    Thanks for this video! I'm glad I ran into it, I was so close to buying the ninja and then realized I can save money with the Shinobi. I really just need the monitor and this explanation is what I was looking for. Thanks again!

    I have both of these as well and i actually use my Shinobi more than the Ninja V.... mainly because of the weight and battery life and i don't need the external recording since i no longer use the R, so with the C70 don't have a crazy benefit for me.
    Great video as always!

    The Ninja will be essential for backup recording for something you can't really film again like a wedding.

      @@SakkiDuran Well, I mean "with" dual SD cards. There are events that just can't repeat themselves like weddings and it only takes one wedding to fuck up and you're nearly out of business.

    I was about to pull the trigger on the Ninja until watching this. I make ASMR camping video's and just run a Rode Pro + on the camera, that'll pick up the fan yea? Battery life and weight is a serious consideration... Thinking I'll start looking at Shinobi or anything you can recommend one year later. Awesome vid mate!

    I decided on the Ninja V due to the HDMI out for wireless video transmitter. I found myself doing a recent live stream and with two camera's, one closer to any computer and the other at a distance (less than 300 ft) and it would make it so much easier if I were able to view the monitor at a distance.

    Thanks for the video! Deciding between the two still as I'm shooting with A7SIII. Right now, I'm using a budget monitor, AndycineA6 plus, which is like under $200. Just not bright enough, has lut support, wave forms, 4k display. External recording isn't something I need right now but may want to do later. I feel like I'm leaning towards the Ninja V based on the comments but will be doing some more research

    I have Ninja V and it's "must have" for me since my NIkon Z6 doesn't record 10bit/422 internally. I have just one issue with Ninja's active cooling, though - while you're rigging it with an on-camera mic, the noise from the fan is quite obvious in the recordings while the mic and the Ninja are close to each other. Even if I use some kind of articulated arm to place the mic more far from the body it still catches some noise.

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Slav.
      I know what you mean about the fan being loud. Might be worth playing with the audio levels a little bit as I don’t have any issues with the noise interfering.
      I have some videos on audio if you need. (Not saying you do) 🤩🙏🏻
      Thanks for watching 🎥

    • @redcat.
      @redcat. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@SamHolland I don't need, thanks ^_-
      I'm a post production sound guy for about 12 years so maybe I'm a bit more sensitive to audio noise than most of filmmakers. And it also really depends on type of mic (cardioid gets more of this fan noise than super-cardioid of example) and levels of noise and signal and how they compare to each other. If the source is quite loud I can set gain (or volume on post) to appropriate level and won't have any problem with it whatsoever, but if it's not loud I have to make some boost on post (or gain) for example which cause some increasing of noise floor and fan noise too of course.. Yes, you can use some denoiser stuff but it's sometimes kinda destructive to voice and it's always a compromise too.
      Needless to say if I use lav mics or set my mic overhead far from Atomos I don't have any issues :)

    • @joshmcdzz6925
      @joshmcdzz6925 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redcat. I have the same set up.. I will advice you record audio externally and sync in post, that way you get the best audio and it's even a cheaper setup ( get the tascam or zoom small recorder ).. Most big prod setup use external audio recording anyways..

    I like your video...but you forgot 2 bigs things with the Ninja V. First, when you record on the Ninja V, there is no more time limit of 30 minutes. Second, no more overheating on some cameras like the Canon R5 and R6. I have a Canon R6, so for me, i decided to go with the Ninja V. I already have the Ninja Flame, but it doesn't record in 4K 60fps... only 30fps. So that's why i'm switching to the Ninja V. It's not the first video i watched from you, and it's always goods videos. So i'm subscribing to your chanel. Thank you. 😉😊

    Hi Sam, thank you for the great review, I've just ordered the Ninja V so I can get more recording time out of my GoPro 10 as it gets very hot and shuts down with the media mod fitted. I have also ordered the Hahnel HL-XL982 battery as it also has a USB output so I can keep the GoPro charged up also. I should be able to take both timelapse in the GoPro and 10-bit on the monitor to make a time-lapse video easily and just choose the normal speed interesting footage from the monitor. I also have an HDMI microscope that I'm using with a telescope too, so an external high-quality recorder would be good there too. Thank you again, I've subscribed as like your content 👍

      @@SamHolland Hi Sam, a little update, this is an amazing screen, where I now have a Sony ZV-E10, Crane M2 S and a long pole to get some great drone style shots, plus the GoPro 10 creates some good time lapse video on it too. I am using a standard 500GB SSD within the caddy supplied with the monitor, have a cage and hood for it too (SmallRig) and use the Lindy CROMO right angle adaptors to ensure the HDMI connectors remain out the way (highly recommended, plus they look smart). The GoPro 10 is obviously not as good as the Sony ZV-E10 as everything is squeezed in there with a small lens, but the 200fps looks really good, so both cameras have their plusses.

      Ooooo mate! That might throw another spanner in the works… if you want the slow motion and extra Ks, might be worth looking at the Ninja V + (PLUS)! 🤩🤩🤩 maybe I shouldn’t have said that! 😂
      I use the Ninja V with the R6 when I want to record prores. Just smoothens my workflow a little rather than creating proxies. But again, massive file sizes. So now I use the Shinobi with the R6 for client work and the Ninja V with the R for 10bit.

    Are the Shinobi colors acurate with your camera?
    I noticed on my Ninja V they are very warm vs. my camera. So I returned it instead of spending more to calibrate it.

  • @Manueljusto

    Great comparison, thanks a lot for this. I'm now deciding the Shinobi would make much more sense for me since a lot of times I don't have access to a plug during a shoot, so I use all the battery I can get. And since I'm doing a lot of moving around and gimbal lifting I could really use the lighter weight. Also I have an a7iv which records 10bit 4K internally so I don't really see the need for the Ninja V at all.
    Just a question: I read the Shinobi uses NP-F battery types. With my Sony I use NP-FZ100 batteries. Would those be compatible with the monitor, by any chance?
    It was super helpful to watch your video, thanks again!

    Hey thanks for the information. Question. Does it matter what year ninja v someone has? I seen one for sale and it had a 1920x1200 resolution… but others have 1920x1080. And new to this and I want to purchase one but not sure about certain specs. Will a firmware update change the resolution from old to new? Or should I just buy a newer model?

  • @kishoreabraham

    Bro, the comparison is appIes to oranges. I don't know why someone buys ninja 5 just for monitoring. There are much cheaper alternatives for monitoring. Ninja= recording.
