The problem is that for this garbage to be accepted you have to serve it up to people whose only criterion for "good writing" is "makes me feel more secure in my conceptualization of the universe."
There’s another stupid inconsistency with the plot. Bubba Davis says “those sexists in the press won’t label a woman an insurrection it’s.” Meanwhile Ben made a point of the media calling Soledad a traitor and terrorist. I shouldn’t have to work so hard to make sense of someone else’s novel.
Oh, no, that's different, because that isn't the media calling her an insurrectionist, that's the media calling her a traitor and a terrorist. *TOTALLY* different. No similarities whatsoever. No sirree. Also, it's *definitely* not that because Soledad subscribes to right-wing politics, she's weirdly vulnerable to namecalling, whereas people who don't subscribe to right-wing politics get free passes from The Media (tm) because apparently affirmative action is automatically bad or something. Couldn't be that, either.
"Take a bullet for you, babe." Like, you could probably make something of that if you explained it. Like, imagine if they were childhood friends and during some of the awkward early romance stuff she accidentally shot him with a BB or something, and he laughed it off while they were in the emergency room, and it became something of an in-joke between them. WRITE CHARACTERS, BEN! WHY AM I DOING IT FOR YOU IN A TH-cam COMMENT?!
Jesus fucking Christ that 'radio static' thing... The one goddamn time where the way that ol' Benny Shaps writes his sentences would work and he manages to fuck that up by producing a complete functional sentence for a change.
"In the distance the sun was rising" is a creative take on "in the distance a dog was barking," a cliche that was used as an example of cliche in the creative writing class I took in high school, forty-five years ago.
I like that Ben tried to make his Texas governor Totally Not Racist by saying he marched with Martin Luther King Jr. when Ben Shapiro is on record for stating the Civil Rights Act is a violation of individual freedoms. “I don’t think the law has any role whatsoever in banning race-based discrimination by private actors,” So, more likely than not, Ben's own heroic characters would be in opposition TO Ben if he was born a few decades earlier.
A book written by Shapiro involving terrorism? I was waiting for the wildly offensive Islamaphobia and Islamaphobic conspiracy theories and WOOP, there it is. Took a bit longer than I thought tbh.
I love how every episode has at least one, but usually way more moments when in 3 minutes they brainstorm better character arcs [or, honestly, any arcs in the first place xd], better dialogue, better structure or actual plot points that arent "9/11 but every villan is Obama or an evil black man or both"
How old is Bubba supposed to be anyway? I suppose the marches he went to are the famous ones that happened in the 60s. The book looks like it takes place in current time (2016). That would mean he's about 70, if he joined the civil rights movement as a young adult.
Theres so many different viewpoint characters in this book but their viewpoint is all presented almost identically. Even the scenes with evil characters feel like they are just the singular gestalt good guy character imagining what the evil people must be like.
Ah, another hour plus block where Bobby, Cody, and Katy brutalize themselves with Shabeeps’ thorough rapine of the English language… for our entertainment. Shine on, you glorious bastards. Shine on.
5:55 is he serious about the use of the term "hornswoggled"? I googled it and apparently it's a real world, but I can't tell if it is actually a typical Texan expression of wide use.
No,that was very dry sarcasm. He covered it in an earlier episode, but iirc he said "something no Texan has ever said" (again probably a bit of hyperbole)
It’s Old West argot from 150 years ago. The crazy gold prospector in a cowboy movie talks like that-HOLY SHITBALLS i bet Ben based him on the Prospector character in Toy Story 2
Kendrick Malone rhythmically sounds like Kendrick Lamar. It is almost like a euphony of nazisms by this weirdo. This is book is based in 2016, right? The song that pissed off the fascist and bigots was “We gon be alright!” Which came out in 2015-coincidence? I think not.
I'm pretty sure I've written stuff this bad, but I had enough of an understanding of where I was as a writer to go through a fair rounds of edits and still not share it with the world.
"How dare you make fun of Stalin! My grandpa died under Stalin's rule! He fell from a watchtower in a Gulag while shooting at anarchist and socialist traitors. :("
The fact that Ben thinks that Generals are young fit dudes who run around doing badass front-line stuff tells you how familiar he is with the military
Ben played call of duty once, okay? That makes him the equivalent of an army seal.
I love that Shapiro wrote a whole book example of "Conservatives think a thing being good or bad is based on the person doing it"
I needed a good reason to not give up on working on my novel...this trash being published shows that I'm way too harsh on myself as a writer
that’s how i feel about tim pool’s “music” “career.”
The problem is that for this garbage to be accepted you have to serve it up to people whose only criterion for "good writing" is "makes me feel more secure in my conceptualization of the universe."
Same
Huh. Guess it speaks to how generic things in this book are that I accidentally watched these out of order and didn't even notice.
Lmao same
This is my second video of the series, it was the next one to come up. I don't feel like I missed much; having too much fun with the commentary lol
Make 👏 more 👏 collabs 👏 with 👏 Cody 👏 and 👏 Katy.
They are the kind of guests you can't go wrong with.
This. A thousand times this.

To be fair, as far as anyone knows, she just straight-up slaughtered a SWAT team.

25:20 - Did Ben Shapiro forget the word "Eyesockets"?
Calling them the "Holes on His Head" makes it sound like they're some sort of attachment

Does Ben think that generals are empowered to arrest US citizens? Never mind, I don't actually want to know what Ben thinks.
I love this series. General Brett "Bear of a Man" Hawthorne is a great reprieve from the depressing bastards.
Did you notice the subtle detail that the bear of a man has a baritone?
Because I bet Ben... Didn't.
@@Zirnike A bearitone?
Don't forget his face made of granite :3
I'm enjoying this... but you need to have part numbers in the title (eg part 1, part 2, etc). Even better would be playlists.
No. It's way more entertaining when you realize that you've listened out of order and it really didn't matter
There's one, not made by them, but it really doesn't change much if you go out of order - it's not like there's any plot to miss.
Every time Big Jim comes up, I can't help but hear the name of another Jim from a Mark Twain novel. You know the one.
I am one hundred percent certain Ben was thinking of that too. Because if Jim is big, that means relative to others, he's... bigger...

Are we sure the Government didn't hire Ben to write this book for the purposes of "enhanced interrogation"?
Yes, because if the government came up with that idea the assignment would go to the past master at writing material used in torture, James hetfield.

They also said he was in Vietnam. So probably in his seventies.
Ben Shapiro thinks "Grenade" is the epitome of love songs
Only true leftists understand the sheer humanity of Robert's favorite Obama/Stalin fanfiction
Ngl, I've completely lost track of who is doing what in this book, and I honestly don't really care.
So did Cody.
18:07
"Brett never talked like this" Is he usually a tenor?
Theres so many different viewpoint characters in this book but their viewpoint is all presented almost identically. Even the scenes with evil characters feel like they are just the singular gestalt good guy character imagining what the evil people must be like.
You seem surprised that there is no editor, but what editor would be able to maintain their sanity and edit this garage?
One of the only things that he got right is that the texas government has a boner for secession.
SERIOUSLY. Look how great our electric grid works! We’re totally ready to be our own country!
Any other author I'd consider being charitable and say this book was intended to be satire.
But knowing Ben....yeah.....

I know that word from somewhere. I THINK I heard Yosemite Sam say it, maybe. Like, that's how old and corny it is.
Thanks, Obama - for inspiring Benny.
Ben needs to be banned from adverbs.
If Ben knew what an adverb was he'd be very upset
Given Chris Pratt’s political views, is it safe to assume that Brett Hawthorne and FBI agent Bert Macklin exist in the same cinematic universe?
57:54 - that's Gibbs' rule
Ben thinks cars and vans are made of "iron".
He thinks revving a motorcycle's engine deflects rocks being thrown at people.
I love the bit where the president needs cooperation from Mexico to implement domestic policy
maybe this is a dadaist masterpiece?
Ben Shapiro writing a remarkable parody of Maga and modern Conservatives is not what I had on my bingo card.
43:48 I'm sorry, Kendrick Malone? Are famous rappers the only black names Benny Shaps knows???
Since his first named black character is Levon, I think he’s sourcing song titles AND musical artists

God i love this
The only thing holding me back from writing a book is that I could be just as bad as Ben Shapiro.
I’m feeling the opposite. No matter what I put out it can’t possibly be this bad. I’ve done better writing for my DnD character backstory.

Back in the day, you actually had to be famous *for writing* before Heinlein Syndrome set in.

In the wake of January 6th, Robert's take on riots obviously not needing any kind of organized instigator is... thought-provoking...?
Just because it's raining, doesn't always mean there is a tornado. Doesn't invalidate the damage done.
Vans are not made of iron.
