled the ND transmission by myself with quick jack, and a transmission jack. Its a pain because you have to do it at an angle and also rotate the transmission but its not that hard. If you have a full lift that device would be useful on a pole type transmission jack.

      I agree with the reply to this comment. Takes a few more hours and difficulty but saves you $399. The transmission is only around 130 pounds so its not incredibly heavy.

    Great video. the same route for my hks supercharger build. Did you do nc1 or nc2 trans? A lot of the ones i see are 5 speed.

    Why not put on an rx8 differential 😅. Nc Miata guy here. We put rx8 parts on our plateforms for more reliability. And to push more performance.

      nd might be slighty different from nc for mounting points, shafts etcetera

    did you use a fiat 124 automatic diff or manual transmission diff

      I used a Fiat 124 Abarth LSD. I believe it was out of a manual car.
