I'm going to add to the chorus of folks saying that I come here for the voice overs explaining what you're doing. There are plenty of ASMR channels out there and they have their place too, but you've staked out your own spot👍
Definitely keep sharing your knowledge with us! I'm sure the people asking you to be quiet could just mute their device. But I have actually learned a lot from your voice overs.
I'm a textile artist. I don't do wood. But I love hearing how you approach your projects and your problem solving. And for that, I need the voiceovers. I love the grain, the visual textures, and the luscious colors you produce. Thanks, Jim.
Ever so glad you're gonna keep talking, those that don't often get wholesale copied and reposted either here or on other formats. Plus we love to hear you talk, explain your methods and thoughts. I also love your longer format, we really look forward to Friday evenings with your latest creation.
Exactly. And if anyone doesn't want to hear the voice overs, they can turn the sound off. Those of us who enjoy the voice overs can't add them if they aren't there.
No artist should ever listen to whining complainers. This is *your* show, you do whatever you want. So glad you want to give us full explanations! Thank you! (What do these complainers want, every detail of the universe under their control? Happily, not going to happen.) Anyway, stunningly awesome piece, love the foot, being a details fanatic.😊 Thought I could see some of the gold color a time or two... I think you outdid yourself with this one!😊❤😊
I'm not a woodworker, which is exactly why I like videos with commentary. I like to know what kind of wood you're using, the tools and their purpose, explaining your techniques, and how you fix mistakes. I like the personal connection you have with your viewers and that you talk about yourself. There are plenty of turning channels without commentary. Personally, I like to see more than two hands and a lathe.
I'm not a woodturner either but I love these videos. I love the ongoing commentary and little stories and smooth voice. Also love seeing videos of the new build. You are all into winter whereas I'm in Australia and in the northern part of country and it is becoming quite HOT🔥🔥🦘🦘also it is 2nd December. Keep it all coming mate, we are all enjoying your style and wonderful pieces, anyone not liking the commentary can turn the sound down and just watch.
Please never stop with the commentary. I am one of your "old ladies" that really enjoys you. Your teaching style is what I prefer. I have watched other wood turning channels, but I always come back to you. Although the absolutely stunning beauty of your work was the "hook" that caught me initially, I find your style of teaching us the how and why of what you are doing is certainly part of why I keep watching you. Your creative process, the "why" of how you do something is what continues to keep me entertained. I am not a wood turner myself, but I am definitely always excited when I get the Friday notification that you have a new video up. Please don't ever change this format, I have watched one of your non-talking videos, and while I enjoyed the creative process, I found myself looking for the same video with the talking as I didn't enjoy the silent one nearly as much. At any rate, I am sorry that this response is so long, but I just wanted to reaffirm to you that I enjoy being "schooled" by you even though I will never be a wood turner. Keep up the stunning work, you have a follower for life!! Take care, be safe, and as always, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS.
Don’t ever stop your commentaries. This is why I started to watch your channel and why I watch it so much now. I am getting ready to take my very first turning class. I don’t know how it will turn out, but I am excited to try. You have been a great inspiration to me. I am excited to incorporate designer epoxy in my work.
My husband Bigjgordon made it into the draw pool the last time, but sadly didn't win! My turn next! :D Also, he's probably going to make me watch this video again on the weekend because it's his Saturday morning ritual. I'm good with that though, because we love your channel. Cheers!
I too enjoy your commentary. When I choose to follow a creator, a big part of of it is based on personality. BTW, I worked at Home Depot for 5 years. Whenever I go there I always go in through the contractors entrance just so I can smell the wood. It's almost a comforting smell.
What another beautiful piece Jim!!! It’s just absolutely stunning with the colors that you chose. Don’t ever stop talking because I’m not a wood turner but I enjoy listening and learning from you! Have a great weekend and I’ll see you next Friday!! 🪵🪵
Each piece, every cut and turn, any choice of color with Designer expoy, is unique. You could start this project over 10 times over with the same components, and get a different piece every time. Every piece of wood has it's own fingerprint that comes out in this process and Jim, you help these pieces become what they were always meant to be. That is what I love about this channel. I love watching you bring these pieces to life. Even when the piece doesn't come out as you imagined, or you see some concern you perceive as a flaw or mistake in the piece during your process, it isn't. Each work is one of a kind; beautifully created. Fantastic as always. Thank you for sharing your process with us. Discussing your process as you work really gives us all a real look into the complicated frustrations and simplistic joy of your art.
Normally, I resist starting a video over 45 min but every time I watch one of these, I am amazed how the time flies by. Your voice-over is part of why I get so immersed. Thank you.😊
I watch your channel because you talk and tell us everything about what you're doing. I'm not a woodworker. However, I've always had a love for wood. Because of channels like yours and others, I've learned to quilt and refinish and fix furniture and antiques. If there was somewhere in my area that gave classes this would be another channel that inspired me to learn to turn wood and work with designer epoxy!
Jim, that is one beautiful wood! I love the hypershift as well. Your explanations are so clear that even those of us who watch, but aren't turners can follow what you're doing. Thank you for another great tutorial. Designer Epoxy
Love the hyper shift and how it compliments the wood grain! Absolutely gorgeous piece of art this week. Jim you have amazing talent and I'm impressed how these pieces talk to you on what shapes or forms they turn out to be!
Well Jim again you have proven that you're a true wood whisperer! The combination of designer epoxy and the elm wood blended to a stunning creation. Amazing job !!!
1. keep on being you please. 2. that piece is stunning as always 3. looking forward to seeing and hearing more about the new workshop 4. your in laws are wonderful
I don't get people who don't like the explanations. Particularly those people who don't do what you do. It's half the fun! 😊 Also: Elm+ black Designer Epoxy+ hypershift = LOVE ❤️.
Build Site Videos, yes! This hollow form is graceful and mesmerizing. I like that the dark resin takes its cue from the lovely colors, lines and textures you found in the wood.
Totally beautiful vase, and Jim don't shut up, your personality is part of what makes the videos informative and entertaining, some people are only happy if they are criticizing without a positive purpose 🤨
I don't care what others say, I like the voiceovers. I'm not a turner (I knit. 😁). So I'm watching you as I'm crafting. I also feel I'm learning something... There is one turner I watch that doesn't speak, but his pieces are more artsy/avant garde. This is absolutely stunning!! I love all the different grains. I'm running out of adjectives to describe your work. 😂🤣😂
I'm glad you were the artist to get this beautiful piece of wood. It's amazing. By the way, I am a huge fan. I don't do any wood turning, I'm a great- grandmother who just appreciates your gift that our Lord has given you.
Hi Jim please never stop your voice overs they are really useful and helps me understand what you are doing and what wood your using and tools. Nice to to see dawan the rock back. The hollow form is really nice, the colours are awesome. The Elm wood is really gorgeous and I love all the marks and grain, thank you for a great video. Amanda
Hi Jim, I’m glad to hear that you are not going to stop talking. I’m not a wood turner and I find it relaxing and enjoyable listening to you thinking through your pieces as you work, as well as your explanations. This hollowform is pretty and the silver black epoxy is great.
@@SpragueWoodturning Loved the video. And please don't listen to the people who say they hate the voice overs. They make my week. They can just mute it, I don't understand what their issue is. I find you delightful. Glad you're settling in okay! Welcome home. See you on friday.
I enjoy your talking. It gives me insights into why you’re doing things and some of your thought processes. I usually watch because I have insomnia and watching someone create something is soothing as well as satisfying. My creative art is writing, but I enjoy watching others create.
A beautiful piece, Jim. You are 100% right about the volume complaint. I don't listen to learn, I listen to understand your problem solving skills. As a wood worker, you're always running into different issues, and sometimes hearing how others fixed an issue gives you new ideas.
Whoever told you to not do commentary should be ignored. I am not a wood turner, but I learn so much from you. I enjoy your content and your beautiful works of art. This wood is so unique. I love it. :) Designer Epoxy.
Don’t ever stop your commentaries. This is why I started to watch your channel and why I watch it so much now. I am getting ready to take my very first turning class. I don’t know how it will turn out, but I am excited to try. You have been a great inspiration to me.
I am so glad Dwayne came with you, lol! I absolutely love the hypershift, so please don't stop using it. OMG! I love this piece, Jim!!!😍😍 Such character! Amazing beauty. This one is my absolute very favorite hollow form. Love, love, love this piece, Jim. Designer Epoxy!!!
35:45: looks like a black phoenix! This is a wonderfully complex and interesting piece Jim! The elm and resin work exceptionally well together! I agree…You could spend days picking out the interesting details of this piece of art!
Please keep on explaining your thought processes because that makes your channel excellent. This hollow form made me think of those large Chinese vases with the dragons on... I swear I'm seeing a dragon in the dark part of the wood. STUNNING PIECE. 🏆
I started watching woodturning on another channel...no explanations. While fascinating, I knew it had to take more than 10 minutes to turn and make a work of art. Once I found your channel, all my questions were answered. Thank you and NEVER stop talking!! Designer Epoxy
I’m glad you are not going to change your process of doing voice overs! I enjoy learning the details of what you are doing and why! I have learned a LOT from you!
You make it SO hard to pick a favorite!! Each one of your pieces are as unique as nature and so unbelievably beautiful ❤ Oh and PLEASE never shut your mouth.. I enjoy the explanations of what I only can wish I could do! Thank you for the free education 👍 Designer Epoxy
WOW ❤❤❤ Absolutely stunning. I am one of those people that lives to hear the explanations of your thought process. Otherwise I would be lost in what you are doing. I love that you kept the foot at the bottom. As I look at the finished product, there had to be a huge void in that piece of wood in order to get that "bowling ball" effect on the side. Just love it, Jim. Anxious to see plans for the new shop.
My grandfather used to say, "If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say nothing." I know zero about woodturning, and I enjoy the voiceovers. This week's piece is great. The hypershift, purplish, and silver look great. I kinda like the foot on the bottom. Looking forward to next week's shows. Excellent and don't change nothing.
As I am a wood turner that worked in the 1990's your explanations and techniques are really interesting as the tools and the use of epoxy are so different . Lovely hollow form.
Amazing and beautiful look with the Elm and hypershift. Love how you can determine the type of wood by its smell. I always enjoy your comments and sense of humor. You're a bus man and I'm always amazed how you find the time to create these beautiful works art!
Your commentary is important to someone like me who just likes to watch art being created. That "splash" near the top doesn't detract from the piece in my opinion because it looks like something flowing out of that "river" of resin at the top. Spectacular, beautiful, flawless job!
Very cool result, as usual, and like everyone else I appreciate your voiceovers explaining your process and troubleshooting, relevant updates, etc! I think the foot adds a flair of elegance to the finished piece, but it’s your work and you’re the artist, so unless people just stop buying your pieces, do what you love. That love shows in your work.
Each week you take something that looks like firewood and turn it into amazing art. Love your commentary and the personal touch. Another amazing project. I really like the footed vases! 😊
I love your videos and I love your voice-over. I've heard you say you were not sure about doing the voice-overs but I prefer watching your videos with them then watching others that just show what they're doing without explanations.
As I have said before I enjoy your explanation. Friday nights I get a wood working lecture with practical applications. Love this piece ❤. Designer Epoxy
Hey Jim! I'm a long time viewer and subscriber, don't comment often but have to say I've been a wood worker in the furniture and cabinet industry for 20+ years no lathe experience but I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate watching you every Friday I'm also a student of TH-cam university and you are definitely 1of the best professors! Cheers from Ontario keep up the exceptional work!
I enjoy hearing you think out loud and share why you make the decisions you make. Great color and grain. Liking the foot as well. With the bulbous shape of the main body, the foot adds to this design. Good eye to keep it. Beautiful piece. Designer Epoxy
I watch your videos because you do explain what you are doing through the voice overs. This is a beautiful piece, the black is great and the grain is spectacular. Thanks for another amazing video.
Beautiful piece, Jim. I love watching AND HEARING your thought process with your creations. Your voiceovers, along with your talent, are one of the things that set you channel apart from others.
only 15 min in and OMG, this is going to be spectacular! ... Keep explaining! That's a good part of why I watch your channel. =) I have not turned anything in 30+ years, but I sure enjoy watching and learning from you. With a piece like that its hard to make a bad decision, but, I agree with no box. Hollow form is definitely the way to go for it. Stunning piece!!
I think you made a good decision to make this a hollow form. I enjoy your commentary, too. Hypershift -yay! Beautiful piece. It's almost like the Elm grew around a bowling ball. 😊
It's an amazing piece. The woodgrain is stunning in it's variety. The resin with the hypershift complements it very well. Simply a one of my top 5 favorite pieces. As far as the commentary, it really adds a great deal to your videos. I'm not a woodworker so hearing about the nature of wood, the why and why not of the pieces, tools and resin choices really sets your channel off from the rest. Great job as always Jim!
I definitely think a hollowform was the correct choice, over a box. 👍Great piece. And I like the foot. I'm not a wood-turner, just a fan, and I like the voice-overs. It gives these videos a lot of personality. And I'm always a fan of content that helps others learn.
Another beautiful piece Jim. Keep talking, there is not a thing wrong, listening to you explain and contemplate what the project is in front of you. Designer Epoxy.
Jim, I think this is the animal piece. Every time I look at it, I see different animals. I love it. Beautiful. As usual if you hadn't mentioned the second pour, I would have never noticed it. It just all blends in. Thanks for your honesty. I'm sure your Thanksgiving was extra special being back home.
I think this may be one of my favorite pieces. I love all the figures and the character of the wood, and the epoxy color really makes the lighter areas of the wood pop. Also, I'm pro-foot! Lol!! Beautiful!
You have captured the color of burnt wood, like that piece you did out of your fire pit, with that designer epoxy color and it's phenomenal. And it's sets off that wood so well. I wish I had your vision for color
Really nice piece again this week Jim. Like you said, very busy with so much character. I agree with many other viewers, the voice over is a big reason I tune in every week. To just watch a block of wood spin around and a couple hands making it into something, well that would be quite boring! As a non turner, hearing you explain what/why you do things is fascinating! For those who don't want to hear you, like you said, they invented the mute button for a reason!! Although why you'd want to mute you, I have no idea! I enjoy your explanations, stories, experiences, and even your cheesy jokes!! 😂
To be honest, I was worried when you went to epoxy. Never been so wrong in my life! Definitely opens a whole new world of turning. Another cool piece, thanks for the videos Jim.
Regarding voice overs, I watch some turners that don’t do voice overs but I find them frustrating because I enjoy learning why things are done. Also, I tend to wind forward just to see the end results. I spend much more time watching channels that do have voice overs. So, kudos to you for holding your ground and continuing to be a learning channel.
Oh this is just lovely. That black with the hyper shift jus works it's magic. The Elm is very visually interesting. It almost has a liquid look to it. A fine turning once again.
Hi Jim, you carry on talking. I enjoy your videos, I don't turn but I love to see the process and I like to understand why things are done. Fair play you do explain very well. The vase turns out so beautiful it's so different all round it. Brilliant. The weather is wet here too. Take care.
Hey Jim, I for one appreciate your commentary, as I'm sure many of your subscribers do. And this piece is an excellent one, and yes the hypershift really looks good.
The voice overs are awesome! I'm definitely one of those people who started watching and subscribed because 1. your stuff is amazing and 2. you actually explain stuff in a way that makes it accessible to all walks of life.
I am not a wood turner, just a crafter. but i love your explanations! My brain needs to know the why behind things to fully understand so I definitely appreciate the details! Another beautiful piece!
I'm going to add to the chorus of folks saying that I come here for the voice overs explaining what you're doing. There are plenty of ASMR channels out there and they have their place too, but you've staked out your own spot👍
Thanks for that!
Don't ever shut your mouth, your explanations are a big reason why I like watching your videos
I completely agree! 😊❤
It gorgeous Jim! The wood with the black and hypershift were the best choice. It's amazing 😊❤

You make it SO hard to pick a favorite!! Each one of your pieces are as unique as nature and so unbelievably beautiful ❤ Oh and PLEASE never shut your mouth.. I enjoy the explanations of what I only can wish I could do! Thank you for the free education 👍
Designer Epoxy
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy the explanations.
Thank you very much!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
As I am a wood turner that worked in the 1990's your explanations and techniques are really interesting as the tools and the use of epoxy are so different . Lovely hollow form.
Thanks so much!
Keep on talking! Details are the main reason I watch your channel! I'm also a turner, and I appreciate the details. Awesome job!
Thanks, will do!
Amazing and beautiful look with the Elm and hypershift. Love how you can determine the type of wood by its smell. I always enjoy your comments and sense of humor. You're a bus man and I'm always amazed how you find the time to create these beautiful works art!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I like listening to your voice-overs, don't stop. Your thought process and reasoning are fascinating. Another awesome piece🎉😮
Thank you, I will
Designer Epoxy. Love how the pearling effect came through on the hypershift. Even better to hear the new shop build is plugging along.
Thank you very much!
Your commentary is important to someone like me who just likes to watch art being created. That "splash" near the top doesn't detract from the piece in my opinion because it looks like something flowing out of that "river" of resin at the top. Spectacular, beautiful, flawless job!
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Much appreciated! Thanks very much!
This is simply glorious. The color and Hypershift is fantastic, but the grain in the wood is beyond beautiful.

Couldn't agree more! Thanks
Designer Epoxy
I love the look of the foot on this as well as the knots. Don't change your style for anyone but you.
Thank you! Well said!
Each week you take something that looks like firewood and turn it into amazing art. Love your commentary and the personal touch. Another amazing project. I really like the footed vases! 😊
Thank you very much!
I love your videos and I love your voice-over. I've heard you say you were not sure about doing the voice-overs but I prefer watching your videos with them then watching others that just show what they're doing without explanations.
My voiceovers will always be here. Thanks
I am so happy that you found designer epoxy. It makes ugly pieces of wood turn into gorgeous pieces of art. keep up the amazing work
Thank you so much!
As I have said before I enjoy your explanation. Friday nights I get a wood working lecture with practical applications. Love this piece ❤. Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
I enjoy hearing you think out loud and share why you make the decisions you make.
Great color and grain. Liking the foot as well. With the bulbous shape of the main body, the foot adds to this design. Good eye to keep it. Beautiful piece.
Designer Epoxy
Awesome! Thank you!
I watch your videos because you do explain what you are doing through the voice overs.
This is a beautiful piece, the black is great and the grain is spectacular.
Thanks for another amazing video.
Thank you so much!
Beautiful piece, Jim. I love watching AND HEARING your thought process with your creations. Your voiceovers, along with your talent, are one of the things that set you channel apart from others.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy it!
only 15 min in and OMG, this is going to be spectacular!
Thank you very much!
The wood is amazing. So right; you can stare at it for days and keep finding new things. YOU are amazing; never lost a beat with your move. 💕
Thank you so much!
I think you made a good decision to make this a hollow form. I enjoy your commentary, too. Hypershift -yay! Beautiful piece.
It's almost like the Elm grew around a bowling ball. 😊
Thank you very much!
That is a very busy vase. Like the base, it is just right, so is the collar.
Nice job, it's awesome.
👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you very much!
I'm so glad you didn't decide to cut it... This is wild and awesome. Glad you listened to the piece.
Thanks so much!
I like when you explain and talk about what you're working. gorgeous piece, turned out stunning. I like the foot on it , gives it style
Thank you so much 😀
I definitely think a hollowform was the correct choice, over a box. 👍Great piece. And I like the foot.
I'm not a wood-turner, just a fan, and I like the voice-overs. It gives these videos a lot of personality. And I'm always a fan of content that helps others learn.
Thank you very much!
Keep talking this is why we really enjoy your channel. Love your work!
Thank you! Will do!
hyper-shift strikes again! the patterns in that big resin window are nuts!
Designer Epoxy
Thanks! I love it too.
Another beautiful piece Jim. Keep talking, there is not a thing wrong, listening to you explain and contemplate what the project is in front of you. Designer Epoxy.
Thanks for the kind words!
Our thanksgiving is different your, we actually had ours before we moved in Ontario. Thanks
I like the foot on this one. That hypershift is fantastic with the figuring in the elm. Beautiful vase. Designer epoxy 😊
Thank you very much!
I think this may be one of my favorite pieces. I love all the figures and the character of the wood, and the epoxy color really makes the lighter areas of the wood pop. Also, I'm pro-foot! Lol!! Beautiful!
Thank you so much! I'm with you on being pro-foot, lol!
You have captured the color of burnt wood, like that piece you did out of your fire pit, with that designer epoxy color and it's phenomenal. And it's sets off that wood so well. I wish I had your vision for color
Love the commentary. It gives us a chance to hear your thought process. BEAUTIFUL ❤
Thank you very much!
the epoxy stains look like some sort of mythical beast is about to emerge from the lines at any moment! I love it
You’ve got a great eye for details.😂. Thanks so much!
I'm glad you appreciate the voiceover. It helps bring the process to life! Even my cheesy jokes! 🤣🤣
So much character and natural detail in this piece! Spectacular!
Designer Epoxy
Thanks so much!
Once again designer epoxy and Jim creates something special
Thank you so much!
To be honest, I was worried when you went to epoxy. Never been so wrong in my life! Definitely opens a whole new world of turning. Another cool piece, thanks for the videos Jim.
Totally agree! Thanks
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Oh this is just lovely. That black with the hyper shift jus works it's magic. The Elm is very visually interesting. It almost has a liquid look to it. A fine turning once again.
Thank you very much!
Well done, Jim, another stunningly beautiful piece. Every time I watch you do one, I learn something new.
Many thanks!
That has to be one of the wildest crazy pieces of wood you turned. It's beautiful as well.
It’s pretty wild for sure! Thanks
Thank you Jim. It is soo relaxing and almost magical to watch the beauty of a piece slowly appear.
Thanks so much!
Hi Jim, you carry on talking. I enjoy your videos, I don't turn but I love to see the process and I like to understand why things are done. Fair play you do explain very well. The vase turns out so beautiful it's so different all round it. Brilliant. The weather is wet here too. Take care.
Wow, thank you! Appreciate that!
Extraordinary! I’m a hypershift lover. It adds such depth to the epoxy. Glad you left it in one piece. 👍
Thanks for watching!
Hey Jim, I for one appreciate your commentary, as I'm sure many of your subscribers do. And this piece is an excellent one, and yes the hypershift really looks good.
Many thanks!
The voice overs are awesome! I'm definitely one of those people who started watching and subscribed because 1. your stuff is amazing and 2. you actually explain stuff in a way that makes it accessible to all walks of life.
I appreciate that, I try my best! Thanks so much!
I am not a wood turner, just a crafter. but i love your explanations! My brain needs to know the why behind things to fully understand so I definitely appreciate the details! Another beautiful piece!
Thank you very much!
