I know, right? I can’t believe I will be 70 in a few years! It’s as if I went to sleep at 30 & woke up at 60. It really sucks. I wish I had listened to all the old people who warned me not to waste it.

The reason being is that Karen was a natural talent, unfiltered, and 100% live mistakes or not! Not effort to belting out a song, pure perfection! My Grandmother introduced me to The Carpenters when i was a wee one. She loved Karen Carpenters voice, just as you do. She mentioned when Karen passed, it was a big eye opener to the world of mental health issues!
God bless to the wonder of the magnificent The Carpenters x

Is anyone listening in 2024? Of course there is - me, for starters. I'm sure I'm not the only one who came by for a quick nostalgic punch to the heart! The music of the 70s-90s showcases how much the musical stage changed and progressed, but all three decades featured massive talents. The 70s though, that's my early childhood as most of said childhood was experienced in the 80s. Teen to young adult in the 90s. But each decade has its own unique sound that differs from the ones preceding and following. I find the music of today to be mostly bland, there are a lot of soundalikes out there! Or maybe its just me.

As a teenager in the 60's and 70's, I can attest to the attraction. Yes, I was a Motown, Philly International, Stax and FUNK fan, but you always made room for the Carpenters, anything by Burt Bacharach, the Guess Who (these eyes) , the Rascals, Chicago and, of course Carol King. (there are others I left out, but their are plenty others).
I'm one of those that believe in the abilities of black folks to emote convincingly while singing, but trust me, this woman is note perfect, pitch perfect, true to the key, can progress ANY chord on the fly all the while maintaining control and playing FREAKIN' drums!!!

I grew up in Downey CA... always running across Karen and Richard driving their Carpenter's Van around town and always waving...big smiles...Mom and I ran into Karen at JCPENNEY while in the ladies dept...
You like Metallica too obviously...I went to Downey High school with James Hetfield we were in the same class! James wouldn't cut his hair for football and decided to be a Rock and Roll star! James would walk around Downey High playing music in his head playing air guitar...I can remember it like it was yesterday...his long curls bouncing off his shoulders!

Heck, I even know the apartment where Erickson and Mustaine were and how they met. When I was just a toddler, I LOVED the Carpenters. Imagine 1973 a little black girl with soul music loving parents who were cool enough to play the Carpenters on loop everyday because I simply LOVED Karen's voice. At 3 it would make me cry because it was so beautiful. As I grew, I listened to so much music and enjoyed the pop of my time. Then at a bazaar in India in 1984 I came upon a Carpenter's tape. I hadn't listened to them for over a decade. I popped in the tape and I knew every word to every song. That voice imprinted on my soul. I'm 48 now and her voice still makes me cry.

I am older than you by about six or seven years, but we share the same dilemma. Your life, like mine, is like a roller coaster ride. You get on the car at birth. Your early life and early teens seemed to take a long time, as the car slowly goes up the rails. Remember how long it took to reach sixteen so you could drive? Then how long it took you to reach drinking age? At about thirty-five, the roller coaster has reached the crest of the ride and has begun its descent. The years go by swiftly, your thirties, forties, fifties, now sixties, are all a blur as the car accelerates, the wooden rails clack and creak. The car goes faster and faster. Now, the cart approaches the end, as we approach our seventies and eighties, the autumn, no, the December of our lives.

Thank you dear...did you know that this song was first originally a commercial for Bank of America???? I kid you not.! Richard carpenter heard the commercial song....fell in love with it and contacted the bank who told him who to find who wrote the ditty.....so he got permission to actually make it into the song we know today......imagine that....this song was originally for a bank commercial 😀

I could state when referencing to say Me and of course the two of us as in all. But even in the other form of two of us as in Mother and child and the two of us is OKAY

She’s a trans- she looks so uncomfortable in her skin….no doubt not by her own doing….most everyone in hellywood is and was….I’m still in shock learning this. This is what obviously contributed to her anorexia-trying to have a female body when you have male bone structure and to try to give the appearance of having hips-look at her shoulder ratio….so unnatural. I’m praying for all these people that didn’t have a choice and were forced to flip their gender.

This was played at my high school graduation in Phoenix on June 8, 1972, fifty years ago today. While listening to it and watching the American flag flutter in the Spring breeze, I wondered where I would be in fifty years, "when the evening comes." The past fifty years have been wonderful, and I feel that there is still "so much of life ahead."

Yes, it comes to us all. Actually, in my case, I was walking down St Giles in Oxford at 18, my life ahead of me and veered into The Eagle and Child and heard Karen's wonderful voice (Close to You). I became and remained a fan but still, those college discos and those great sounds: The Eagles, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, The Stones, Elton John, Lou Reed, Wizard, Tina Turner. I loved that stuff to dance to and danced to it for years. Now, I am not sure whether I have given up that energetic dancing or that energetic dancing has given up me - I suspect the latter. Karen's mellow voice still remains. And we need mellow.

I'm only 22 years old but I still love The Carpenters. I grew up with them! My mom would play their music in the car all the time when she would drive me to school. This might sound weird, but my parents always used to put their Christmas album on every night for me to fall asleep. Even in the summer! There is not one flaw I can find in her voice. So angelic and beyond pitch perfect. I always considered her my childhood idle of course before I found out about her struggle with anorexia. I'm in recovery from an eating disorder. Hearing her story was when I finally brought myself to get help. Such a shame to lose someone in the world of music as flawless as Karen. Anorexia is such a terrible, awful disease. Fly high, beautiful angel and thank you for being there for me

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts! Recovery has been a struggle and it's up there with one of the hardest things I've had to do in my life. Admitting I had a problem and reaching out for help was the hardest. I've even thought of giving up multiple times but I managed to pull myself together. And in the end, it's totally worth it and probably the best decision I've made for myself. Of course I still struggle everyday with eating certain foods and watching my weight and I probably always will. I've learned to accept myself for who I am and that anorexia will always be a part of me, but I do have more control of my disorder than I did several months ago 💪🏻💜
