    In theory, the Fumoto valve is a good idea. I’m leery, however, that if the vehicle is low enough, the value can catch on something and trip the valve open, or worse rip it off and damage the oil pan. Another scenario is a smart-ass kid in the neighborhood can crawl under the car at 3:00 am and flip the Fumoto lever. I’ll stick with the tried and true OEM oil plug. With the Fumoto valve, you don’t know how far the Fumoto threads thread into the oil pan. If too far, you’re not getting a full drain of the oil pan. Another reason why OEM oil plug is best.

      @Adam-cm8nk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have some good points of reasons not to use it, but your fear of someone flipping the lever is quite a reach on both the intelligence and car knowledge of a hoodlum kiddo. I hope you don't wake to find bologna on your car, and a tire decompressed with an unscrewed pen.

    Like how you mention all the safety tips - I've worked on cars for 33 years and watch a lot of these videos and few people cover the safety part - had a car fall on me once, completely my error, but obviously survived - Great Video.

    Love Fumoto valves. Have them on all my cars. Position it so the built in locking tab is on the top or to the side as you had it and get the additional locking tab that they sell. Don't leave the oil filter cap off all that time unnecessarily ! Only loosen it to equalize pressure initially and remove when actually filling. Hate for something (leaves or whatever) to fall in there while you are draining oil etc. great job Juni!

    Thank you for posting the DIY. It was very helpful.
    My only suggestion to further help the DIY'er is describe where to locate the drain bolt is as well as the oil filter relative to some major landmark. For example while shooting video, "Looking underneath your car from your front driver's side tire, if you look X inches toward the center of the car and Y inches from the bottom of the front bumper, you'll locate the oil drain bolt".
    Of course, the owner's manual (which I don't have in front of me) might have a schematic that may also prove to be useful. But most of us prefer to have our tablets / smartphones to watch TH-cam to review the DIY ... not the owner's manual.

    I prefer ramps on a LEVEL surface, and I still use a block on the back wheels.Fumoto valve on Ebay was $26.95 with free shipping currently the cheapest I found it.My 2014 is the Fumoto F103N . This has the nipple like on the video and you can attach a plastic hose from it and run it right into a plastic jug. They work great and are reliable and eliminate a lot of oil mess.

    I have a 2006 Corolla LE. I have owned it since new and if it helps, you don’t need to jack it up. I do mine on a level surface with the wheels chocked and it works fine. And you can still get all the oil out. I also measure out 4.4 quarts beforehand (this is the actual amount called for in the owners manual) so it always gets to the perfect level on the dipstick, especially with a factory oil filter. Also, I like to fill the oil filter up with oil so the car doesn’t have to run to fill it up potentially starving the engine of oil. And oh, I’ve used a Fumoto valve for the past 10 years on this car. It helps a lot! 👍🏼

    • @wutdadilyo
      @wutdadilyo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Sliwerski thank you for your comment. Yes I do know that the owners manual says 4.4 quarts but with the fumoto valve you will always have a small amount of residual oil left in the pan. The way to get out the residual oil is to pour new oil in while the drain is still open to keep all the oil fresh. It is good to fill the oil filter but not necessary as you are not starving the engine of oil since you don't start the car until you have put at least 3.5-3.75 quarts of oil in.

    • @matthewsliwerski6036
      @matthewsliwerski6036 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juni S. Thanks! And very true, there is a little oil left with the valve but it’s truly immaterial. I know this as I’ve poured about four quarts of dirty oil back into the Mobil 1 jug and you can see the measurement in the window. And if you are changing your oil religiously, it doesn’t seem to affect it. My car is 12.5 years old at this point (built 12/05) 😊. Cool trick to get the old oil out though. I just like to keep it easy I guess 😄👍🏼.

    The spec for the oil capacity amount was updated by Toyota. This particular engine now holds 4.4 quarts of oil. You can purchase the updated oil dipstick from Toyota, or you can put a mark on your original dipstick exactly 18" down from the center of the o-ring. This will reflect the "full" level and should be exactly 4.4 quarts.

    Good idea with the drain valve...

    • @wutdadilyo
      @wutdadilyo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Marcin Dąbrowski its definitely cuts the time down when using the drain valve. There are concerns that a little bit more oil is left in the pan using the drain valve but this is a corolla. This is not a Subaru STI or a Mitsubishi EVO where have some old oil left in the pan may be a bit more of a concern.

    Learned several new things here too, Thanks Juni! And here's an idea for next time; many Corolla door stays, is that the right word; fail and allow the door to fall back on you when your digging around in the back seat, or front for that matter, sound familiar to anyone. It cost and arm and a leg for a dealer to fix it, but is it one for a DIY'er? Juni perhaps you can help us....much appreciated. Rs

      No not at all. You may have an issue with your transmission or engine motor mounts. You'll probably need to do some further investigating to find out why you have a vibration. Check your tranny fluid first to make sure that low fluid level is not causing this. If not then it could either be something in your tranny or your torque converter

    according to my knowlege, we should keep the car on straight level and leave the engine run for a few minute to heat up oil and mix the oil, than we should check engine level.

    How do you discard the used oil?

    • @wutdadilyo
      @wutdadilyo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question. Usually since the used oil is gathered in the collection container that was underneath the car, the container I purchased from Walmart has a spout and I usually pour the old oil in the container to an empty plastic bottle with a cap (usually an amply windshield washer fluid bottle or empty 5 liter jug of previous oil) and cap it off. Then with the old oil sealed in a plastic jug I would bring it to any auto parts store like pep boys, advanced auto parts, or even Walmart and dispose the old oil there.

      With your old oil, you could bring it to any auto parts store (advanced auto parts, pep boys, auto zone, etc.) and they have free dumping of your old oil in the back of their stores

      Thank you! actually I didn't leave the old gasket, it fell off with the bolt when I removed the old oil pan drain bolt.

    It should mentioned that this is only for the 2.4 liter engine (and not for the 1.8 liter engine which has a cartridge style oil filter instead of a spin-on canister).
