      Hi Gerald, I just have a question... what's all that for? Not having the ssd sticking out of the ninja or there's something else?
      If you talk about cost saving, i would say that's not true, because it's plenty of fast sata ssd at very low price.
      Thank you for the video and nice gloves btw

    • @GeraldBertramPhotography
      @GeraldBertramPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emanuelechiabert Thanks for the comment! In regards to the saving of money, I am actually comparing it to really the only other kind of drive with a better build quality and shorter length than the plastic sleds which is the Angelbird drives. But for sure, if you are happy with the plastic sleds and it sticking out the side of the Ninja, there are indeed plenty of good SSDs you can slide in there for pretty cheap. I dig the gloves as well!!

      @@GeraldBertramPhotography Hi Gerald, I just saw this video:
      th-cam.com/video/awyrwB--hVU/w-d-xo.html
      it's quite similar to what we are looking for: a shorter caddy, but this time with a sata drive instead of a m-sata(with adapter from andycine) which save even more money. Bye!

    Per your request, (not sure if anyone else has volunteered the same drive information yet) I actually used the LEVEN JMS mSATA SSD 2TB drive. Using your demonstration as a guide, I found the biggest difference was the chipset on mine is actually on the other side, so the thermal pad went between the board and the SSD. There was room and no issues. Formated in the Ninja V just fine.

    This looks really nice, although if the drive in the Samsung T5 is truly a standard M.2 2230 drive, the only physical incompatibility is the screws to keep the drive laying flat. In the T5, the drive has 2 small screws in the corners. It looked like the motherboard for the Andycine Lunchbox does not have a screw hole for a standard 2230 (center screw). That's a bit of a shame, a nylon locking pin would make for a toolless drive installation. The process to transfer the drive isn't too complicated, but it would be nice to just pick up the M.2 drive directly. That said, there aren't any speed concerns with M.2 drives since they are far faster than the SATA 3 interface that the Lunchbox provides.

    • @dominikmeier382

    But I would not like the risk of doing this myself.
    If Andycine offer their Lunch Box (Great Name! :) ) for 50% off meaning 200$ meaning 38 more dollars and they do it themselves and provide warranty I think much more people will go for it.

    The problem with the lunchbox is it's so limited and wasnt thought through very well. I mean a slight change to the inside and rhey coukd allow tons more iptikns but instead they limit them selves by making the fittings sp tight. Another issue is the rivits that are not flush to the casing making it incompatible with tje Connect and some cages. Then you have the problem of it being too short and heavy so that it doesnt have any support and after long use it actually starts tp javl up the connections.
    I bought like 5 of them to my my 860 EVOs in that i had laying around but since i use the Atomos Connect i cant use them unless i modify them. They need to make some small changes and they would be great but as they stand now their kind of jist olay and a simple 3d printer job can and has been better for me

    The angelbird drivers are harder to remove and I've even picked up some super cheap second hand and are def my go to. I don't mind the caddies, but the lunch boxes will need to be longer. Here lies the issue, when you have any of the addons like the AtomX or Connect, you wont be able to get teh drive out of the unit. I do see they have several options as well as an extension handle, but I'm not sure it's still long enough to get out. Nice to have options though!

      I think they would have a problem with the form factor. It works with the msata drives because they are more of a square shape vs the longer rectangle shape of a regular nvme drive like a Samsung Evo. However I know the newer T7 drives while not compatible with the current Lunchbox, it is the right shape so hopefully they will make a Lunchbox that might work with that.

    SanDisk Ultra 3D NAND 500GB Internal SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, 2.5 Inch /7 mm, Up to 560 MB/s - SDSSDH3-500G-G25
    I have a couple of these that I installed in Atomos SSD caddies for my Shogun Inferno and they also work with the Ninja V. So, I'm wondering if the SSD can be pulled from the case and installed into the Lunchbox.

      Very true! But as I mentioned in the video I didn't want a drive hanging out the side. To be honest it more an aesthetic choice because functionally there is no issue. I just love having my drive tucked away on the back of the Ninja. Plus this Lunchbox is just so incredibly solid. I've literally stepped on it twice and not so much as a scratch.

      Hey Matt! No, my Lunchbox fits in pretty well. However I do know that the drive connector on the Ninja V has a fair amount of play in it, device to device. The one in mine is fairly stiff. A friend I shoot with has one as well however his has quite a bit more play it in. My assumption is that there is some tolerance variance in the drive connectors in the Ninja V monitors. I have also heard from several other shooters about this. Just my 2 cents!

    Gerald, I currently own two Atomos Ninja Inferno monitors. I'm current using the Sony Atom X 500GB Mini-drive for both of the monitors. I would love to extend my record time in the field. My question: Can I use the Lunchbox + the Samsung T5 with the Ninja Infernos. I purchased them when they first released because I knew they would be a game changer for many filmmakers including myself and they have paid for themselves many times over!! They are 7 inch monitors, big, bulky but they help me in so many ways and because much of my work isn't run and gun, they work as good as any record monitor out there! I'll take em to their grave. It also saves me tons of HD space because I can shoot in Pro Res HQ, 422, LT, etc... AND, I don't have to transcode files, doubling the demand on my drive space. So ... Can I use the Lunchbox + the Samsung T5 with the Ninja Infernos? Thanks for any help you can give me ... love the channel

    • @GeraldBertramPhotography
      @GeraldBertramPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding the Inferno uses the same 2.5" drive sled as the Ninja V. Now I don't have an Inferno so you would really need to double check that. If it is the same drive sled as the Ninja V, then yes the Lunchbox & T5 combo should work with no problem.

  • @matt_pang

  • @gabrielshepard
    @gabrielshepard ปีที่แล้ว

    It does look really nice on the Ninja.... but, hear me out...
    As ugly as the stock sled looks... it protects the HDMI ports on the just in case the camera takes a tumble or something hits the mount (sports, stunts in production, accidental dropping etc) . From the very first time I have seen these field monitors I realized that... and every time I have heard someone say they "didn't like how it hangs over", I've always every time said its to protect the cable ends and the ports....
    Maybe I'm overthinking this, or maybe Atomos made a functional design choice!

      @@gigohsq Are you talking about the Nikon D780? If so I believe that camera can just output 10bit 422 log footage, not RAW. The data rate for that is going to be lower than 12bit ProRes RAW HQ so the T5 shouldn't have any issues keeping up. Keep in mind doing this conversion here, we are getting rid of the USB C interface controller and using a SATA controller now so you should get speeds that meet or even exceed the throughput of something like the Western Digital Blue.
