In Turkish language, breakfast is ‘kahvaltı’ which literally means ‘before coffee’ which shows that Turkish people have been doing this the right way for centuries! How cool is that! ❤
Do you know that there is no such thing as Turkish coffee they knew about during the ottoman period in Egypt
@@theresahana7210 Well in fact Egypt do not have coffee, Turkish coffee means, the way Turks make coffee, actually coffee first came from Yemen (south of Arabian peninsula) , when Turks had those lands and Turks introduced Coffee to Europe in 16th century in Ottoman period, and from cultivation in Ottoman Empire, Captain John Smith got the first seeds and introduced coffee to America.. So, Turks and Turkish coffee was the bridge for coffee to be introduced to world from their land (as Yemen was ruled by Turks when coffee was first introduced). So, that why there is the thing 'Turkish coffee' term exists. As historically and gastronomically..
@@sayarci7817 it came from Yemen and the Egyptians brewed it their way when ottomans invaded Egypt they liked it and adopted their way

@ozermehtap I've never had Turkish coffee before. Have you? @RepDanCrenshaw @unitednations @GlucoseRevolution
When I lived in Europe, I never had any problems with food and was relatively thin. When I moved to North America, Hell broke loose. In a few years, I put on 40 kg and have a hard time getting rid of them. I will give this way of eating and drinking coffee a chance. Merci de tout coeur Jessie, de m'aider dans ce parcours de la combattante. But there is definitely something to say about the poor quality of produce in North America compared to Europe.
I get the impression that it's not just the produce. The flour is better there. And we allow a lot of detrimental food additives here, which are banned there.
Food is trash in the US. It’s infuriating what a fraudulent government department the FDA is. Worse than the IRS with robbing its citizens of their right to good health. I hate the food environment here, and I was born and raised here.
If you compare North America to Africa, it probably isn't news.

What about Soya milk?
There’s an excellent hack for those who don’t prefer breakfast early in the morning. In India, many people start their day with about 8-10 almonds soaked overnight in water. You peel off the skin (better for absorption, reduces the digestive discomfort) and eat the almonds chewing slowly. I find them delicious. And it’s kind of meditative. Then I head for my single cup of coffee with cow’s milk or almond milk. Blood sugar stays steady for hours. Hope this helps and Jesse, thank you!
Soaked almonds are YUM! 😋
Thanks!!
my onkel does it with walnuts☺️☺️☺️
Do you soak them with the skin on, then peel the skins off to eat them?
@@cmcneil3114yes that’s right. The skins peel off easily in the morning after a night’s soaking :)

I drink a simplified version of Bullet Proof Coffee created by Dave Asprey. I add butter and a pinch of salt to prepared coffee which is then blended for a minute. Sounds strange but if you really think about it, butter is just processed cream! The blended product comes out creamy with a head of foam and is soooooo satisfying and satiating! Try it to believe it!
Butter is fat which does not counteract blood sugar spikes as efficently as milk protein.
@@qwanyin6423wrong. Protein causes small insulin spikes, fat csuses none.
I do the same..but I turn butter into gee previously..you heat butter( has to have no salt) and remove the creamy white part...gee is healthier...😊
@@qwanyin6423 Milk actually contains glucose, the less fat the more sugar. So butter works better.

You were born for this. So authentic, passionate, intelligent, and cute. 🌹
In my opinion, heavy cream or half-and-half in coffee is the best to slow down glucose spikes. it's magic
Magic for increased risk of stroke or heart attack. It’s indisputable some fats are healthy, and cows fat is not one of those healthy fats. At least cows/soy milk has protein, calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin D which cream and half and half don’t.
I too use 2 tablespoons 10% and then add almond milk to taste.
@@GreedRuinsEverything Didn't you hear? Fasting kills! 😂
there was no mention of cream here, right? Or did I miss it?
@@GreedRuinsEverything I feel that while there may be validity to what you're saying, it slightly sounds to go against a little bit of her recommendations above. I think she'd agree with you that plain coffee is better than coffee with a creamer/milk added, but still... Animal based milks and sugar-free nut based milks are still your best options if you insist on adding them. Additionally, I've found that if yu go with a (sugar-free) nut based milk--coconut nut will have less of an impact than other nut based milks out there.

Calories in and calories out only work when you know your estimated BMR/RMR. Otherwise there's no way to know if the calories you're counting is enough or too much. Use the mifflin st jeor equation that we usually do in hospitals or getting a dexa scan which is way more accurate but the both are acceptable by the AMA here in America for legally backed BMR estimations for patients

As a type one diabetic it’s been a god send! All fact based and no fear monger if like so many other doctors who have no idea what it’s like on a daily bases. Please never stop doing what you are doing!
Also notice there’s a study that depending on your genetics coffee may increase your chances to heart attack whilst for others it diminishes.
Growing evidence shows that interindividual differences in caffeine response may be partly due to variations in genes such as CYP1A2 and ADORA2A, which have been used to identify individuals as "fast" or "slow" caffeine metabolizers and as having a "high" or "low" caffeine sensitivity, respectively

Excellent video once again! I am type 2 diabetic and old at age 75. I drink 5 to 7 mugs of coffee daily. I now only use whipping cream in my coffee and sometimes just black. Whole milk is too spikey for me. Also I am doing OMAD eating with mostly keto oriented. I now can have a bowl of regular ice cream or cake now and then which does glucose over 200. But once or twice a month perhaps does not harm me. Same with bread products; we use buttermilk white bread as it has fewer carbs. Great video and I hope to view your next one as well.
One cup of coffee with milk in the morning . I love coffee but restrict to one cup per day . Thank you Jessie . Lots of evidence based tips and advice
Hey guys. I can’t have any caffeine or even black tea. I’m sensitive to both caffeine and sugar. Any amount of caffeine sends me into a jittery panicky mess. I just can’t have it at all. I have adhd and I need my brain to be quiet. The only thing that keeps me level is exercise and lots of it. Keep up the good work Jesse! 👍

@@sarapalacios8568he may love coffee but is too sensitive. Just like the author of the video who had to cut back.
@@sarapalacios8568 do you love coffee?
Consider yourself lucky! I wish I didn’t need coffee to wake up, but I’m a creative type/natural night owl, and living in an early bird kinda world is tough on me. If you wake just fine without caffeine then you can do a different morning routine like hot water and lemon, or invent your own “morning cup” of health benefits. Coffee’s main magic is the effects of caffeine giving us energy (which you already have?) Plus the routine = reward center, part of our brains. You can mimic that in your own way !
Coffee doesn’t give you energy. That’s a red herring right there. Caffeine is a psychoactive substance that mimics energy by activating the adrenal glands and releasing the stress hormone cortisol which gives you the buzzy feeling. To someone with a disregulated nervous system, caffeine is a no no. It can cause anxiety and panic. It’s not for everyone. Some people can handle it, some can’t
I love your overall presentation, lots of energy happening. Your docs are clean and easy for the eye to read. Well done. 🎉

I truly appreciate the insight on coffee. I drink my coffee black no cream and no sugar. This is my morning routine prior to breakfast. Not sure I can wait until after breakfast. Thanks
My particular case, sugar consistently stays in range. The coffee alone to get rid of cobwebs, etc., in the 🌄 makes sense: The acid acts upon the insides and the central nervous system. That mention of pistachio milk had sugar most plausibly was intended as a preservative. You do great each time !
In the oat milk latte comparison (12:25), the brand listed has 17 grams of added sugar per serving (240ml) for a total of 25g of carbs. I blend my own oat milk from an oat milk powder (e.g., Norcal Organic) which has only a single ingredient (oats!). It has 15g of carbs, 4 being natural occurring sugars, 1 being fiber. I sweeten with a monk fruit/erythritol combo, flavor with vanilla and add healthy fats (avocado & macadamia nut oils) to improve mouthfeel. With mostly complex carbs, I would imagine a very different spike compared to the Pacific Foods oat milk or the Horizon milk which has 12g of sugars.
Jessie in my view, your video content is the best choreographed & narrated videos on TH-cam
Thankfully nowadays people aware about glucose, glucose spike, etc than ever before. This is my favourite channel now. I really like to drink coffee, I love how it tastes, I love the smell, I usually drink it black, or with 1 teaspoon of sugar and milk/cream. Depending on the mood. I used to drink 5 or more cups per day, then replaced it with water. Now I have a cup of warm water in the morning and 3-5 cups of water in a day, but also 2-3 cups of coffee somewhere in a day. I'm curious of what this video will tell me.
As my coffee water gets close to boiling (pour-over) I put some of that hot water into a cup, squeeze whatever citrus I have on hand into it, cool with water, and sip it, feeling the cleansing wash into my conduits, replacing lost overnight moisture, and tempering the coffee that' s just around the corner.
My absolute favorite is to have herbal tea in the morning, and coffee just before lunch -heaven! but I'm addicted to early coffee. Not the coffee itself, but the taste, the ritual, and fortunately like it black and weak. Jessie is right on. Takes a bit more discipline than I usually have...

I'm always thirsty, but I drink a lot of water and still feel thirsty. my skin breakout a lot, sometimes I feel dizziness when i close my eyes and Sit down and then stand up. So i decided to quit drinking coffee, and now i feel better. But i also changed my eating habit, do a little exercise everyday. in the beginning of change process, it was really hard, the first 4 days i found it really hard without coffee, a bit sleepy even though i got enough sleep. And then everything gradually got better

For those who don't know, the Kirkland brand of almond milk at Costco is unsweetened and pretty cheap at $15 for a 12-pack of 32 oz boxes. You don't have to be a member to buy it online and the non-member fee is very small.
Unless you buy (or make homemade) almond milk from blanched almonds, most almond milk is manufactured with whole almonds, which means the skin is included in the making of the almond milk and it contains both lectins and phytic acid.
So it's definitely not a good choice if you use it daily.
Almonds are great and tasty, but like any nuts and seeds, not good every day because of those compounds.
Phytic acid can impair mineral absorption in your diet.
Oxalic acid is another "anti-nutrient" that can hinder mineral absorption.
@@pat4005 Right. And eating too many nuts will tear your stomach apart because of that. I usually prefer whole milk but I'll use nut milk if I want to keep carbs under 20 grams per day.

Three tbls of organic heavy cream in my one cup of half decaf coffee. OMAD 19/5 for months now. Numbers are good... Mostly moderate ketosis and sometimes high ketosis.
Did you loose weight with that and how much would love to know it
@mariumk5206 Yes, 35 lb lost so far. Started slow on 12.01. 2023 with no great expectations. Just want to get healthy and lose 50lbs. In the last week I have done 16/8 by adding a meal at 6pm. Moderate walking is my exercise. I believe I am still losing because my body has become fat adapted. On occasion I fall off the wagon. But I don't beat myself up about it... I just get back on the wagon.

I simply adore you. Your content and way of presenting are magnifique!
Salt is great. It cuts back on the bitterness, and it complements the potassium content in coffee.
Wow! Salt? Sounds crazy, and smart, so I will definitely!!
Cheers(:
@@Rickuttto yeah. Alton Brown has spoken about it.
Agree
Salt
Taste good with coffee
More people drink coffee with salt in Ethiopia where coffee is originated from.
Black Coffee with half squeeze lemon ? Is this still ok?

Great info. My current favorite way to have my coffee is a dark roast in a French press, with a tblspn of grass fed butter, half a scoop of collagen into the blender on high (it’s like steaming or frothing milk) and some Ceylon cinnamon on top. Although finding a coffee shop willing to do this has been difficult but I did find one after a few years, I don’t go out much so it’s not been a big deal to me.
I knew that Kenyan coffee is a winner… no seriously, it’s such a good video. Bravo!
Hey there Goddess! I'm just like you: having just one cup of coffee a day can mess with my sleep. So lately I'm having one cup of (black) coffee minutes before I hit the gym. I go to the gym at noon (when my clients leave me alone for lunch) and just before I hit the thread mill (to walk my 5km of every day) then I have my cup of coffee. I usually dont have breakfast, all I have in the morning is that vinegar tablespoon in a tall glass of water, as you told me too ;) and I feel so great! And it seems that by walking the 5km makes the caffeine run out in less than 8 hours, cause I can sleep well eventhough I had the coffee. Cool isn't it? I have lunch around 1PM as I get back from the gym and I eat the way you taught: vegies first, than proteins and fats and carbs for the last. Sweet! Thanks for all those tips! I'm 53 and I feel like I'm 30 when I follow this routine
Here are some key studies and their authors that have linked coffee consumption to negative health outcomes:
1. Cardiovascular disease:
- A study by Greenberg et al. (2008) published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that heavy coffee consumption (more than 4 cups per day) was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events in individuals with preexisting hypertension or obesity.
2. Insomnia and sleep disturbances:
- A study by Drake et al. (2013) published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that caffeine intake, including from coffee, was associated with increased sleep disturbances and shorter sleep duration.
3. Anxiety and restlessness:
- A systematic review by Navarro et al. (2017) published in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry found that high coffee consumption (more than 4 cups per day) was associated with an increased risk of anxiety disorders.
4. Bone health:
- A study by Rapuri et al. (2001) published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that caffeine consumption, primarily from coffee, was associated with lower bone mineral density in elderly women.
5. Gastric issues:
- A study by Feldman et al. (1997) published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that coffee consumption, particularly decaffeinated coffee, was associated with an increased risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
How come decaff?
Super, professional and a lot of work! Very nice review and explanations.
I usually don't add any sweetener to my coffee. But I do put some dandelion root in the cone along with the ground coffee, and I use a lot (a LOT) of cream. Technically, she was speaking on types of "milks," and cream is virtually fat, so different from milk. It would be interesting to see studies comparing the different types of dairy milk, vs. half-and-half, vs. cream.
After I started drinking water with vinegar a day. I no longer want to drink coffee.
I was just wondering about coffee after watching your other videos and … poof, there is the answer. Very timely upload!
You are a true gem! Thank you for sharing all of this information ❤
Great points. I like that she give us alternatives. There’s no obsession on diets just sensible flexible advice. The studies are questionable though but overall good video! Thanks!
