At the 2:00 mark you state "it has an aluminum frame". It is constructed of 4140 chrome-moly steel. Slide is milled from cold drawn bar stock while the frame is fully machined from a forging; both are heat-treated. Internal components are machined from high tensile steel.
I paid $425 NIB for my two tone MC P35 yesterday. Having owned a FEG, BHP Practical, and BHP Mk3... I can tell that I'm impressed with this gun so far. Very solid feeling, and fit&finish is flawless. Now I need to remove the mag disconnect and throw some lead downrange.

I've got a FEG that my dad bought back in the 80s when we both did some IPSC shooting, so it had thousands of rounds through it. It's not the polished, Belgian-gnome workmanship of a FN, but I inherited the thing, with a lot of rust, cleaned it up, slapped a paint job on it, and replaced a cracked firing pin retaining plate. Goes bang just fine. If I didn't have that, I'd get a Girsan. The copies are nice, and I have no interest in paying $$$$$ for an FN.

All of this does not matter as the Hi-Power is quite possibly the sexiest handgun ever made.

The HI Power was John Brownings last small arm design before he died in 1926. His protégé from FN finished it by 1929 when the patent was a approved and it was fielded in 1935, hence the P35 designation outside of the US. The oldest 9mm handgun still produced.
Fact checking is welcomed.
You got your facts right. Something else that isn't widely known or acknowledged is that Browning had to work around the fact that he'd sold ALL his patent rights to the US government when he developed the 1911. This is the biggest reason the Hi Power doesn't have a swiveling pinned barrel link like the 1911, nor the removable barrel bushing, although Saive said Browning was determined to ditch those "features" anyway. The French Army was responsible for commissioning FN to build the pistol in the first place, and of course they rejected it out-of-hand once it was finished. I think they did so deliberately -- it gave them the chance to see Browning's design so they could copy as much of it as possible. The biggest thing that isn't widely known is that the first incarnations of the Hi Power were actually striker fired pistols that employed a breech block of some kind. The idea that Browning came up with a striker fired gun decades before the Glock blows me away. I can't remember why the striker fired design was abandoned, but it was responsible for the trigger linkage that exists today. As far as I know, the Hi Power is the only gun of its kind that has a firing mechanism that isn't operable unless the slide is present on the gun.
About the Girsan, I was badly mistaken in my previous comments that it had a chrome plated barrel. It's just a highly polished piece of plain vanilla 4140 chrome moly steel. It's not a bad barrel, but I replaced mine with one of the Elite Match barrel from BHSpring Solutions, along with their dual-stage recoil spring guide assembly and their wide tactical serrated 8.4mm triggers. The only big modification I have yet to do is the installation of their SFS safety system. God, I love this Girsan pistol. Say whatever you might, but the Turks know their stuff when it comes to making high quality guns. After all, they were making museum-grade rifles 500 years before gunpowder was introduced in Europe.

Removing the mag disconnect will not only improve the mag drop problem, it normally improves the trigger itself also
it can weaken the reset.
Thus far, you are the only Reviewer who has spoken positively about the trigger. I got my MC P35 yesterday and will try it next week.
I tried it. Did not do badly. The Stiff Trigger kinda disappears when you get into Single Saction Shooting. Apparently I haven't found the time, until today, to "score" my target. Then I will photograph it and shrink a copy.
Forged steel frame, not alloy, and removing the magazine safety greatly improves the trigger pull. Good review.

I havent gotten to shoot it much but the low recoil out of a 5 inch barrel makes it pretty accurate and fun to shoot. 9 round capacity compared to 7 is nice. I want a 45 too but i dont see why its better besides thats the original.

I think the reason you got that weird sight setup was, believe it or not, that is what Browning put on the MKIII "Combat" (IIRC) in the late 80's early 90's. It was a two-tone pistol with ambi oversized safety levers, more prominent sights, and spring loaded wire contraption that positively shot the mags out on a reload. I owned one briefly and instantly recognized those sights. They were miles ahead of most Hi Power sights of the time, back when we were actually carrying Hi Powers to fight with. As a combat sight, they worked okay if you applied the "Tactical Sharpie" to the rear sight.

Bought the two tone Gray/Black this weekend very slightly used ( looked unfired).
Got 2 extra Mec-Gar 15 round mags.
My Lyman digital pull gauge showed a 6 pull test average of 7#. Removed the magazine disconnect and the grittyness went away and the trigger pull dropped to an average of 5#9oz.
Blacked out the weird back white marked sight, and used a bright orange paint pen to mark the front sight.
Zero malfunctions in 100 rounds with my son and I each taking turns shooting reloads with 125 grain Berrys Plated RN and Berrys 125 target Hollow points.
Accuracy was really good, and got better while shooting.
After the 100 the trigger pull had settled down to just at 5#, and got much crisper. I feel that will improve even more with more shooting.
Ordered some G10 blue/black grips for it, and the precut textured pebble grained stick on grip tape kit for front and rear straps.
Those pebble grained stick on panels really improve grip.
I have used them on several pistols whose front strap shape isn't conducive to hand checkering like I do on 1911 builds.
Might hand cut it 40 LPI later, but don't want to do that now and have to re-ceracote it. .
Very impressed with it.
And your First shots and 1000 round videos were why I got it.
Always wanted a Browning HP, But prices hindered making that purchase.
I build all my own pistols, and AR platform rifles and Bolt guns myself (30 years of experience) and there aren't readily available parts to scratch build a HP.
Very pleased with this one, and my son who is another 1911 lover said he was get one next gun show.
He is LEO, and carries a 1911 built in my shop daily on duty.

Hooray! It took awhile but 10 years ago found a nice used Argentinian High Power for $425. Put some nice Hogue wood grips on it and bought a couple Mec-Gar magazines for it. Great shooting gun and a survivor of the Falklands War.

If it has the cuts on the slide it is a licensed FN copy....if the slide has no cuts.....like a 1911 then it was made after the licensing dropped....practically the same firearm....but that is how they defrienciate one from the other.....I like the Turkish hi power ....especially in mk 3 configuration....prefer the bigger safety....the ordinal one was useless....but I will wait a little while till they iron out any bugs it may have.....

I bought the girsan Mc 1911s and after around 2500 rounds for a single stack .45 this thing has been incredibly smooth trigger is unbelievably sensitive no wiggles no lose parts had no jams, some say its horrible don't know how old theirs is but mine has been awesome for $525
People talk bad about the Turkish guns, which are built to the same standards because they're jealous they paid 1500 for a colt vs 300 like I paid for my tisas. The difference is my tisas gets shot more than most colts and gets carried every day with no issues.
I've owned 2 tisas they shoot amazingly great for the price point but both had about 5 jams within 500 rounds so I definitely didn't trust one to carry even though it shot amazingly and I was super accurate with it
BH Springs did a thorough review and in their opinion, the accuracy issue is related to the barrel. They replaced the barrel and the accuracy issue went away.
Who’s barrel did they use and what did it take to fit it?

@@jddrafts Unfortunately, the barrel is almost as much as the gun ($345).
Had another PistolSmith tell me he has recut the crowns to 11° on a few of these and accuracy improved a good bit too.
I'm going to recut mine this week and test it off bags at 25 yards before and after .

I went ahead and bought one of these weapons after watching your review Outlaw, and I couldn't be more happy.
The frame on the Girsan Hi-Power is not aluminum, it's steel. Though the classic Hi-Power frame is so skeletonized, I suppose I can see how someone not familiar with the design could believe it's aluminum. In any event, try sticking a magnet to it, you'll find it does, in fact, stick.
It's not that you're giving up a checkered frontstrap at the price point, it's that the Hi-Power's frontstrap is literally too thin to checker without cutting through it.
Barrel length on the Hi-Power is 4.65" (I suppose we could round it up to 4.7" if we really wanted to), not five inches.
FN actually made a couple of aluminum BHP frames.
@@jimhovater8755. Indeed they did. There is an entire chapter in R. Blake Stevens' excellent book, The Browning High Power Automatic Pistol, on those experimental models, which never actually went into production.

I've been a Hi Power fanatic for ages. I carried a Series '70 Colt Government Model for twenty-four years and never thought I'd love another gun as much, but for me, the Hi Power is my all-time favorite sidearm, even though it's not a .45. With modern ammo, I don't feel that's an issue anymore. I just bought a Girsen identical to the one you review here (except mine was two-tone, another thing I'm freakish for). I paid $399 plus $16 shipping and $20 for the FFL paperwork. Like you, the sights on this thing are just friggin' weird and I'm going to see if I can't find some tritium sights that will fit this thing ASAP. I also yanked that abominable magazine disconnector and it improved my trigger pull immensely. It's still heavy, though. According to my gauge it is right at 5 pounds even. But it's crisp, clean and breaks without a hint of creep. Hi Powers are notoriously difficult to perform a trigger job on, but I think I can coax this one down to 3 pounds with some meticulous stoning and a set of Wolf springs.
You erroneously stated that the gun has an aluminum frame. Not so. It is steel.
One strange departure is the barrel being chrome plated. Girsan claims that they followed John M. Browning's design to the letter (hence the magazine disconnector), but I don't recall ever seeing a brightly chromed barrel from FN before. I think the bright chrome on the exterior is gaudy looking, like something I'd expect to see on a New Orleans pimp's gun. I don't know where people get the idea, but lots of folks think chrome lined barrels are more accurate, and that simply is NOT true. These folks like to point to Uncle Sam's requirement that the M16/M4 barrel be chrome plated. But that's for corrosion resistance, not accuracy. Chrome and steel have very different expansion differentials when it comes to temperature. Over time and with a lot of shooting, chrome linings don't hold up. And it's been my experience that such barrels actually shoot more accurately once the damn chrome is gone (but before the rifling itself is shot out). I put this pistol in a Ransom Rest after I'd run about 400 rounds down the tube, and I was getting sub-2-inch groups at 25 yards. In fact, a few groups approached 1.5" at that distance with good ammo.
One last thing: aside from Girsan, there's another Turkish company also currently making Hi Power clones, and I can't recall the name of that firm to save my neck at the moment, but it starts with a "T." I'm sure you know the company of which I'm speaking. At any rate, I've read from two completely different sources that Springfield actually SOURCES ITS FRAMES for their SA-35 pistol from either Girsan or the other Turkish company. I wouldn't have brought this up were it not for a couple of my range buddies saying they've heard/read the same thing.

Any evidence to Chrome lined bores not holding up ?
Sure. Steel melts at about 2,500° F -- depending on the exact alloy. Chromium melts at 3,465° F -- quite a difference. The expansion differential between steel and chromium is such that chrome lining will eventually begin cracking and peeling after repeatedly being heated and cooled, which is what happens when gun barrels are put to use. I've seen it. That's one of the big reasons that the Army requires the barrels of M16s and M4s be swapped out every 7,500 rounds. That is not a long barrel life.@@justinpennington7682
I've also seen in online forum talk that springfield has their SA-35s had work done from Tisas. Apparently, an article stated that they have the Turkish company do as much work as possible before it's shipped to the USA, where springfield does enough work to call it "American Made." I've heard chrome lined barrels do reduce some accuracy, but significantly improve the barrels lifespan. I have no idea if this was done in the 1930s at all, though.
Glad to see the hi power coming back. Have loved it since I was a teenager. Own an FN, and a fake FN made for Iraqi police by FEG. Both work great, can't wait to get my hands on this one, see how she stacks up.

Might have to pick one up. Put hundreds of rounds through my tisas, with the only jams being caused by super flat hollow points. Happy with the quality of these Turkish guns truly.
Thanks for the review. I have to look for one of these now. I have been shooting and carrying a High Power for 15 years. Get the magazine disconnect removed. It will let the mags fall free and give a better trigger pull.

I love the way a Hi Power feels in my hand. It feels like the grip of an old friend.
The first thing I did with my FN Browning Hi Power back in the day was to disable the mag disconnect. It lowered the trigger pull and made the gun much better.
Absolutely love the hi-power. Even with the crappy old tiny blade front sight😂 crisp crazy light trigger, shoots lazer straight, and runs like a sewing machine.
I recently bought the ops version with the improved trigger, sights, and G10 grips, mine does not have the magazine disconnect, it’s also easy to remove it as I have done on my Browning version, I’m quite happy with it, and for the $516 price tag I paid well worth it, while it won’t have the best finish of some higher priced ones for half the price it’s a pretty good bargain.😊

I hope Rock Island starts making these as well. I'm a big fan of Rock Island Armory 1911's and revolvers. Inexpensive and crude parkerized finish, but super reliable and accurate. My RIA 1911A1 GI model is my absolute favorite pistol that I own. Mine is insanely accurate, has great fit and finish, is superbly reliable, and just feels soooo great in the hand. If they got the tooling for a Hi-Power, I'm sure they absolutely rock it. But until then, these Girsan Hi-Power (and M9 clone) pistols are high on my list (no pun intended) to purchase as they really do seem to be quality firearms. Now if only the dozens of cheap Turkish shotgun manufacturers would make shotguns to the same standards. :P

I guess the reason it sells so inexpensive is that they left out the recoil on this pistol as seen at 2:06.
I got one of these a little over a month ago as I write this. Mine was about $600 OTD, including FFL transfer fee, shipping, etc. Always wanted a Hi-Power but didn’t want to take a chance on a used or a milsurp, and new builds were just too much coin. Very happy to finally get a Hi-Power for a reasonable price.
Came very heavily oiled. Needed to clean it up somewhat before taking it to the range.
First range session was 70 rounds. Had one failure to eject.
Second range session was 128 rounds. First 120 were without incident, and then on round #121, there was a failure to fire. Hammer went down and nothing happened. Re-chambered the round and it fired.
Third range session was 100 rounds. Had three failures to eject and three failures to fire. On the latter, manually re-cocking the hammer got it to fire; “second strike”.
Works most of the time; can’t accuse it of being a “jamo-matic”. A little concerned about reliability after my third range session, though. All ammo was factory ammo from reputable companies; Browning, Winchester, Belom, IMI, Federal. The IMI and Federal were hollow points that cycled perfectly.
I think perhaps there was still some excess oil in the slide that was mixing with the carbon buildup and creating crud that may have been interfering a little bit with the firing pin and the extractor. Earlier today as I write this, gave it a thorough cleaning, using a non-oil based cleaner on the slide (Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber). Hopefully it will be more solidly reliable going forward.
Lots of fun to shoot and easy to shoot accurately (can’t beat the ergonomics of the Hi-Power; best 9mm pistol design ever in my opinion). I actually like the sights and the trigger is fine by me. Should be a keeper in any case, if only for a range gun. Won’t carry as a defensive weapon unless I can have a wee bit more confidence in its reliability, though.

I got the Ops on GunBroker. Best pistol ever. Doesn't have magazine disconnect, has a flat (not curved) very light trigger, extra long beaverton, bright sights. Very rapid trigger, almost seems like you're shooting on automatic.
I removed the magazine disconnect and repainted the front sight right off. The gun runs great, unlike my more expensive Springfield SA-35 which is headed back to the factory for the second time for the same problem, a trigger that gets really stiff, then locks after just a couple of shots. Have to engage and then disengage the safety to release it. I really want one of the short slide models, but I understand the short slide model is finicky on ammo. And FN's new "hipower" isn't a hipower at all except for the exterior profile.
If Mec-Gar would start making 20 round hipower mags again, we'd be in really good shape

Have completely enjoyed these videos and appreciate them so much! I have been asking for months now for a comparison video of Honest Outlaws CZ Accushadow and the newer CZ Shadow 2 Orange. The Accushadow is the CZ Custom Shops (in the USA) customized edition and the Orange is CZ's factory customized edition. There are differences and would just find a breakdown comparison by the Outlaw so helpful in deciding which way to go! PLEASE, PLEASE, can you finally do that comparison???? A number of my friends are so interested in this comparison so I have to think others would find it extremely helpful as well.

After watching your videos I bought one of these. I have always wanted a Hi Power but never could justify the price. I paid about $550 OTD for this one and so far I am a big fan. I think the trigger is great in mine and I even like the sights. I may put some pretty wood grips on it but the ones tha came on it are fine also. If the FN's and Brownings shoot much better than this they must really be something. I am really glad I bought it.
Can confirm that browning hi power grips fit perfectly on this. I also have the m9 clone from girsan and m9 grips do not fit up perfectly and need a little modification to fit.

I have a pair of Girsan 92 clones and love them . As soon as my local dealer get one I’m getting at least one of these .
I personally really like the fact that Girsan and EAA are planning on bringing to market a HI-Power (P35) that is "modernized" with a beaver tail frame, accessory rail, and other cool features. I'm not sure if it's going to have an optic cut, but it should. I don't understand why it's taken this long. We modernized and upgraded the 1911 and the CZ-75 a long time ago. Why not do the same to the Hi-Power? You know what would be really cool? A High Powered, Hi-Power in 10MM LOL
Yet you see a lot of people howling over FN giving it a bunch of improvements. I don't get it. Like you said, the 1911 has seen tons of changes over the years and is made by about every handgun maker across the globe, but nobody complains about that... I'm all for it, i just can't afford FN pricing!
It could be done, but the grip length front to rear would be longer. Browning at one time produced a Hi Power in 40 Smith. Down side was it only held 10+1. No extended capacity mags were available, at least from FN/Browning.

I’d take the Girsan Hi-Power over the Springfield Armory.
Springfield’s 1911s and M1As are imported as parts from Imbel, which is a Brazilian company. The XDs, Hellcats and Hellions are Imported HS Produkt firearms, which are Croatian. Their AR-15s are produced under license… they really don’t make anything domestically, they either have firearms imported pre-assembled or they assemble firearms from parts, some of which are substituted for 922R compliance.
I have a 1990 IMI Jericho 941. Has the same sloped front sight but blacked out and a long dead tritium rear dot sight. I put some orange testors paint on the front slope and it actually is a decent sight picture like that. Thats a cheap fix so you can have contrast on white targets
Bought the Match version of this a couple of months ago...love it.
I recently brought the Girsan and like it a lot! Looked at the New FN Hi Power it is different from the original. Interesting though the one I looked at the fit wasn’t as good as my original 1980 Belgian made Hi power.

Bought in the mid 90's & still like new after 1000s of rounds. 100% reliable, and since I tossed the mag safety, had the trigger/hammer replaced by Cylinder and Slide consistently capable of 1 1/2'' groups at 25 yards. The gun I teach people to shoot with. Everyone that has shot it wanted to buy it. Now I need a Girsan to determine if I can make it/modify it to perform as well as my Browning
I have a Practical as well and love it. Let me save you some money, don't get the Girsan. Just trust me, pay the extra money for another Browning.

@@frankbrowning328 Slide to Frame fit, and barrel fit. Most but not ALL hi powers seem to have a loose fit when in battery ( hammer cocked), but the Girsan developed it very quickly. These are minor things and most ppl probably wouldn't even care or notice. It goes bang and is fairly accurate. I just think if you already have the Practical your expectations might not be met with the Girsan.
@@frankbrowning328 o and 1 inch groups at 25 yards, ya no the Girsan most likely won't do that. Also with the Practical you have that barrel extension nub. The Girsan does not have that. I've heard people say that doesn't effect accuracy, well I sure believe it does. How can it not?
@@dlife7427 I see. The metal may be a little soft or the tolerances too loose causing the fit of the parts to distort after firing a limited amount of ammo. Not a good sign as when this happens it tends to continue worsen. This would also explain accuracy issues. I agree. For those of us that already have a BHP the Girsan may be disappointing. Accuracy is exceptional on my BHP Practical. It's helped by a Cylinder and Slide brand matching hammer and sear that gives a very crisp 3 1/2lb trigger. With cheap 115 gr blasting ammo it will shoot 3'' groups at 25 yards. With 124 gr high quality ammo it will shoot 1 1/2'' groups at 25 yards.
Very cool! It would be nice to have a Browning high power that is relatively close to the original for half the money!

Would love to have Novak Low profile sights installed. I understand Novak does this conversion. It does require welding the OEM dovetail and re-machining. Gonna have to check with them if I aquire one.
I USED TO HAVE AN FN P35 FROM WWII . IT HAD THE LUFTWAFFE EAGLE ON THE TOP OF THE GRIPS ON THE FRAME MY UNC GOT IT OFF A GERMAN PILOT WHEN HE WAS IN FRANCE .

Just saw a new released version with the extended beaver tail and red dot setup. Comes with a red dot, but will fit the RMS/RMSc pattern dots.
Midway currently has the black, fde and grey/black in stock.
I'm looking into these and wonder if the ops/match version would be worth the price difference. I think the rails on the classic design look alright, but I definitely prefer the original silhoutte
I agree the rear is a nutty choice. Can you black out the white stripes with a black sharpie? I've done that before with guns I wanted to fix the sight picture.

Outlaw I appreciate your reviews & wisdom. Like any other sport shooting could result to injury to the practitioner. In your opinion what are the most common and could you make a video about them and maybe how to prevent them. I can’t find information on the subject.

I like that there's a good, budget Hi-power clone being produced. The sights are odd by today's standards, but a true reproduction of at least the Mark 3 Hi-powers produced by FN. Im not familiar with previous generations' sights. I think they were smaller and all black. This Girsan appears most like a mark 3 with it's external extractor, and ambi safety, however the Mark 3 usually didn't have the ring hammer or aluminum frame. The magazine disconnect was present on the original as requested by the French military. It is easily removed and not only aids in the magazine dropping free but somewhat improves trigger feel.
It appears the Browning Hi-Power is finally starting to be regarded by mainstream USA after almost a hundred years of obscurity here.

Taking out the mag disconnect does improve the trigger pull significantly.
I took my cow training on an original Browning high power. It was a really smooth shooter and easy stay on target. I wonder how close the new versions come to shoot as well. I guess it could the could shoot better. I would find that hard to believe. Definitely get one of originals. I didn’t know how gray it was until I shot other gun that touted as being the best.l that didn’t get near the Higj Power in handling and ease of aiming.

Nice review and talk about the 2 other options out there as always! The new redesigned Hi power by FN is a whole new animal and 1100.00 street price. The Girsan looks like the best value for the average guy and close to the original for about $500.00. I cant wait to see it compared to an original and the new design. The Springfield isn't an option for me as I am not a fan of them and its pretty close to the original I believe. I would black that rear and orange the front sight and remove that disconnect on day 1 if I got one. Thanks Chris! Keep more of these coming !
Yea the new FN is changed enough it ought to be an "A2" or something like that. Great update, bad price. The Girsan looks great for the price, hope to pick one up soon.
