Agree with these comments I attended this concert and it was probably the best musically live performance I’ve ever seen I flew from Australia the night before
Good music is UNIVERSAL. I am a 50 year old Black woman that grew up in Williamsburg, VA. My dad loved Patti Page and my mom loved Hank Williams and Alan Jackson. They listened to country music as well as Aretha, Sam Cook and Johnny Mathis. I am so thankful I can appreciate all music because my parents exposed me to a wide variety. I am an African American grandmother. I was living in Dallas, Texas, 1968, and I was 20, when this was released. The first time I heard this on the radio....I just couldn't get enough of it! It was so melodic, so heart-wrenching.....and I just LOVE minor chords within a song. This was not being played on the R&B station, KNOK, at the time; so I would hunt through all the channels until I found a Country Western Station, or POP station so I could hear this gem. I have never forgotten this song. It tells such a beautiful story of love. RIP Mr. Campbell, from one 'crossover sister.'
African American woman listening and can never get enough of this song. This was a beautiful man, beautiful heart and beautiful spirit. Just listening takes you to another place far above the issues of this world. One of the all time greats.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written and the melody is just so very good. Well done Glen, love this and RIP, we still enjoying your songs and guitar playing.
My mum just passed away and this was one of her favourite songs. I just heard it in the bar in the Fairmount hotel in Austin Texas. Am on holiday with my 2 daughters watching this in tears. Thanks for everything mum. ❤️❤️
I tell my wife that this is for her. All the nights I got called out at 2am to fix an outage, all the evenings where a thunderstorm rolled through and I was out fixing problems all night. The song strikes a chord - you want to be home, but the company needs you on the line...

I hear ya. All the time I was growing up my Dad was always called to go out in the worst storms & climb those poles when lightning was flashing all around. When I was older I went with him on what he called a trouble call a few times & watched from inside the truck while he got someone's lights back on. I remember that so vividly, & my Dad actually was a Wichita Lineman!! He was such a great man, I miss him terribly.
This HAS to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And this particular performance is on another level. Glen was one of those rare performers who’s voice actually got better with age. NO ONE could do this song any better.
I'm almost 62 and I never appreciated Glen Campbell in the 70s like I do now. I realize what a genius he was and is the most underrated guitar player of all-time. I listened to this video 3 times because I can.
I'll be 62 in 10 days and would have been in high school just like you at that time ( in a northern large city for me). High School kids weren't listening to him then -- though as a grade schooler I saw his variety show. Luckily I had much older parents & adult siblings so I was exposed to lots of different music, even Hank Williams Sr. In 6th grade, I bought Johnny Cash's live San Quentin album.
It's insane how many late 50s through mid 60s songs he played on: "Tequila", "Pet Sounds"/"Help Me Rhonda"/"Fun Fun Fun"/etc., "Strangers In The Night", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", "Mary, Mary" (Monkees), "Somethin' Stupid". So in a way he was the American Jimmy Page (only he did it first) LOL!

That song just makes me choke up. I know this song is old, but why can't we get back to music like this? Such a golden voice Glen had. I bet he's keeping God entertained with some great music.
Totally agree. Simple, sincere and from the heart - and sung beautifully! Glen Campbell could sing and play the guitar expertly and with feeling. Just an amazing talent.
I work for PBS. This concert special was recorded with Glen and the South Dakota Symphony in 2001 and was released on both CD and DVD. It’s 21 tracks of magic.
The audience should have been STANDING AFTER THAT PERFORMANCE , THE GREAT GLEN CAMPBELL FOLKS , THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER ONE LIKE HIM , THE WORLD LOST A GREAT TALENT.
Wow. Maybe the most beautiful song ever written, sung by one of the most perfect voices with his brilliant guitar playing. There are no words for Glen’s talent. Just gorgeous.
@@dwaynereese1047 Roy was incredible. One of a kind. Rockabilly music with an operatic voice. I have said many times that when Roy did a song, he owned it. No one covered it because no one could measure up. Except Glen. I saw Glen do "Crying", and it was every bit as well done as Roy did it. Hard to tell the difference.
In 1967, I will never forget this. My mother took me grocery shopping in Santa Ana, Ca. to a Stater Brothers grocery store. I was only 10 years old. She asked me if there were any 'Albums" that I were interested in, I happened to say that I like Glen Campbell....She bought me 'Wichita Lineman". I took it home and played it on the family 'Motorola' stereo system. WL was the finest song that I have ever heard up to that point. To this day, I will never forget how totally awesome this song was!!!!
😂 You talking about the one on W. Edinger? I've been to that Stater Brothers plenty of times! Was my grandpa's only grocery stop until he died. In the 90's though! My mom said it had been there for as long as she could remember. Not sure about now, haven't been there in decades.
Campbell was a true cross-over musician who appealed to people from all backgrounds. I see lots of African-Americans like myself appreciating his musical legacy. Good music unifies us all.

I live in Sicily. If it wasn't for an American radio broadcasting from Sigonella Air Base, caught late at night during a long drive home, I would never have heard of Mr. Campbell. I didn't know who he was, so I kept in mind that magic line - and I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time - until I got home and googled it. What a fortunate discovery. Knowing about his condition, I can't help being grateful for what he is leaving us with: all the emotions and memories of a time where songwriting was a much more thoughtful, heartfelt and inherently artistic act than it is today.
The only thing wrong with this song is how short it is. Otherwise it is clearly a masterpiece. NOBODY in the last 20-30 years has produced anything even close to this quality. Glen Campbell's music will be remembered generations beyond him.
Writer Jimmy Webb's perfect marriage to Glen Campell's vocals..the most awesome duo of the sixties. My lord, this is equisite...Tthe sixties music was monumental and never to be replicated.
We don’t have songs like this anymore what a year I was so happy to be born when these songs were new wonderful time of life, so peaceful, nothing compared to what we’re going through now in our country and in the world
Even factoring in all the accolades he's received over the years, I still consider Glen Campbell to be so very underrated. A prolific entertainer; an incomparable singer with perfect diction, timing, pitch, and with a natural smoothness to his voice. One of the best guitar players there ever has been. A writer, an actor, a comedian, a host. He acted with John Wayne in True Grit, as well as sang the theme song. His talent was tremendous, a gift from God. I will miss him so much--
so well said... we have the legacy of his beautiful music, now he is impacting people educating them about Alzheimer's disease, which may reach as many people as he has with his music....love the man...
Glen Campbell. Wrecking Crew guitarist. Hear it. He was a master and I'm glad his talent has been recorded. We're all gonna fade and die but only a few are worth keeping. Glen is forever.
The Wrecking Crew were unique. A group of world class session musicians that will never be repeated. Most 1960 -70 recording artists owe their success to theses amazing players. Just thinking of all the hit records the Wrecking Crew played on without any fanfare, brings a lump to my throat.
Just talked about him on the news. I think the family had to put him under some kind of full time care now. There was a female and male talking about him. Idk if children or Niece and Nephew. I was asleep and part of one of his songs woke me up. Love Glen Campbells music. Anyway the reporter asked if he still plays the guitar and the male said he has a couple guitars in his room and can still play better than him on a bad day. Lol. Ok just read up on him. He is a resident at Nashville Memory Care and in the final stages of Alzheimers. So sad. We just lost Gene Wilder to it. I will confess though, this is my favorite Glen Campbell song. Driving to the farm with Dad as a kid in the seventies and this song came on. I fell in love with it then. It always reminds me of that memory and my childhood. And you are right, Glen is forever.
I have to love that line "can still play better than him on a bad day". It has the sadness of Glen's condition and the blazing glory of Glen's ability. We are all frail and die but some of us make life worthwhile.
That song has the best line I have ever heard - "I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time". Almost everytime I hear it, I cry, because it's perfect.
A I group up a rock ‘n’ roller. Glen Campbell wasn’t my type of music. It wasn’t until I grew up that I realized what a musical genius and legend he was.
Oh G.C. You ~ well Muizo's have said for 30+years... "THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST 'GUITAR PLAYER'S EVER' That has 🎶NEVER received The RESPECT THAT YOU SO DESERVED"🎶 Thankyou Glenn Campbell you changed my world FOREVER XXXX RIP
I'm 61 and I remember when this used to come on the radio I'd be in my room I loved this song so much and I also saw him sing it on the Glen Campbell show when I was a kid we used to watch that 😁❤️
My son is mentally handicapped, loves music and only pays Tom Jones, I played this for him and he cried. Glen if you only knew how much your voice and songs moved people
Amazing isn't it. Remember the first time I heard this song - got to the line 'and I need you more than want you'. I recall thinking, woah - that's a not the nicest line ever lol. Then I heard 'and I want you for all time' and my mind was just blown! This man and his music give me a virtual hug every time I watch/listen to him. I always go to Glen in happy times and times of trouble - he soothes my mind. A true musical talent, and a legend few if any could ever match today 😍
Not only my favorite song, but also my favorite line "and i need you more than want you and i want you for all time"!♥️ if that's not amazing, what is?!
As an ex lineman I love this song. My Dad use to play this on a turntable many years ago when I was young when he worked for Polygram here in New Zealand. Little did I know that I would be doing this for a job later in life. Great song and it brings back memories of my Dad who passed a few years ago. We both loved this song.
Seven years ago my husband was given less than 2 weeks to live he dedicated this song to me along with Glen Campbells "Gentle on my mind" RIP Baby' you were my gift in life' and these songs only keep reminding me your gift lives on...❤️
I’m sure he did so because,,,,and I need you more than want you and I’ll want you for all time. That man loves you with all his heart. You are blessed and will see him again
I'm a rock guy and definitely don't normally have time for country music, but this must be one of the most beguiling and haunting songs in terms of chord structure, melody and feel. Brilliant
You can just see how joyful Glen was to be so privileged for Jim Webb to have bestowed on him what Bob Dylan called the greatest song ever written. Rest in Peace.
Glen Campbell was an uplifting voice in the messed up world I grew up in the 70's. I spent time in a few foster homes and an orphanage as well. But his music was wonderful to me.
My dad is Jeff Dayton. He got to play with Glen for 15 years

Yes brilliant comments for sure. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ towards the end of his life. So yes indeed, he is with God for eternity.
Thank you God for giving us Glen Campbell.. Rest in peace Glen.. Amen
I work for PBS. This concert special was recorded with Glen and the South Dakota Symphony in 2001 and was released on both CD and DVD. It’s 21 tracks of magic.
both in my collection♥️👍
Thanks for the extra information. I was wondering about the details of this fantastic live rendition.
Now I need to get it. Thank you
Indeed it is magic!
@@zapkvr0101 Kevin, do you know where to get it ?

Wow. Maybe the most beautiful song ever written, sung by one of the most perfect voices with his brilliant guitar playing. There are no words for Glen’s talent. Just gorgeous.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
This is the Glen Campbell I remember, pure talent right here.
That guitar solo is just awsome

My late mother’s favourite song. Wow brings a tear to my eye even now. Beautiful.
Rest easy, Glen. Love from Ireland❤️
"And I need you more than want you. And I want you for all time." Always makes me tear up...
That's one of the best lyrics ever written
Me too! I have a hard time even singing along. Every dang time.
Jimmy Webb was one of the best songwriters eh !
Me too. Does it damned near every time.
Gives me the chills everytime I listen to this.
There will never be another Glen Campbell. I miss him terribly.
Me too. Fond regards from Channel Tunnel country, England.
ROY ORBINSON WAS NO SLOUCH.
Adam Welton SIIIIGNAAAAALS
Two lovely guitar breaks
I'm Sr. GENX and old enough to remember Glen's tv show. I still love this song. It's emotional every time I hear it.
What a Legend....What a Song ....Just Sublime.......R.I.P...The Magnificent Glenn Campbell.....😔😔😔😔🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The older I get , the more I realise what an amazing talent he was . RIP
Campbell was a true cross-over musician who appealed to people from all backgrounds. I see lots of African-Americans like myself appreciating his musical legacy. Good music unifies us all.
Indeed it does. ❤️

Marco Tinè Cio! Very kind of you...
Love coutry music and everyone who honered glen
+Hope Zink I hate country, but I love Glen Campbell.
+Marco Tinè You should watch a documentary called The Wrecking Crew. You will learn a lot about Glen thru that. Have a great day.
Thanks tressinar, I'll most certainly do that
This is one of the greatest songs of all time.
+Al Capwned For sure
It damn sure gets my vote.
He always said it's his favorite.
The only thing wrong with this song is how short it is. Otherwise it is clearly a masterpiece. NOBODY in the last 20-30 years has produced anything even close to this quality. Glen Campbell's music will be remembered generations beyond him.
it certainly is!!
Possibly the greatest country song ever IMO!!
IMO!!!
Absolutely- this song can stir and shake one’s foundation if you stop and let the music fill you up
An absolute genius. What a miss Glen Campbell is 🙏🏻
A world most beautiful song, ever!
Writer Jimmy Webb's perfect marriage to Glen Campell's vocals..the most awesome duo of the sixties. My lord, this is equisite...Tthe sixties music was monumental and never to be replicated.
Glen's guitar skills were outstanding to say the least.
He was known 4 his playing. Not singing.
What a rare talent! RIP Glenn 💔
RIP Glenn Campbell. miss you but lucky to have your beautiful music!!❤❤❤❤
What an absolutely kick-ass performance. Folks, this is what true talent is.
This man was greatness, I miss this kind of music, there's no arrangements and melody to music anymore,, Jimmy Webb was a master song writer
NOBODY did this song better than Glen Campbell. The violins add a nice touch.
l agree 100%
the meters did it good too
+Jacqueline K Yeah! Only Glen sings this song this way...
123Rockchild: Just posted in total agreement, thanks!
Amen
I will miss him so much--
I agree completely
Love this man. Obe of a kind.
Love Glen Campbell. I think you summed things up nicely. Great all around entertainer. One of the tastiest guitar players ever.
so well said... we have the legacy of his beautiful music, now he is impacting people educating them about Alzheimer's disease, which may reach as many people as he has with his music....love the man...
Also, an ingenious song and lyrics, written by Jimmy Webb. Yes, the lyrics are absolutely beautiful.
I think the family had to put him
under some kind of full time care now. There was a female and male
talking about him. Idk if children or Niece and Nephew. I was asleep and
part of one of his songs woke me up. Love Glen Campbells music. Anyway
the reporter asked if he still plays the guitar and the male said he has
a couple guitars in his room and can still play better than him on a
bad day. Lol.
Ok just read up on him. He is a resident at Nashville
Memory Care and in the final stages of Alzheimers. So sad. We just lost
Gene Wilder to it.
I will confess though, this is my favorite Glen
Campbell song. Driving to the farm with Dad as a kid in the seventies
and this song came on. I fell in love with it then. It always reminds me
of that memory and my childhood.
And you are right, Glen is forever.
I have to love that line "can still play better than him on a bad day". It has the sadness of Glen's condition and the blazing glory of Glen's ability. We are all frail and die but some of us make life worthwhile.
Agree. :)
Yep just like the Funk Brothers. The magic that made a song special
This is what perfection sounds like. Incredible song. More incredibly singer, song writer, and performer.
That song has the best line I have ever heard - "I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time". Almost everytime I hear it, I cry, because it's perfect.
it is a beautiful lyric for sure. the song was written by the legendary jimmy webb
jason Lawson Webb was and is one of the greats of our generation. A masterful musician and pure genius!

Jimmy Webb is one of the all time greats.

'Glenn Campbell' is one of the best singers, guitar players & performers of all time.....!!

I can remember listening this on the radio when I was a kid in the 60's. Loved that song back then and still do today. RIP Glen...
I'm 61 and I remember when this used to come on the radio I'd be in my room I loved this song so much and I also saw him sing it on the Glen Campbell show when I was a kid we used to watch that 😁❤️

Just a beautiful song
I agree...his best live version and that guitar solo is awesome....as if it was written that way.

Yes this is a masterpiece
The best ever performance of one the greatest songs ever!

Studio musicians have a reputation for being well accomplished musicians.
Effortless vocals and guitar what a gift he was
As an ex lineman I love this song. My Dad use to play this on a turntable many years ago when I was young when he worked for Polygram here in New Zealand. Little did I know that I would be doing this for a job later in life. Great song and it brings back memories of my Dad who passed a few years ago. We both loved this song.
Beautiful man, beautiful song. God bless this beautiful soul.
I really miss him!
This is the best string arrangement I've ever heard. It doesn't try to overshadow Glen's brilliance.
I am a huge Burt Bacharach fan, But this song Always captured me, and for sure the way Glen sang and played it! Thank you Glen! R.I.P.
Burt didn’t write this, it was Jimmy Webb
Glen was, is, and will forever be a legend.

"And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time." What beautiful lyrics!
I get chills every-time I hear this - exquisite and timeless! Also, the lyrics are so heart-rending!
How about Glen's guitar solo too. Just wonderful...
Seven years ago my husband was given less than 2 weeks to live he dedicated this song to me along with Glen Campbells "Gentle on my mind" RIP Baby' you were my gift in life' and these songs only keep reminding me your gift lives on...❤️

This is how I like to remember Glen Campbell;
on stage, looking and sounding this way.
What a star he was.
A música é lindíssima, e a voz é interpretação do Glen levam o conjunto a perfeição. Um tesouro guardado no tempo.
I'm a rock guy and definitely don't normally have time for country music, but this must be one of the most beguiling and haunting songs in terms of chord structure, melody and feel. Brilliant
I'm a prog guy. This song is one my all time faves. It is just a brilliant song, genres don't even come into it!,
As am I. I purchased a Strat largely due to this legend.
Glen did not consider himself country. This transcends labels.
You can just see how joyful Glen was to be so privileged for Jim Webb to have bestowed on him what Bob Dylan called the greatest song ever written.
Rest in Peace.
Neighbor, a retired lineman passed away yesterday. Will always think of him when I hear this song.
I’m an alien from the Andromeda system, and I must say, this brought me to tears. Take me for my word, this man’s talent was out of this world.
Glen Campbell was an uplifting voice in the messed up world I grew up in the 70's. I spent time in a few foster homes and an orphanage as well. But his music was wonderful to me.
