    When you have honey crystallize in buckets, what I have found that works really well is using a bee blanket, which is a heated blanket that wraps around the bucket and within 2 to 3 days it completely liquefies the honey and it keeps it below 100°, so it maintains its raw form

    I put the cappings in containers on top of the inner cover in each hive they came out of. Bees clean them up completely and no need to waste any honey or wash the cappings. I extracted frames in April and in May so far and put frames back in the hives for them to clean up also.
    I've always melted down old dark brood comb and get clean yellow wax from them also.
    I never melt down honey combs as they can use them the next year. Drawn comb is gold.

    Very interesting that you mentioned your honey from last week was the thinnest you have ever seen while I just spun out 17 frames from this year on Tuesday and it was probably the thickest honey we have had. We are in Carlock Il just a little north west of you. Most of it was completely capped over as well. Enjoy your youtube podcasts as it helps me keep in check with things I need to make sure I am on top of even though I have been beekeeping for about 8 years now. Loving the Demaree method!

    I’ve had such a time getting to the live stream! Thank you for making them available online. You are always so full of good advice and thoughts for us. God bless you both!!❤. I’ve been a BeeTeam member for two years and have been so glad to have you available for what may seem to some as such a stupid question and you never make it seem like it. You are such a gentleman with your answers. You are so likable!!❤❤❤Thank you both so much!!

    I don’t rinse my wax off to clean, I simply leave it outside for the bees to pick it clean.

    I harvested my 1st honey this year from the bees I got last year. 1 deep yielded me 26 1/2 pints! I was excited and had a lot of fun harvesting my own honey from bees I have nurtured and used a lot of your advice from videos to raise. Thanks for all you and Sheri do!

    Vevor are awesome cheap honey extractors, I got a motorized 4 deep or 8 medium honey extractor for about $200 USD.

    sharing because someone might find this helpful ... when i first got into beekeeping and was using the crush and strain method, I did it the way you did once and only once lol. Then the second time I used medical gloves and that was a huge mistake - sure it keeps the hands cleaner but have fun getting them off. By the third time i was using a uncapping brush and just letting the honey drain via gravity hanging over plastic tubs but that took too long. The 4th time I just scraped all the comb off the frames and let it drain via gravity but that was slow too and then I was losing all the drawn comb. Finally on the 5th time I found a process that works well for small scale harvesting of 1-to-a-few-hives ... I was using an old school mashed potato masher with the comb laying on top of a strainer (still lost the comb so I didn't do this for very long either plus your apiary can outgrow all of this manual method very quickly) .... Some of these will save the messy hands and wasted honey you can never get off of them, although to be fair, there was really no difference with the medical gloves on or not :)

    Speaking on bee stings, prior to being pregnant with my son I had mild reactions to stings. Then, after he was born I had terrible reaction to the point I got epi-pens from my doctor. My son is 3 now and this year any stings I have received are back to being mild. Bodies are so weird! Love what you guys do!

    Minute 47:00 (identifying honey via polin sourceing)
    I believe its been found that some plants provide polin and no nectar, and the reverse is also true. With this in mind would a polin source test actually identify the source of nectar/honey

    Listen, we had a horrible spring flow due to climate changes and not one super got filled. Is it possible for them to finish filling them with a fall nectar flow? Should I leave them on?

    To clarify for people does the queen or laying workers normally lay the drone eggs?

    • @beek
      @beek  หลายเดือนก่อน

      In a healthy colony with a laying queen, the queen lays the drone eggs. She chooses not to fertilize some eggs and those become drones. However, in a colony that no longer has a queen or brood past 21 days, the workers will start laying unfertilized eggs which will become drones.

    Thanking people for super chat is nice. No need to state the amount. Doesn't seem cool at all as some won't donate as they can't compete with others amounts. $1 is the same as $100 if that's all a person can afford.
