I finally had the chance to show your videos my elderly father yesterday! He absolutely loved them. (I did have to fast forward for him a few times… he was getting anxious to see the final products. Lol). We sat and talked about everything he saw for hours. He didn’t know anything about Designer Epoxy so I told him what I’ve learned and tried to look up things he asked. It was an amazing day. He wants to teach me a few of his skills (I don’t know if he really can). So thank you! I just wish I would have recorded him talking.

  • @thesweetone

A pressure pot can increase the temperature in the resin, not always the case it is a factor. a vacuum chamber causes the resin to have a lower boiling temperature but helps with penetration. I think the minor cracks are because the wood acted as an thermal insulator holding the heat at that point while the open thick resin area just moved it out to the shop temperature. This is from my experience anyway. also i would suggest checking out rusty design and their slowq epoxy - never had any issue when i switched over to them and its made in Ontario (or so they say)

DESIGNER EPOXY: Don't you dare listen to the nay sayers, your voice overs are the reason I like your channel, keep them up. Plus I like the play by play of what you are doing. I just drove a 1000 miles to pick up an old Powermatic 90 lathe. I worked on one years ago and really liked how sturdy it was. Of course I did pick something else up while there that was a large fork lift for my business. I learn by watching and doing. There is some new tech in concrete where they are using nano-particles to strengthen it, and I am wondering of the hyper-shift flakes may be doing something like that in this case. The way that the pattern appeared (small circles on top, and long features on sides, seems to indicate that it bubbled, or rose in small thermal columns, which made me think the hypershift was involved.

Wow, so many new subs! Guess a lot of people love watching you turn big resin projects. You really have come a long way since your early days of walnut bowls with different rim inlays. Glad Designer Epoxy is making it all possible for you to produce these unique turnings. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Love the hypershift! Despite the "yellowing," I don't think it really detracts from the piece. This has to be among one of my most favored of your turnings completed with resin! As a woodcarver I appreciate your willingness to "step out there" and try something new. It's all a learning experience!

I’ve been watching for a long time. I don’t usually comment because I’m watching on TV and there is nowhere to comment when you watch on TV. You do great work. The underwater cave piece was by far my favorite. I like the transparency

Every week I think you have completed your masterpiece and then the following week, you create another. That hyper shift is magnificent and the walnut ain't bad for wood that wasn't even fit for the fire. Adding this comment before you decide on a name - if it were mine, I would call it The Cinnabon 😊 beautiful.

I love your voice overs! Your videos help me sleep, though I do tend to fight sleep while trying to watch cause your projects always turn out beautiful, I have an extreme anxiety? I guess? When it comes to hearing mouth noises when people talk. You're one of the few TH-camrs I can watch with earbuds in because you don't make many mouth noises when you talk. I appreciate you and your work!

It turned yellow like that because of how old the resin was. Once it gets past 12 to 14 months it will get progressively more yellow...even more than what you achieved. It can be a great look so it's worth using the older resin. Not only will a dark color mask the yellow but you need to be careful which color you use. For instance purple is opposite yellow on the color wheel and opposites can give you grey or even brown depending on the opacity and if it is a red or blue purple. You can also achieve more colors if you add pigment that is a complimentary color. For instance if you add a touch of light blue you will get a really cool green color. I do resin art and not wood turning but I have been watching your channel for over a year...I believe you had 40k subscribers when I started watching. I just become enthralled throughout the whole process. And to those who think there isn't enough wood. Variety is the spice of life!!! Not every piece will need a majority of wood. Sorry not sorry...just saying!

Jim, I'm very pleased that you are going to keep doing the voice overs on your videos. You are right - even for non-woodworkers like me, it is fascinating to hear how you make your decisions and all the information you pass on.
Regarding this piece, I'm not bothered about how much wood is in the hollow form. The piece looks amazing, and the colours are beautiful. Again the Hypershift is doing most of the heavy lifting, and, man, it is good! I'm not surprised you love it and use it as much as you do!! Once again you have taken a piece of old wood that wouldn't even be good for firewood and turned it into a beautiful piece of art! Well done, sir, very well done!

I just came upon your channel this week. I say, keep your voiceovers. It provides information of what you're doing and why. Your explaining your work makes it even more interesting. I almost want to learn woodturning. I knew of woodturning but was never interested until watching a few of your videos (I basically binge-watched several of your videos back to back). Watching, has made me value the work and skill behind woodturning.

Never give up the voiceovers! I agree with other commenters, if people don't like it then they can turn the sound off! I don't understand why people bother complaining, such a silly issue 🤷‍♀️
I love this piece! I love the shape, I love the wood, I love the yellow colour! Maybe it didn't thermal crack because it knew it had that gorgeous shimmery honey-gold already and didn't need any extra sparkle 😂
The patterns the hypershift made are glorious too, I am a big fan of the swirly iridescent depth.
Thank you Jim, beautiful work this week. I'm sure someone will snap up last week's beauty soon as well. If it were purple instead of pink I'd be pining for it, I adored everything about it except the pink!
And congrats on hitting 115k, you'll be at 200k before you know it!
