  • [NEW VIDEO] HOW TO USE BENZOYL PEROXIDE FOR ACNE - • BENZOYL PEROXIDE FOR A...
    Oh, I hate acne so much.. it's ever hard to explain 😀
    As I said in the video I've already posted two TH-cam videos for benzoyl peroxide but I received so many question in the comments and that made me feel like I didn't explain well enough. So here it is... another video with more details, pics and videos from when I started using benzoyl peroxide and even more information.
    In this video I show you how to use benzoyl peroxide gel for acne step by step, how to pick the right products, what are the annoying side effects and how to prevent (as much as you can) the dryness and the irritation from BP when you first start using it.
    Also in the video I promised to share few helpful links so here they are:
    - My first video for BP: • BENZOYL PEROXIDE: BEST...
    - My second video for BP: • HOW TO USE BENZOYL PER...
    - How to poke a pimple (P.S. There're many videos about how to pick a pimple, but I recommend this method because I've tested it and it works): • How to pop a pimple - ...
    - Video for Glycolic Acid (Chemical peel that helped me get rid of the hyperpigmentation a.k.a the dark spots from acne): • GLYCOLIC ACID ... FOR ...
    - As I said in the video, many brands have sets that include cleanser, benzoyl peroxide gel and a moisturiser. I believe that it's best, especially in the beginning to buy such set instead of buying the products separately. The products in the set are usually designed to work better together and it also saves you a lot of headaches to try to put a skincare routine together. I've been using The Regimen by Acne.org and I recommend it, it definitely works: store.acne.org

    Thank you so much! I started this treatment a few weeks ago and it can be very discouraging to see the skin get so dry at the beginning. However, it has been helping a little bit with the inflammation from the acne. It is such a relief to hear you remind us that this treatment takes time... Ater ten years with acne on and off, it can be so depressing trying to treat it with no success. I am very hopeful for this treatment though. Thanks for your advice!

      Hi Carla, you're very welcome! I agree it can be soooo depressing and lonely as people around you don't understand the struggle. I've been also suffering from acne for about 10 years and nothing helped me but this skincare routine. I'm sure it will help you as well. If it doesn't help means you're doing something wrong .. find what it is and keep going, don't give up ❤️ I'm here if you need any help!

      Yeah, maybe start using it every other day first.. now that you've used it for 2 days and you've noticed irritation, it's better to stop using it completely for about 2, 3 day so your skin can get back to normal, then start applying only a pea size every other day only in the evening. After that you can slowly increase the amount. There will be some irritation the first month for sure but it should be bearable. Good luck 🥰

      Hi Noelle, in the beginning it’s best to apply pea size only in the evening for a week or two, then you can slowly increase the size and apply it twice a day. That way the side effects won’t be that bad and you’ll give your skin the time to get used to it.
      Ps if your acne isn’t that bad you can keep using it only in the evening.

    Hi, thanks for this video. I'm on my 5th day of using benzoyl peroxide and the skin around my mouth seems to be really dry and is about to peel but it's also getting dark in there, almost same like yours in the picture of your skin during your 4th day of benzoyl peroxide. At this point, am I supposed to stop using BP for couple days or should I keep continuing using it? I'm afraid it'll cause scars. Please let me know. Also what type of laser treatment did u get for the acne scars?

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Sahar, if you have started using bp slowly (only a pea size only in the evening for the first few weeks) then there's no reason to stop it, some dryness, redness and irritation is normal. If the dryness around your mouth is too much just skip one application or just don't apply anywhere near the mouth for 1, 2 days.
      If you're using 5% or more and/or you apply it twice a day.. for sure your skin will get very irritated so it's best to stop it for few days and start it again but this time slowly.

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried laser once but my skin didn't react at all.. so for me it was a complete waste of money and I decided to try something else instead. I did Radio Frequency (RF) Microneedling + PRP ..it's quite expensive but very effective not only for the acne marks & scars but for wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness etc..
      However there're so many different type of lasers, I think some of them are effective but not sure which one exactly. If you have only dark spots from the acne or the sun.. chemical peel is great, they're affordable and get rid of the hyperpigmentation/dark spots.. but won't help much for acne scars for example.

    I was using BP and it was my holy grail because it keeps acne away. Except the occasional 1 or 2 every other month. But since stopping the BP the acnes came back again for a good 2 years or so. So now I’m back on BP again. 1 week of BP and it’s definitely the worst, but with BP it’s all about giving it time to work.

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey, yes.. unfortunately I still use it. From what I read.. benzoyl peroxide unclogs the pores and prevents future comedones from forming, so for acne-prone skin it just becomes part of the skincare routine for years.
      Acne.org suggest that you can try to stop using it once you're confident your skin won't break out (apparently after sometime your skin is no longer acne-prone but I don't know how this works). I've read in their forum some people use it only once a day - in the evening.. after they've cured the acne or have reduced the quantity.
      Sorry I couldn't explain it with few words only 😄 I hope you understood me.

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      me neither, but I read it in few different websites .. apparently there was a study and that's what they found out.
      So acne.org advises to start using BP this way (that's how I started it as well):
      1. a pea size of 2.5% bp only once a day in the evening for 1 week or a bit longer if your skin is still irritated.
      2. Once you feel like your skin is getting used to it you can start applying in the mornings as well..
      3. Every week or so you can increase the amount of bp until it covers the whole face (or the areas where you have pimples).
      If you start using it this way you will still have dryness and irritation but it won't be that much.. If at some point you feel like your skin is too dry you can skip one application.

  • @cortezcristaa

    thank you for this explanation. I’ve been using bp for 4 weeks and yesterday my skin was clear and smooth. and now it’s really red and I have this burning feeling. I think it’s because I shaved my face yesterday or because I didn’t apply much lotion

      You know it happens to me sometimes even though I’ve been using it for almost two years. It can be from anything .. sometimes when it’s too hot I think my skin gets sensitive 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway it probably happened because of the shaving .. just skip 1, 2 applications and it should be fine :)

      Hi, I've been told that it's ok to use them together just not when you first start BP because your skin is too irritated. I waited for about 2 months for my skin to get used to BP, then I added GA into my routine. I apply it only at night, you can either apply it instead of the moisturiser or mix it with your moisturiser, I prefer the second option (I use 10% and I've noticed that it's a bit too strong for my skin to use it on its own so I always mix it with the moisturiser).

    Just recently bought the cerave 4% foaming benzoyl peroxide face wash along with the cerave moisturizing lotion for after. Do I still need to cleanse my face with another cleaner before the cerave one? Or is that one alone enough?

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hector, one cleanser is more than enough. Use the 4% BP face wash twice a way - in the evenings and in the mornings and then moisturise the skin with the lotion. Just keep in mind that a cleanser with BP isn't strong enough to make a huge difference so if your acne is stubborn and mild/severe it's better to use the gel as we keep the gel for about 10-12 hours on the skin and that allows it to treat the acne better the cleaner which we wash within seconds. Good luck with your treatment ☘️ I'm sorry for the late reply!

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the beginning I advise you to keep it simple .. cleanser, BP, moisturiser.. because your skin would get very irritated when you first start using benzoyl peroxide and every additional product might irritate it even more. After a month or two you can try to add the serum into your skincare routine.

      Regarding the spot treatment, in my opinion it doesn't work great. The pimples where you've applied BP will disappear after a while but your skin will produce more pimples.. it's best to treat the whole skin where you get pimples.

    Can you buffer benzoyl peroxide to prevent irritation? (Moisturizer before benzoyl peroxide) Also, does benzoyl peroxide help with textured skin? Last question, I only have breakouts on my forehead, so should I apply only on my forehead?❤️💞

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would say yes, apply it only on your forehead, no need to torture the rest of your face too lol
      As far as I know the pores have to be clean so BP can penetrate and medicate. I doubt that it will work if you use the moisturizer first, anyway the irritation is just in the first months and you’re lucky because the forehead doesn’t get as irritated as the chicks 😊
      What do you mean by textured skin? If you mean large pores, small bumps and big pimples.. yes, it will help but won’t help with acne scars unfortunately.

      Okay, let's see why it might not have worked..
      1. Irritation.. Check if you do anything to irritate your skin. Irritation plays a HUGE role when it comes to acne. That could be: touching your face throughout the day, not so soft pillow case, wearing a hat (basically everything that is somehow touching your skin).
      2. Different brands BP are slightly different, so maybe the brand that you use doesn't suit you.
      3. You don't moisturise your skin enough or/and the moisturiser doesn't suit you.
      4. Do you change your towel and pillow case regularly?
      5. Keep it simple, too many products sometimes actually make the skin look worse than better.

    You used la roche posay spf, and alcohol is the second ingredient which is high, having dry skin with BP along with an spf with alcohol is damaging and will increase the flakiness right?

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's correct but funny enough I was using another spf when I first started using bp which irritated my skin so much so I switched to this one which is absolutely amazing, it doesn't irritated the skin and it's very easy to apply because it's very liquid-y. 😍

      I like La Roche-Posay Anthelios Fluid Sun Cream SPF50.. because it's liquid it's much easier to apply after you've applied 2 products earlier (bp and the moisturiser). Also it doesn't dry the skin and it doesn't look greasy.

      Hey, since benzoyl peroxide really irritates the skin in the beginning (until the skin gets used it, after that it doesn’t) there're two ways to start using it in order to avoid/reduce the irritation:
      1. Either apply a pea size of it only in the evening for 1, 2 weeks (+moisturiser) then you can slowly increase the amount and use it twice a day.
      2. The other way is to apply it then wash it after some time and then to apply the moisturiser.
      You should pick one of the methods ..I did it the first way, so I don't know how the washing method works.

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, my skin also got darker than my hands .. it looked like I had tan, later it disappeared. Regarding the glycolic acid, I think acne.org suggests to start using it after 30 days, however my skin was still too irritated after the 30th day so I believe I started it maybe after 40 days and even then I couldn’t apply too much of it. So considering your skin is still flaky and dry I would suggest you wait maybe another two weeks or so?

      Hi Krystina, so I haven't used niacinamide with bp but someone commented here that is fine to be used in the same day, so you can use the serum in the morning, BP in the evening (not sure if you can use them one after another, you need to google it).
      P.S my advice is don't apply anything before BP.. let it penetrate into the pores and does its job :)))

    How long did it take your burn to go away when you used too much of the benzoyl peroxide? And, did you use the benzoyl peroxide while the skin was burned?

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I don’t think it’s a good idea to apply it on burned skin. Once I reached a point where my skin was too painful I realized I made a mistake so I emailed acne.org as I was using their products and they said to completely stop it for few days. For about 3 days I used only cleanser and moisturizer twice a day and my skin got back to normal, then I started again but this time slowly and it never got that irritated.

It’s the third day and I’m not sure if I should stop I don’t have cystic acne just white heads and red bumps and black heads and it seemed to clear up a bit it’s my third day the itching is just the worst any suggestions?

      I have sensitive skin and I think my dermatologist just started off too high with the BP being 5% but is this itching normal purging or a reaction? I used twice on one day once on the next and once today.

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lexie, I don't know why doctors prescribe 5% and 10% bp, they're too harsh! My dermatologist also prescribed me 5% years ago and I simply gave up and stopped using it because my skin was red and burning! Later I found acne.org and they recommend it's best to use 2.5% as it's as effective as the high percentages but less irritating!
      So here's what I can advise you:
      1. Stop using Clindamycin 1% and BP 5% for few days and let your skin recover. You can still use cleanser and moisturiser.
      2. Meanwhile get 2.5% BP.. and when your skin is back to normal start using it but make sure you start using it SLOWLY.. only a pea size, only in the evening the first week, then you can start applying it twice a day and slowly increase the amount. (If you don't have cystic acne maybe applying it only in the evening is enough?) Keep in mind that some redness & dryness is normal the first month when you start using BP (however it should be bearable).
      Regarding Clindamycin 1%.. I've never used it so I can't comment on that. Maybe it's best to use it as your doctor advised you.

      Since benzoyl peroxide really irritates the skin in the beginning (until the skin gets used it, after that it doesn’t) there're two ways to start using it in order to avoid/reduce the irritation:

      I've noticed a significant difference after about a month, however it looked much better and without any pimples only after the 3rd month. I believe this is different for everyone depending on how severe your acne is etc, but in general don't expect miracles, it does take a while.

    I usually leave it on for 2 hours & wash it off with normal water….the result is slowly showing….my mild acne has minimise but not not completely
    So since I started with whole face today
    I am worried does the 2.5 gel cause skin purging & please please help me out with the right way to apply it…
    Do I leave it on.. followed by a moisturiser or just wash it off after 2 hours of application & followed by a moisturiser…

    Hi! Some people say that we should wash off the BP after 10-15 minutes and then apply a moisturizer. Is that true ? or do I have to leave it on without washing it off and then apply a moisturizer?

    • @nadiazayatmakeup
      @nadiazayatmakeup  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Carmelo, so when you first start using benzoyl peroxide your skin isn't used to it and you might experience some side effects like dryness, itchiness and redness. In order to avoid these side effects experts recommend to start using BP slowly. There're two common ways - one is to apply it and wash it after some time (I have never tried this way so I'm not sure how it works), the other way is to start with applying a pea size of BP only in the evening for a week or two and then to slowly increase the amount - this is the way I introduced BP to my skin. I have explained how I used it step by step in this video th-cam.com/video/kXxaX7iEMrU/w-d-xo.html I hope it would help you x
