The colors on this were amazing. And I want to tell you -- I'm currently on chemo. It causes brain fog. Sometimes I can't manage to follow the plotline of a show or movie, or manage to read or work, and I have to pass the time anyway. Your videos (going back 3 years now that I've watched) are the very best thing to cheer me up in those otherwise-dreary moments.
Jim Sprague, you're like that FRIEND who just comes and putters quietly when they know you don't feel like talking, but you don't want to be by yourself, either.
@@SpragueWoodturning Use a piece of rubertex hvac pipe insulation tube around the top rim to create a high spot so your epoxy does not flow over the top. It's cheap playable and comes in many sizes just test in vac chamber first.
Designer Epoxy. Incredible. I had no idea that epoxy has an expiry date. Lucky for us we have used up most of our product. The cost of the epoxy alone for this vase must be staggering. Someone will have a one of a kind piece to pass on for centuries to come.
Glad you didn't lose this piece! My son just loves watching you work and actually started mimicking you with his own tools. You're inspiring toddlers! 😂😊
I really appreciate that you take the time to inform any new viewers what you are doing and why. It helps them to make sense of everything you are doing. That's valuable and if anyone is interested in turning, then this is a real step up for them. I'm looking forward to seeing your new house and work shop.
@@susanholiday7347 Ditto, Susan! Thanks, Mr. Jim! I've learned more from you than from anybody. And the adventure of custom-building your new shop; it's going to be a blast (for you, and for all of us).
As a lifelong member of the Left Handed Brain League, I appreciate how you let a piece speak to you. I also belong to the Nearly Expired Resin Club as well, so this piece, to me, is PERFECT! And you're mastering color separation as well!! Thanks, Jim!! (Hoping lumber prices come down!)
I started watching you when I first got my lathe, I adopted the "speak to me" philosophy of turning and it has served me well. Thank you again for all of your hard work. I've been in the video production world for many decades and am cognizant of the amount of work that you have to do to get these posts up. Thanks again for all you do!
NICE SAVE!!! 😮 Very cool piece... it's kind of amazing that the best looking part of the resin ended up in the large area that didn't have any cracks. It'll be really cool to see the next intentionally cracked project.
Having no manual skills at all, I watch your channel purely for aesthetic reasons (I follow you explanations with interest, tough). And I'm spellbound by the beauty of every artwork you create. A joy to watch. And this work , too, deserves more than one likes. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I always hate seeing materials go to waste. Kudos to you for finding such a beautiful, creative way to use expired epoxy and wood cores from other projects -- amazing!
I love that you include your mistakes and problems. Learning how they happen, and how to fix them is valuable to me. Beautiful piece using Designer Epoxy!
That is definitely one of my favorite pieces that you’ve done. The gold was a perfect idea. It amazes me that I can think you can’t make anything more beautiful than what you’ve already made. Then you prove me wrong. That is absolutely beautiful.! But that doesn’t even seem to be the right word. Amazing.
Well, Jim's version of Van Gogh's universe ... looking through a cracked glass or stain glass window. Incredible! So glad this piece didn't fly & smash. Priceless work of artistry. Thanks for sharing your beautiful works of art, and waste not want not philosophy. Love it! 👍💓
Congratulations! The blending of the three colors of epoxy are gorgeous and, along with the burl and the golden Kintsugi highlights, make this a masterpiece. What a pleasure to watch it take shape. Your creative vision is a gift.
I have watched the vast majority of your videos from your first resin bowl on, and this piece is IMO the best I have seen you craft, especially when it was lit from within on the turntable. Made with epoxy that may have otherwise gone to waste. Awesome idea, turned into an outstanding piece. I've said it before and I will say it again and probably again. It is great that you show the mistakes made, what caused them and how you fix them. Sets you far above others I have seen. Great work.
Jim, you are the most humble genius of an artist! I had missed this episode as my workload is increased at this time of year. Such a beautiful conversation you had with this piece as it turned. The colors are my faves and the vase is so unique with the thermal cracking. ❤❤❤ this vase! 🥰
You outdid yourself on this one, good sir. Takiing what is considered a design flaw and making it work for you in such spectacular fashion is a testament to both your skill and your creativity! Bravo!
That has to be one of the finest resin pieces you have ever done. Hands down absolutely gorgeous! You managed to get the colors of the two cores into the resin in the middle, so they look like they belong together, bravo.
As an educational video, you always teach so much. I'm glad you don't cut out the difficult moments. I have learned a ton from you! Thanks for sharing your talents and experience. ❤
Long time no comment but I've been watching. Beautiful as always Jim! My husband recently started watching with me and now wants to learn how to work with epoxy and wood.
Another very awesome piece. The colors and burl are awesome. The Resin finish makes it really pop. It sure is beautiful and I'm glad it didn't fly off the Lathe either that would have been not good at all. Have a wonderful weekend and week until the next one. God bless
This is amazing!!! I love the colors you used!!! Blue is also my favorite color, but the but green color works well with the blue!!! Keep bringing us these amazing pieces of art in resin!!! ❤❤❤
Dear Jim, again absolutely stunning what you did with this expiring Designer Epoxy. This piece is great, the colors are absolutely amazing! Great Job, dear Jim, great Job! Many greetings from Wuppertal, Germany, yours, Wolfgang. 👍👋
We watched this earlier on tv. This was a great risk trying to make the fractures. It takes someone with your level of experience and talent to make it so wonderful!!
Oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh! I wish I had the money to buy this, it is SO wonderful! I am so thankful it didn't smash Jim, it is just a masterpiece! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love everything about this project! Reusing expired materials, pushing the boundaries of the medium, experimenting with no clue if anything is going to work. Awesome sauce. Can't wait to see the final results.
It's 4:34 in the morning, I'm full of noodles, and I'm watching a man make a vase. This is some good insomnia. ETA: by holidays, do you mean High Holy Days? This was only 1/3 of a kit, so about $80. Thank you very much!
The colors and interplay are incredible, it's like you captured a galaxy in a vase
Thank you very much!

Idea: Use the shavings from projects like this one, in clear epoxi, to both recycle discarded epoxi, and see the kinds of effects you can get.
I recently posted a recycled shaving piece. Thanks
You have surpassed yourself with this one, Jim. Just superb
Many thanks!
OMGOODNESS JIM! Hands down…THIS IS YOUR BEST RESIN PIECE! HANDS DOWN!!!! 😍😍😍😍 You have outdone yourself this time!
