I've always used multiple monitors because it was easy to put each window on it's own monitor and maximize it. I was actually forced to use an ultra wide when I switched from a desktop to a laptop that could only output one external monitor. I really like it. With the software that allows you to snap windows in place it's much more flexible. And one huge monitor is also nice for some gaming sessions when I am not working.
I have a 34 inch monitor and one problem I have is when I share the screen over Teams the remote people complain the view is hard to read. I think when the monitor is large the remote scaling makes the fonts scale really small. Is there a way around that?
Being a software developer, this is exactly what I wanted to know about usability of an ultrawide. Thanks Travis and it certainly feels like a neat setup and smooth Workflow compared to multi-monitor setup. I use 2 monitors and my 15" mbp at work. For home office, am considering an Ultrawide. For less clutter and other benefits which you have mentioned in your review quite clearly. I have one question, as I do watch movies and edit photographs aside from programming. So a decent pixel density would be handy for me. Now 34" with FHD (standard HD) would mean low DPI. Due to this and also budget constraints, am leaning towards 32" or even a 29" widescreen and possibly use my macbook pro as the 2nd screen (if/when required). Do you think that would still provide enough screen width for a multi window Workflow as you have shown here? I would appreciate your input and suggestions on this. Thanks in advance.
Absolutely, I think that would work great as well. I considered a 27" and then using my laptop as a second screen. With the 34" I dont need it, but if I had to cut a few inches I would use my macbook as a second screen. As to your question, the 34 allows for 3 windows nicely and I wouldn't really want to go smaller and try to fit three windows. However, I could do so with a macbook on the side because essentially I could put a window there and it be more than sufficient. Then you can shoot two windows around (or even more depending on what you are working with). So I think your proposed setup is a good one. Maybe consider a stand for the macbook to keep the desk space minimal. The key for me is not to have to give two monitors a shared primary focus. But to have one main monitor, or in your case, one main monitor, with a secondary window on the side. So yeah, I would go for it. Let me know if you have any more questions about it.
@@TravisMedia Perfect! Thanks for the detailed response, that helps. I do already have a height adjustable stand and set of external keyboard/mouse, which I currently use for keeping the laptop screen at eye level. @@SarpdorukTahmaz My current setup is really good for both gaming and productivity. It´s the LG 34GN850. It has 3440x1440p, GSynch (& Freesynch) and many more. 8 month ago, i bought a 2560x1080p Monitor. Well that was good for gaming, but not for productivity. When you code, you could literally see those pixels. If you don´t mind that, go for it, it´s usually somewhat at 300-450 bucks. But I would recommend a monitor with at least 2560x1440p.
I still like dual 4k monitors with exact same models side by side. currently I have two 4k dell U2715q. two monitors really can scope the work zone more efficiently, cause I often use MAXIMIZE, and use one as my main monitor and another just coding. for MacOS, the swap between different virtual desktops are even easier when you have multiple monitors setup.
Great video Travis, just what I was looking for. Just curious, do you think a 32 inch 4k monitor would be a good alternative to this sort of setup (everything on one screen) or is an ultrawide a better solution? I want to be able to run two VM's side by side for my cybersecurity class. I know this stuff is subjective, just want to hear your opinion if you have the time. Thanks!
I'm still deciding. I use zoom or teams video meetings a lot which can be a pain. using 2 monitors I can just share screen #2 and move things into view. With a single monitor I need to show either the whole screen or a specific app. So most likely I'm wanting to present different programs which seems I have to share the app and then unshare to share another app when using one screen... Nice monitor and might take the plunge. Thanks for the video.
That’s a great point and a compelling use for multiple monitors. You could though use your open laptop (assuming that’s what you are using) screen to drag windows into and just show the laptop screen.

Hi. I just bought a 43" Widescreen LC43J890DKUXEN but I think I will give it back. Disagree. Hitting a shortcut key or dragging within a grid is much more efficient than having to open an OnScreen control panel and then choosing between pre-defined grids. But overall, it's what is most efficient for you.

Kyle Gallagher Point noted. Developers like to have many monitors. It gives many anxiety to think of only having one. Thus the reason for showing how one monitor can handle many windows, especially ultrawides. That was the intention. However I had a comment or two saying that I failed to do a proper review of the monitor itself even though that wasn’t the intention either. Can’t win them all.

This seemed to be more of an advertisement for the software and not the monitor...
There are lots of videos out there showing this monitor in detail. My focus is mainly how it works with coders and is it efficient or not. The software makes it such.
Solved my tabs problem at least
What happens if you have your youtube-video on 1/3 of the screen and maximize the video? Does it go fullscreen in 1/3 or on the whole screen?
there are virtual (full-)screen programms and browser extensions. You can try one of this and setup one half or third as a virtual desktop. Basically emulating that this part of your ultrawide behaves like a screen on it own. You have to research which works best for your own usecase the most but both should work fine :) Otherwise it should take the whole screen and give you huge black space left and right sadly
Hi. I just bought a 43" Widescreen LC43J890DKUXEN but I think I will give it back. The "easy setting box" program to split the screen is a mess, the "eye saver mode" is a fraude and to the texts look awful (pixelated, not smooth). I need a good monitor to code and picture/video editing. I had a LG32" MP58HQ that I liked it very much but it burned my eyes and the resolution was 1920x1080 (awful). Please could you recommend me a good big (more than 38") monitor that is good for the eyes, coding and picture/video editing?. Thank you sooooo much on behalf my eyes! :)
Lol! I subbed. I watched you switch windows around for a good amount of time. Lol! If anyone can make me watch them do screen real estate allocation for roughly 7 mins, you got my vote. Haha
Regardless, good informative video, and I agree with the dual screen confusion thing. Lol. So this was awesome.
Hi all, thx for the video, but i have question. I usually use one monitor watching video for learning (full screen) , other monitor writing code. With this monitor Split one time and get two monitor (right Side coding left Side watching) can i use watching Side full screen mode but half of monitor. I will be really happy if you answer.

Soo the grid predetermines the size? What if you want it just a bit larger or smaller?
You can always manually resize the windows as well.
Hi, how would the text/code displayed on such big screen.?
Why not use macOS spaces with split screen?
Hey Mike, honestly wasn’t aware of spaces. From what I’m reading, it seems not a lot of people are. Thanks for bringing this up and sharing, I’m going to look into it today.
Thanks for the video! I’m a software developer too and using a dual monitor setup at work but considering an ultra wide monitor to my home office. I have been thinking an 34” samsung monitor with a resolution of 3440 x 1440. I have an ok working laptop with an ok crapchics card but the processor is Intel i5. Would you have any idea is that enough processor power for that screen - mainly for web procing and programming etc. ? Now I am running two full hd 24” monitors without problems.
Did you buy?
Do you think I can use this monitor with a Macbook Pro Retina (Early 2015) without loosing much quality? Thanks
Rubén Montes absolutely
I would still love two separate monitors side by side.
Lol this guy sounds like he is speaking at a ted talk
How did you set up your mac book to the moniter I'm planning on getting the same one
I bought this adapter which handles all my needs (given that you are using a newer macbook with usb-c ports). It has the HDMI port to hook the monitor up plus a handful of other inputs.

Might as well just get a 4k monitor that is the same length as an ultra wide, more vertical space.
Other ultra-wide reviews address this. Without the curve you have to move your head to see the sides which equals neck strain/pain after a few hours. With the curved ultra-wide you can see the sides with your peripheral or by just moving your eyes.
Wait... Macs don't have a window to screen snapping out of the box? WTF? Its pretty standard for Windows and Linux machines.
Ha you’re correct. Not that I know of at least.
@@TravisMedia Wow. Ok.
@@TravisMedia MacOS 10.15 certainly has it, at least a basic one. Hover over the upper left's green button, choose left side or right. One then chooses another program for the other side. Then one can slide the middle divider right or left. There's another "snapping" mechanism, too, but I don't know much about it as I don't use it.
y dont you get a projector lol any ideas
What about 43 inch from lg and dell ???
Thats big!
@@TravisMedia is it worth buying if someone is into coding ?
satinder gill I don’t have any experience with the 43, only the 34, but I think the overall experience should be the same as I talked about in this video
that grid model is so stupid and complicated, check lg and samsung how easy it is in those monitors
Disagree. Hitting a shortcut key or dragging within a grid is much more efficient than having to open an OnScreen control panel and then choosing between pre-defined grids. But overall, it's what is most efficient for you.
so you're just trying to sell an app that no-one really needs?
Misleading title
Kyle Gallagher how so?
@@TravisMedia More than half the time you talk about using a window resizing tool instead of detailing how the ultra wide aspects of the monitor affect how you code. A better title would be, how i use divy to resize windows on my ultrawide monitor.
@@TravisMedia Ah, gotcha. Def true, thanks for the reply!

What is the name of the app?
I cant find the app name!! where is it?
