Sway bars are specifically intended to address body roll. They also have the nice side effect of allowing you to fine-tune your oversteer/understeer balance easily.
I have Rays ZE40 17x7.5 wheels but have not bought tires yet. Would you recommend 215/45r17 or 225/45r17 size? I don’t track the car so more emphasis on daily drivability/comfort.
You won't notice any difference in drivability/comfort going to wider tires. If you want to keep the car fun for street driving stay with 205, it makes it much easier to break out the rear end in corners at lower speeds. The wider you go the more grip you have, so the more speed you can carry into and out of corners. This makes you better in track, or close to the limit driving, which you shouldn't be doing on the street. 205 section tires will give you enough grip to carry speeds well in excess of the posted speed limits on US roads; going wider will push those limits out even farther. If you're driving on a track, that's great! Your times will absolutely improve with wider tires. On the street you should absolutely not be worried about times. 205s will keep you more honest with what's appropriate for the road where there are so many variables you can't control, and keep the car fun and carefree. Improving the handling of the car with suspension upgrades, (sway bars first, springs/coilovers second) will eliminate the sloppy/floatiness of the car and actually improve your driving experience at all speeds and in all situations.
@@jgalt99 Thanks for the info. Wouldn’t 205 on a 7.5 inch wheel be stretched a bit though? Stock is 205 on a 7 inch wheel. I thought stretched tires means a more firm sidewall which leads to a less compliant ride (but more immediate turn-in).
@@LegoBuildersMOC It will be stretched a bit, but I don't think you would notice a difference on the street. I run 215 winter tires and 225 summer tires, the 215s are on a 7in wheel and the 225s are on an 8. They both have the same feel on the road until you start pushing the corners, and then the difference is night and day, but only in terms of grip. My suspension mods made a much bigger difference in terms of handling and feel. You could run up to 225s on a 7.5 without any fitment issues, and the major difference in street driving you'll experience is grip. On the track more grip is faster corners and always better. On the street it just depends how you drive and what you want. Many people regret losing the slightly slower but more fun feeling of having the stock tire width because you can easily out-grip your torque in a Miata with wider tires.
