I always felt like she was constantly acting as a character in her own movie. One day she's a transgender youth another she is a intelligent college student, or an artsy quirky girl. And she was a very bad actress at that, throughout her trial I found her to be arrogant and unlikable and self centered, as well as lacking in any sense of self awareness.
Not a psychologist, but everything about Ezra screams BPD and extreme narcissism. She acts like the court room is her own little reality show until that sentence hits home
I was thinking more or less the same thing: Jodi Arias and Dalia Dippolito ( it took 3 trials before she could be convicted and stay convicted. Then again, Dalia had a little more "time on the table" as they say, in this particular game.) Someone on another video stated that she was just in the habit of using sex to get what she wanted. I don't think it was that cut and dried. I said I thought perhaps McCandless was the Perfect Dark Triad Trifecta, ie. She had all of the dark triad disorders. She needed Narcissistic supply, and for someone who didn't work, and had no money, she viewed herself as the ancient soul born into the world, and tried to give everyone with whom she came in contact a taste of that; that they were viewed as a soul mate. She did this by attempting to be all things (including all genders), at all times to all people. She is like a marketing campaign and the product is Ezra McCandless and she is selling the sizzle, not the steak. After all, she was fine periodically moving out of Jason's house when SHE wanted to; (BPD), she wanted all people to remain in her circle for supply, she wanted the freedom to choose new partners with new experiences, and additional romance and money; or even to stop being a girl occasionally, which must be the penultimate for someone with BPD. I cannot take your calls right now; I am busy being a boy. Once I become a girl again, I will return your call; and due to her Machiavellian traits, she actually maintained a livelihood of just hanging around a coffee shop all day, casting out her line, and when a promising victim came along, she reeled them into her web. She was used to being the one who took breaks to experience new supply, but when she could not get Jason back, I think the Narcissistic injury was so great that the perpetrator that caused her to experience this failure had to pay with his life. Of course, I'm not diagnosing anyone here; only speculating on what could be happening in a situation like this. )
Dr. Grande. Could you please do an analysis of the mental health and personality of people who watch your videos instead of getting prepared for work tomorrow.
I listened to the 911 call, her police interviews, and her testimonies in court....she really thought she was smarter than everyone and would get away with this.
I think the motive was rage. She had a sexual encounter with one of Mengel's friends. Mengel found out about it. Ezra didn't want Mengel knowing that she had cheated on him so she fabricated a story that the guy had raped her. She even went so far as to report it to the police and she seemed quite alright with sending the poor guy to prison for many years. Woodworth, the murder victim, had gone to the police and told them that McCandless had told him that the encounter was in fact consensual. The police investigated and did not end up charging the innocent guy with rape. The result of all this was that Mengel knew that she had cheated on him. She was not happy about that. This made her furious with Woodworth.
I've just watched the whole trial. What you say is true and to add more detail, she was in communication with Mengel with both planning on getting back together when she was spotted by woodworths flat mate coming out of his shower in a towel. That message got relayed to Mengel and he was furious (again no doubt). This happened 24 hours before Woodworth was killed and ezra was pressing everyone to tell Mengel it was a lie. She needed Woodworth to tell Mengel he was lying about John Hanson AND that he was coercing her into having a relationship she didn't want to have. She needed him to take responsibility for the shower encounter and admit their ongoing relationship was not actually happening. I imagine, the poor fella didn't comply with her request and she lost the plot. Mengel was a fool to stay in contact with her and in some part is responsible for Woodworths death. Mengel also sent a photo of graffiti on the door of Racys coffee shop where woodworth worked and they all hung out. The photo had her telephone number and the words 'fuq me' over it. She was humiliated, caught out, running out of road and losing the one thing she wanted, which was getting her own way. I think the girl 'gone snapped' and alex woodworth took the full force of the hit. Sad sad story. Rip to his family.
You're 2 years earlier, and far more eloquent, than I am! That's exactly how I saw it, too! She was sleeping with John (the guy she'd claimed had raped her), Jason, *and* Alex! ... and the guys were all friends with one another as well.
Loving this comment in a video where there's not a plant in sight except for the first 30 and last 15 seconds. Fun. He does have a variety of shirts though, I'll give him that.
These videos help me relax and sleep at night instead of laying awake until the morning and stressing out. @@sarahholland2600 Yah, I agree with you. This sounds like all young love. It isn't until your brain develops as you get older and realized how unrealistic your idea of love was when you were so young.
I think it goes back to her inability to regulate her emotions with regard to her relationship to her guy she wanted. She was convinced that Woodworth was the reason she lost him but unwilling to accept that her own actions were the cause rather than Woodworth’s refusal to lie and incriminate himself for her. As a very young woman, he was her first real love and I think she fixated on him and the sabotaged herself. I don’t know what her plan was when she rolled back into town and she probably didn’t either but she was going to do something to get the man’s attention. I think it was just her rage at not being able to get what she wanted and Woodworth symbolized the reason for that. He symbolized her mistake and her inability to control things.
But she had nicked her Dad's knife before she set out although she may have thought she was just going to threaten him into backing up her version of all her dalliances
I've never heard of an "ancient love so powerful" between two people that would allow one of those people to be cheating on the other one within TWO MONTHS of living together. Sounds more like an ancient excuse to me. In simpler terms, she cheated on her man and then regretted it. She spoke to everyone and anyone who would listen about her private life, much more like a teenage school girl relationship where she blabbed every detail to her friends.
I have a theory that she really thought that she was that hot that Jason (an older man who she saw as below her) would allow her to be with whoever she wanted. But when he didn’t she panicked. She had to get him back because he was supporting her financially and she didn’t wanna go back to her mom. So she designed a plan where she thought she could “prove” all the accusations she had made before. She is a textbook narcissist. They are always very promiscuous and they only like the rush of the relationship. They wanna be with everybody because they love the thrill and the attention . But they also want the attention of a constant lover. So they often cheat.
She said _Into the Wild_ was written *by* Chris McCandless, having to be corrected by her lawyer. Makes me wonder how much she really knew about the person she named herself after. Ironic considering Chris actually rejected the name McCandless himself. Ezra Supertramp would have been more appropriate. But she seems to stay on the shallow end of deep subjects.
This is a very interesting case. I am excited to hear what Dr Grande has to offer. I found Ezra to be highly manipulative and pseudo intellectual. Frankly, people like her annoy me.. I think she manipulated the man she killed and grew frustrated when he didn't play her game.
I watched her testimony (listened, really) while I painted last week. I actually had to turn it off because her fake intellect was so annoying. She is a talented artist. I think she killed that guy because of simple resentment and yes, foolish thinking that with him dead, she could have the older guy. I am a survivor of domestic violence. Her story of defending herself is bullshit. Another great one, thank you!
The faux intellect when she couldn't pronounce words like albeit or altruistic was painful. The fact she was allowed to interpret the victims writings was disgusting
@@whims6278That sticks with me most in this case. I would have loved to have had just five minutes of conversation with Alex. I know I wouldn't be able to keep up, but my favorite thing to do with people is to pick their brains and see what makes them themselves. Alex was extremely open about his worldview, his philosophies, desires, motives, morals, weaknesses, etc. And his worldview that he describes is one of selfless love and endless empathy for those around him. Even hearing about the type of person he was helps visualize the blinding light of pure GOODNESS that he was. A senseless, tragic loss. I hope that his family publishes at least some of his writings because in a world as horrible as this one, much of what he wrote about is a healing balm on the festering infection of greed, anger, and apathy that we are facing today. I pray his family finds peace that he is now an angel watching over them and all those he sought to help in his short but well-lived life.
Same; I was watching her testimony on the dreading YT channel and I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't see how so many people were fooled by her so-called charm. She was hardly charming at all. Her lack of remorse in saying "sorry for your loss" was very telling, as if to distance herself from having committed the crime.
@@amimi92When she started out that she was sorry, I was extremely hopeful that she would finally own up to her actions and take responsibility for her crimes. But then she proceeded to downplay her role in Alex's death. I was disappointed only in the fact that I was hoping to find something redeeming in her personality. Every person is capable of being better by facing the consequences of their actions and apologizing. But she once again ran away from the truth of the matter. I don't think she'll reflect on her actions for the next fifty years she'll definitely be locked up. Not one thought will be spared in sympathy to the family, to Alex, to her friends, to Jason, to John, etc. She believes she's completely in the right.
Of all the weird murder stories out there I found this one a little hard to understand. It didn't seem like even enough sexual jealousy to be a crime of passion. She just seems to be nuts😳 appreciate Dr Grande for putting some thoughts out there on her mental state.
@@alladreamwedreamed I agree 100%. This case was so confusing and disjointed, and all over the place. There didn't seem to be a clear reason or motive for the killing. Was she nutty enough to think if she killed this guy, then the other guy would take her back? Idk. Can't get into the mind of this murderer. That's a good thing, I think. 🥴
I’d love to see Dr. Grande’s take on CHRIS McCandless. He starved to death in 1992 after isolating himself, in the rugged terrain of Alaska - completely unprepared and disillusioned with what it took to survive in that environment. Some say he did it on purpose - that he was suicidal. Some say he was just completely out of touch with reality. His severely underweight body was found by Moose Hunters in an abandoned bus in the middle of the Alaska with a journal detailing his slow, agonizing death.
Im a Patreon supporter so I’ll message Dr. Grande about this there too. I’d love to see what he thought about Chris McCandless. The story has fascinated me since I was I young child. So sad, terrifying, and strange.

Dr. Grande always provides an insightful case analysis synopsis with an incredible sense of humor; he never fails to make me chuckle, which is ironic given the typical subject matter/s.
Her behavior during her trial is so strange, especially during Mengal’s testimony. She even put on a green sweater that he had given her while she was in the hospital under her blazer before his testimony and smirked and pulled back her blazer to show it while he was on the stand.
@@kenmore01 i would really like to know if anyone ever tried to figure out if she had a developmental delay or something, as her entire behavior and thinking as far as i can see are not that of a 20 something y/o. I wonder why her defense didn't try that, in addition to the mom being so young when she was born and her having identity issues it would have made a great sob Story for the Jury
@@inkompetenzkompensationsko4188 I completely agree. I know some people develop more slowly than others. Of course stabbing someone is a trait that older people develop, but your defense would have been a good one indeed!
People who are quick to move the relationship forward with you are also often quick to have you fall out of favor with them. This is especially true in the case of Borderlines. Don't put much stock into such relationships. It always backfires and you'll be the one holding the bill while they run off with their new flavor of the month.
It's important to always have the BPD in mind. Personally I have a no romantic rule with suspected BPDs around me. It's done me rather well, kept me alive and sane.
“Maximus Decimus Meridius”🤣🤣🤣🤣 She would most certainly need the other arm to complete her writing. What a tragedy, Woodworth had his whole life ahead of him, he was only 24! Really sad.😔 Thank you for the analysis Dr. Grande, I hope you are having an enjoyable Sunday! 💚
I feel confident that he won't let the celebrity change him, and I hope to be here when he reaches 1 million. I still think he could be a professional ghost writer if he isn't already secretly in the hip hop world 😆
Wouldn't be surprised if the White House called to fill an extra couple of seats at those dreadfully dull state dinners. Just wait till they unwrap this guy!!!
I watched this trial and Ms. Monica (Ezra) LOVED every minute of it! When Jason walked in to testify against her, she literally blushed like a teenager. I don't think she appreciated the fact that she killed someone, ended their life, and Woodworth's family and loved ones suffered an immense loss because of her actions. She is self indulging and immature, although she portrays herself as this deep thinking progressive person, she is simply a murderer. Just my humble opinion. You always do an amazing job Dr. of telling the facts, giving a professional analysis, and sprinkling in the perfect blend of your unique, deadpan humor in the process. Thank you! LOVE the shirt btw. 😉

The way she testified reminds me how smart I used to think I was in high school at like 15-16. 32 now and can’t believe I thought I had so much life experience. Lol she is super manipulative and confused.
I don't think back anymore to who I was and how I behaved from high school through college. Cringe worthy lol. So obnoxious can't believe I wasn't beat to death.
I watched this trial. The way she acted when her ex walked into court was too creepy. My theory is that she killed Alex because he wouldn’t lie about the kind of relationship they had and she didn’t want Jason to have the truth.
Plus some other friend had spilled the beans to Jason literally a couple of days before the murder and Jason dumped her yet again . Jason was constantly changing his mind about whether he wanted a relationship with her . Should have known better at his age and firmly dumped her after the abortion when he bailed and sodded off to the redwoods for 2 weeks
I think her baseline is creepy in court. Like calculating and recalibrating each second while seeming too calm and chill. Something with her head tilts
Dr. Grande, did you watch Jason Mengel testify? I watched it on the court TV, TH-cam channel. The court TV host commented on Ezra’s reaction to Mengle. Her facial expression definitely changed when she saw him. She appeared to still be infatuated with him.
I think it's interesting that her counsel likely coached her on her physical appearance (use of over-large glasses that don't hide her eyes, pink and pastels, and the flowing hair imply a childlike innocence), but she continued to use inappropriate word choice. It would suggest that she either went against counsel or they didn't really try that hard.
There is a deep metaphysical understanding that lite, bright colors make one feel better. I would not recommend black. If a person is sensitive enough black colors feel heavy and depressing. I like Dr. Grandes choises over the recent videos of light green, orange and pink. If a person is intuitive they can feel the happiness in those colors.

I like to start my evening the same way I like my Starbucks... Grande!😁 To me this sounded heavily Borderline Personality Disorder. It seems like her "plan" (for lack of a better term) was in some way intended to manipulate the sympathies of the man she most desired. Although I'm not qualified to diagnose anything, for a long while now I have extraordinary suspensions that my sister has BPD, and I believe that the birth of my nephew (who I eventually adopted) was a plan to more or less trap her boyfriend into staying with her. (Obviously backfired.) I'm not saying that people with BPD are masterminds, just saying that the motivation (desperation) to hold on to people leads them to make poor decisions.
Loving bright shirts lately, Dr. Grande! Another great video - thank you for the consistent, high quality content. Definitely a breath of fresh air these days. Take care!

I've become so interested in your extremely well articulated and concise analysis of these cases Dr. Grande! As a mental health worker for many years I am so fascinated by people and their behaviours and there is a fine line sometimes in getting an analysis wrong. It takes a certain high level of interpersonal skill and intellect to read a person's behaviour, that possibly, no amount of academia can achieve. Even with your academic status, you appear to have this incredible ability. I am nowhere near as academically educated as you are yet and you are incredible to listen to partly for this reason - I am learning from you immensely! I am very experienced on an interpersonal level so feel I can relate to your analysis ability and its ridiculously exciting to hear when your ideas align with mine as I follow you through your descriptions and analysis. Throughout this particular case, whilst you touched on it not being mentioned almost as a nod to your own possible prediction, I felt this person was radiating behaviours aligned with BPD and possibly histrionic. One of my biggest intruiges at the moment is how the manifestation of nurodivergent types can blend and impact on the level of personality disorder type - or if they're simply commonly interlinked. Whilst currently doing a challenging social work degree (UK), I myself have recently been diagnosed with dyslexia with an uncommon assessed type due to extremely high IQ verbal comprehension so my reading and writing abilities are very good, if not advanced (when writing properly - please, I hope nobody judges my late night youtube comments for spelling and grammer 😆) and contrary to the typical perception of dyslexia. It's only when analysing the assessment criteria for dyslexia in detail we/I discovered that there are so many aspects to who I am that are affected by my dyslexia that do not show in my reading and writing, like my processing speed with certain things and my memory recall when reading - this area is poor. This all can affect how I socially communicate, prepare speech and socially present. When I consider that all nuero-divergent types are basically on their own spectrum dependent on the nature and nurture of the personality, I wonder; how much does nuerdivergence play a part in the worsening of personality disorders and does it go undetected because they are essentially 'high functioning/high maskers/high IQ in a particular aspect of mental abilities'. I want to waffle endlessly about stuff like this so apologies to anyone I've bored to sleep along the way but truly, for anyone who is fascinated by this stuff, I LOVE reading your views and opinions. Thank you for your fascinating insights Dr. Grande and your followers!
_Maximum Decimus Meridius..._ 😂🤣😄 Stahhhpp. She just seems like another vapid narcissist to me and I don't buy the "boy" thing. Glad you're the doctor! Plus, you're funny as hell! Thank you Dr Grande. 👍🌹

@@stefanforrer2573 Ha! They are the latest fashion accessory that guilty defendants wear in court. Jodi, Shayla, Katie in Florida...the list goes on and on. I am really surprised that defense attorneys continue to try using this trick when it's clear that all glasses do is make the guilty defendants look guiltier. With Ezra, it reminded me of the fake glasses that first graders parade around with.

Hey I have a suggestion. I'm hoping you would be willing to do a video on Bodybuilders and competitive bodybuilding. Im a Bodybuilder and personal trainer and I can tell you that the personality profiles and reasons behind why people do this is very interesting. I think it would make a very good video.

Plus, I believe she didn’t know whether the baby was Alex’s or her boyfriend’s. I believe this contributed to her decision to get an abortion.
Becoming a murderer generally changes one's opinion of said person.

Her story of defending herself is bullshit. Another great one, thank you!
The faux intellect when she couldn't pronounce words like albeit or altruistic was painful. The fact she was allowed to interpret the victims writings was disgusting
@@whims6278 really disgusting!

Oh my goodness! I just asked about this, I’m sure you already had it in the works but very excited to see what you think.

To me this sounded heavily Borderline Personality Disorder.

This is the scientific approach to a mental health topic I didn’t even know I needed in my life

Lost-prophets gui?
@@8thhousemoonrabbit205 yeah, I forgot about the lost prophets but used to listen to them back in fifth or sixth grade, lol. But somehow I stumbled upon some crime report about Watkins a few months back, and thought his name sounded familiar... what a sick son of a bitch
@@MalcH giving babies meth and then violating them is unbelievable
@@MalcH I remembered them and I think I was around 16- I thought their music was catchy but the lead singer sounded pretentious in a way that was 'super cool™️' lol.
I thought there were alot of rockers like him and figured he was one of those types who exploited his appeal, intuitively.
I was really disturbed, still at how deeply depraved he turned out to be- I wouldn't have guessed, that. (I have trouble remembering his legal name, he always seemed like a gimmick)
LOVE what you said about being able to study philosophy for the next 50 years, Dr. Grande! Was perfect comic relief!
I would love to hear your analysis of the Phoebe Handsjuk case. It’s such an interesting case and the behavior of pretty much everyone involved leading up to and after her death was very strange.
Yes very weird! And so sad! To fall down the garbage chute and she died from bloodless bc her foot was literally severed. So sad and bc of a terrible investigation we will likely Never know what happened!
Great analysis Dr. Grande! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to all these cases! ♡
What an awful web of lies and deceit she created!
Glad to see the cactus that wears his little purple hat back in the picture! :) ♡
Yay! The topic I requested! I feel speckle 😊
No one can ever say he doesn't listen to his audience, thank you Dr. Grande, you're the besticles with the testicles❤
Exact reason why I'm a dr. G stan
I requested this last January.
That was weird
@@matteframe or maybe he will analyse adults who use emojis!
@@matteframe haha, sorry I couldn’t resist.
Thank you for your insight, It does help in understanding to a certain degree why people do crazy harmful things to others.
Wow! My dad was really close friends with Chris McCandless! They went to Emory together!
Oh wow, really? Did he ever try to talk him out of leaving?
@@dewilew2137 My dad has always said that he didn’t even know Chris was planning to try and survive in the wilderness after college. :(
Chris's bag had a dildo in it but it never made the movie since it might confuse the narrative
@@derekweinerttv4163 what..
😳 what a connection
loved this video. love your humor bits. so fun
Love the color of your shirt ❤️❤️!!
@F Trakk I would have gone with Spring Green 🦎, but hey! Not everybody can wear Puke 🤢 to their advantage, after all! Do I detect a slight sense of envy there 😉?
I enjoyed this insightful analysis, Dr. G. Very thorough. I really appreciate the juxtaposition of McCandless’ behavior with Arias and Hubers.
