I would like to know more about the game loop. What keeps you comming back to the game once you have the cosmetics you like, your house is finished and you've explored enought? As I see it right now from the videos and streams I saw this is a lovely game with a playability of maybe 30hrs. Which is fine but I would love for there to be something that hooks us into keep playing.
In my playtesting in the past, I never "finished" customizing and changing my house to the level I wanted, and that's not even counting the multiple lots you can get and build with your friends. So if it's easy to burn through, it's somebody going at a pace faster than me. I've also spent a lot of time visiting other people's houses and exploring and socializing. We'll have to see if that's enough to last until content updates add more to the world.

You always want another plot, another project, etc. But Im hesitant about that being enough to keep people logging in and farming for more than a month. I guess we will have to wait and see. @@93MatiasS Thankfully, the game is F2P. So you can come and go as pleased. I don't think they're really designing it to be like the standard MMO market. Just like Stardew or Animal Crossing, people come back and play when they want that type of game.
Thank you for the view, the game looks interesting, however my suspicions about the game being free to play came true when looking at the premium store pricing, you can easily spend 10-20 dollars or more on just a single outfit... This looks to be among the most expensive ingame stores I have seen, I still might try the game out when it is released, but I would definitely have prefered a paid game with dlc options at fair prices, in games like this people can easily be spending more money on a handful of premium objects than what a fullblown AAA game cost... I guess it is just the way the gaming industry has been going lately, it is more about whaling than making money from sales of a good game while being transparent and fair to their players!
Kinda true but also not. The developers did say it would only be the outfits in the store, there’d be no paid bonuses and no furniture which the game is centred on. So far it looks true. Prices for store are way too much in my opinion but glad no house stuff or advantages
It's just cosmetics, no one forces you to get those items. The basic customisation options for your character will also receive more options over time. This is a game that ist absolutely Free-2-Play. None of the items in the shop effect the game play.

A lot of money, also hosting mmo servers cost a bunch of money, in a completely free to play game it will require a lot of potential buyers in their premium store to buy only clothes, or they will down the line start changing the rules to earn more money ;) Free to play games is an uncertain income, for each 100 players there may only be a small amount buying from their store. Ususally these companies have hired a monetization expert who's only job is to maximize profit as much as possible without people being pushed away. His job is to find out what triggers people to spend money they otherwise wouldn't have had + make long-term strategies how to keep them playing and spending more money even when they really cannot afford or want to anymore. This can be done in many ways, first you need to make sure that in early stage of a game, a player most not be forced, but rather tempted by bargains and other good deals, more often than not people will be less likely to just leave a game once they have invested money in some cosmetics. Palia is a social game like many mmo's are, but it is also a farming game where you gather, craft, harvest, explore and build a cozy home, cosmetics is what this game is mostly about, there isn't much of a game outside these aspects. The devs said that it is only cosmetics that will be in premium store, that I will believe for now, but that it never will be anything than cosmetic clothes that will cost real money I have a hard time believing in the long run. How far they will push the monetization is hard to say, but a free to play mmo usually is a big red light, things may look fine in the beginning but rules are made to be changed down the line, especially if they cannot generate enough money for the production and the investors, especially the investors don't care about the actual game that much, they have only one interest and that is to maximize profit, and there in lies the work for the monetization expert, he is responsible for what strategies to use, when the right time is, which type of people to target the most, basically his job is to make sure that profit is as high as possible while not pushing players away and make them feel that they got a good deal even though they likely didn't compared to a paid game. I have a seen so many free to play games, but I have yet to see one that didn't change the rules at some point, it is all about reeling in players and then slowly make them feel a need to spend money on the game they are hooked on... Anyone remember the many Facebook farming games like Farmville, they pretty much made the foundation for the future of social farming games, you may play for free, but in the long run it will become more and more difficult to manage and have fun in your game without spending money, simply because you see how much better and easier the life is for those who spend money in their premium shop :) Ask me again or remember this post in a couple of years, I bet the rules of Premium stuff has changed a lot, if the game still exist then XD

Atleast Palia doesn't have lootboxes which is just a loophole gambling slotmachine). Regardless, a completely f2p cozy game is good. The world to me is incredibly lacklustre. Why when I go into the village is there just 5 NPC’S standing still and nothing else. It’s like a ghost town or like time has frozen. It’s just weird.
I know my kids are pumped to move to Switch. The performance will be worse than my PC for sure, but they have pretty weak laptops and it doesn't run Palia that great anyways.
Great video, i wanted to ask 2 things, first, the real money ratio to premium currence, if the premium currence packs are enough to buy most of the things out your are just shy some coins to buy and need other pack, and if the jetpack is something for a quest our a normal cosmetics item. It’s the you buy currency and have some left over so you have to buy more currency. The shop is supposed to be purely cosmetic, so nothing from the shop will be needed to progress in the game.
The jetpack is part of a premium cosmetic and doesn't have any gameplay benefit. It's for attention starved people like me to run around and say LOOK AT MY JETPACK

No one forces you to buy cosmetic items. They don't effect the gameplay. However, consider that spending some money in the shop from time to time will pay the server bills and also compensate the developers working on the game. Compared to normal subscription games, it's your call how much and how often you wish to spend some money.

And the Battlepass is how you get the new DLC Items, so basically you have to buy it, if you want that stuff. I preferred the DLC's, could get those when I had the money. Yes, it could be a bit cheaper, but the thing is, everything is more expensive now. People have to live. And lucky you, I haven't gotten an invitations so far. It's sad, but I guess I'll just have to wait until the 10th.

I’ve been told you can buy one outfit which is less than the whole set. Also each outfit comes in 3 color variations. And some of the pieces can be varied in color.
Really like the premise. But quite a few things bug me. No nets for bug catching. Cant believe it was relegated to a pokeball. Theres still only two areas without a lot to do so curious how quickly the players will burn thru it. The cosmetics are way too expensive and i fear its not a viable model to keep the game going. I hope for the best but hopefully the beta doesnt sink its chamces.
hey, alpha tester here, while we said what happens in alpha stays in alpha...it was for the better that it was removed and reworked. the bug net i mean. just needed to clarify it that from player feedback it did not feel great.
@itsdianachan not sure about alpha, but their release video from the other day shows the kid on the cart with the net catching butterflies. And seeing as it works so well in Animal Crossing, it would had been perfect for Palia. At this point, it's no different than using the bow.
@@shawns4354 sorry to be a downer, but testing it in game itself was slow and sluggish according to the majority of us playtesters. nobody liked it so they changed it to be more fluid and fun.
i noticed when looking at your inventory that it said "get a pack upgrade at Zeki' Store to unlock" where you are able to get a total of 40 inventory slots. What is Zeki's store? Is it Premium currency or is it in game money?
Zeki is a character. He is a cat from space xD. You buy inventory from him with the gold you get in the game from selling things like the fish, bugs, insects, wood, and things you have mined and all the things you have grown like carrots, onions, tomatoes and more. Hope that helped you ;)

I play DDV. There’s a lot more going on in this game and the potential for a lot more. The support and software coding are vastly better in Paula than DDV.

Can I ask why the beta is open till launch day? is it to fix bugs players find?
That's mostly the case yes. Several bugs were found which is ''good'' news.
Also, it's to ensure that the servers don't get overloaded/crash with hundreds of thousands of users connecting and creating accounts : )

Zeki is a character and you get the upgraded storage from his store. You don't need a premium currency to purchase it.
Yeah it's very stardew valley esque in terms of that. 500 gold for one upgrade 5000 for the next ect ect which is the normal ig currency
