Great content Brian as always! It has been several years since I’ve painted but this surely motivates me to jump back on the several projects I need painted. Pondered many, many times just to take somewhere to get done and even top dollar jobs I’ve seen are yielding average results. Two thumbs up for sharing your tips and knowledge!

Sir, thank you so much for the detailed steps. You answered so many questions I had for prepping and primer that no one else seems to answer in their "how to" explanations. I even took a Continuing Ed paint class that didn't give the tidbits needed that are in your video. Thanks again. I have 3 cars that need paint/bodywork and can't afford to pay someone to do the work. At least I can confidently get them to the primer stage confidently now. 👍

Can't describe how much I enjoy your videos. Biggest question always have is what's the air consumption? I'm stuck with 110v and run a 30gal 5scfm and a 6gal 2scfm hotdogs on another circuit both connected into a 20 gal holding tank. I want my next investment be gun (so I have a good reason to watch 10 of your reviews again) but i think another 30gal compressor my be what I should do. It's only a hobby I beg neighbors and my kids to ask their friends if I can paint their cars!

Good luck mate. If the clear is flaking off you might want to sand all the clear off because if it's flaking in one spot it's probably going to peal everywhere eventually.

If there's portions of clear fading on an already old car, why does it make sense to keep any of it on if you're doing a full respray? Isn't there a risk of that clear failing over time?

For that’s and reason I sanded all the clear off most every part of my old dodge before I’m respraying. It’s obviously already old, dry and bad. Might as well not stack on top of stuff that is “almost” old dry and bad. It’s just more work 🤷‍♂️

Quick question if the clear coat is starting to peel should it be sanded down to the bare metal or just sand the clear coat off? Also if I still have a clear coat intact then what do I sand down to? Hey Brian love your work brother, I'm in Australia and I have a project where i need to color match a bumper and a hood which are dark charcoal grey and i need to change them to a black pearl to match the car....also the roof has faded paint so i was going to respray that too...my question is.....can i just sand back the bumper, hood and roof with 380grit then 600 and then just spray the base and then the clear or do i need to apply a sealer or primer before laying down the base coat...? (no bodywork or repairs are needed) Thank you so much for all your content, really enjoying it and thank you in advance for your response...! PS can you do a short video on all the paints you use from primers, sealers, base and clear, including what thinners, hardeners, reducers etc. you mix including why, and the difference between 1k and 2k, water based, solvent based and what is the difference between all of those paint technology systems...!
    Again Thank You Brian...!!

I really like your videos because they're very informative. The think I hate is that you touch the surface with your bare hands (like when you mentioned that the primer was dry). Even if you wash your hands a lot it still could have body oil on them, unless you wash your hands with MEK (you wouldn't have much skin them!!). Thank you for the videos.

I have primed and block sanded and guide coated my car 3 times and I am confident that it is very straight. What do you do if there are some very, very, very small edges that got sanded through to bare metal. They are so small they are the width of a small needle. Do you get out the primer gun, mix a little bit more primer and try to spot prime those very small areas. It seems like I am going to be chasing my tail when it comes to these very mall break throughs to metal. Any input would be appreciated and thanks!

Question for the group? I prime, 2 coat base paint but I probably made a mistake by waiting until the next day to paint my 3rd coat. I started spray painting and notice the wet paint start to peeling off it seem like if I put a paint remover. I did sand paper to fix the spot, I spray paint to even up the peeling. What you think cause the peeling? What is the best way to do 3rd coat of base since I am not doing it all the same day? Would have more issues on my clear coat 1 and 2nd coat? Thanks in advance.

Brian, I sprayed some some PGG- Shop Line primer 2K surface and it turned to be very rough (feels like 60 grit). I think I know what the problem was (high temperature and maybe low primer flow) but the question now is if I can still keep it after sanding it.

I am looking into purchasing the east wood prime roll on kit. My question is do I just use the epoxy primer on the bare metal or the hole car? Also is it OK to use other brand name paint over the east wood primer?

I have a 1988 560sel, N1NOBRWN part II in my playlist, that was apparently a victim of tree sap on the driver side quarter panel. Some of the spots got to metal and have formed surface rust. What would be the best way to sand it evenly and prime it to get it protected from the elements.

Scuff and shoot over solid paint is no problem. With metallic I believe you’d want 600 or maybe 800 to avoid showing scratches, he’s said it a bunch before but I forget which.

How would you go about fixing edge mapping after the primer is sprayed down? I ask because I thought i had featheredged properly but I can see some edge mapping underneath the urethane primer surfacer.

on the rougher side around 13:45 into the video when you sand it with 180- do you then smooth down to 320 or do you spray primer straight onto 180?
