Can't believe that nasty burl turned out so nice. Your a true artist. The color separation of the designer epoxy looks great. The googly eyes of Dewayne crackedybeife up. She hadn't seen them till now.
I have been working as a Park Attendant for 4 years. I have been cutting back branches way from elms, that keep growing around the base of the trees. These are future burls that are are a part of the trees reproductive system. I have seen were burls form when a branch has broken off and around the base of the tree. It's called cloning, look up the reproduction of the giant redwoods. If these trees fall over, new trees will start growing out of the trunk. As to the bowl, how I wish I could afford to buy it. It's an absolute jewel!
@@TheParkAttendant Me too.. I’m tempted to express an interest to buy it. But, I doubt i could !! afford it(?) I just want to look 👀 & look at it !!! It’s a true work of art!
Jim that transition at 11:19 to 11:22 i.e., from the end of pouring to when the epoxy was cured was just smooth! You even timed the ray of sunshine that was coming through the workshop! Coincidence or your videography skills have become as masterful as your Woodturning?! Designer Epoxy.
Damn Jim, that is one beautiful bowl!! The colours play off each other perfectly and the way they contrast with the wood. Glad to see the shop is coming along, like most construction, it's never fast enough.
Really love the finish on this. I understand the dust issues. Makes me nuts as well. Thanks for the extra videos on the shop. It's great seeing your progress
Gorgeous bowl, Jim! I love it so much, I'm contemplating how that would look as a paint job on my car! Yeah, I know, crazy but it shows you how much I like it.. 😅
Beautiful bowl Jim. Lots of colour. They really make the piece come alive. I don't think I would attempt something like that. I would probably end up getting hit in the head with the pieces flying off. You covered the technique that you used to help make it safe for the lathe. That is very much appreciated by all of us. Nice to hear that the electricians are there. I guess you will be moving in sometime in the spring, not when it is muddy though!. All the best and take care. PS: it is cold here with a very small amount of snow.
Looks Great! You should take a block of wood and bore holes through it and fill with dowels and /or epoxy then turn. Could look very cool. I thought the dowels actually brought something intriguing to the party.
It's great to be able to take an ugly piece of wood and add Designer Epoxy and colour to make a great looking piece of art. I use it all the time for my bowls and charcuterie boards. Well done Jim.
This gives me some Spiderman vibes with the red and blue colour combo. Love the busy textured look of the burl and love how you saved it overtime by adding those dowels to keep it from falling apart. Have a great weekend!
Glad to see you use the UV from Designer Epoxy. This bowl turned out amazingly awesome. I never thought of using dowels to hold a burl together. Nice job Jim also glad to hear that the power company is getting your new workshop connected to the grid. Won't be long now and you will be in the new workshop.
❤ it as always. I bet you really can't wait for your new clean room. Sorry about the battle your having with dust/heat issues. Have a super great day. Designer epoxy
Ohhh YEAH! The thumbnail alone gives hope for something beautiful and then we see the finished work from you, great! You have created something beautiful again! 🤘
It's beautiful. The hyper shift really shows. The blue in the crack is like a river running through a desert and the red is like a sunset. What's truly amazing is how the red dominates when the piece is back lit. The burl wood is stunning. The chatoyance and differences between the light and dark wood is perfectly highlighted. Amazing piece once again Jim.
Love purple and red combo colours with the hyper shift. The dowels will certainly be a conversation piece lol So glad you have power now in the new workshop!
Am amazed that that blank produced a great finished bowI. I like the purple but in my opinion the red is too great a contrast. It is really nice and shiny.
I love the hyper shift in this bowl. It really makes those colors sparkle and the wood grains are absolutely gorgeous. Another beautiful piece by Sprague Wood turning!
Beautiful piece. Amazing how once upon a time thus may have been an piece of wood meant for the fire and with some designer epoxy it turns into a beautiful conversation piece!
Love the many contrasts in this one. You have a contrast between dark and light wood, contrast between epoxy and wood, and contrast between the colours of the epoxy. The end result was wonderful!
Another great piece, Jim. I especially love the pretty purple manicure on the dowel 'fingers'. So glad to hear the electricians are in the new workshop. I think you are doing amazingly well in your temporary set up.👍
Beautiful piece! I find it interesting how you work. You take the foundational piece of burl and in this case the shape of the burl gives you an idea. Color choices and the hyper shift give the piece more character. How you shape the piece, more character. And all of this is happening in real time. You, responding to how it looks as you turn, until your piece and your vision kind of have a cross road. Where idea and physical reality come together. I love watching an artist work. Thanks for the videos and for talking about the challenges, and the solutions you come up with.
This is so beautiful & cool & it looks 👀 like cherry & grape candy! ❤ The birch dowels are like “fingers” that got stuck in the candy bowl Oh, How I Love this so very much, Jim! ❤
This bowl turned out really nice. I do like the colors and the personality this bowl has, bright and lively! Another nice piece of artwork! Designer Epoxy
Designer Epoxy Without it this piece of beautiful wood would have been nothing but firewood. That would have been such a lose. Very nice piece for sure.
I love it … busy is good… the more you look the more you see😄 So sorry you are working under such difficult circumstances… the new workshop will be very much appreciated ❣️
I like the way the big crack looks like a river running through a valley , and the red looks like a sunset over the mountains
Excellent description!
Thank you so much!
Honestly that's what I saw as well. It's incredibly beautiful..BRAVO. 👏👏

We have no elms. They were destroyed by Dutch Elm disease. DED was introduced into the UK from Canada. Named after the man who discovered it.

From one crow to another. I love shiny things too. Beautiful. You know I love my busy burls 😂😂😂

The dowels add a lot interest. The color combination reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog. That hypersift really popped. ❤

Yes, I’ve debated doing something like this but with different types of wood. Thanks
Yes, what would be extra interesting would be dowels of black walnut, white walnut and cherry. Probably a few more.
