    Beebread is one of the most unique elements in a hive, and its great for us!
    Right along honey, it can be harvested fairly easily with a little effort and time.
    Beavread though., unlike honey, does infact have a shelf life, of about 1 year. while honey does not.
    In keeping bees naturally, it is important that we don't heat, treat, or introduce any degrading patterns or methods to our hives or hive products.
    In this video i show you one of my absolute favorite ways to harvest from a hive, following completely natural methods and reaping beyond normal rewards not found on honey on any store shelf!

    In nature, honey bees seek out hollows within trees found along the forest edge.
    In Permaculture design sciences, one method we employ for Regenerative Agriculture in large farm or small backyard scales is called Agroforestry. Often better known as a Food Forest. In this pattern we mimic the Forest Edge, where an abundance of Life exists in nature.
    This is where Honey Bees and Permaculture Collide!
    Wild honey bees have numerous benefits over conventionally sold and shipped bee packages that may come from European or Russian species, etc.
    Some of those benefits include:
    1. Native honey bees are more disease resistant to local diseases.
    2. Local Bees are Acclimated to your local climates hot and cold seasons
    3. Native honey bees forage on wild flowers found around you. consuming
    4. Honey from local bees has been shown to beneficially influence allergies in people who suffer from various pollen related reactions.
    5. and MORE!
    We use Horizontal Hives to mimic nature more fully through a wool insulated horizontal Layens hive model following Dr. Leo Sharashkins build plans and recommendations.
    The insulated hive helps bees regulate temperatures inside the hive year round, just like they would in a thick tree where they find hollows in nature.

      Hey hey.. from my studies the bee bread also has their enzymes and nectar/honey inside bee bread that you find inside each cell.

      Thank You!
      There are a lot of hive options out there, and presses
      But if I may suggest, Dr. Leo Sharashkin in southern missouri is my go to for anything bee related. He has the press I used here, and the hives he builds and offers are insulated horizontal hives, much easier on the bees and much easier on your knees.
      Especially if you are in a cold climate, the insulated hives mimick a natural tree truck and help your bees adjust the interior climate rear round.

    In future - when you want to remove the mesh, just crank the press up so that the mesh cylinder touches the frame. That’ll hold it in place whilst you crank the press out of it.

      Good thinking. The Press is IDEAL, but that is definitely one problem to the approach!

    I’m hoping you can help me. I Purchased keeping these with a smile I’m on board for trying this project out. However, that book was a bit over my head and I really would love some help finding some super beginner, friendly books. I’m hoping to learn more about the fundamentals that will continue to point me in the right direction for natural beekeeping, but not the commercial way. Does that make sense? I guess I need a natural beekeeping for dummies and they don’t make one.

    What happens to the wax. How is the wax not mixing with the pollen ?

    • @HavenPermaculture
      @HavenPermaculture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question!
      The consistency and impermeability f the wax prevents the Pollen from blending, and the Pollen is instead squeezed out through the cracks between the wax. The wax is left as a remnant in the bottom of the press. We use the wax at the end for candles, salves, and more

    The same press could also probably be used to press wine made from honey. (or more accurately make wine from the end product, it looks like a more modern version of the wine press my grandpa made eons ago haha)
    The honey could also probably substitute for sugar in regular winemaking beside bread so this looks super-useful.
    Wine is really healthy in small doses as people living in small villages used to live really long lives drinking it and so is honey as i've heard from an Indian Yogi.

    So if I understand correctly what you're saying is that in the comb there could be larvae, unborn bees, along with wax and honey. Is that correct? I would be interested in trying some of the honey with a head of bee bread on top.

    • @HavenPermaculture
      @HavenPermaculture  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's quite amazing stuff. There are some folks selling false versions of beebread, so really the best way to access it is to keep bees yourself.
      for now we don't offer beebread honey, but we do have some connections and intend to next year! (2024)

    So what happens if you press dead bees in there and it adds to the bee bread? What if someone with an allergy to stings eats that?

    • @HavenPermaculture
      @HavenPermaculture  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely avoid that. In this case Jamon had a lot of really roughly handled and unstrained comb from an extraction where unfortunately many bees made it into the box unavoidably due to the circumstances of the extraction. Rather than waste it out, it was sifted best as possible and used for this video to teach others how to get started at home.
      When you do this at home, your comb will be clean and free of bees. When you remove frames from the hive the bees are left to thrive in your beehive, and by the time you make it into your house you have bee free frames full of honey and beebread.
      You will than read the frames, cutting out the beebread containing comb, and press just that by itself to extract the beebread.
      When we do it, we start with beebread and than add our fresh clean honey comb.
      This video is for educational purposes only. We hope you're excited to give it a try!

      Thank you! This is something we are working on improving. There is a bit of a learning curve with the tech we were using and have sense improved substantially with the music volume levels! Increasing the quality of your speakers/earphones will also improve the sound quite a bit. Thanks for pointing that out!

    “Honey is naturally antibiotic“ (6:21)
    The word you were looking for was - antiseptic.
    Processing your wax for candles and things it’s not really thinking outside the box… wax production is one of the many byproducts from beekeeping so you could really just say it’s “part of the box,” - whereas thinking outside of the box would probably be something like tossing it in the trash, or feeding it to your dog, or Throwing it on your neighbors house, or I don’t know… rubbing it all over your cats fur.

    • @HavenPermaculture
      @HavenPermaculture  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I agree wax production is not exactly outside the box, Honey is one of the oldest known anti-biotics to date!
      It contains reactive oxygen species that kill bacteria through osmosis, its quite fascinating stuff!

    Bees doesnt eat wax. And they use propolis to sanitize the hive. Look, I am an old perm myself, in different continent, but I feel safer to harvest honey and pollen and THEN make bee bread., that is the bee food, instead of eating a resource comb squashed with an hand presser. May be its just me

    • @HavenPermaculture
      @HavenPermaculture  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes absolutely. Bees do not eat wax, they make it. And popolis is used in plenty of ways. bee bread is already made by the bees, its not something we make. Its essentially fermented pollen, inside the cells of the comb. as I explained in the video this was a hive extraction from a wild hive in an abandoned home that did NOT come out clean. The comb was completely obliterated due to the conditions it was coming out of the hive in. We were able to save the colony and transfer into insulated horizontal hives, and Opted to make a video for educational purposes with the remnants! From a clean frame, pollen should always be extracted from cut out sections of the comb, rather than this mush I was dealing with from this bucket. in any case, this was great fun!
