They are so delish, I will add a little more oatmeal so they are not so sticky and difficult to put in the pan. My favorite. I’m type 2 diabetes so great snack.❤️❤️❤️
Hi Michelle, i'm 17 and I've had t1d for just over a year now. I've literally binged almost every single one of your daily vlogs aha. just want to say thanks for all of your videos, it feels so nice to be able to relate to someone
Ahhh thanks so much Maisie! I'm so happy you like my vids! It's so interesting because a lot of other T1Ds I know were not taught to subtract fibre! Maybe it doesn't matter after all haha
I've never subratacted for fibre. Wasn't a thing when I was diagnosed. But I can tell you, that if I subtracted for fibre, I'd be under bolusing based on how my b.s. reading are following eating. I'm gonna have to try those. Certainly better carb numbers than those tiny things that come out of a box.
Yuuuuummmmm! 😋 Oatmeal spikes my sugar so bad no matter how much I bolus or give myself a tiny (extra) insulin. But I need to make these bars! Thanks for the recipe!! This video also taught me how to go about counting carbs for whole recipes! 🤪
Hi, I really like how the numbers worked out to powers of 2 (math head here) and that you added the carbs the way you did.....excellent way to calculate the carbs AND eating high quality food, real food, not synthetic sugars.....we need more of this for all of us external insulin professionals! Stay safe!
Excellent , is the maple syrup you are using sweetened with sugar (not a cook) ? Cannot remember the last time I ate maple syrup. Thanks for sharing.............
Hey Michelle! So good to see that you've uploaded. I am 19 and also a type 1 diabetic. I live in the U.S., and I have been inside for 3 months, and my mom only leaves every three weeks to get groceries. Is your husband still staying at home as well? Are you still wiping down groceries? Does your husband shower and clean the bathroom after he comes home from the grocery store?
Awesome video again Michelle! Just other day I was thinking of making Granola balls(just small round shaped for quick bite). This video has given me inspiration to do that now 😃 And I don't subtract fibre and it works for me somehow 🤔
Yay I'm glad I gave you some inspiration! A lot of people don't subtract fibre and it works out haha. I'm starting to think it doesn't make a significant difference.
Hi Michelle, looks great and I am in the USA and these look great I have had t1d for 44 years. I was diagnosed at 2 years old. These look great and I am going to give making them a shot. Ty again and last thing I wanted to know the pump you have? Do you like it? I have the Medtronic 670 G and am up for a new one and am considering switching to a different pump. Please let me know if you have any other videos on this and keep up the great video's.
Hi Hank! I am on the t:slim X2 :). I have quite a few videos on my pump and how I chose my pump. I will link them here for you: choosing a new insulin pump: th-cam.com/video/dqH2hljOHto/w-d-xo.html why I chose the t:slim: th-cam.com/video/oLZjHnTE1yA/w-d-xo.html my t:slim review: th-cam.com/video/iVKB1Stz7VQ/w-d-xo.html
Can I add All Bran flakes. I had gastric bypass and I need extra fiber to keep me regular. I try to keep the salt to a minimum, can I cut out the salt? Also, you didn't mentioned if the coconut flakes are unsweetened?
Fiber does raise BG but it takes a long time similar to protein. Only insoluble fiber like vegetables skins does not add carbs as it not absorbed and sent to the bloodstream. Thats the number I subtract from my total carbs.
@@MichelleLord You are welcome! It is hard to see the effect as simple carb and sugar raise BG in minutes, fiber can take up to 2 hrs and it happens slow like +0.2 mmol here, + 0.3 mmol later and so it is hard to see it happen. Similar to protein slow steady raise. Insoluble can't be broken to glucose that one just gets out and helps with bowel movements.
Hey Joanne! Thank you so much! I haven't posted for about a month. I've been pretty busy with work, but I have some more videos coming up soon, so stay tuned :)
These are great because they keep me full! But if you are looking for things to snack on that are easy on the blood sugar, nuts are a great option (if you aren't allergic of course)!
I subtract Fibre and when I joined a diabetes group online was shocked some people don't do that. it seems to work for me. I know some people say if they don't blush's for the fibre they will go high. I also heard some people bolus for caffein like coffee, and protein What would be a good substitute for coconut? I really dislike coconut taste and texture.
These look yummy. Off topic but one day recently you said that your Dexcom was "killing" (figure of speech I know) you. I would be interested to know what it was doing.
Haha I don't remember saying that. Was it in my Instagram story? I recently posted a story about how my Dexcom said I was low, but I actually wasn't, so maybe that was it 😆
Less because I'm subtracting the fibre to get net carbs. But just do as you were taught or whatever is working for you. A lot of T1Ds aren't taught to subtract fibre when they carb count and are doing fine :)
HEY MICHELLE can you please give me some advice I feel like my mom and family have been treating me differently because of my diabetes during this quarantine for example they won't let me do certain thing a please get back to me when you can.
I really don't see how can people carb count and not subtract the fiber (unless they only eat food with little fiber in it, so it doesn't make much of a difference). Fiber is something we don't digest, so we can't metabolise it. It can't raise your blood sugar.
Those looks delicious and yes I also subtract fibre from the carbs. I was taught that by my dietician. Thanks for the recipe Michelle :)
Thank you so much Fiona!! :)
The fibre bars I eat are 7 grams per bar, but 9 grams of sugar each! I'm going to try this super easy and tasty looking recipe - thanks Michelle!
Thank you for sharing this recipe Michelle! Looks delicious! Will definitely have to try this out!
Thanks! I'm happy to share :)
They are so delish, I will add a little more oatmeal so they are not so sticky and difficult to put in the pan. My favorite. I’m type 2 diabetes so great snack.❤️❤️❤️
Here in the UK the fibre is already subtracted from the carbs on the nutritional label :)
Thank you! Can’t wait to try these. I have been missing your videos.

Yeah it's pretty quick and easy, which is nice :) ! I'm glad you enjoyed!

Great recipe! Will try it! Thank you!
Great stuff! I was told by my current endocrinology team to leave the carb account alone in my bolus (so I have success NOT subtracting for fibre)!

Great video Michelle. I love how you walked us through everything. Please please do more like this! Oh and yes I'm going to try these :)
Complex carbs are not bad for you, simple carbs can be. I can’t wait to make this granola bar :)
Loved this video! I would love to see more cooking videos on your channel 😊
Thank you! I am not someone who is really into baking/cooking, but I will try to include some more of these 😘
Thanks for sharing the recipe I really like you doing these videos. Other than coconut I agree that should be good. Keep these up please. Thanks.
Glad you like them!

We don't subtract for fiber. Love all of your videos!
I loved learning about how to bake these!!!!!! 16 times 16 - so cool!!!!!!!!!!
Will have to try this!! I do not subtract fiber.
I add a little bit of dry fruit and use zero carbs honey and and protein poweder, nuts and i do not use any oats.

@@MichelleLord Thank you so much!!
Ps there are square pans at Dollarama at College and Queen
Yum! I also subtract fibre from carbs. :)
Looking really tasty! In UK we'd probably call these flapjacks though we'd bake them for 20mins. Will keep that website bookmarked
Haha so interesting, when I hear flapjack it means pancake 😜
yes yes yes! please keep doing videos like this! And no I personally do not subtract fibre.
Thank you! I will try to make some more 😊
Meeting Dr IGUDIA TH-cam channel was the beginning of a new life for me after using his herbs medication in curing my Diabetes disease.

Looks so yummy!!!
I live in Ottawa, Ontario and my diabetes team has me including fibre in carb counting.
Trying to find things for my husband to snack on.
These are great because they keep me full! But if you are looking for things to snack on that are easy on the blood sugar, nuts are a great option (if you aren't allergic of course)!

“This girl loves carbs” 😂😍😍
Was taught to subtract carbs but actually forgot lol. I usually just wing it. However, it depends on the type of food I am eating, bg levels, etc.
Thanks for the recipe , Dear as it is not baked, what are the chances of melting in hot whether if taken to work?
I'm not sure of this because I've never taken it into hot weather - Sorry!
Michelle, what kind of pump clip do you use? i don`t like the original one.
Hey! I use a cellphone clip! I talk about it in this video :)

As a future food scientist, can I ask why you subtract the fiber from the carbs?
YOU ARE AWESOME!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww thank you 💖!!
Thanks
Michelle
You are welcome 💞😘

I subtract carbs from my count, was advised to subtract for over 5grams of carbs.

So are you taking more insulin if it is high fiber or less insulin. I’ve had type 1 for 24 years and never heard of this.
Less because I'm subtracting the fibre to get net carbs. But just do as you were taught or whatever is working for you. A lot of T1Ds aren't taught to subtract fibre when they carb count and are doing fine :)
it's so crazy that a bar with maple syrup doesn't get you high, i always thought stuff like that inevitably leads to high bs!

Good old Lawblaws lol or Metro love the clinic at sick kids as they taught me to subtract fibre if you don’t it will hit you later
I got my pump!
