    I think you're being generous when you say that MMOByte had a misunderstanding about the 'wooing' thing. I think he understands perfectly well, he just likes to create click-bait.
    Thank you for a perspective with more.... perspective!

    I love the Swahili words in the game. When i signed up on the website i put my country to Kenya then i read their newsletter and im seeing "hodari", "kilima", "kenyatta", "bahari". I was like. "Wow! The personalisation is too deep in this one." Then i found out it's like that for everyone. 🤦‍♂️

    As a big MMO genre fan I like Palia, ngl was a bit disappointed with how non-MMO it is but ended up enjoying the game. Although what sucks about Palia is that you cant really play with your friends... sure you can mine rocks, chop trees and cook. But houses? Separate. Your friends with "editor" perms cant even work on your crafting stations or anything. So the biggest part of this game is SOLO. You really cant do that much with your friends or partner. Which is the most disappointing thing about this game to me.

    While I think this game is so gamer friendly I'm a bit worried that such a generous free to play model will make the game unsustainable eventually. So I'm going to buy some premium content just because I want to see this game do well!

    • @sourgreendolly7685
      @sourgreendolly7685 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree and would buy if I had the money for the same reason. I think that's why the shop is so expensive- I think S6 is very aware of how expensive the upkeep for Palia will be and they aren't sure how many players would buy things so they're priced high.
      I hope they find a better balance in the future. I think more people would buy if the shop wasn't expensive - I know I can't justify $20~ on a game outfit when I just spent only slightly more on one real life pair of jeans the other week, but maybe that amount on coins that I can buy several things with I could do on occasion. But I can see why the prices are high rn.
      I know they're very receptive to players feedback just from being an Alpha tester for a few months before Beta so I'm fairly optimistic they will - and I'm not typically any amount of optimistic with games these days!

    The only thing I don't like about this game is it feels very solo, rather than MMO.
    Everyone's homes are in private instances. So you can't see how differently everyone decides to design their houses and plots. With most zones being capped at 25 people, they could have easily added neighborhoods to zones where your lot gets transferred to whatever server you are currently on, or something along those lines. At least make a instanced neighborhood with 25 lots. Currently, you can only visit friends' and guild members' lots, and only when they are online, and I think you need their permission.
    The chat system is kinda weird too. Like you have to stop playing the game and pull it up in order to view chat. So it's not like a lot of mmo's where you see people chatting as you play the game. And there's no "area" chat, so you can't just strike up a conversation with someone that you're leveling alongside. You can only whisper them (which they probably won't see) or talk in server chat (again, they probably won't see).
    I hope they work these things out to make it feel more community oriented, because right now it just feels like My Time at Portia/Sandrock with other players running around.

    I think the sharding or instancing issue is actually hilarious. Because I also play Diablo 4, which also uses instancing and in any small zone you're instanced with up to 12 people. And in that community, you can find people who are really upset that you might run into another player at all and you can't play it "solo." Meanwhile, I see people in the Palia community upset about there only being 25 people. 😂 I also play WoW and I play GW2, and FFXIV, and ESO and LotRO, and having a cap on how many people in a zone is a good thing. Otherwise getting anything done is impossible due to lag, and lack of resources.
    As for the "P2W" issue. It doesn't matter that they are only going to sell cosmetic clothes. It doesn't matter if they are super clear about their intentions. The community will still get angry at the "greedy" dev team for locking anything at all behind a paywall. Let's take Disney Dreamlight Valley for example. From the very beginning, they were incredibly clear that there was going to be a "battle pass" that is paid with real money through their currency - Moonstones. They were very clear from the beginning there was going to be a cash shop to sell cosmetics. And they were very clear that at some point there would be paid additional quests and expansions. The paid founders packs came with Moonstones to start people off on the battle pass. And ever since then, people had no idea Moonstones were the real money currency, got mad when they started selling them, got mad that there are cosmetics you have to buy with money. "But I'm a 100% completionist and must own 100% of all the things, and I can't complete it if I have to pay money and they are so greedy!" I bought the 20,000 moonstone pack at the beginning in September 2022, and with those I have paid for the more expensive battle pass every time, and I've even bought the castle house cosmetic with them which is the more expensive one, and I only play 2-3 weeks out of every 3 months period, and as of yesterday I have 20,600 moonstones without buying more.
    So... uhm... expect the discourse on the cash shop to get much worse, is what I'm saying.
    Also, I want to support this game, so I understand why teams do things like a battle pass, paid cosmetics, and even paid quests or expansions from time to time. Because if they don't make money somehow, the game will fail. (Also PS, I'm super jealous because I signed up for Palia alpha when it was announced, waited all that time, and then finally got picked for the July test and it was the first time I had gone out of town on vacation in 20 years so I never got to participate. 😭) Thanks for the video!

      It's marketed as an MMO which, you know, means that that's what it's supposed to be...

    • @TheAzureGhost
      @TheAzureGhost ปีที่แล้ว

      On first Paragraph: Previous Diablo games were mostly singleplayer with optinal multiplayer IF you invite the others into your party up to 4 players, so yeah, some might dislike that they have no say in others joining their world anymore. to add to that having always online without offline mode is something not every one likes either (especially with the performance issues that come with that online connectivity in some regions)
      I took part in player organized events in several other MMOs that had way more than 25 Players part taking in one instance so yeah i can see the limitations but as far as i understood it the 25 players is not a hard coded thing and different zones might have different limits so one might be able to get a higher player count in a zone for such events if you cooperate with the devs in the Events organisation.
      On the 2nd note i just want to mention "Path of Exile" a ARPG like Diablo just on a Free to Play model with quite expensive cosmetics (and the basic skins look pretty shaby, even more so compared to the paid ones) , stashspace (affects gameplay) and for quite a while also cosmetics from lootboxes in their store and the majorty of its playerbase seem hard on to defend that ingame store and telling everybody that you do not need to buy anything to play but should support such a great game which is what the store is for.
      So yeah, while there will always be some complainers, there are many who are okey with it in a f2p game as long as it's not pay to win and the game outside of the shop is good enough.

    • @writinggamer8059
      @writinggamer8059 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAzureGhost Sure, I’ve played Diablo 3 and 4, I was just pointing out how funny it is that one community is against seeing other players while the other is disappointed at not seeing enough players.
      Also I know POE players defend it to the death. But in the “cozy” community it seems there is a much bigger push for “everything should be free, and if it’s not, then it’s greed.” Not only that, free but with continuous large updates. I’ve even discussed with someone else how companies need to stop aiming at growth completely and just aim to make enough to keep the doors open, like a non-profit organization. While I do agree there are cosmetic stores that go way too far, there needs to be a balance so a company can grow and compensate it’s people, but also not be too predatory.

    I mean, in a game where the aesthetic of your character and home is the real main goal, cash shop only items for those things is effective P2W. I’d rather pay $60 for a game with no MTX.
    Developers make games to get paid. If they aren’t charging for their game, it’s because they’re sure they can make an equivalent of $30-70 per player, accounting for whales. Combat focused games can at least claim the main focus of the game isn’t affected by MTX. Not sure this one can.

    As a GW2 player interested in Palia I appreciate the GW2 references in this video. I imagine Palia being like the pcifist child of GW2 (for the MMO aspects) and Stardew Valley (major gameplay), with some own characteristics added.
    Regarding the "p2w": This term is used to often and it seems like everybody has an own definition. Sometimes it also looks like someoneis twisting the definition so it works for the game they are attacking. This is especially true when the game doesn't really have a "winning" state. Monetization models have evolved, there is pay for cosmetics, pay for convenience, there are battle passes, optional subscription and sometimes some of the stuff combined. And some of these systems had iterations that looked worse than p2w.

    • @DadJokeCinema

    • @Shiirow
      @Shiirow ปีที่แล้ว +1

      people focus too much on the "Win" part to create strawmen. its not about winning in the literal sense, but its a clear indication of where the games focus will be in the future. do the costumes and cosmetics in the cash shop look leaps and bounds better than what you can earn in game? just means you will be getting more nice looking paid cosmetics and shitty potato bag crap in game, because they care more about monetizing you like a fashion whale than giving you a fun game to play with nice cosmetics. thus the game is "pay to win". if the cosmetics are balanced, and you get really nice cosmetics in game and in the shop, then everything is copacetic.

      from reading their faq site, there's going to be put limits on trading, so a bot wouldn't really be worth that much, depending on how they make the limitations, and there's not really anything to speed grind for, since there's no end goal.
      also from what I understand then alot of crafting is timegated (not nec. a bad thing), so even if you have an unlimited amount of resources from bots, you wouldn't nec. be further ahead from some just taking their time gathering.

    I think it's a pitiful way to defend them claiming the game is an MMO tbh. It's a life sim game with very basic social features. MMO's are generally characterized by the social features being the main point of the game even with instancing. Which in this game, they very obviously aren't. The games that actually skirt the line are old MO games like PSO1.
    People need to step defending the decision to call this an MMO. It's ruining the games reputation. Just being honest and calling it multiplayer Stardew Valley will bring in a player base much more suited for this style of game.
    There is a reason the Diablo 4 player base desperately tries to avoid calling it an MMO even though it's essentially doing the same things. Since it's bad for perception on what the game is actually like

    With any mmo dev using unreal engine you can expect at best 50 players per world instance and Palia runs on UE4.
    So the 25 limit is due the engine. Its a number where its still in the safe zone. It's not an issue here though since you aren't trying to have huge pvp battles or big open world raid bosses. Would only make it worse if you had 100 players/ instance as it would lead to overfarming the available resources. Then they would have to extend the map 4x to keep player density low enough to not cause frustration.

    Not an MMO more like MO.
    A better way to say it is "Multiplayer Online with up to 25 players per instance with matchmaking that prioritizes friends and nearby players". The MMO community knows this difference and they look for it. Misleading is never a good idea.
    Hunting Creatures is PVE by the way.

    • @laerwen
      @laerwen ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not misleading to call it an MMO - it's that some people take this literally in a frankly very 2004 sense of the term. All the major games use instancing/sharding to create better performance for players. The thousands of players are there, but they're across shards/instances.

    I think it's ok that they have shop cosmetics BUT, they DO need to add some form of cosmetic OUTSIDE the paying method. Obviously they can and should make the paid cosmetics "better, fancier, and flashier", but they definetly need to add some crafted cosmetics, specially taking into consideration that we have LEATHER AND FABRIC. It's a no brainer for me the need to add these kind of crafted cosmetics in these type of games.

    I have a hypothetical question, can you play offline so you can avoid playing with other people? Or the game won't work unless you're online? I'm just asking what if there are people who doesn't want to play with others, or what if they travel some place where there's no internet..

    • @DadJokeCinema
      @DadJokeCinema  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately no - the whole idea of the game is to take the cozy single player experiences like Stardew and make them multiplayer. It won't work offline, but you don't *have* to interact with anyone. You are able to do everything alone, you'll just see other people running around in the world from time to time. They can't come to your lot without being friends with you, and you can even make it so your friends can't go to a lot either, so you can effectively play single-player with other people sometimes around, but you have to be online because it's an online game.
      Hope that clears it up!

    I have never played one of these games before. I am 60 years old, not very computer literate but love games. I play Harvest Moon and Rune Factory on the wii and various games including Sims, Wylde Flowers, Raft and Don't Starve on pc. I don't really understand how these games work but loved the bits of gameplay I'd seen enough to be interested in obtaining it. However, I don't want to play with other people (anti-social I know!) so could someone please explain to me if it will be possible for me to play alone and if I will have to contend with others trying to be sociable? xxx

    • @DadJokeCinema
      @DadJokeCinema  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Unfortunately there is no way to play this offline or completely separate from other people - it's an online game only. It's completely possible to not interact with people, and they can't come to your housing plot unless you're friends. You'll see people running around doing things in the world, but there's not much in the way of interaction with them. You can go on your way doing your own thing.

    • @DadJokeCinema
      @DadJokeCinema  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can help you with that! There is no PVE content outside of some simple hunting mechanics with a bow and the animals don't attack you. There's no character death, no competitive stuff, it's just a game to build a house and explore and work through the narrative. There's like some jumping puzzles and things to discover that aren't easy to get to, but the main focus is like the non-combat portions of Stardew Valley or Coral Island.

    They are not clear about the prices in the shop as far as I know.
    Not clear about the size of the world.. and how many players can be in it.
    The world looks pretty small, and empty. The difference between the first trailers and the last ones is big.
    In the first one the world looks very lively last ones.. not.
    What can you do in big groups..? What makes this an MMO that people want to keep playing.
    Can you see each others or your own house in the world or do you teleport?
    Are there animals to take care of.. So many questions unanswered.
