    That's the best footage EVER on a Close Up use of the Laravae transfer process, using the Chinese Grafting Tool. Just awesome. 👍
    Only thing to remember, us Left Handed need that white reed Uppermost on the Other (Left side) of a Wax Cell. 😉

    Hi David, I’m not a beekeeper but I am extremely interested in beekeeping and would love to do it if I ever have the available space. I really enjoy watching your videos!
    My comment isn’t about beekeeping. You mentioned you were having trouble leaving donations on other live streams so I wanted to suggest speaking to your credit card company and asking them if there is a way to authenticate charges that are done online by sending you a text message to confirm it’s you. They might be able to but they might not.
    Most credit card companies are more strict when it comes to unknown purchases online and they will block the charge due to potential fraud. Also, using a debit card instead of a credit card would be more likely to be approved.

    I’m rewatching again. You got my question answered perfectly. You talk about raising queens for your apiary. We’ll say I have 10 queens but don’t necessarily need but 3. If I didn’t sell any I’d have to put them somewhere. So 5 frame nuc? 2frame nuc? So if I have them in a mini colony until needed where do the bees I have with her go if I put her into another hive. You said you could let them raise their own queen or dump them into another colony. Thank you.

    Great video. I was able to try grafting up at the Dyce Lab during the EAS Conference last August. Like you mentioned when you get older it's harder to see and the shakiness doesn't help. I felt discouraged, but I will take your advice and work on that with better lighting, glasses and bracing my hand. Where can I acquire the poster behind you?

    Dave, you mentioned that one can sell the queens for profit. My insurance agent told me that my homeowner's policy would not cover any liability resulting from selling queens or nucs and that I would have to get a business policy which would cost at least $500 a year.

    • @beek
      @beek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Insurance for business/homeowner is tricky. We have a business policy. Many homeowner policies are not too happy when they find out you have bees, and most homeowner policies do not cover business the way it should be covered. Consult with your agent for the right insurance. Get MUCH MORE than you need.

    Thanks you for your video. I am having trouble understanding what, and how many, equipement I would need to rear 10 queens or which I will use 3 to re-queen hives and sell the rest. For example, how many nucs , deeps, etc. would I need?
    It would be very helpful if you provided a list of what is needed to rear queens.

    Hi David, I am not a beekeeper yet so these may sound like a stupid questions.......If you have a healthy colony could you not just put some of the frames of brood and bees into a new hive that is queenless? Wouldn't the bees in this new hive just raise a new queen of their own? Or could you take a swarm or queencup from the healthy hive and attach it somehow to one of the frames in the new hive?
    Also, regarding drones, is it the nurse bees that determine the sex of the developing larva by feeding or caring for those eggs or larva differently?
    I'm sure these are very basic questions to you, but I've never seen or understood these concepts. Thanks, Harry

    • @beek
      @beek  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Harry, you could move frames over and yes they would raise a queen IF there were eggs on that frame. Yes, you can carefully move queen cups too. Nurse bees have no influence over the sex of bees. Only the queen. She either lays fertilized eggs (female workers) or unfertilized eggs (Male Drones)

      There's a lot more to it than that. That might help if you like the stock of those colonies, especially mite resistance. You might see first how it goes without going to the trouble of moving hives.

    Hey David! Question...i researched beekeeping for years and years before taking the plunge. I had 2 bad experiences a few years ago, and am giving it a go again. I see that you have many many videos, and i cant decide where to look first. Can you plz point me to a good beginning video of yours to watch today, then recommend where to go from there? I understand about management and why its important. But im getting overwhelmed by the same o'l same ol'. I like your vids and teaching style and would like to pare it down to managable bites for right now. Im asking this bc Im getting an over-wintered local hive this Saturday. If youre interested in my 2 bad experiences, then i can tell you that in short, the first one was going swimmingly and i didnt manage the hive properly and SHB sent my bees packing. The second one absconded in 5 days. The second one may have had an unmated Queen. So im hopeful with this over-wintered hive, and plan to be on top of everything this time. So that being said, plz help give me some good places to start for re-education. I want to be successful. I live on 2 acres of an 80 acre family farm in NWArkansas, have a big garden, lots of perennial flowering herbs bees like and 6 fruit trees and TONS of dead nettle in bloom right now. May and June will be buttercups. When i go out for the last 4 weeks, the place just buzzes with bee activity. I have to watch where I i walk bc theres so many. I love it and often sit down with them and just watch and listen. They're still put foraging today. I wish they would stay....
