Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly is one product I will never stop using. It is my skins lifesaver, without it my face will be super flakey, and dry even with good moisturizers because of the way my skin is and where I live. But everything else I do agree with, especially rubbing alcohol and bar soap.
i somehow jumped to that one 1st :O then had to go back and screenshot all of them just to make sure it was a legit page, then i sent them to everyone Buahahaha
Agree with everything except Petroleum Jelly. I can understand not using it all the time since it can clog the pores and is heavy, but it’s saved me many of times when my skin has reacted harshly. When I discovered I was allergic to Menthol and especially after using Proactiv, my skin was set on fire and it was dry, burnt, and felt miserable, and I couldn’t find any aloe products without alcohol (which enhances the burn and dries me out too) So I used petroleum jelly, and my gosh it calmed my skin down and healed itself much faster. And I definitely disagree saying not to use it anywhere else in the body too. Legit got burned all over my stomach and legs from steaming hot soup that fell into my lap and between the constant towels being dipped into a bucket of ice water every ten seconds by mom, the petroleum jelly in thick layers helped tremendously as well. I think things like that can be used in moderation, just yeah, not the other things mentioned, at least not to the face.
Hi, I just saw your reply and thought I’d recommend what I use, I bought an aloe Vera plant and it grows really nicely. It doesn’t take long before I slice off a ‘spear’ cut it open widthways. I scrape it off with the edge of a spoon. I grew it, so I know it’s organic and it’s always fresh plus it’s hygienic. 👍
My skin got better when I stopped using bar soap on my face. I started using a local brand available in my country, which is a "mild & water-based" cleanser. And thank goodness, my skin got smoother and pimples are slowly healing. Take note, I am acne prone.
Ik you are pranking me scara not falling for your tricks again. I'm gonna tell all about you to your mom hahaha, you're finished scara the divine asian slipper shall strike you down
And all facial cleansers are water base unless you are double cleansing at night to remove spf and makeup. You could use a gel cleanser and be just fine, unless you try to use oil base/cleansing balm that are only meant for double cleansing as first step. Chances are you are not really acne-prone, you just used soap... which is different. If your cleanser does not have ingredients that target acne but your acne still went away... then you might just have sensitive skin or you sensitized your skin with the soap
@@mile_851 You got that wrong. Not all facial cleansers are pH balanced. Most of it are too alkaline (just like bar soaps) which are also above the face's pH level. And don't tell me all cleansers are water-based, because they are not. Some are gel type, foaming, some have thick consistency, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is water-based. If you have pH level paper strips to test out facial cleansers, then go test it for yourself and discover. pH 5 to 6 are considered acidic and it falls within the exact level of your skin. I have tested out past facial washes that I once thought were mild but when I tested them out, I was surprised most of them are pH 8 to 9 and it signifies alkalinity. Which means they are too stripping of the skin's natural moisture barrier. To sum everything up, facial washes aren't all mild.
I used to use crème LA MER , and many brand creams. I’m sorry but I don’t agree about Vaseline being bad, it’s a myth . It’s the best thing I used in years. I read a lot about it and spoke to dermatologist. Doesn’t make your skin break out - unless of course you use ridiculous amounts every day - just like any other cream. Seriously I’ve used all the best creams , and I never thought I’d END UP WITH VASELINE!!

Depends on the bar soap, but for the typical bar soaps for hands (that I haven't seen in decades unless I go to my grandparent's house), yea avoid that type of bar soap on the face. 2. Petroleum jelly is fantastic to put on the face. Dermatologists love it. No other moisturiser is better for preventing transepidermal water loss. It's not "pore clogging" and we have known that for many decades. No ingredient in typical skin care is just straight up "pore clogging" anyway, that term has a very peculiar history. It doesn't get absorbed into the body at all. You can't develop an immune reaction to it because it doesn't bind with proteins. I think this guy might be confused with crude oil or something... I'd recommend just checking out Dr Dry on youtube, she's a dermatologist. 3. Body moisturizer is absolutely fine for your face. It's primarily a thickness difference. Standard moisturizers can be used wherever and this is also why dermatologists are so over "under-eye cream". Absolutely does not clog pores. This guy needs to learn more about supposed "pore clogging" and where this shit came from (rabbit ears and backs and such). Okay now he's selling his own face moisturizer... this is reminding me of companies trying to say that under-eye cream is fundamentally required. 4. The rubbing alcohol type of alcohol is used in MANY skin care products, and is required for a lot of them to work. There's no problem with using this. But if you were to just apply straight up rubbing alcohol alone, that would be pretty hardcore and, likely not recommended. I don't know if people even do that, I suppose some do. 5. Sounds like a biohazard ._. Wow that was not super great... Yea, Dr Dray. She's awesome.
Petroleum jelly is actually recommended by dermatologists for people with issues like ezcema and really dry skin. It can be very healing, but I wouldn't use it every day. As long as the person is washing their face thoroughly, morning and night, it shouldn't clog their pores. It really helps with my dry lips, during all seasons, and keeps my hands smooth.
There are way better prescriptions and ingredients to keep eczema under control. Petroleum products are still comedogenic aka clogs pores and other issues. In some cases it can act as a protective barrier
Might as well use coconut oil then because it’s basically the clean and safe version of that. Both will clog your pores(most people). But at least coconut oil isn’t a byproduct of OIL REFINING. It’s right in the name: PETROLeum. It’s nasty af and was just pushed by manufacturers as a way to make more money from oil. There’s no research that it’s good for you when we have other proven safe options. But there is research that was petroleum used on rats, and the rats grew tumors. Organic cold pressed coconut oil actually has anti viral and anti bacterial properties. You wanna rub nasty ass petrol on your lips? Go ahead, but watch out for skin cancer.

I believe that beautiful skin starts from the inside. What we eat and drink as well as the air we breath is shown on our skin. So maybe consume your antioxidants rather than putting it on your face.
Well, there are people that no matter how conscious in everything they eat, they still have these loads of pimples on their face. You, probably were born with perfect skin and so it is easy for you to just say, it is all about what we consume. How about those people that are naturally oily in which they are more prone to getting pimples and the only way for them to treat it is by taking medications and through different kinds of creams? Yes, eating healthy can help but sometimes it isn’t enough to treat certain skin problems.
kim chi I totally agree with you. As a general way of life, we should do our best to eat right for good skin. With many people that simply is not nearly enough.
Jasmine Lola that’s wonderful for you now, but as you age lifestyle and of course genetics will play a part. We take care of ourselves not just for the present but more importantly for the future.
As a general side note, eating anti oxidants won't do much of anything because your kidneys clear out 90% of all the gunk in the things you digest. Antioxidants won't help with your face and you can't clear out your organs and stomach by eating them, even if they are healthy foods. Antioxidants directly on your face however does help because it fights off crap in the air throughout the day. It's completely purposeful to make cleansers or moisturizers or sunscreens antioxidant because it will actually help your skin, instead of digesting antioxidants which won't do anything
The one thing that surprised me (besides #1…) was petroleum jelly. I’ve used Vaseline and Aquaphor for years, and let me tell you, they were the ONLY things that helped with my dry, cracked, bleeding lips. Not to mention there’s a thing called slugging where people will use Vaseline or Aquaphor over gentle moisturizers to basically lock it in. I’ve been doing that and it’s helped my skin so much. I get that for some it can worsen the skin, but it’s only ever helped me.
My mom used to use strictly Vaseline for years & years. . I still remember beauty consultants asking her what she used & they would be floored when they found out!Although she’s changed her beauty habits & I hate to even say this, I honestly think she might owe some of her beautiful skin (at 74) to her previous use of petroleum jelly.
I had a recent scar and read many good articles online by dermatologists saying to use Vaseline/ Petroleum Jelly on it to lock moisture in on it to prevent scarring
dr youn isn't qualified in the dermatology field instead watch dr dray she's a skin specialist and knows everything about all different skin types and whats good and bad for each, she also stated that vaseline is not harmful for your face, i think most of the doctors on yt mentioned that vaseline does no harm and is in fact recommended, don't take it from someone who is trying to promote their own brand and isn't even qualified in that field.
Everything he mentioned was true, but he didn’t have time to name everything. Never use scented products on the face; it’s irritating and just like applying perfume to the face! Never use paper, toilet paper or paper towel. Always pat dry, never rub. When applying moisturizer to any skin on the body, do so when skin is wet in order to lock in moisture. Expensive products aren’t better. Stay out of the sun and take Vitamin D, 1000 IU’s per day. A bottle of 100 tablets lasts longer than 3 months and costs about $4-5. As women we’re prone to Osteoporosis, so it’s great to use!
I wish I could express how much you, as a doctor, mean to me. Doctor's are overwhelmed these days, and I find it difficult to take their time to ask basic advice on topics like this. Thank you Dr.
Petroleum jelly itself is non-comedogenic, but it’s a super strong barrier so it can trap dirt and bacteria in your pores if you miss any before applying. Its main cosmetic property is not as a moisturizer, just a barrier-- which can be good or bad depending on what it’s trapping in or blocking out
Such an eye-opening video! I was honestly surprised by some of the things you mentioned, especially about bar soap and petroleum jelly - I had no idea they could be so harmful to the skin. Your holistic approach to skincare is so refreshing, and I love how you explain everything in such a clear and relatable way. Definitely learned a lot today, thank you for sharing your expertise! 🙌✨"
As someone who makes cold process soap, I can say that there are certain bar soap recipes that can be safe for the face. I make a lower pH bar soap, with no sodium laurel sulfate that is face safe and moisturizing. It just all depends on the soap. Now if you are talking about your average store bought bar soap, keep it far, far away from your face.
He means beauty bars, aka syndet bars. Most people who aren’t soap makers think beauty bars are soap. I’m also a soap maker, but I understood what he meant.
I highly recommend checking out Soap Queen/brambleberry. I learned a lot of the basics from there, but wrote my own recipes for soaps, body butters, scrubs, etc. I also work with my sister who is a licensed aesthetician to formulate a lot of things for specific purposes (like hydrating formulas, gentle cleansers, etc)

Thank you for mentioning Petroleum Jelly. I am an esthetiton. I've been trying to tell ppl about why they shouldn't use it on their face. They like to retort with their grandmother used it and she has no wrinkles. OR that Marilyn Monroe also used it for that sheen you see in her photos. Another thing Petroleum was used for in the Navy was to cover pipes on ships that were in salt water and rusted the pipes. Petroleum is also used in many medications today. I think you know that. 😊
I began the acne battle in my teens and started using 50% alcohol to fight back. After awhile I moved up to 70% for a number of years then back to 50% in my 20's- early 30's. When I turned 42 I decided to start taking better care of my skin and now have a healthier routine. Fortunately my skin still looks healthy but the acne battle is neverending.
With the restoration power of God, the battle will end. God healed Job in the Bible with skin disease. He healed Naiman and He healed me from Acne. Trust His power. Seek Him a d He will heal you and restore your skin.
And the commercials push it so hard! It wasn't that long since I was in their target demographic when all those mail order acne treatments were popular at school. I've had good luck with tea tree products, but even just getting alcohol free face wash and toner made a huge difference in how my skin looks and feels!
@@ahse479 some celeb, think it was Nicki Minaj, got asked what her skin care routine was and she said it was semen, and I guess everyone took it and ran.
I think it depends on the person and their skin type. I use a small amount Vaseline on my skin after a shower as recommended by my dermatologist. Without it my skin gets extremely dry and flakey, I've been doing this skin care regime for like 7 years and my skin is clear with no blemishes or clogged pores. In fact I once traveled to another state to visit family for a week and did not use any Vaseline the entire time and by the time I came back I broke out with several pimples. I think the Vaseline provides a barrier of protection while helping keep moisture in so your skin doesn't dry out. I do however wash my face daily and I refrain from touching my face a lot because you can transfer dirt germs and bacteria from your hands to your face.

Vaseline is the only thing that works for my lips, and I’ve tried all the healthy alternatives. Now that I’ve got it under control, I apply a little bit twice a day - before bed, and in the morning. I’ve been maintaining for 3+ years without any chapping or cracking!
Because petroleum jelly actually works and is safe to use. Don't believe what he says about the origins of petroleum jelly. He doesn't understand cosmetic ingredients as much as a chemist. Petrolatum is safe and purified before it's released into the market. Plant oils are even more comedogenic than petroleum jelly based on research a long time ago.
I was kinda surprised. Honestly, by the time we get it in a little tub it's been cleansed to the max so it has nothing to do with what it was. I use it on my skin, am acne prone but very mild- it hadn't made me break out yet. Hmm
Good luck to ya if you have petroleum jelly on your lips and you have to have oxygen applied in an emergency situation. You’ll quit literally light on fire.
I just going to put it out there. What can I use on my older (over 50, female) face, when I'm on a very restricted income. You are probably going to think I'm crazy, but I live where its very dry. At night time, I use shortening or lard. I clean my face, then steam it for 5 mins. then I apply shortening or lard and let it sit on my face for 10 to 20 mins. I then take a warm wash cloth and gently wipe off the excess. It works amazing.
I bought Petroleum Jelly then I search "how to apply Petroleum Jelly on my face, and I found this vid lol😅 came back here and I realized that this is my most liked comment in this platform
dr Youn is a plastic surgeon not a dermatologist. The fear mongering around petroleum is real and a complete myth. Petroleum jelly has been used as the controlled variable within many clinical studies because it has an extensive history of safety and efficacy.
Continue to use it. It’s excellent for wound healing. And an excellent lip balm. It’s completely safe. This guy is not educated on this very safe ingredient. It’s safe for the face too.
I stopped using bar soap after watching this video. I start washing my face with facial foam... Putting moisturizer in my skin and other facial products. It's suprisingly effective. My skin got better and smooth asf. I'm glad i saw this video it helped me a lot!!
I am a Artesian soap maker. SLS is a detergent, soap makers like me add 5-7 % of oils unsoaponified. Which is the moisturizer for the skin. I use only organic oils, milks, additives such as oatmeal, honey, clays, herbs infused into the oils. I use no chemicals or fragrance, only essential oils.❤️
I wasn’t expecting no 1 to be ‘that’. Thank you Doc, you remind me of the other lovely Dr. Berg in how relaxed and to the point you deliver the information. Much appreciated. 🙏🏼🇬🇧
I wish I knew the deal with rubbing alcohol when I was a zit faced teen with oily skin. I couldn't figure out why it kept getting oilier. Sometimes in the early 2000s I learned why and I've never used alcohol on my face again. As soon. As I turned up the moisture, my oily skin became balanced. What a relief.
I use a perfume and dye free bar soap for my face. With my skin type being naturally oily, it neutralizes the oil to a healthy balanced moisture. If I use a conditioning or hydration based soaps I will break out. It's just what works for me. You are 100% right on the alcohol/astringent. That's a vicious cycle.
I use an astringent as a toner after I wash my face and it’s actually really helped with the oiliness and dirt. It depends on person to person, that’s why I never take skincare advice online. Just try what works for you!
It is the orange Neutrogina bar? That bar is tried and true. Worked for me up until my mid 30’s. Now, I use a deep cleanser to remove makeup and Cetyphil cleanser to remove the previous cleanser. I’m looking for one, but until I find the right secular cleanser for me, that’s what I do

And yeah, make sure the face wash you use is between the pH level of 5 to 6. As this is considered a mild cleanser.
Ik you are pranking me scara not falling for your tricks again. I'm gonna tell all about you to your mom hahaha, you're finished scara the divine asian slipper shall strike you down
@@mouche_pie most cleansers are ph balanced, so no need to check
Soap is terrible for the face but facial cleansers of meant for the face... of course

That's because he doesn't have actual knowledge on the topics to delve into.

It still clogs your skin
There are way better prescriptions and ingredients to keep eczema under control. Petroleum products are still comedogenic aka clogs pores and other issues. In some cases it can act as a protective barrier
@@jannettsnow2856 no it doesn't especially if you have dry skin. If you have oily skin then yes.

Listen to the reason you shouldn't done it it's worth it
I believe that beautiful skin starts from the inside.
Penny Upson I actually eat pretty unhealthy and I only breakout on my periods, after that it clears up and I have great skin.

@@chatnoir9603 me too, we are using vaseline often if the winter draws, lips and skin are dry hard. Is Vaseline is a petroleum jelly?
Hmm
TRY USING EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
That's the last thing I apply on my face while doing my daily/nightly routine! I'm 52 with no wrinkles and Vaseline is the secret!
Good luck to ya if you have petroleum jelly on your lips and you have to have oxygen applied in an emergency situation. You’ll quit literally light on fire.
I just about died at #1. I had no idea people do this 😂
fr
sometimes it's by accident...
bad aim......
same here
We could still try it but we don't have to make it a routine
Never in a million years did I ever expect #1 to be on the list!!! 😂😂😂😂. We are some animals 😂😂😂😂

Machun Pamei I thought you were talking about his life approach but then I looked up! He does look like his Asian cousin!🤪
I bought Petroleum Jelly then I search "how to apply Petroleum Jelly on my face, and I found this vid lol😅
came back here and I realized that this is my most liked comment in this platform

you can still put in on your lips tho
@sara ali y
dr Youn is a plastic surgeon not a dermatologist.
I'm glad i saw this video it helped me a lot!!
i really hope you get to see this, which moisturizer do you use and how often?
foams are not good either.

Well i use shampoo to bath
Soaps are expensive
Essential oils are sensitising to the skin
Wow I love soap makers, much respect👏
Me too. My soaps are only made with natural ingredients and personally use castille soap. I don't use detergents
Even generic soaps use oils. Sls is harmful. Period.
What a relief.
this man just ruined my whole routine😂

I’m looking for one, but until I find the right secular cleanser for me, that’s what I do
I heard petroleum is prescribed for eczema
My hubby's grandma used to cover her entire body in Vaseline every night before bed. She swore it kept her looking young. It did not. Not even a little.
😂😂😂😂😂
Have to say black people have used vaseline and alcohol, on our skins for decades, I happen to be 72 years old, Just Saying Good Black don't Crack 😘

I have used bar soap and body moisturiser on my face for close to 30yrs now, and I don't have a problem at all. I have one of the smoothest face ever.
