  • Today in this video we are looking at the Shinobi 7 and comparing it to the more budget friendly Shinobi 5. I've had the chance to use both of them extensively and I definitely have some thoughts.

    Because I am a total noob with monitors I miss some details about OS and how it works at work - even as additional shorts. Everything else was superb! Video, color, sound, music (someone in comment noticed that). You are not trying to be a showman, more of a buddy. Keep it up! Thumb up and subscribe.

    I guess the 5 is designed for lightweight handheld setups. The 7 could be used on larger cameras or tripod setups.
    Still - lack of HDMI is a pain on the 5. I was thinking 5 for on-camera with option of plugging into a much larger monitor for tripod use.

    Thank you for the review im actually in the process of looking at the 5 at the moment. Never used a monitor before so might be a stupid question but I noticed the specs says 4k 30 fps but how does that work for viewing when I shoot 4k 60 fps/120fps will that mess with the viewing and will that effect how it’s recorded to my camera sd card?

    • @AryanSehgal
      @AryanSehgal  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No it shouldn't mess anything up. Essentially your camera has the ability to send out a completely different resolution and frame rate to what it's recording internally. For example, you can record 4K 120fps internally but send out a 1080p 30fps signal over HDMI. Then your external monitor does any necessary conversion to display that image on its screen. For example, you're outputting a 4k 60fps signal over HDMI, but your monitor can only display 4k 3pfps, then your monitor is doing that conversion in real time and showing that to you on the screen. Matching all these internal and external settings are only important if you're planning to record externally (using a Ninja, Shogun, etc) But if you're just planning to use something like a Shinobi to monitor them these frame rate/resolution aren't super important. Hope that helps.

    Hey dude, what sort of storage options do we have for the Shinobi 7? I bought mine the second it came out and it has been stored in it's original box ever since which feels a bit cramped, i'd feel a lot better if it was nicely packed in a padded case along with all the accessories!

    • @AryanSehgal
      @AryanSehgal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey man, I usually just keep it in my Nanuk Case, don't have a separate padded case for it. Never really had any issues with micro scratches on the screen.

    Bought one of these. The display wouldn’t stay in the unit. Fell out. Hanging by its wires. Ordered a warranty replacement and waited four weeks, then they canceled my order. No longer available.

      That sounds like it might be a manufacturing defect. It might be worth contacting Atomos about it.

      @@AryanSehgal Thank you very much Aryan. You really got me interested in the monitor itself, let alone the 7 inch model. I am a hobbyist that takes mostly stills, so I likely don’t need advanced features. But the idea of having a large viewer to check composition, focus and to see the result of any effect I may apply is intriguing. When you add up the cost with accessories, it still gets up there, so I hope it’s something I will find useful on my R7. Can I ask you just one last question please, then I’ll leave you alone; do you use the 7 inch on your camera rig handheld, or is it too large for that and should be on its own tripod for more static shooting?

    • @AryanSehgal
      @AryanSehgal  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For an all day shoot, a 7 inch monitor can be a bit heavy when using it handheld. I'll usually use a monopod with it to make it easier, or a tripod of course. If you're going for a short shooting session then it should be fine in my opinion. You can make the setup lighter by only using 1 battery instead of two. Honestly the batteries add a lot of bulk to the whole setup so smaller batteries go a long way.

      @Granthuffman I personally think for Sony's hybrid cameras the benefits aren't that great for an external recorder but I've heard that Panasonic offers a lot of great perks for external recording. I personally am not up to date with all the latest from Panasonic, but I've heard nothing but good things so it's definitely worth looking into.
