Okay, so I'm not an expert on body types but my boyfriend is 6'2" and currently around 215lbs. He's definitely tall and broad-shouldered, but like...I definitely wouldn't describe him as "a bear of a man." He's got decent muscle definition, but being only 215lbs he has what people have called a stealth bod, I think? Like with his shirt off he's clearly in good shape, but depending on the clothes he wears you can't tell if he's a bit skinny, muscular, or even a little chubby. That dude who plays Jack Reacher on the Amazon show, for example, has gotta be like 230 at least, no? So I can't tell whether Benny used the term "bear of a man" just because he knows conservatives like that kind of description and he's lazy, or if being himself a foot shorter and like 160lbs with the little muscly arms he's so proud of means he has no idea how much weight/muscle it would take to make a bear-like dude who's 6'3". "sophie, there is nothing woker than letting a woman take the blame for a man's _very_ clear and obvious mistake" edit: after listening, all I have to say is that was ~exceptionally~ homoerotic. Even the parts without any men at all. Don't really know how that's possible, but ol' Benji found a way
I love how we spend multiple pages establishing how he learned the secret Black People art of talking his way out of things, but he *never does that* in the book. Like he gets out if problems by stabbing teenagers and running away from secret service agents.
When I was 11-ish years old, we had a writing thing at school where everyone got to write a short story about the future and have it featured in a "book" - which was just pages clamped together but still, it was fun - and I remember the story that the boy I had a crush on wrote. It was about him and his friends in class breaking out of a prison and getting their hands on all sorts of weapons, blasting off aliens and whatnot... I thought it was a weird story but I was a weird kid tbf. Ben's writing reminds me quite a lot of that story.
A further point about Mr. Yard. NOBODY knows his real name? I mean, I know that Ben doesn't see black people as human, but like, he shouldn't outright say it like that. I think Yard almost certainly knows his name. As does Yard's mother, and father, any family or friends... Honestly maybe the dude ~~Ben went to scho~~ WHO IS TOTALLY FICTIONAL just happens to have, like, the last name 'Yard' or something and Be-Er, BRETT-Just never bothered trying to find out.
I've been dealing with writer's block/insecurity about my writing lately, and decided that the smartest way to help me break through all of that would be to come back and binge all of this absolute brain rot again. While I may come out of this with significantly lowered brain function, at least the insecurity will be gone.
Sometimes i gave brain farts and forget the title "some more news" and when that happened I'll end up searching for Cody's showdy. I've had to do this literally dozens of times bc of my terrible aphasia.

Pashtu is not that complicated. Knowing a language, but not the culture ... quite the accomplishment. re: DLI classifies Farsi (parent language of the Pashtu dialect) as Cat 3 out of 4, the most difficult languages are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic. As an Arabic speaker, I would dispute Arabic being more difficult than Farsi ... which also weakens my point/citation.
...the fact that the Vikings did rap battles (or, well, they did flyting, which was very similar to battle rap) makes me look at people who see rap battles as a "black thing" as uneducated. Like... no. Verbal witticism has been a thing that *lots* of cultures through the years have appreciated, and being able to come up with clever insults on the fly then make them *rhyme* is pretty much peak verbal witticism.
While I find Ben Shapiro to be a whiny and insufferable little man; I would be interested to see a film adaptation of "True Allegiance" but set it in Northern Ireland during The Troubles, with a few of the cast members being personalities of The Daily Wire. This way we can get a peek at Ben's views on Northern Ireland.
Ben doesn't give "Yard" a real name as a tribute to the inspiration for this book, The Turner Diaries. Pierce didn't give the black characters names in that book as a means of dehumanizing them, and since Ben doesn't see African-Americans as humans either, he goes out of his way to not give this star football player a name. Because Ben Shapiro hates black people.
In the interest of only criticizing him for things he's actually doing, I didn't know the names of half the football team because they had these sort of nicknames. There's a guy who graduated, moved towns, moved back, but if you yell out "hey pancake" he'll turn around
just the premise of brett hawthorn being a BRIGADIRE GENERAL and being left behind in *name desert middle east country here* is fucking wild and would never happen irl. like basic googling shows that first it takes min 5 years of going through officer training at one of two specific places which everything about brett sceams no he is not a officer and he never went to those places because they would absolutely throw him out. i am 8 mins in and the detail of he is a general(yes a low ranking one but still) is baffling that he got left behind, makes the entire premise of this book go up in flames
I feel like it's crazy that, even though this was written before his term, this president character is basically just "Donald Trump (Democratic Party)"

"215 pounds in his underwear" is a really weird way to phrase that, Ben. You'd normally just say "215 pounds" and leave it at that, Ben, and people wouldn't think you meant "fully clothed, with combat boots on. Big, tough combat boots and like... shredded fatigues, showing just hints of glistening musculature... caked in sweat and dripping with bronzer..." So that you chose to specify, Ben, means you were explicitly picturing the "bear of a man" mostly naked, Ben. That said i doubt Ben wrote much of this. It was probably a series of ghostwriters working off an outline provided by an editor who themself had very little input from Ben, and *maybe* one or both of them made some revisions (but more likely just sent it out again for punch up and coherence to another freelancer). And as a queer person who has ghostwritten some chapters of truly bad racist machismo books, i can say that there are multiple ghostwriters who will gleefully make things as gay as possible when taking such work.

Either way, hilarious!
27:45, there’s really no way to learn a language that’s not your mother tongue without learning the target language’s culture. Language and Culture are intrinsically linked.
This channel is a fuckin diamond...I've been binging.
not to go to bat too hard for shapeebo here, but the mag used in the M9 has witness holes, so you can see how many rounds you have left at a glance. ejecting the mag also lets you check its weight more easily (for the same purpose, but when you have fully opaque magazines).
The Salon quote has lived in my mind nonstop
I love that you opened a channel and now I can tell people who need subtitles, even English ones just for understanding better, to go watch my first favourite podcast! Robert, you are hilarious and I really love listening to you. Next obvious step- Filmed podcasts! I think I'm gonna get a lot of support on this idea😊
So I don't know how sportsy most of the people on the cast are but...
...What the fuck sort of nickname for a football player is "Yard"?
That's like having a basketball player named "Hardwood" or "Scoretable." Like, there is either a very interesting story, or, more likely... Ben has no fucking clue what Football is.
Scoretable😂😂😂😂
42:10 everything else in this book might be trash, but this line was absolutely hilarious
Thank you, Ryan, for making the playlist. You're a real one.
"sophie, there is nothing woker than letting a woman take the blame for a man's _very_ clear and obvious mistake"
edit: after listening, all I have to say is that was ~exceptionally~ homoerotic.
I like how America has been fallling apart for 9 years but hasn’t fallen apart yet
Robert's voice and Sophie's background laugh give me energy. Thank you both.
"Novelist Ben Shapiro" nope sorry I think what you meant to say was, "failed screenwriter and magical jockey Ben Shapiro."
"haunted ventriloquist dummy"
@@inimitableminimalist "What, Mr. Marbles? He's harmless!"
Did this work?
@@nerag7459 Honestly, kinda. I hate-watched all of them, angrily vented to another writer friend about it, than actually got some writing done.
@@Velkhana22 Nice!
I laughed entirely too hard at Katie going "my dad didn't grow till he was 50". 😂
Anyone else kinda curious about Cody's Animorphs fanfics?
Sometimes i gave brain farts and forget the title "some more news" and when that happened I'll end up searching for Cody's showdy. I've had to do this literally dozens of times bc of my terrible aphasia.
If you want more, Adam Something did a good job talking about this book, too. I would say 30% of the stuff covered here, and 70% additional info.
35:08 “FUCK-PANTHER”…I can’t even…🤣🤣🤣
I was seriously wondering if they were indeed joking about the animorph erotica.
When you don't think you're racist, but you absolutely are: the novel
"True Allegiance" sounds like Tommy Wiseau and Neil Breen wrote "Mein Kampf" and translated it into too many languages on Google Translate before translating it back into English.
His odd sentence structure is common in screenwriting, so it's not a surprise he creeped that style in.
"What do they call you in Chicago, kid?"
"They call me Mr Yard."
Brett Hawthorne was 6'7 a Moose of a man A head cut from Hot Steele with a 7000 thread count Yamaka that never moves a millimeter even in the hell of open warfare 😂😂😂😂
I always love how Ben describes his hero, Brett Hawthron as a 'big bear of a man, standing 6'3, 215 lbs," which is just a kind of small college quarterback. Which, I get looks like a bear to Ben, but... is not.
"To be fair, you have to have a pretty high IQ to understand -rick and morty- black people talking."
When listening to the Elon Musk episode and hearing about Ben Shapiros book i was expecting an autobiography lol. This is much better.
34:06 How dare you!? Robert Evans's novel is rad and I think about it like once a month.
Ben. Benny. Big olllllll Benny B. I'm on my 4th fucking language. ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT ALSO LEARN THE CULTURE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK???
41:00 to 41:05 I’ve replayed that several times, and I can’t tell if the sound at the end is Sophie cackling, or wailing in doomed horror
just the premise of brett hawthorn being a BRIGADIRE GENERAL and being left behind in *name desert middle east country here* is fucking wild and would never happen irl. like basic googling shows that first it takes min 5 years of going through officer training at one of two specific places which everything about brett sceams no he is not a officer and he never went to those places because they would absolutely throw him out. i am 8 mins in and the detail of he is a general(yes a low ranking one but still) is baffling that he got left behind, makes the entire premise of this book go up in flames
Cookies can be hot w/o melting. Source: Me, former cookie-maker.
"Animorphs erotic literature" had me dying! 😂😂😂
Ben Shapiro writing a character that learned Pashtun but knows little of Afghan culture is right wing politics in a nutshell
The way he describes men makes me thinkg he needs to either church or a gay pub
Please continue. I need to know more!
The last chapter is Ben pretty much justifying killing of black kid, you do not want to know more
I have listened to this 20 times on the website
Finally others will know what i mean by "a big, bear of a man".
IN HIS UNDERWEAR
I feel like it's crazy that, even though this was written before his term, this president character is basically just "Donald Trump (Democratic Party)"
Having heard more of this book via this podcast it took me a moment to realise that "When the towers hit the building" at 7:40 was not in the book but was just a flub
48:21 “And he shall be Levon. And he shall be a good man.”
Oh to have Cody break out in to Elton John…
16:15: After they mentioned that song suddenly I had the second verse of CSNY's Chicago stuck in my head. "Politicians sit yourselves down, there's nothing for you here, Won't you please come to Chicago for a ride, Don't as jack to help you cause he'll turn the other ear, Won't you please come to Chicago or else join the other side."
You have to read the Levon part where BLM starts a race riot
i think they get to it in one of the other episodes or in a worst year ever episode
the leroy brown bit killed me cause i was just singing it before i clicked on this
This has become my favorite tinnitus blocker when i try to sleep.
Ben never met an adjective he didn't like.
There's also those pesky local libraries
That Rosetta stone never fails to get ya' on top of a language!
The blurb thing is normal. Every publicist does it. I know about a ballet company that absolutely bombed in one city, and managed to pick-quote for newspaper adverts in the next so that they wound up with sold out-crowds.
Where is Warmbo ?
I've been a nerd my entire life and possible on the spectrum, and obviously bullying is a horrible thing to do, but with some of these nerds ... whatever.
Behind the bastards is my favorite podcast
This isn't your average, everyday cringe. This is...advanced cringe.
Thanks for the video!
All hail the Algorithm
Hearing the hope in Robert's heart that the cop wouldn't kill the child...
His name was Yard because he played football in the yard and on the back of his jersey it said Yard!!! 😂😂😂
37:54 Only Ben Shapiro would be so flagrant and shameless to compare a government jobs program to Auschwitz
I think it is funny that Shabibo is so lacking in self-awareness that Prescot's speech handily refutes Shabibo's entire world view in a couple of paragraphs.
He's literally in control of what the guy says and even then he can't win a debate.
Man, when you mentioned "that damned smelt" I was just "oh shit, this is the stupid 'we own all the water even though we don't'" bullshit on the 5.
I've not read the Turner Diaries, but I've heard outtakes. Benny Shaps should be sued for copyright, even though I don't believe in it.
It's difficult to understand how much of an echo chamber someone has to be in to equate National Socialists with Jewish Neoconservatives.
"215 pounds in his underwear" is a really weird way to phrase that, Ben. You'd normally just say "215 pounds" and leave it at that, Ben, and people wouldn't think you meant "fully clothed, with combat boots on. Big, tough combat boots and like... shredded fatigues, showing just hints of glistening musculature... caked in sweat and dripping with bronzer..."
So that you chose to specify, Ben, means you were explicitly picturing the "bear of a man" mostly naked, Ben.
Why though?
i think all men, gay or straight, love to edit people's stuff to make it the other guy look gay. Classic move.
@@YoucancallmeishmaellRevenge.
@@Youcancallmeishmaell by the very nature of the work, if you got told "write from the perspective of a guy, who is describing a guy, and make him sound as manly and attractive as possible" there's no way it won't sound a little gay
I thought you reading from "The Religion Wars" was as bad as it would get. I was so very wrong.
Cody is right there. And better a fictional novel where he canget that out. It would be probably not good,or maketoomuch sense, but be entertaining. And igive jordan te creativity to really be entrtaining and wild and do dramatic situations, even if it maks little sense,He has talent as storyteller, i just wish he stayed with fictio tht might have his politicsrather than seling it as truth. And mybe make somethig akin to the room.
I found this to be really cute actually. I look forward to listening to more.
Just for the record: Ben did indeed lambast Trump for abandoning the Kurds in Syria.
Which one of Ben's racist novels?
8:30 nothing screams 5’3 and 115 pounds more than saying 6’3 215 is a hulking perfect physique for a man lol that would put him at the high end of average for BMI
Very slightly overweight (I looked it up). He is a sort of muscly twig.
Meanwhile the actual bears are straight-up obese
In his underwear and bare feet... like wtf hahahaha
Brett Hawthorne had an enzo growth spurt
Can you make more videos on this book?
There are other progressive previwer tearing it apart out there :P
ithink ames tullos is a good one, he hs other weird books too, steven seagals is,very em.
Looks like Shaperio got his "Derrick" friend in Candice Owen.
