  • This video is about How to fix the clock on your 2003-2008 Toyota Corolla. What happens is that the solder goes bad on both sides of all five resistors on clock's computer board.This video describes how to easily take apart different dash panels, open up the clock housing, and reheat and/or resolder the solder points on the resistors to allow to clock to function again.
    FYI: If the reheating of the solder joints do not work, you MUST apply new solder to the ends of all 5 resistors as shown in this video.
    Please be careful when using a soldering iron to do this fix.
    Hope you guys enjoy and let me know in the comments section below if this video helped you out.
    Parts Needed:
    1. Plastic Pry tool or Flat head screwdriver with taped end
    2. Philips head Screwdriver
    6. Weller Soldering Iron Model #: SP25NK

    I've had my '05 Corolla for about 3 years now, and the clock light is just now starting to go out. I'm gonna be working on it here soon. Like the way you present your work in this video, very clear and concise.

    I've been without my clock for a couple years now because I didn't want to spend the $400 on a new clock that every technician I went to recommended. I was able to fix it myself for $20. And I didn't need to add solder either. Thank you for this great video!

    Thanks, Juni. Would have never even tried if I hadn't seen video on this. Put up without a clock for couple of years. Also Wal-Mart auto section had 3M soldering iron with one skinny tip $6.77 , and plastic scraper/putty knife worked great as a pry bar. Thanks again, and stay out of trouble. :)

    Hey Juni S.
    You've saved me $200AUD from getting a replacement one for my 2003 Toyota Camry Sportivo ACV36R. I done this tutorial of yours to get my dash speedo/ digital clock lighting up and it did the trick.
    Whilst I did reflow solder to the resistors on mine, but also reflow the solder to the voltage regulator and applied IPA on the connector pins. Works like new. :)

    I followed all the steps and my clock worked again! However, after two weeks the clock went blink. I took it out and reheat the solders, pop it back in but this time it was dead. Should I consider buying a replacement part instead?

    • @wutdadilyo
      @wutdadilyo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Anna Yang If you've reheated the solder points and now the clock is dead, it is possible that you could have destroyed the board. Instead of buying a replacement part that will cost a decent amount of money, you could check your local salvage/junk yard to see if they have any. Most likely you'll be able to find one for cheap that you can just pop out and pop right back in. If you want me to help you find one, I am more than welcome to help as well.

    • @yajanna
      @yajanna 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Juni S.
      I haven't have time to look around for a replacement at the junk yard yet. However, when I start my car, the clock would turn on, then a moment later the time will fade away. This happened a couple of times after it went dead during that second time I reheated the solder points. What do you think is wrong with my clock?

With nothing to loose, I did exactly as shown in the video. Hit the solder joints with an iron. Put it back, turned it on and BAM! the clock is bright as it should be. So this trick works even if you have a clock that is too dim to see. 👍👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🍺🙏🙏

      Nathan Frazier corolla’s are the best! I have no doubt with good care your corolla will go to 300k + miles!

    I was able to do this on my 2006 and it actually worked! I thought I messed up too when I was re soldering everything. This is coming from someone that’s never changed my own tire or changed my own oil.

    Confirmed. This worked for me in 2018. However, I did break one of the plastic clasps that hold the clock main-body to the back plate (you'll see when you do it) so, I guess plastic gets brittle with age, who knew. One thing, be careful with the iron'ing, it just took a little. Just barely get the soder liquid, then back away. That worked for me. Great video, easy fix, Thanks!

    Hey man thanks for the video. I have a 2003 corolla and there are no lights on my dashboard. The only thing that illuminate are the hazzard and ac button, everything else has no light including the dials. I see that you were able to remove the fan control but left the temp dial and air dial on, do I need to remove them if I would like to install new bulbs in there?

    I hit my clock to ty and get it working the other day and punched it right through the back lol the funniest part is it worked for a second after that! But this is a lot more helpful, thanks!

    Awesome! The clock works as good as new, now! I actually went ahead and added fresh solder, but without this video I would have never known about the fix. My video game console modding practice finally went to use for non-entertainment purposes! Thanks a lot, man!

    The dealer wants $400 for the clock, no installation, JUST THE CLOCK. I bought the 2005 corolla new for my wife. Youngest daughter went to Westmont College and put 320,000 miles on it. Just gave it back. So I am going to fix the Clock . Comes on sometimes. Inside is like new. Buying new hubcaps, some door weatherstrip, Fog light covers, serpantine belt, new tires and a few other items. No dents and I am going to paint it original color again as soon as the summer heat subsides. Power sprayed engine and has a rebuilt transmission. Not a knock in the valves .. sounds like NO engine wear with 320,000 miles. Always ran AMZOIL synthetic oil in it. 34MPG. LOW registration costs and LOW insurance costs.
