Fantastic video! I'd like to share a few things:
    - Benzoyl peroxide can bleach your hair! So watch out for that.
    - Change your pillow case as often as you can and try and use silk pillow cases as they aren't as abrasive as other ones.
    - I'm sure you've heard that you need water and maybe you're like: "it doesn't do anything!" Ok so hear me out, Dehydration causes acne and even if you don't feel a difference straight away, it's because it's working below the surface.. So try and Drink at least 2 Litres a Day
    - when you shower and wash of conditioner don't let the residue remain on your face, neck, back or chest.. as this can cause breakouts, just use a small amount of gentle cleanser to wash these areas and to avoid over-cleansing be sure to incorporate this into your skincare routine.
    - Good luck

2 litres? That's such bad advice ya'll we're taught. If you consume that much water a day, you wash out the nutrients your body is supposed to absorb. Enough water differing per tolerable intake is just as good.

For anyone reading, make sure to apply the neutrogena hydro boost to a damp face. Don’t completely pat your face dry. Just leave your face wet, let the excess water drip off, and apply the hyaluronic acid moisturizer onto slightly damp skin. Hyaluronic acid (and actually all moisturizers) work much better on damp skin to seal in water and prevent trans epidermal water loss.

This video has been such a blessing. I have been suffering with episodes of rosacea during the past year or so - but never really understood what was going on until about 4 weeks ago - then my skin made itself perfectly clear (or should I say flaming red and unclear) about what the story was. I have been using Benzac Ac 5% gel now for exactly a week, sounds like I did my usual and went full force (without researching the product properly), I went straight for the 5% and did the following: cleansed with neutrogenia foaming facial cleanser - piled it on and let it dry. I did this twice a day and walked around looking like a ghost hahaha. it seems I might have got off lightly with that particular regime! When I woke up this morning (looking like I was 150 years old and feeling like my skin was dying of thirst), I wondered if there was perhaps something instructional online which would tell me that this was "normal".Thank god for your video Dr. Bailey - tonight I went out and brought the Cetaphil Cleanser and the Moisturising cream. I'm waiting for the moisturiser to dry before I apply the Benzac for an overnight application. My skin after only a week (and lets face it - I've treated it pretty harshly), has really improved with the Benzac - I was however about to throw it in this morning ... Tonight I am amazed at how my skin is looking after applying the additional products.Just wanted to share my story and say thank you.

Thank you for the video!😊 Benzoyl peroxide personally worked as wonder! I have combination skin so i tend to breakout now and then (most around my periods) i have normal acne condition btw. I do have blackheads on my nose and whiteheads around it as well. I have been using it past 1 month and here is what i do every night - wash my face with sulphate free face-wash and apply aloevera gel by faceshop, massage it well and then I apply 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel as spot treatment (leaving eye area and upperlips as sensitive parts) so what benzoyl peroxide does - reduce active acne and dries it up (peels off the dead skin layer from the skin) lightens acne spots or scars to vanishing them completely (yes! You heard me! Benzoyl peroxide vanished my acne spots completely!) if any day i feel my skin has became dry or i have been using benzoyl peroxide too much then i stop using it for a day or two and moisture my face well. So now i have spotless and acne free skin :) once in a while i get acne due to changes that i bring in my diet , harmonal changes or climate. But my skin is much better than before for sure! Always go with less % when using chemicals on the face and then they’ll show you amazing results. It takes time to heal depending upon how is one’s face condition. So start using gel based or emulsion moisturiser am-pm and a good sunscreen everyday ✨🧿

Yes definitely use moisturizer. Cerave PM is excellent and also contains niacinamide which is anti inflammatory, calming, and can actually prevent and control acne.
Moisturizing the skin has actually been shown through research to prevent and control acne. Acne is caused by inflammation, and moisturizing the skin controls that inflammation and can reduce acne. And it’s unfortunate that so many people with acne don’t moisturize because most people with acne have oily skin so they think they don’t need it. ALL skin types need moisturizer.

Thank you for this info! I’m mainly treating hyperpigmentation/dark spots on my face with various serums such as Niacinamide & Alpha Arbutin at night, & Vitamin C/SPF in the morning. I am also going to start using a licorice toner to aid in that. Although that is my main focus I have some small breakouts on my chin area that I’d like to solve with BP. I have some questions regarding my routine if I added BP:
Should I use the BP both morning and night on the breakout?
Can it be used in conjunction with my serums and in what order should they go if so?
Can I leave the BP on all night?
(I have oily/acne prone skin if that helps!)

I used to use BP 2.5% lotion every night on my face with no problems for a long while, and one day I woke up to a severely red face that was also a little puffy, and it felt like a sunburn, and I think it was because I developed contact dermatitis from it... maybe it was also because it became summer, and the heavy sunlight that shone through my window... I was so disappointed because it was one of the only things that worked for me. I think I may have to start using your method of applying it for 1-2 hours and then washing it off instead of keeping it on all night, because I guess I just became sensitized to it! anyhow, this was so helpful, thanks so much!

Hi, Dr. Sam. I've been using the BP Gel for about two years now. I have always applied BP before using a moisturizer as the BP would make my skin feel dry and have white patches wherever I applied. Thus using a moisturizer to mask it. Am I, perhaps, using too much BP?

    Hello Doctor Sam!
I have 2 questions for ya.
Question 1: usage of Benzoyl Peroxide
I have been using this for 2 weeks and it did helps to clear my acne but the thing is everytime I apply it on my face it will itch so much that I would pat my face with my fingers to smooth the itch... I'm not sure if is normal... Also, my doctor told me that I should use it as day cream so I only applied during the day and I washed it off during my shower... Btw, I'm using the same cream as yours as it was recommended by my Doctor...
Question 2: the way I applied those cream is it in a correct manner?
    My morning routine:
    1) wash my face with cold water
    2) Pat dry using tissue
    3) Apply moisturizer
(brand: Aquaeous cream recommend by doctor)
    4) Apply Benzoyl Peroxide
    My Night routine:
    1) wash face with cold water
    2) Pat dry with tissue
    3) Apply moisturizer (brand: as mentioned in my morning routine)
    4) Apply Tretinoin 0.025% cream (uses it as night cream as mentioned by my doctor)
    Thank you Doctor Sam 😊

    • @DrSamBailey
      @DrSamBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

As long as the itch isn't too distressing, i'd keep going. Sometimes itch can mean allergy to it, but if you don't have peeling/redness etc it should be fine.
      2. This is how I'd do your routine:
      My morning routine:
      1) wash my face with cold water
      2) Apply moisturizer to wet face
(brand: Aquaeous cream recommend by doctor)
      My Night routine:
      1) wash face with cold water
      2) Apply moisturizer (brand: as mentioned in my morning routine) to wet face
      3) Wait 20-30 mins for cream to absorb
      4) Apply Tretinoin 0.025% cream (uses it as night cream as mentioned by my doctor) + apply pea sized amount of benzoyl peroxide
The benzoyl peroxide will work more effectively when combined with tretinoin. You can use Bp in the morning if you want to, but I prefer this way. Hope it helps!

The 5% BP has been working well for me. I was just wondering, can I put moisturiser over it in the morning?

Should we exfoliate also? Wash cloth or gentle scrub every so often

No worries Kuhu. I'd use Glycolic acid the following day if you can - so at least 10 hours after using BP.

Hello, I am Iranian and I have a question. The doctor prescribed me Gelac Cure. Is the gel you are using the same as my doctor prescribed?

hey Doc! I am a teen (guy) who is really desperate about getting rid of acne , and I have a doubt whether it is okay or not to use rose water as a moisturiser after applying Benzoyl peroxide .
    Reply plsss 😋

Hi Joe, yes you can use it. I'd use it 30 mins before you apply BP. I like to use Benzoyl Peroxide last at night before bed.

Hi Dr. Sam! I've been getting cystic pimples on my cheeks, and have been having bad breakouts lately. I just purchased Benzoyl Peroxide (Benzac 5% gel), but I don't know how to squeeze it into my skincare routine.
My nighttime skincare routine is a mild salicylic acid cleanser, serum, moisturizer, and eye cream. How should I go about it? Thank you!

Hi Myka, if you are able - I'd just switch some things to the morning.
      So night time:
      non-SA cleanser >> moisturizer + eye cream >> 30 mins >> BP
      Morning: SA cleanser >> moisturizer/SPF
      I'd skip the serum honestly.

@@DrSamBailey Hi Dr. Sam! Thanks for responding! I'll definitely try it this week and let you know. Also, I would love to see your take on the whole skincare routine that's on trend nowadays (since I noticed you mentioned that I should skip the serums). I love how informative your channel is!

Hi @@DrSamBailey! It's been a month since I started using Benzoyl Peroxide, and my skin is finally healing! Except for the hyperpigmentation I still have from the mild acne, what can I do to alleviate this? Also, should I continue using benzoyl peroxide? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi DR Sam! Can benzoyl peroxide & adapalene be used together? If yes, how do we use it?

    • @DrSamBailey
      @DrSamBailey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, exactly the same as what I described in this video, but add the adapalene to the skin at the same time as you use BP in a pea sized amount
